Fury burned within Raphael’s eyes as he glared to his opponent. The red masked ninja quickly turned with his weight, pumping his right and left arm out as he gripped the handles of his twin sai, the ends protruding from between his fingers as he moved them out for his opponent’s mid-section. Ken quickly turned with his hips and he positioned his forearms vertically, moving his arms inwardly to divert Raphael’s thrusting attacks quickly but then the red masked Turtle swung his right arm upward in an uppercut, intending on striking the blunt handle end directly for Ken’s chin. The United States Martial Arts champion leaned to his left, evading the incoming blow as swiftly as he could, responding only by pouncing forward and he thrust his right arm outward to slam in his fist into the Turtle’s face. Raphael crossed his arms out in front of himself, blocking the fist solidly before he swung his arms upward, forcing an opening for him to exploit as he leaned forward and snapped his left leg out in a front kick for Ken’s chest, but Ken Masters hopped back and he slapped the kick down with his right hand only to then respond with a shift forward and jabbed his left and right out, only to turn in a spin to his right and he arced his right leg high and across in a spinning back wheel kick for the mutant’s head. Raphael quickly hunched down, evading the incoming kick before he shot himself to rise up and pounced forward, now thrusting his right knee up and firmly struck Ken directly in the chin, forcing the U.S. Martial Arts champion to stumble back.

The red masked ninja turned in a spin to his left and he swung his left hand across, firmly gripping his sai handle as he performed a spinning back fist and firmly struck Ken directly across his left cheek, causing the American fighter to stumble to the side. Raphael followed up by thrusting his right arm out and impacted the handle of his sai into Ken’s solar plexus, leaning in with his weight to add more power to the blow.

“GUH!” Ken gasped as the air was forced from his lungs.

Raphael quickly swung his left arm across, slamming his left hand firmly into Ken’s right cheek and again forced the American martial artist to stumble to the side. Not wanting to waste this opportunity, Raphael snapped his right leg across in a mighty roundhouse kick aimed at Ken’s mid-section and his foot immediately found its mark and blasted Ken directly in the ribs. The blonde half-Japanese fighter widened his eyes, feeling his ribs compress and again felt the air being pushed out from his lungs as a stinging pain was left behind.

Whoever his opponent was, whatever his opponent was… Ken realized that he was a lot stronger than he appeared and was coming at him seriously.

Raphael quickly rolled his arms outward in a series of quick thrusts as he moved his sai for Ken’s chest, but Ken instead responded by slapping his hands down, diverting the Turtle’s attack down. Raphael leaned forward and he snapped his right leg out in a front kick as he intended to slam his foot into Ken’s face, but Ken hopped and moved to his right, evading the Turtle quickly before he responded with his own attack. The red gi clad fighter swung his left arm across, intending to beat his fist fiercely into the side of the Turtle’s face. Raphael hunched down to evade the incoming blow. Ken responded to this by focusing his Ki to flow down to his feet, and he turned in a spin before he pushed himself to be airborne. He threw his weight across, and raised his right leg as he spun through the air six quick times, intending on smacking his foot into his opponent.

“TATSUMAKI SENPUU KYAKU!” Ken shouted.

Raphael widened his eyes, and he felt a series of quick strikes moving across his face as he stumbled back. After having landed the swift attack, Ken padded feet first onto the arena floor and zeroed right on the Turtle as he jabbed his left arm out twice, striking Raphael directly onto his forehead before he leaned in and pumped his right arm out in a straight fierce. A wash of pain moved through Raphael’s head, and his senses were momentarily jarred. Ken turned to spin, and he snapped his right leg out in a straight side kick for Raphael’s plastron protected mid-section and slammed the edge of his foot into his opponent’s body. The red masked ninja grunted and twitched his left eye in discomfort and frustration, but to Ken’s surprise… he felt a hardness where his struck. And he had come to the potential realization that shell either might be the real thing or was some sort of armored part of a really well-made cosplay. But not wanting to give his opponent much recovery time, Ken pulled his leg back and raised it high, only to bring it down in a swift axe kick and slammed his heel onto the top of the Turtle’s head.

“DAMN IT!” Raphael grunted.

Ken immediately reached out with his arms and took hold of Raphael around the back of his head, now pulling him into a clutch. The red gi clad American fighter then thrust his right knee up, slamming it directly into the mutant Red Ear Slider’s head four quick times. Raphael now felt the frustration within growing stronger, and he widened his eyes as he clenched his teeth before he leaned up and threw his arms up and apart to break the clutch. Ken widened his eyes as he felt the strength the Turtle possessed and dropped his jaw in momentary surprise.

Raphael spun his sai within his hands, throwing them upward directly in Ken’s face, causing the red gi clad man to flinch and lean back. The Turtle immediately pounced forward, and he swung his right elbow out, firmly striking Ken directly into the side of his head. A throbbing pain moved across Ken’s head, and a pressure built within his ears as a ringing pain emanated within. Raphael grinned upon seeing his opponent stunned and would capitalize on that by rolling his arms out, striking Ken Masters directly in his rib cage with the blunt ends of his twin sai. Ken felt the weapons pummeling into him, forcing air out from him while also beating into his pectoral muscles, leaving red markings behind with each impact. Those were going to bruise as time would go on. Following with this assault, Raphael then swung his left arm upward, slamming his fist into Ken’s chin with tremendous force. Ken felt his jaw jutting forward, his bottom teeth grinding against his upper set of teeth, and the throbbing in his head intensified only to be piled on with pain in his jaw and teeth.

The red masked ninja moved his hands down and slipped his twin sai into his belt, only to now rush in and he slipped to his opponent’s blindside and moved behind him. Raphael moved his arms, wrapping them around Ken’s mid-section and now lifted with his legs only to lean back and dropped Ken’s weight to the ground, allowing gravity to do most of the work and slammed the American martial artist’s back onto the arena floor, landing a mighty suplex.

“OUCH! That has GOT to hurt!” Michelangelo chuckled.

Chun-Li winced her dark colored eyes as she felt the strength behind the suplex. Surely, that would have to be something which Ken wouldn’t be able to shake off so easily. Guile furrowed his brows and crossed his arms, taking the time to observe the fight and watch what these newcomers could potentially be capable of. Ryu… remained silent and stoic, noting the potential which Ken’s opponent seemed to possess.

Raphael scrambled to now move on top of his opponent, straddling onto him and now took aim at Ken’s face. The red masked ninja now swung and pumped his arms out, slamming his fist down into the blonde fighter’s head with as much fury and strength that he could pile on. Ken felt each mighty impact hitting into him, causing the throbbing in his head to increase to a sharp pain moving through his very head. It almost felt as if his very skull wanted to explode from the sheer strength which the Turtle furiously piled onto him.

Ken raised his arms up, taking the blows into his forearms, as he then threw his weight to the left to get the Turtle off from him. Raphael felt a shift in his weight and found himself dropping onto his side before he quickly scrambled to his feet. Fighting through the migraine that Raphael had bestowed on him, Ken flipped himself onto his feet, despite the brief vertigo which came after the swift motion.

Realizing his opponent was dangerous in close quarters, the red gi clad fighter decided to change tactics. He attuned himself to the energy within himself and felt this power in the form of a rushing tingle, directing it to flow through his entire body and channeled it through his arms and into his hands. Ken took aim at the Turtle, now throwing his arms and hands out as he fired off a sphere of blue colored energy from his palms.

“HADOUKEN!”

Raphael drew and spun his twin sai within his hands and he swung his weapons apart in a reverse scissors fashion, using his twin sai to pierce and dissipate the energy. Ken widened his eyes in disbelief, but quickly recovered from the initial shock and drew upon the energy once more, again firing off a volley of glowing blue spheres from his hands.

“HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN!”

Raphael swiftly zipped from right to left as he zeroed right in on his opponent, aiming to close the gap between himself and Ken Masters. He had come far in this tournament and already learned to cope with enemies who were capable of releasing energy projectiles. As soon as Ken moved his arms back and cupped his hands, Raphael pushed himself to the air and pounced high and towards his opponent only to thrust his hands down, his sai facing downward.

“I’ve fought too many people like you to get caught up in those blasts!” Raphael shouted.

Ken hopped back from the twin sai, feeling the breeze as they had come down at him. As Raphael landed, Ken quickly leaned forward and snapped his left leg out in a front kick for Raphael’s chest before he jabbed his left arm out and then followed up with an uppercut to the chin. Raphael took the front kick directly in his plastron, no-selling the attack but he weaved under the incoming jab and leaned back from the uppercut. Ken raised his left leg up and swung it across to the left in a reversal crescent kick, moving his foot for Raphael’s face but the red masked ninja leaned back from the kick quickly. Ken directed the energy to move through his very body and channeled it to move through his right arm and hand and pushed himself to a leap only to now swing his right arm up as he now aimed to uppercut the Turtle directly in the chin.

“SHORYUKEN!”

Pain moved through Raphael’s chin as he felt his head snapping back followed by a throbbing pain in his jaw. Raphael shot his eyes open, shooting a fiery glare at the red gi glad Martial Artist as he was on his way down from the technique he had unleashed. He pounced forward, now pushing himself to a leap and he threw his weight to the right and snapped his left leg out to perform a jumping back thrust kick. Ken felt a mighty compression moving into his body and a sudden sharp pain moved up into his chest. He fell onto his rear from the sheer strength of the impact, and now clutched at his body as he fought to regain his breath.

Ken coughed furiously, but each time he did so— only added to the pain which the Turtle had inflicted upon him. He had been down this route before, fought too many battles to not recognize this pain. Ken knew that he might have to finish this fight quickly, otherwise his now cracked ribs were going to cost him this very fight.

“Raphael’s doing really good out there! Keep it up, bro!” Donatello spoke out.

Leonardo knew his brother well, even having fought with him a few times. Raphael was skilled and extremely strong, that much he had to give him credit for. However, he had seen what Raphael’s opponent was capable of in this fight— and he saw that he had a high level of skill which complimented the power he possessed. The field leader of the Turtles looked over to the opposing team, noting their calm demeanor as they watched the fight. He had come to the deduction that this was not their first tournament. They were veterans in their own right. Leonardo returned his sights to the battle ahead of him. If Raphael had any hopes of winning… He needed to fight smart and keep the pressure on Ken.

Ken placed his hands to the ground and pushed himself to his feet. He took in a deep breath of air through his nose and felt pain shooting through his very chest. He coughed as he exhaled, and now focused on fighting through the pain. It was perhaps the only thing which he could do at this point to keep himself in the fight.

Raphael spun his sai within his hands, only to thrust his left arm out as he moved his sai in a stabbing thrust for Ken’s chest. Ken quickly shifted back with a step, and he moved his right arm defensively outward and across, using his forearm to move at Raphael’s own wrist and diverted the weapon away from himself. The red masked ninja roared out in a mighty yell as he thrust his right arm out with the other sai in the same manner of attack, but again Ken shifted back with another step and he moved his left arm in the same manner, diverting the incoming attack away from himself. Raphael pulled his arms back and he thrust his sai down for Ken’s shoulders, but the U.S. Martial Arts champion shifted back with another step, and he positioned his right forearm up and horizontally, stopping the downward thrust from hitting their mark. However, Raphael leaned in with his weight as he swung his right leg down across to the left, striking his foot into the side of Ken’s leg.

“AARGH!” Ken yelled in agony.

Ken’s leg felt as if a knife had been pierced through it. More than likely, it was going to bruise, and this may even affect his mobility. If he sustained any more hits like this, then the Turtle was going to win. He winced his eyes in expression of the pain which was piling onto him.

Whoever this guy is, he’s tough! I just… can’t keep this going for long!

Raphael roared out in fury now as he spun his twin sai and now punched his arms out as he held the handles in reverse, intending on striking them directly into Ken’s face. But the United States Martial Arts champion snapped himself into a side straddle stance and raised his left arm up, parrying and diverting the blocks away from himself. Raphael pounced forward, now thrusting his right arm out in a leaping fierce punch but Ken maintained his stance and blocked the attack with his forearm, now feeling the pressure focusing there. The red masked ninja swung his left leg across in a roundhouse kick, moving with the momentum to now spin and arced his right leg back across in a spinning back wheel kick for Ken’s head, but Ken… instinctively shifted back and kept his stance, blocking with the same arm. Raphael leapt and he somersaulted over his opponent, landing behind him only to turn in a spin and he swung his right arm back across in a spinning back swing before moving his left arm across in a hook punch, with the handle of his sai protruding from between his knuckles. Ken turned in a spin, entering that side straddle stance and blocked with his right arm once more, deflecting the attacks as he shifted back.

Ken thrust his left arm outward, impacting Raphael directly in the forehead before he swung his right arm upward in an uppercut. Raphael felt a mighty impact slamming into his chin, forcing his head to snap back. Ken directed the energy within himself to flow down to his legs and he pushed himself forward and up, now spinning through the air as he raised his right leg up, striking Raphael hard across his head several times. A throbbing pain moved through the Turtle’s head, and he stumbled from the impacts. Ken quickly landed feet first onto the ground, and he directed his energy to flow through his arms and into his hands, now thrusting them out and fired off another Hadouken at point blank to Raphael. The hot-tempered Turtle grunted as he felt an impact slamming into his plastron as he was bombarded by the blast of Ki.

Ken, still attuned to this energy, now focused it to channel throughout his entire body. Directing the flow to his right hand, he felt a powerful rush in his fist. Willing the energy to ignite, Ken’s fist burst with flames, and he turned downward in a spin, only to push himself high up into the air as he spun furiously, impacting Raphael directly in the chin as he seemed to become a living pillar of flame.

“SHINRYUUKEN!”

Raphael felt his body being lifted off from the ground, along with a burning pain moving through his entire body. The pain was intense, and he had only felt flames like these from his battle with Iori Yagami but this time, it didn’t seem to so much as stop. Suddenly what came next was a sense of weightlessness and then... gravity. Raphael hit the ground flat on his carapace, and he grunted upon impact. Ken descended to the ground, his leg shooting with pain upon landing, and this caused him to wince and hiss in pain. He looked over to the Turtle and watched as he writhed.

Soon, Raphael went limp and lay there on the ground. Raphael breathed heavily before his eyes closed, and soon… darkness. Ken counted down in his head, and when the countdown finished… He turned and limped his way to his teammates, before dropping to his knees. At least now he could get some rest.

Michelangelo widened his eyes in shock, and Donatello quickly rushed over to Raphael, who lay unconscious and battered. Leonardo blinked upon seeing his brother, now having suffered his first and only defeat in the tournament.

“What just happened?!” Donatello spoke out as he now hunched down to examine Raphael, placing his hands on the now unconscious ill-tempered Turtle.

“Dude, we totally lost our tank! What do we do?!” Michelangelo frantically looked to his siblings.

“….We learn from this and fight better.” Leonardo replied.

“Ken, are you going to be alright?” Ryu asked as he looked down to his friend and training partner.

“Oh yeah! I’m gonna be fine! I just need five… maybe fifteen… Ugh. I’m gonna feel this for the next month.” Ken chuckled.

“Well, since we got the first round… Who is going to go next?” Chun-Li asked.

“Guess it’ll be my turn then.” Guile responded.

The Colonel now moved his right hand down to his pocket and drew out a comb, now brushing his hair up before taking a step forward and approaching the middle of the arena. He had looked over to the Turtles, first setting his sights down on the unconscious Raphael before he looked over to Michelangelo, Donatello and Leonardo.

Donatello moved his hands underneath Raphael’s shoulders, tugging his unconscious sibling back. When Raphael had been dragged to a safe spot away from the fighting, the red masked intellectual Turtle watched as Guile approached. Donatello blinked his eyes as he now moved his right arm back, now taking hold of his metal electric bo-staff within his grasp and drew the weapon out.

“Guess it’s my turn.” Donatello spoke.

“No. Mikey… You go next.” Leonardo said.

“Wait, Leo… I got this!” Donatello interjected.

Michelangelo blinked at the order which Leonardo had given him. This was odd for his eldest sibling to refuse another from claiming their spot in a fight and ordering another one out. But in the time in which he and his siblings fought together as ninja, Michelangelo damn well knew better than to question Leonardo’s leadership. When he suggested something or had given an order, it usually was for good reason. Michelangelo moved his hands down and then took hold of his twin nunchaku but not before looking between Donatello and Leonardo. The eldest sibling approached the brainy sibling, leaning forward to whisper.

“This isn’t the opposing team’s first rodeo. We need a level of unpredictability to throw them off. And right now, Michelangelo’s got that unpredictability and element of surprise to him.” Leonardo spoke.

Donatello blinked at this, and he simply now looked over to the younger sibling before returning his attention to Leonardo. In defeat, Donatello nodded and stepped back.

Leonardo turned and moved to approach Michelangelo. The eldest and youngest siblings stared at each other, eye to eye. Michelangelo felt a sense of tension in the air all around him as he stared at Leonardo and took in a light breath of air through his nose and released a sigh from within to undo that uneasiness.

“Raphael’s down. It’s just the three of us remaining. You need to be careful out there. These guys are veterans. They’ve probably been doing this for a long time. So right now, you need to get serious and focused. I know what you can do when you really apply yourself.” Leonardo nodded.

Michelangelo now looked over to the unconscious form of Raphael as he was being examined and tended to by Donatello. A sense of sympathy went out to his brother, and he never really did like it when he saw one of his own down and out. Michelangelo looked to Leonardo and was reminded of the time when a resurrected Oroku Saki had beaten him to near death and tossed him through April’s 2nd Time Around antique store. Michelangelo knew the gravity of the situation ahead of himself, and now readied his nerves.

“I get you, Leo… I totally get you.” Michelangelo whispered.

The wily Turtle, now focused and taking the situation seriously, now took a step forward and approached the middle of the arena. He looked over to Guile, who already seemed to be cracking his knuckles and turning his head from side to side, popping the joints in his neck. The Colonel clenched his hands firmly into fists, now squaring his shoulders as he set himself into a boxer’s stance.

“Alright, let’s do this, G.I. Joe.” Michelangelo snarked.

The wily Turtle spun his nunchaku, twirling them furiously as he set himself into his own fighting stance.

Michelangelo had a goal, and he was dead set focused on achieving it.

The next match in the Mirage TMNT storyline continues after a bit of a long hiatus!

Hopefully this match will be a good one and maybe even get some better responses than the last match up. Speaking of the last match up, I will say that I probably should've expected those results to come out the way they did. After all, Ken Masters is one of the most popular characters in Street Fighter, and maybe popularity played something of a part in the results with them coming out the way they did. I don't know. But none the less, at least the votes were close with a two point difference between Raphael and Ken Masters, and the loss even put Raphael at the very top of the CBUB contenders list, and that was something which I've been trying to get Raphael to achieve-- albeit I wanted to shoot for a perfect record but I guess nobody is perfect here on the CBUB. Although, I am confused to why Ken still won the last match, despite the fact that Raphael's fought opponents who were just as skilled, if not more powerful than Ken Masters in this arc... Are SNK's KOF characters just not equal to Capcom's Street Fighter characters, despite the two companies officially collaborating and crossing over?

Anyway, like the last match before-- we're going with a different match up than Capcom and IDW's official TMNT vs Street Fighter collaboration, and instead of Michelangelo fighting Chun-Li, I had opted to go for Michelangelo vs Guile. To me, Michelangelo vs Chun-Li was just too obvious of a match up and I didn't want to repeat what IDW and Capcom did in the comics with IDW Michlangelo being too friendly and perhaps even attracted to Chun-Li, which might have played a part in Michelangelo not wanting to fight and throwing the match against Chun-Li. So, I had decided that in contrast to having two fighters having a care free and fluid way of fighting, why not have Michelangelo go up against Guile? And keep in mind, Michelangelo, specifically Mirage Michelangelo here, WANTS to fight, and he is FOCUSED. I figure this would be a match more interesting match.

Hopefully, this one will illicit more comments and responses from readers.

Remember-- ENVIRONMENT IS ALSO A FACTOR IN THIS BATTLE! Something I feel like people need to seriously consider.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

--

Michelangelo is Low Tier Superhuman in terms of physicals. Think Above Peak Human due to his mutation and training.

Michelangelo possesses his Twin Nunchaku, Shurikens, Smoke Bombs, and Kunai.

Guile is in Peak Conditioning due to his training.

Guile has his moveset from the Street Fighter games.

Yes. A very non obvious match.

I think the same way Ken's skill and power was too much for Raf. Mickey's speed agility might be just what it takes to put Guile down. Plus the fact that the turtles are super strong so his blows are going to hurt Guile more than normal. Guile is a tough guy but he's going to get stunned real good in this fight.

It was either going to be Donatello or Michelangelo going up against Guile. In the comic, Donatello went up against Ken Masters and surprisingly... was actually holding his own. Mind you, this was the IDW Donatello we're talking about. Whether or not Mirage Donatello would be able to hold his own against Ken or Guile... is left up to speculation.

But I feel like this is perhaps going to be Michelangelo's big break here, especially going up against a fight veteran like Guile.

Great fight, RakaiThwei. Looking at his list of opponents so far in this arc, I don't think Michaelangelo has come across anyone who fights quite like Guile yet, Mr. Defensive Zoner himself. I see the fight starting like most Guile fights start. Guile spams Sonic Booms, Michaelangelo tries to jump over them and immediately eats a Flash Kick or two. He then decides to tech roll under them and gets grabbed for a German Supplex. What he does at that point is what determines if he can win or not. I'm not sure yet who I'm going to go with, want to give it one more day to see if anyone has some compelling arguments either way.

Getting engagements from the readers has been very difficult and motivation to write more has been low for me, especially considering my last match up and how it got very little reaction from readers despite the number of votes for the previous contestants.

Great set-up as usual, Rakai. The recap with Raphael and Ken was very good, but I had a slight feeling from reading it that you may have been expecting Raph to win the vote. As for low engagement with matches recently, I wonder if part of it may be due to some of the usual readers working on their own matches for the tournament.

As for the match, yeah, Guile's more defensive, reactionary style may at least initially give the more instinctual Michelangelo some fits. Guile probably isn't quite among the top tier of Street Fighter characters as far as power, though, so in a pretty tough fight, a particularly-inspired Mikey may have a shot at winning.

I was hoping for Raphael to win because he's my favorite Turtle and I think a win against Ken would have really been beneficial for him and his reputation in the eyed of other CBUBers. In fact, all of the previous matches were always going to lead up to fighting the fan favorite Street Fighter characters, and surprisingly, IDW and Capcom beat me to the punch.

Also excellent breakdown here as far as this fight goes but here is something to consider. Michelangelo has beaten Raphael in a sparring session rather easily before early in their career and his reactions against Raphael seemed to be quite instinctual. This could come to play against Guile.

Hey bud, yeah I'm sorry if I haven't been as engaged as of late. I have been trying to read them as they come in as well as others but it is harder to comment now. It's hard to find time anymore. I try to write my own stuff with one hand while taking care of the boy with the other. Even then, there have been things that I've tried getting posted that I haven't finished yet.

I'm sorry you're are hurting that roadblock, bud. I've worked on matches only to feel let down by the feedback as I don't see much participation anymore. Not like the old days. I think the few comments that I may get definitely helps keep me writing. I enjoy writing, and I also enjoy seeing what all of you write. Since joining this site way back when, I was definitely inspired by your matches. Those Predator matches have always inspired to try and do better with my own stuff.

With that said, I am definitely leaning towards Mickey. While I know this is Mirage Mickey, I've been reading the Last Ronin. I can only read so much here and there before I have my attention taken away, but Mickey has quite a bit to offer. I think he can definitely take the victory away from Guile.

I totally get that real life does come first and takes priority, because I myself sometimes get locked up in doing work and then needing to take time off for myself to cool down after rough weeks upon weeks in working in the realm of retail. And I cannot imagine what it must be like to take care of a small one. It has to be challenging.

Yeah, the participation just isn't really there anymore. The old CBUB days were definitely more active, but there were also a lot of naysayers out there when it came to my Predator matches. I am glad that you enjoy what I put out, and I am very happy to know that to you I am an inspiration!

Also, thank you for your breakdown for the match. Yeah, I know you brought up Last Ronin Michelangelo, but it's been established that through out the TMNT Multiverse, Mikey is always considered to be the most talented of the brothers, but he rarely does apply himself, but when he does apply himself in training or a fight-- he is a forced to be reckoned with just as much as Raphael, maybe even more.

I'm genuinely surprised to see the results, especially considering that this is Michelangelo, who is often wrongly perceived as the happy go-lucky party Turtle who doesn't train consistently which his 1987 toon counterpart set as the standard. And a total of ten votes total between Mikey and Guile. Very nice!

Definitely a well deserved victory for Michelangelo!
