  1. Hey guys! I have been trying to choose someone to spotlight as the Member of the Month based on their contributions to the website. Previous Member of the months include @broadwaybeyonder, @JohnnyChany, and most recently @Peypeypeypey. I picked them in June, July and September respectively, but in August when I could not get my schedule to work with me, I left it up to you guys to choose a future member of the month and you chose me! I do thank you all for that, but I wanted to do something a bit different this month as well, I'll get to that in a bit so stay a bit and read on . First I'm going to explain why I chose to step in and keep the website alive when I did, and what it means to me. In 2020, I revisited MagneticFox after some years of not participating just based on pure nostalgia. I had been talking to my wife about how I used to write and looked up some of my old setups (Ah how I thought I could write, turns out I was actually pretty bad at it and had fun laughing at myself.) But then, I saw a post referencing the ElectricFerret revival and so I jumped back onto the forum and again let my nostalgia whisk me away. I have fond memories of debating on these forums with other members such as @Nesh @C.T. @ND7 @DamagingRob @Skirmisher and many others. I know I was always a bit of a Dragon Ball nerd (and still am) but that didn't matter here, I was in a place where nerds belonged. In 2021 Fox had announced his wish to retire from the website and either hand it off or close it down. Now truth be told I was not the only one who stepped up and hoped to keep the site online, @Z451 being one of the others that come to mind. And honestly, I didn't care who the site went to, I just couldn't let it go away again. You see to me, this site wasn't just a place for nerds to me, it wasn't just nostalgia to me, it was an escape from reality. In 2007 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma Disease, I was told at that time I had really only months left to live. Spoiler alert, but, Judging by the way I type here now, that doctor was very much wrong on his assessment that he was "999%" sure of and it just turned out to be Cat Scratch disease which went away in a couple of months. However, in those few months, I shut myself away from the world, constantly trying to escape what I thought was the end and I buried my mind into anime and comics, constantly ignoring everything to get that last bit of enjoyment I could squeeze before I would inevitably get sick from treatments. That is when I stumbled upon ElectricFerret while searching for "Goku vs. Superman" (Yes, really) and fell fast onto this site. This site was The first thing I would go to when I got home from school and the last thing I would check when going to bed. @Fox probably didn't even know this, but he had given me a very real thing to give this kid who thought he was dying something to look forward to each night. In 2013 when it shut down, I was not as active as I had been before having a lot of things going on in my life at that time to really notice, so when I check in on the site and realized it was gone, It sucked, but I moved on. Fast forward to 2021, and this time I had a chance to save this site. I have worked in childcare most of my career and just the idea that something as dumb as a nerdy website giving a kid out there that breath of life they needed really needed stuck in my mind. I couldn't let this site disappear again. Fox warned me how hard this was going to be for someone not fully experienced especially in the languages needed to run the site. Boy have I been humbled the past year thinking I could just figure it out as I went along. I have made many errors so far, even knocking the website completely offline for an entire weekend in February. Fox stepped in each time and helped me (I'm sure it's super annoying when I mess up, especially since he just wants to be done with the site already heh.) He never expected anything in return and for that, I can't thank him enough. So, I decided that I would take this post as a chance to tell why I have kept MagneticFerret going, and why I will continue to do so for as long as I can. I wanted to thank everyone who helped me do so, and everyone who didn't ditch the site when it had a change of ownership. But I also wanted to share a fun update on something else happening. Going forward the Member of The Month will not be chosen by me, it will be chosen by you guys! If you would like to nominate someone, simply message me and tell me why, I will pick ONE nomination and pursue that! One last thing, I have made it clear that I really wish to have a certain part of the website up and running again, but it takes a lot of time to fully understand these things and after a year of trying and failing to truly understand how much time it takes to put into this, I have decided to pursue getting a certificate in coding which will help my understanding on how this all operates and not just on a "keep it alive" basis. I have plans to update and expand the site even more but those such updates will take time so please bear with me a bit longer. However, something fun recently happened and older user @Paru reached out to me about getting his username back online, he hadn't logged in in 12 YEARS, so to make sure I was doing it right I reached out to Fox for some advice. He not only answered my question but has offered a bit more help. Help that will allow me to say this... The CBUB Fantasy Draft Returns in October 2023!!! (More news on that VERY soon!) Thank you all!

  2. The take the Bear out together and then turn on each other. I'm leaning towards Lesnar as perhaps the more purely physically able all-round fighter of the two, but it is definitely a close thing. And just for fun:

  4. Before we start Round 2, we are going to do a 2nd chance round! The following were eliminated in round 1, and will have a chance to re enter the tournament. @DSkillz @broadwaybeyonder @Culwych1 @Gizmo Hibiki @Pizzaguy2995 You all have ONE week to post a new tournament match. The contender with the Highest overall score will be re entered into the tournament. It must be posted before May 5th, 2024 at 11:59PM ET How will this work with the grand prize? Should anyone in this 2nd chance go on to win the tournament, they will receive a $50 Digital Visa gift card and the Runner up will get a $50 Digital Visa gift card. Should someone who was not eliminated in round one go on to win, they will receive the full $100 Digital Visa gift card. If I am in a position to have receive a reward it will instead be passed on to whomever was the next runner up. @Gizmo Hibiki's current match that was entered too late for round 1 will be his submission for the 2nd chance round.

  10. Dramatic music plays as the screen fades from black to an image of the globe spinning. Voiceover begins. In a world where leadership matters, two contenders step onto the global stage. Wendy, the symbol of fast food excellence, and the Geico Gecko, a mere reptile with big dreams. [Cut to a shot of Wendy, standing tall and confident, with an American flag waving behind her.] Wendy stands for hard work, innovation, and the pursuit of deliciousness for all. [Cut to a contrasting shot of the Geico Gecko, looking mischievous against a murky background.] But the Gecko? He's just a smooth-talking reptile, peddling insurance policies with a smirk. [Cut to a series of images showing Wendy engaging with people of diverse backgrounds, smiling and serving food.] Wendy has spent her career bringing people together, serving up smiles and satisfaction in every bite. She's a unifier, a beacon of hope in a world of uncertainty. [Cut to footage of the Geico Gecko, surrounded by stacks of paperwork, looking overwhelmed.] Meanwhile, the Gecko is drowning in bureaucracy, lost in a maze of paperwork. Can we trust someone who can't even navigate their own office to lead the world? [Cut to a split-screen comparison: Wendy on one side, vibrant and engaging, and the Gecko on the other, looking small and insignificant.] Wendy embodies strength, integrity, and the power of the people. The Gecko? He's just a corporate mascot, out of his depth in the deep waters of global politics. [Cut to a final shot of Wendy, smiling confidently into the camera, with the slogan displayed prominently: "Wendy for World Leader: Serving Up Success for All."] The choice is clear. When it comes to leadership, don't settle for a gecko. Choose Wendy, the true champion of the people. [End with the image of Wendy's smiling face and the sound of a bell ringing, signaling victory.]

  15. Well, I'm thinking most people at least vote for their own picks, some may give out "pity votes" for characters that may be outmatched in a round, some may just vote for characters they like, and others still may be genuinely convinced by the arguments for and against each character. But sabotage? I don't know. I really hope some of us here aren't doing that. It would be nice to give people the benefit of the doubt and we could just have fun with the Draft. I know I've been having fun so far, and not just 'cuz I'm ahead, lol. I spent a full ten minutes or so laughing when I first saw the match-up I got with the Polar Express, to the point where I didn't even much care if my pick won or lost that round. The Halloween vs. X-Mas terrains and match-ups in general have been a particularly interesting concept, at least for me. But if some people are taking this seriously enough to try the sabotage thing? I hope they consider that they'll make this contest less fun, including for themselves. It would be good to be fair and stay in the spirit of competition. Yeah, I remember you mentioned that you were dealing with covid. I'm also sorry about what you've had to go through. The season's been pretty fun as is with the matchups and current terrains, and it's done a decent job of balancing things out among most of the teams and characters.

  25. Pumpkinhead has a very clear advantage over Mrs. Claus when it comes to physical power and determination. But I do think that Mrs. Claus knows her workshop well and definitely has the mental skills to beat Pumpkinhead if given the chance. The problem is, he's a horror icon. He won't go down easily. If I recall correctly, you need to sever the link with the guy who summoned him in the first place, and if she can figure that out, it should be easy. But I doubt it cause it's not something you think of when you're on the North Pole and you're surrounded by your husband and his workers. Sidenote, I wonder what elf finally cracked and summoned Pumpkinhead to go not after Santa, but his wife instead.

  32. For those of you who don't know, each month I will be choosing a member to highlight as our member of the month! I try to post these on the 10th of each month, but sometimes I just can't get to the computer those days. In any case this month I chose this @Peypeypeypey not just for what he does on the site, but what he has done for this site. It may be more than you realize, as with him, MagneticFerret as you know it may not be around today. Most of us on this site have been on it for a long time and know that this site used to go by Electricferret.com when it was owned by @Fox. He has since retired from being the webmaster and handed the key to the kingdom over to me. However, some of you may not know that before that, during the time EF was offline between 2013 and 2020, Peypeypeypey had stepped up and created MagneticFox, a freeforums website version of the CBUB we all love. This is actually the inspiration of this websites current domain! MagneticFox + ElectricFerret = MagneticFerret. I myself rarely was able to ever make any stories for the website, but without him helping to keep our community together, Fox likely wouldn't have brought Electicferret back online to begin with. All in all, Thank you @Peypeypeypey. Now each month I do send some questions over to our Member of the month so we can learn more about them! Let's take a look. Tell us about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do for a living? I'm from Indiana, a smallish town called Muncie. I work as a Front End Manager at a grocery store, but I've recently accepted a new job at a bank, which is fun. I recently got engaged and my fiance and I own a small house together with our dog and two cats. We also foster kittens from time to time. In my free time I play Magic: the Gathering and some video games, read books (usually fantasy or surrealist novels), or writing, although I don't do that as much anymore. What brought you to this site, why do you stay? My brother, known here as @Magnamax, showed me the site. I don't know how he found it. I remember when Fox was making the official matches people like wrote in for. Good times. I think I mostly stayed because it was one of the few places that was small enough for you to get to know people but big enough that it wasn't just you talking to the same two or three people over and over. I also really like the writing portion of it, though I hardly ever do it anymore. Unlike other Battleboards, the CBUB allowed the users to provide much needed context for fights, which made them feel both more organic and more fun. If you had to choose, what member her would you say is your biggest rival? Who's do you look forward to reading the most? I don't know that I have a "rival" per se. MagnaMax I guess. It's always good winning over him. I also don't know that I like reading a specific person, I just really like the more out there match ups that I would never think to put against each other. The Hundred Acre Woods gang vs. Sesame Street Monsters? Hell yeah What is your favorite setup you made? I'm going to give two answers here: My first answer is Jack vs. King Bradley. It was simple and felt like a true encounter these two might have. I like both characters and I like that both are just simple sword fighters. My other favorite was Calvin vs. Hobbes. I really liked how that one turned out. It had much more heart and emotion than my usual set ups, and it wasn't really a "fight" at all, but I really enjoyed it. What future matches do we have to look forward to from you? That's a good question lol. If I ever manage to break my lazy streak, there are a couple of matches I would like to make. I think Berserk is ripe with unexplored potential, and some other non-Marvel/Non-DC comic characters really need love. Saga and Fables in particular come to mind. Fables has a plethora of interesting matchup ideas in particular I think. With the writer's challenge just heating up, what would be a theme you would like to see be a challenge? I think a challenge about legends of old clashing with modern heroes would be interesting. King Arthur vs. Batman, Merlin vs. Constantine, Robin Hood vs. Hawkeye, stuff like that. Fables, fairy tales, and legendary heroes and villains of old going up against modern marvels. What led to the creation of MagneticFox? How did you land on the name and logo for MagneticFox? Basically, it was the first time Fox was shutting the forums. I was in high school at the time and had a lot of free time, so I spent a lot of time on the forums and I didn't want it to go away. I just hastily decided to throw it together in an attempt to keep some semblance of the site together. We held a thread to discuss changing the name, as I had just carried over the old EF name, and I believe it was SirMethos who suggested that name. It was by far the best one so I ran with it. After that, I made @DSkillz a mod, and he was the one who was really actively keeping things running there. He's a real trooper that one. When you heard this site (or rather EF at the time) was opening back up, what was your first reaction? I was really excited. I remember talking to MagnaMax about it and getting pretty pumped. Those Tournaments were really fun and it was a good distraction from real life at the time lol. I was working in a grocery store when the pandemic started and it was pretty awful for that first year, so having that to look forward to on my breaks and when I got off work was always nice. Given the amount of time put into the website, if given the choice would you do it all over again? Yeah, I mostly would. When I was younger it was a great exercise in creative writing and basics of debating, so I wouldn't even consider it totally just wasting time or anything. Plus I have had fun here over the years. I maybe would have changed some of my really early actions, but everyone does kind of cringey stuff when they're kids lol I know I asked permission to use the Magnetic portion of the name when creating the new domain, how did you feel about that? Do you still feel that way? I thought it was a good idea. I don't really consider it "my name." It was made by the community for the community, so I have no problem with anyone else here using it like that. I hope you guys enjoyed this! I had intended to make @Peypeypeypey the Member of the month last month, but life got in the way so I never had time to prepare. Shout out to @DSkillz for not letting that slip .

  36. *THE FOLLOWING BROADCAST IS BEING PRESENTED BY THE TRANSDIMENSIONAL COMBAT COMMISSION. ALL COMBATANTS MUST AGREE TO FOLLOW TCC GUIDELINES AT ALL TIMES. SAFETY OF ATENDEES IS NOT GUARANTEED.* *THIS IS BATTLE WAS PRE-RECORDED IN THE BUNKER DURING THE REIGN OF THE 9.* Al Rossi: HelloOoOoOoOo, fight fans! It’s Al and Andel, back in the Bunker to bring you some 9-less action! Andel Sanap: And certainly a curious one, Al. I’m sure the fans are wondering what kind of conflict they will be witnessing given the combatants featured. Al Rossi: No kidding! It’s an athletic battle between the friendly faces of our childhoods: The characters of Sesame Street and the Hundred Acre Woods! Now, some of you bloodthirsty viewers might be a little disappointed that we aren’t going to be getting an all-out brawl today. But considering the temperaments of all of our ‘combatants’, we’ve set up a contest that should prove be very interesting. Welcome to Bunker Baseball! Andel Sanap: I have heard you describing this game for some time. I didn’t expect my first exposure to it would be provided by teams of stuffed animals and friendly monsters. Al Rossi: But they are all at least familiar with the rules of the game. Officially this will be the Hundred Acre Woods Hunny Pots vs the Sesame Street All Stars, in front a crowd of excited fans in our baseball field set up on our asteroid home away from TCC Arena. Already we can see our teams milling about the field and stretching out. How would you like to run through the batting order for the Sesame Street crew, Andel? Andel Sanap: Well, if you insist. The ‘leadoff hitter’ will be Cookie Monster, who will also be playing 2nd base. Next will be Telly Monster at right field and Zoe at shortstop. Grover will be at cleanup and at center, followed by Big Bird at 1st and Oscar the Grouch who will be catcher. 7th is Elmo at 3rd base, 8th is Ernie at left, and finally Bert at pitcher. The manager will be the beloved Bob Johnson. Al Rossi: Nicely done, Andel! Now let’s go through the Hundred Acre Woods team. Tigger, despite being the pitcher, has also volunteered to hit leadoff. 2nd base-bear, Winnie the Pooh will hit second, then left fielder Rabbit, then 1st base-bird Owl to cleanup. Center fielder Kanga will bat next, followed by 3rd base-gopher… uh Gopher, right fielder Roo, catcher Eeyore, and bringing up the rear will be the shortstop Piglet. And of course, their friend Christopher Robin will be managing from the dugout. Andel Sanap: 9 innings of baseball with our own officials calling the balls and strikes. Umm, Al? What’s Chloe doing on the field? Al Rossi: Huh? We aren’t going to be doing any interviews before the game! Chloe Bourgeois: Helloooo, everyone! Despite being from France, I’ve managed to learn all about your cute little American game of… uh baseball. And I know that the way you start these things is to sing the national anthem! And who better to sing it than… me! Al Rossi: Oh boy. Andel Sanap: I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Chloe Bourgeois: So stand up! Put your hands on your hearts, and listen to the best rendition of the national anthem you’ve ever heard! Ahem. Ohhhh, say can you SeEeEeEeE! By the twilight’s last GLEEEEEEEAMING! Al Rossi: Well, I haven’t heard the national anthem sung quite that way before. Andel Sanap: Here comes the official! I believe he is throwing Miss Bourgeois out of the game! Al Rossi: As Chloe storms off, I think we can gloss over the anthem. The Hunny Pots take the field on defense as Cookie Monster steps up to the bat. Eeyore stands behind him with a catcher’s mitt in his mouth. Tigger warms up on the mound. Tigger: Okay, buddy boy! Hope you’re ready for my knuckle-under-sideways-overhead-curveball! With a half a twist of lemonade! Cookie Monster: Me no want lemonade! Me want home run! And cookies! Rabbit: Tigger! You’re not supposed to tell the batter what you’re pitching! Big Bird: Good luck, Cookie Monster! You can do it! Referee: Combatants ready? 3! 2! 1! Play ball! OK: Sesame Street All Stars: Bert, Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Zoe, Elmo, Telly Monster, Grover, and Ernie. Hundred Acre Woods Hunny Pots: Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Gopher, Roo, Kanga, and Rabbit. 9 innings of baseball, extra innings if necessary. Rules loosely enforced given the players involved. Game On!

  41. Well she can create and control water through magic. Water is what Hydro-man is. This is why I say this would be a contest of will. If Hydro-man had a strong will he would overcome her magic messing with him but I think it would irritate him and make him loose control thus giving Juvia better control over him. Hydro-man isn't a cool and calculating villain. Loosing his cool is a part of his character.

  42. Hello everyone, I'm going to begin appointing a member of the month, this will be changed out the 10th of every month. These member will be chosen because I believe they are someone who really reflects the website in a positive way. I want to choose someone who is a strong writer, debater, and who can show off just how much can be created with all the tools at play. It is with great please I will be rewarding the first member of the month spotlight to.. @broadwaybeyonder - I chose him not only does he hit every checkmark mentioned above, but he also promotes the website every single day on his twitter account. Without ever being asked to do so, he has gone out of his way to bring traffic to this site. He has the skill, the creativity, and the knowledge to show off the full potential of what this site stands for and a big reason I chose to stop it from shutting down. Lets learn more about our write of the month! Q: Tell us about yourself, what has broadwaybeyonder been up to these days? A: I live in the Chicago suburbs where I work as an actor. I've been a fan of comics/Sci-fi/fantasy stories for as long as I can remember and I like being able to write these setups featuring characters that I grew up with and ones that I've learned from the site itself. Q: It says you joined in 2011? But I feel like I debated with you before that, have you gone under any other names or am I just mis-remembering? A: My first setup was Arcade (From X-men) vs the Red Shirted Ensigns (From Star Trek) posted in 2009, almost exactly 14 years ago (sheesh I'm old XD). I've always gone by broadwaybeyonder; Broadway for my acting, and Beyonder for the Marvel character who's famous for having heroes and villains battle each other. Q: What brought you to this site, what keeps you here? A: I posted off and on through my college years because I enjoyed the concept of actually telling a story with the characters instead of just saying, "Who wins a fight between _____________ and _______________?" Even though some of my setups didn't get rave reviews, I still enjoyed the community that the site had built. During the pandemic, I went back to the site, which last I checked had been closed. To my surprise, the Administrator Fox had reopened the site and people were once again able to post setups and add characters. Seeing that I had a chance to not only write for CBUB, but to help it grow, I decided to start posting again, as well as start a Twitter page to promote the popular setups. Q: What's your favorite setup? What's the beat one you've written in your opinion? Why? A: It's hard to pick a favorite setup because there have been so many. But I do keep track of how each one performs (views, comments, votes, likes, ratings) and a couple do stand out. >Katie Ka-Boom vs Minerva Mink: Putting two of the 'lesser known' Animaniacs characters in a fight for who would get into the Animaniacs reboot. >Camen Sandiego vs Harley & Ivy: Carmen challenges the two Gotham Girls to a contest of who could steal the most from Gotham. >Trini Kwan vs Chloe Bourgeois 2: Power Rangers vs Miraculous. A rematch of a TCC battle that had gone to a draw the first time around. >Biker Mice from Mars vs Street Sharks: Two teams of anthropomorphic teens in a battle/race to the finish. >Mortal Kombat Universe vs Forever Red Rangers: One of the largest TCC battles I've done; 25 MK characters fighting against every Red Power Ranger up to Dino Fury. >Emma Peel vs The Baroness: My most recent entry on this list, pitting the spy from the original Avengers (The UK show, not the Marvel version) against Cobra's femme fatale. Q: What's your favorite type of story? Favorite Character? Why? A: I enjoy doing setups that are not just straight up fights. There are tons of characters to choose from the Database and not all of them are ones that would make sense for them to be throwing hands. That means I have to find creative ways of setting one character against another that doesn't have to involve fighting, which can lead to some pretty entertaining match ups. But when I do have an actual fight in mind, I have a recurring setup that can highlight it. I've mentioned TCC battles in the previous question. That stands for the Transdimensional Combat Commision, a multiversal UFC/WWE style fight league where combatants can duke it out. I took inspiration from the battles that were set in the "Arena of Khazan" hosted by Pat and Jay in the early days of the site, and people seem to enjoy the bouts I'm putting on now. Q: Will our Member of the month being joining us for the ongoing Special Writer's challenge? Any hints? A: Hmm. I might have an idea or two for an interesting East vs West match up. You'll have to sign up on the Magnetic Ferret to find out! Special thanks to @broadwaybeyonder for all that you do!

  43. Given that these are both teenage girls I think this will probably end with a surprise guest star.
