CBUB Fantasy Draft - Season 7 - Best Of Edition

CBUB Fantasy Teams is kind of like Fantasy Sports games.  You draft a Team and they get thrown into matches for a "Season" which is typically several weeks.

In case you need a refresher on the rules, here you go :

 

 

Season Seven is Best-of Slots from the previous Six seasons of CBUB Fantasy Draft.

So, some of your favorites are back in one combined sweet-roll of a season!

And, to add some spice, characters from the historical slot which had the most wins in the season they played will be pre-banned.  Yes, you will have to find an alternate route to victory with your team.

 

OK so in Season Seven - here are the Team Positions to draft for.

 

SLOT 1: The Team Anchor (from Season 2)
Character must be listed in Vs. Battle Wiki Tier 5. There's over 2000 characters listed as Tier 5, so I'm sure you'll find someone you like.

 

This is kind of an experiment using the ratings system that the Vs Battle Wiki has.  If their tiering system is congruent, then it solves a lot of problems for us in terms of getting evenly matched characters to choose from.

Now, some of these characters will have text like this example for Thor which reads...

"Tier: 5-A, 4-B at peak, higher with the Thermo-Blast, up to 2-C with the God Blast | 2-C | At least 2-A, possibly Low 1-C | 2-A"

To the above Thor example - I would have to deny Thor because, in a debate about it, people have a tendency to start at "Peak Thor" which we can see they rate at 4-B.

 

The Abomination entry, however, is very straight-forward.  Abomination is A-OK here.

 

Now, let's look at the X-Men's Colossus.  It reads:

"Tier: 5-A | At least 5-A, possibly 2-A or Low 1-C | Varies, usually 5-A, up to 4-B" 

That's because they rate in the "Phoenix-Force" version of Colossus.  And nobody is going to assume that we are talking about Colossus in possession of Phoenix Force unless it is specifically pointed out in the battle.  So, Colossus is A-OK here.

 

Examples: Iron Man, Colossus, Abomination.

Banned Characters:  None. Because the requirements listed above have changed.

 

 

SLOT 2: The Team Evil Genius (from Season 3)

A character known primarily for their intelligence, plans or mad scientific inventions and not their physical power. Doesn't have to be evil.

Examples: Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Pinkey and the Brain, Dexter's Lab.

Banned Characters: None. Because we will be using Challenge Terrains for geniuses this go around.

 

SLOT 3: The Team's Dark Secret (from Season 3)

A character from the Horror category. An individual, human or human-like character that comes from the horror genre.

Banned Characters:

• Brightburn
• Jason Voorhees

Reference Metrics from Season 3.

 

SLOT 4: Team's Japanese Asset (from Season 4)

Either a Giant Robot or Giant Kaiju monster character.  Not cosmicly powerful and not a character that destroys planets.  Typical Giant Robots and Kaiju.

Banned Characters:

• Godzilla
• Mothra
• Mecha-King Ghidorah

SLOT 5: The Team Entertainer (from Season 5)

A Stage Performer or Group who does any of the following: plays music, sings, dances, puts on a magic act, does comedy or otherwise entertains a crowd by traditional means.

Legit, normal performers only need apply.

Banned Characters:

• Weird Al Yankovic
• The Gorillaz
• The Tramp

SLOT 6: The Team's Precocious Child (Season 6)

A character that is a precocious child - typically with an abundance of intelligence or mischievousness but still clearly a kid.

Banned Characters:

• Moon Girl (Marvel Comics)
• Toyman (Hiro Okamura)
• Bart Simpson
• Alice
• Lisa Simpson
• Penny (Inspector Gadget)
• Calvin

SLOT 7: The Team Pet (from Season 4)

A character that is an animal. The animal could reasonably be expected to share a house with a human or live on a farm with a human. Not giant sized and vicious, naturally.

Anthropomorphic Toon animals will not be accepted. 

Banned Characters:

• Naga
• Ace The Bat Hound
• Appa

I can't quite narrow down the ones I like most, other than the team Anchor. That one is solid AF in my book.

But I'll say I actually don't like the OH SHIT! button so much. I can see a couple other folks have submitted it, but it's not really my cup of tea.

Also, I was wondering about how we might more clearly define power caps. Like, last season with the street level slot there was a weightlifting cap of a couple tons that I think really helped keep the field more even. And of course we have the Fox veto, which has kept some bad picks(including from myself) out of the draft. A power ceiling is hard to do with the OH SHIT! characters, but might be more easily determined for others.

The way forward for power caps will be the VS Battles Wiki.

They have done all the yeoman's work of categorizing thousands of characters and pigeon-holing their power levels.

I would really like to find some programmable way to integrate their data with the CBUB Database, but anyways, in the future I will very likely give slots VS Battles Wiki definitions so you can look up characters.

This is the way.

In the meantime, as far as this Season Seven goes... it's old skool, bruh!  Just put in a favorite classic slot you wouldn't mind seeing again.

I'd like to also voice that most of the slots for season 5 were great. Namely Deity, Entertainer, Wild west and planetary invasion were some I wouldn't mind again.

Question: I noticed you didn't ban Krypto from the Pet slot. He still good to use?

Also, for the dark secret slot does the character have to be human-like? Wondering if Cthulhu would be a good pick.
