GAINING AN EDGE: A MASSIVE FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER

PART LIX

trio2.jpg.8c2c6ae008940c9eb429c7d41f8fc76b.jpg

Aboard the Freedom Survivor cruise-liner, Shermie and Helena Douglas clanked thier wine glasses together as they went over a roster of potential allies and enemies from the King of Fighters roster. They were suddenly interrupted by Chun-Li as she burst into Helena’s office.

Chun-Li immediately took notice of Shermie. “Pardon me, Miss Douglas. I did not know someone else was here with you.”

“Ah yes, Chun Li. May I introduce you to Shermie, a fighter and fashion designer from France, she will be helping us with her insights into the King of Fighters tournament,” said Helena.

Chun Li smiled politely as she shook Shermie’s hand. She then turned back to Helena. “I was hoping I could speak to you privately. An urgent matter has come up.”

“I will excuse myself,” said Shermie. “It will give me a chance to meet with the rest of the team,”

“Of course, I will have an escort take you to the cafeteria where most of the fighters that we have gathered are currently located,” stated Helena.

Helena made a quick call on the phone and Shermie nodded in Chun Li’s direction. “I will leave you two to your discussions. A pleasure to meet you.”

Shermie left Helena’s office and paused outside the door close enough to hear the conversation.

“Guile and Cammy White should be here soon,” Chun-Li announced. “They have a fighter from the King of the Iron Fist tournament, named Armor King, with them. They also have a fighter from The King of Fighters tournament in their group. A woman named Blue Mary.”  (REF: BRAD BURNS VS. BRUCE IRVIN)

“Oh, I wonder if Shermie knows her?” Helena wondered.

A mix of panic and anger bubbled up in Shermie at the sound of Blue Mary’s name. A member of DOATEC security came upon Shermie as she eavesdropped.

“Miss Shermie, I presume. I am here to escort you to the cafeteria,” he said.

Shermie smiled and moved her bangs from her eyes. “That is very kind of you, thank you.” She followed him away from Helena’s office.

Back in the office, Chun Li continued with her update. “Cammy discovered that her ‘sisters’, the dolls, were being targeted by Kazuya Mishima’s G-Corporation.”  (REF: BLUE MARY VS. ANNA WILLIAMS)

“No doubt looking for an edge in his race against Bison and Shadoloo,” Helena surmised.

“Currently the warrior, T. Hawk, is looking after the dolls in Mexico. He is a good man, we can trust him,” stated Chun Li. (REF: ZANGIEF VS. CHANG KOEHAN)

Helena beamed. “That is wonderful news.”

Chun Li looked to the ground with sadness in her face.

“What is wrong?”

“That is the only news that I have recently received,” Chun Li said softly.

Helena regarded her ally with concern.

“I got a call from Yang. I finally know why he and his brother never came.”  (REF: LEI FEI VS. YUN) A tear rolled down Chun Li’s cheek. “Yun was murdered. Yang found him.”

“How horrible. Does he know who killed his brother?” Helena asked.

“No, and I am worried about what Yang might do. He asked me how to get a hold of Gen,” said Chun Li.

“Gen?”

“He’s an assassin that was close to my father.”  (REF: GEN VS. WANG JINREI)

“What are you going to do?” Helena inquired.

“I am leaving to go help him,” replied Chun Li. “Those brothers were like family to me and Yang needs me now. I hate to leave you in the middle of all this, but I leave you in the capable hands of Cammy and Guile. They should be able to get you all that you need.”

Helena reached out and grabbed Chun Li’s hands with her own. “I understand. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for those I consider family. Do what you must. I just ask that you be careful. His unfortunate death could very well be linked into everything that is going on.

Shermie walked briskly through the Freedom Survivor’s cafeteria. The impending arrival of Blue Mary meant she would have to speed up her plans. Surely, Blue Mary would recognize her and blow her cover. (REF: BONNE JENET VS. CERVANTES DE LEON) First on the agenda was to thin the ranks. Shermie walked up to the grouping of mixed martial artist Mila and father/daughter wrestling duo Bass and Tina Armstrong.

“Greetings I am an assistant to Miss Douglas and I have a mission for anyone who is interested,” said Shermie.

Bass stood up from his seat. “I am definitely interested. We were told there would be action when she convinced us to come here and all we have done so far is sit on this boat.” (REF: FENG WEI VS. GEN FU

“Excellent. This particular mission is for recruitment and possibly protection. The target is Sarah Bryant. She is a famous tournament fighter. She could be a valuable ally, but she might also be in danger from one of the various criminal organizations we are trying to stop. Her history with brain washing makes her vulnerable,” Shermie explained. (REF: SARAH BRYANT VS. MATURE)

“Sarah Bryant? I know her,” said Mila.

The revelation caught Shermie off guard. “Is that so?”

“She participated in the fifth Dead or Alive tournament. It was my first one,” stated Mila. “If she might be in trouble I want to go.”

Bass placed his hand on Tina’s shoulder. “What about you sweetie? You in?”

“No. Go ahead with Mila, I am going to sit this one out and train a little more,” Tina replied.

Bass shook his head with dissapointment. “Don’t tell me you are doubting yourself because of the loss to that punk, Wolf Hawkfield.”  (REF: TINA ARMSTRONG VS. WOLF HAWKFIELD)

“That’s not it. I just need a little time and I will be back in the game, big daddy,” Tina promised.

“Suit yourself.” Bass extended an arm to Mila. “Shall we little lady?”

“There is a chopper already waiting for you. The pilot has Sarah’s last known location. Good luck,” said Shermie.

Bass Armstrong and Mila exited the cafeteria. Shermie felt confident that Vice and Mature could handle the two when they arrived to look for Sarah.  With two more pieces potentially off the board,  Shermie turned her attention to Tina who had not left her seat.

“Don’t beat yourself up over your decision, take all the time you need to get your head right,” Shermie stated.

Tina did not respond. Shermie walked away to another group of fighters in the cafeteria. Her next objective was to sow discord in the group. She felt around in her purse for the black pouch of Soul Edge shards given to her by Urien. Shermie approached the group of Detective Lei Wulong, Brad Wong, Elliot, and Wolf Hawkfield. She was pleasantly surprised to find an argument already in progress.

“With all due respect, detective, there is no way you are better at zui quan than me!” Brad Wong declared.

“Is this really important right now?” Eliot asked.

“Perhaps not to you, but to me it matters a great deal,” Brad answered.

“You are taking this the wrong way,” Lei insisted. “I believe our styles would compliment each other quite well.”

Brad pointed an accusatory finger. “You said you could cover for the gaps in my technique.”

“I am sure that was just the wine talking,” Eliot guessed.

“If anyone is being affected by too much wine it is your friend here,” stated Lei.

“The only thing that is affecting me right now is a desire to punch you in the face,” said Brad.

Eliot implored Wolf Hawkfield with his eyes. “Shouldn’t we stop them?”

“We have all been cooped up here for awhile,” Wolf remarked.  (REF: SERGEI DRAGUNOV VS. GUILE)  “Some fighting was inevitable. If for nothing else than to break up the boredom.”

Shermie grinned at the prospect of her luck turning around. She would not need the Soul Edge fragments at this moment, a mix of alcohol and cabin fever would be their undoing.

Based on what I've seen of Lei Wulong in Tekken 7, I don't think he wins this short fight.

Brad looks more fluid in his combos and can be a little unpredictable on what he will do. I'm sure Lei can match him, but Brad holds his own until they get tired of each other. A win for Brad.
