Raphael thrust the blunt sai handles as he gripped them firmly in his grasp, aiming for the tall Russian man’s mid-section with the intent to pummel them into his opponent’s rib cage. But Duke was a man who had gain his experiences on the streets and fought his way to the top become the leader of the Addes gang. He raised his arms and swung them in an outside inside motion, using his forearms to take the brunt of Raphael’s attacks and diverting them away from himself. In retaliation, Duke quickly jabbed his left arm out with the intent to slam in his knuckles directly for Raphael’s face, before he immediately followed up by swinging his right arm up in an uppercut for the hot-headed Terrapin’s chin only to finish by swinging his right arm back across in a reverse swing. Raphael hunched underneath the incoming jab, but then he leaned back from the rising fist which was moving for his chin. When the reverse swing had come at him, the red masked mutant hunched down from the incoming blow. Raphael responded by turning with his hips and he thrust his arms outward, unleashing two quick jabs as he held the handles of his twin sai outward, intending on striking at Duke before he tensed up his leg muscles and pushed himself to a jump, now throwing his weight to the left and he snapped his left leg out for Duke’s midsection, performing a jumping spinning back thrust kick at his opponent. Duke grunted as the sai handles moved into his mid-section only to stumble back as the mutant Red Ear Slider’s foot collided into his solar plexus.

But the former leader of Addes pressed his feet firmly onto the ground and he stopped himself from moving back any further. He took in a breath of air as he shrugged his shoulders, rolling them forward while he turned his head from side to side, popping his neck joints. Duke then patted his body, smiling at the hot-headed Terrapin.

“Again.” The Russian man spoke.

Raphael raised his left brow in a quizzical fashion, but it wasn’t long as he then swung his left leg across to the right, performing a roundhouse kick and he firmly struck Duke across his mid-section before he turned in a spin and then thrust his right leg back out in a spinning back thrust kick for the large man’s stomach region. Duke tensed his muscles, allowing his body to withstand the blows which Raphael had landed upon him. The red masked ninja then followed up by thrusting his sai handles firmly into his opponent’s body once more but realized that Duke was just taking what was thrown and seemingly had been left unphased. Deciding to continue the assault, Raphael jabbed his left hand out, striking his sai handle into Duke’s stomach region before he snapped his right arm out to blast the other sai handle directly into Duke’s body.

Duke grunted with each impact, his muscles still flexed and holding strong as Raphael continued to hit away at him. But for Duke, this was where the freebies would be cut off from Raphael.

The tall Russian then swung his right arm upward and impacted his fist directly into Raphael’s chin, causing the red masked hot tempered reptile’s head to jerk back and stumble from being disoriented. Duke then swung his left arm across in a hook punch, slamming his knuckles directly into the Turtle’s cheek and the strength behind the blow was enough to make the mutant reptile stumble to the side.

Raphael felt a wash of pain moving through his head, but then felt a large hand grabbing the edge of the back of his shell, only to be pulled in before Duke then slammed in his right fist into Raphael’s mid-section, slamming his fist directly into his plastron. Then the next thing he felt was brief weightlessness, now finding himself airborne from the sheer strength of the blow, and Duke pumped his left arm up and punched his fist into Raphael’s mid-section again, sending the mutant Red Ear Slider flying up before Raphael came back down. When Raphael was low enough, Duke punched his right arm out—impacting Raphael hard onto his face with his fist as he managed to successfully execute his Crack Up technique.

Raphael was sent flying back but then he threw his weight upwards and back, now performing a mid-air reverse somersault and focused his weight down to his feet. He landed feet first onto the rooftop ground, now padding his hands to the ground while skidding back a little bit before he rose up to his feet. The hot-tempered Turtle then took in a deep breath of air through his nostrils, now releasing a sigh from within to undo the pain within himself.

But Duke already would be rushing in towards the Turtle, now raising his right leg up and then slamming it to the rooftop ground with enough strength to create a tremor. Raphael suddenly found himself catapulted into the air from the explosive force of the stomp, and Duke followed up by swinging his right arm across, firmly hitting Raphael directly in the plastron— now executing his Seismic Impact and Crushing Lariat techniques on the Turtle. The hot-headed reptile flew across the rooftop, only to once more drop onto the ground.

The mutant Red Ear Slider placed his hands to the ground, and he pushed himself to his feet. Raphael firmly gripped his sai in his grasp, spinning them furiously as he shot a fiery glare at his opponent. The Russian now ran at Raphael once more, and when the distance between the two had closed significantly— Duke swung his left arm across, and his right as a follow up, intending on delivering two mighty blows onto the Turtle. But Raphael hunched underneath the incoming blows, and he retaliated by pumping his left arm outward— striking the blunt end of his sai handle onto Duke’s solar plexus and leaned in with his weight into the strike. Raphael then spun his sai in his right hand, only to grip the handle and now had the sharpened pronged side facing forward— and he moved his weapon diagonally up, now moving it for Duke’s mid-section and chest.

“AAAGH!” Duke released a brief pained scream as he reeled back from the Turtle.

Raphael grinned devilishly to see his opponent now shifting back. He quickly swung his right leg across, striking his foot onto Duke’s right knee with tremendous strength, causing the man to buckle a bit in his stance before he brought his leg back to the right and slammed his heel into the Russian’s left knee. Raphael pulled his leg back and took aim at the chin of his opponent, only to then snap his leg up high and slammed his foot directly for it’s intended mark. Duke felt his head snapping back, his teeth firmly grinding against one another as he stumbled back from the blow. Raphael quickly rushed on ahead, now stepping his feet onto Duke’s knees only to push himself up to a leap. He threw his weight to the left and swung his right leg across to performing a leaping roundhouse kick, smacking his foot onto Duke’s face before he turned with the motion and swung his left arm back across, now slamming the back of his fist hard across Duke’s face once more.

Raphael soon landed feet first onto the rooftop ground and he leaned forward only to snap his right leg up in a front kick, taking aim at Duke’s chest and his foot impacted directly to where he had intended for it to go. The tall dark skinned Russian grunted when Raphael’s foot struck into him, and Raphael took a step forward only to pounce ahead and he shifted his weight while in mid-air, spinning sideways only to swing his right leg down and struck his foot hard onto the back of Duke’s neck as he landed a perfectly executed spinning corkscrew kick.

Duke hunched and grunted in pain as the shockwave of Raphael’s attack moved through him, causing him to develop a throbbing pain in the back of his neck and moving up the back of his head. He gritted his teeth and widened his eyes in anger, now focusing his fury on the red masked Turtle. Duke swung his right arm across, attempting to clothesline the mutant Red Ear Slider but Raphael hunched down from the large man’s forearm. But Duke was a man whose agility and speed betrayed his rather large build.

Quickly drawing upon the energy within himself, Duke channeled it to course through his entire body and moved it down to his legs. He rushed at Raphael only to then swing his right leg diagonally up in a high roundhouse kick, only to then push himself to a leap and he moved his left leg across in another roundhouse kick— performing his Swivel Gun kicking technique. The hot-tempered Turtle felt his head being impacted and then his body was struck by something powerful, and he was now sent flying back some ten feet. Gravity pulled down at Raphael, and he slammed flat down onto his carapace as pain moved through his entire form but worked to fight through it as he placed his hands to the ground and pushed himself to rise to his feet.

“Stubborn… Resilient. I like this. You would’ve done well in Addes.” Duke spoke as he pointed out to the Turtle.

“Yeah, ain’t I real pain in the ass? Totally one of my better qualities.” Raphael responded with a gruff tone as he chuckled.

“Cute… Real cute. But that stubborn attitude is only going to hurt you more in the long run if you’re not dead by then, freak!” Duke replied.

Duke swiftly snapped his right leg out in a front kick as he aimed it for Raphael’s head, but the red masked Turtle side-stepped to his opponent’s left and rushed in to close the gap between him. He leaned in towards Duke, now snapping his left leg forward and out in a side kick— his foot already colliding with Duke’s solar plexus, and then Raphael turned in a spin only to then swing his right arm back across, his elbow bent out as he now slammed it directly into the side of Duke’s head.

Duke felt two mighty impacts moving into him, one in his abdominal region and the second moving across his very head, and a wash of pain moved through his senses. Raphael then spun his twin sai within his hands, gripping the handles firmly and he tucked them between his palms. With the handle ends protruding out, the red masked Turtle pumped his arms in two uppercuts, slamming the handles directly into his opponent’s abdominal region and leaned in with his weight. The former gang leader of Addes soon found himself feeling the air being pushed from his lungs, and he lurched from the sheer force of the impacts Raphael delivered onto him. The hot-headed mutant Red Ear Slider then thrust his right leg up, his knee bent out and soon collided with Duke’s chin before he turned in a spin to the left, and then swung his left leg across in a spinning back wheel kick—colliding his heel into the side of Duke’s head, and continued with the motion only to swing his right leg diagonally up for his opponent’s face once more, performing a high roundhouse kick which smacked the Russian hard.

The red masked Turtle tensed his leg muscles before he pushed himself to a leap, and he snapped his right leg out only to slam the blade of his foot directly into Duke’s nose. A wash of pain moved across Duke’s face and the Russian screamed in horrid pain. But this was something which served to only ignite the fury which swelled inside of the man, and so he widened his eyes and unleashed a furious roar from within as he now shot a glare at Raphael. He summoned the vast energy within himself, and now directed it through his entire form. He crossed his arms out in front of himself, only to part them as a fiery explosion erupted in front of Duke as he had unleashed his Minefield attack upon the Turtle.

Raphael, unfortunately, had been caught in the explosion and he was now sent flying back across the rooftop and then he slammed down flat onto his plastron protected chest. Pain radiated through the ninja’s body, but he was no stranger to pain. Raphael had recalled the few times he had endured similar things in his career as a vigilante and the few times he had sustained attacks from opponents who had pyrokinetic abilities. The mutant Red Ear Slider placed his hands to the ground once more, slowly moving onto his knees before he stood back up onto his feet and shot a glare at his opponent.

“Your persistent… But that persistence is going to get you getting killed.” Duke spoke with a tone of fury.

“So far, hasn’t done me in yet.” Raphael responded gruffly.

Duke then quickly rushed in at the Turtle, now clasping his hands together and then swung his fists down in a hammer fist swing as he intended to slam his hands onto Raphael’s head. But Raphael side stepped to his opponent’s right, and he spun his sai in his left hand— now gripping it and had the sharpened ends facing outward. He swung his left arm across, the sharpened tips of his sai grazing against Duke’s skin. The tall Russian hissed and howled in agony before he retaliated by swinging left arm down in a reverse swing, aiming to hit Raphael hard across his face. But the Turtle hunched down underneath the incoming strike— and he responded by leaning forward and snapping his right leg out in a side kick aimed at Duke’s face. Raphael collided the blade of his foot directly into Duke’s face, slamming his foot into his nose area again and a burst of blood erupted from the Russian’s nostrils. Pain throbbed in Duke’s head, and he was forced to clutch at his face with both hands, but this left him completely open for Raphael.

The Turtle then swung his right and left arm across, slamming the ends of his sai handles directly into Duke’s sides, directly right where his ribs are. The tall dark-skinned Russian felt his body compressing and he grunted in immediately discomfort and pain. Then Raphael took aim for the middle of Duke’s chest, and he thrust his right arm forward and slammed in the handle directly in the middle of his opponent’s sternum. The former Addes gang leader felt a sharp pain moving through his chest and he wheezed a cough as the agony shot through him.

But like before, Duke took hold of the energy within himself, and he allowed his building anger to now serge through his very being along with the energy that he possessed. Duke again swung his right arm across as he aimed to slam his fist into the side of the Turtle’s head, before he would thrust his left arm straight out, but Raphael hunched down underneath the first punch, then weaved around the second. Duke swung his right arm up in an uppercut, but Raphael crossed his arms out in front of himself and took the blow directly in his forearms. Duke leaned forward and he snapped his right leg out in a front kick, directly slamming his foot against Raphael’s forearms, causing the Turtle to briefly skid back. He rushed on ahead, now leaning his right shoulder out and rammed into the Turtle, causing him to lose his footing and stumble back.

Taking the rising energy within himself, Duke quickly channeled it through his arms and into his hands— now focusing it on manifesting as flames. The former gang leader’s hands erupted with flames, and he punched his right hand down to the ground, causing a massive tremor to erupt as flames burst all around Duke and moved towards Raphael as he unleashed his Ground Zero technique. Raphael, having been caught in the attack, now felt a burst of heat moving through him and was sent flying back only to hit the blacktop of the rooftop. The Turtle now writhed in discomfort and agony, now working to fight through the pain Duke had inflicted upon him as he managed to defiantly push himself to his feet.

Duke slowly made his way to Raphael, his fist clenched as he was more than ready to finish this fight and crush the Turtle beneath his heel. As he drew in close, Duke swung his left arm across, but Raphael quickly ducked underneath the punch, and he swung his left arm back across— slashing his sai for Duke’s mid-section, leaving three lacerations on the man’s mid-section. Raphael followed up by spinning his sai in his right hand, only to thrust it down and he punched it through the Russian’s thigh. Blood erupted from the entrance and exit wound, and Duke winced as he howled in agony. Raphael yanked his weapon from his opponent’s leg, and he set his sights on Duke’s forehead, only to punch his right arm out and slammed the sai handle directly into Duke’s head. Raphael leaned in with the blow and caused the back of Duke’s head to hit the ground. Raphael then slipped his sai into his belt, and quickly pounced on Duke only to furiously punch down away at his face. Splashes of red soon spattered along the ground, and it wasn’t long until Raphael stopped as soon as his opponent stopped moving.

With heavy breathes, the mutant Red Ear Slider slowly stood up and stared down at his now downed opponent. Suddenly, the Turtle snapped his head up as soon as the sounds of helicopter engines echoed through the rooftop, and he narrowed his eyes as a hovering light came to view. Raphael took several steps back as he kept his eyes on the helicopter as it was nearing, and he raised his left hand up to hold it over his eyes to prevent himself from being blinded by the helicopter light. Rather than choosing to stay in his current spot, Raphael ran over to where his brothers were awaiting him.

“Dude, you kicked ass out there!” Michelangelo spoke out as he looked at Raphael.

“Yeah, but I’m guessing this is the last guy we’re supposed to take on!” The hot-headed Terrapin responded.

Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael set their sights on the helicopter as it slowly descended to the rooftop. And as it descended to the rooftop, the side door of the aerial vehicle opened and out hopped a blonde-haired man who appeared to be in his forties— wearing nothing more than a white gi top with a pair of red hakama pants, and pair of wrist bands. The man stared to each one of the Turtles, grinning with anticipation as he slowly nodded his head in approval to the previous match which he had witnessed not long ago.

The man waved his right hand to the pilot in the helicopter, gesturing for him to take off and leave. The pilot nodded and soon lifted off, now flying away from the designated battle area.

“You four have come a long way in this tournament. Even when facing overwhelming odds and almost certain defeat, you’ve somehow managed to overcome those challenges. But this is where it all ends for you four costume wearing freaks. You’ve climbed your way to the top, but soon will come crashing down.” The man spoke.

“Really? And who the fuck are you supposed to be?” Raphael spat angrily.

“My name is Geese Howard… And now you will face a strength and power like no other.”

Geese now drew upon the energy within himself, and he flared his fingers on each hand apart. Energy crackled around the man as a blue aura now surrounded himself, and Geese slowly clenched his hands firmly into fists before he threw his arms down and opened his hands once more— causing the ground to briefly tremor.

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael looked at one another. The four siblings had come to realize that this opponent had no issue of flaunting his strength and from what they had seen— he was extremely powerful. But they had all come so far, and defeated opponents who possessed powers which were beyond their wildest imaginations, opponents who for all intents and purposes could be considered truly superhuman. As they looked to one another, all four Turtles remembered how they had fought Martial Artists who reached heights only achieved through intense and grueling training, fighters who were granted superhuman abilities by making a pact with a cursed deity and having their blood tainted from accepting Orochi’s power, and some were infused with powers through cybernetic enhancements or genetic augmentation.

The four brothers huddled in with one another, forming soft smiles on their faces.

“Alright, we’ve really come a long way. We’ve cut it pretty close at times but here we are. We’ve faced some fierce competition with abilities that we didn’t think were possible for people to have. I just want to let you guys know that I’m proud of you. All of you. If Master Splinter’s watching… He’d be proud too.” Leonardo spoke.

“Yeah, we’ve been kicking some major ass out there. Might as well go out there and do our best, you know? I mean this guy is boasting about all the strength and power he’s got… Well, we’ve got the tools and the talent!” Michelangelo responded.

“Well, we’ve all had our turn… Leo… You got this!” Donatello nodded.

“Yeah, and he ain’t the only master we’ve fought… Remember Saki?” Raphael asked.

Leonardo turned around and he set an icy stare over to the man known as Geese Howard. In many ways, he shared some similarities to the very enemy whom the Turtles were raised and trained to take down. For a moment, Leonardo now saw none other than Oroku Saki taking Geese’s place as he stood there, but then blinked only to see Geese there instead. He slowly moved his right hand down, now taking hold of Haohmaru’s katana and then drew the weapon out from the sheath which served as its home. Leonardo wrapped his left hand around the handle, now having both hands grip the weapon as he set himself into his battle stance while raising the blade.

“So… You are courageous enough to face me then. But that courage will only go so far, and you will see the differences between us, boy.” Geese spoke with arrogance.

“You’re not the only master we’ve fought in our lives. And you certainly aren’t going to be the last.” Leonardo responded.

Leonardo and Geese remained where they stood, waiting for the other to make their move. Silence permeated through the rooftop and tension filled the air surrounding them. Geese smirked and scoffed before he stepped forward and now rushed in towards the mutant Red Ear Slider. Leonardo shifted with a step, hands firmly gripping the handle of Haohmaru’s katana, and he zeroed right in on his opponent.

Who would be left standing… Remained to be seen.

The next and final match up between the Mirage Turtles and the Boss Team is finally here as it had been alluded to in the last match between Raphael and Duke, and to think it's being posted during Super Bowl Sunday. So hopefully, there aren't too many people who are preoccupied with people tossing around a ball and ramming into each other, giving folks concussions and whatever bodily injuries they could suffer all in the name of sports.

Writing out the recap between Raphael and Duke was... interesting so to speak as I had to write it out early starting on either a Friday night or a Saturday night, and I managed to get two pages in and only today was I able to actually finish this on Sunday. And with a few hours to spare as well. But thankfully, I was able to find a video show casing Duke's moveset and I like to think that I was able to reference enough of his moves to showcase how powerful he happened to be against someone like Raphael, who already had taken on quite a few of SNK's iconic characters, and even a couple of heavy hitters as well as far as I can recall. I also wanted to have Duke push Raphael hard enough to where the Turtle felt like as if he had to draw blood from his opponent in order to do some lasting damage on him considering how tough Duke is supposed to be, as he was a powerful boss in SNK's KOF: Maximum Impact series.

And now we're at the crux of the confrontation between the two teams here between Leonardo and Geese Howard. With Geese, I kind of wanted him to have something of a grand entrance which... I like to think I did with the ending of the previous match up serving as a prelude to his arrival and I also wanted to show that Geese is someone who doesn't really have a problem in flexing and flaunting whatever money and power, both figuratively and literally, in front of those whom he considers to be superior to. But also, what should be kept in mind that Leonardo has come across some heavy hitting SNK characters and even managed to take a few down-- the only one who had defeated him was Terry Bogard, and he did have a draw against Geese's son, Rock... But he's come a long way from those two blemishes in his experience in this tournament, so now he has to do his best to utilize whatever experiences and skills he's acquired. I think that's what it's going to come down to... Skill and Experience vs Power. And Leonardo has to be focused here if he's going to have a chance.

Hopefully, this will be a good match up.

Remember-- ENVIRONMENT IS ALSO A FACTOR IN THIS BATTLE! Something I feel like people need to seriously consider.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

--

Leonardo (Mirage) is Low Tier Superhuman in terms of physicals. Think Above Peak Human due to his mutation and training.

Leonardo (Mirage) possesses his Ninjaken, Hoahmaru's Katana, Shurikens, Smoke Bombs, and Kunai.

Geese Howard is in Peak Conditioning due to his training.

Geese Howard has his moveset from the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters games.

This is what's up right here.

Geese is Shredder level with the power attacks. Leonardo is in for some hurts. I really loved Geese in Tekken. That was a dope.

Glad to know that this is something that can be considered a fight.

But Leonardo is focused here, and out of all the Mirage Turtles, he was the only one who actually stood up against Oroku Saki in their first battle-- being the first to critically wound Saki, and also the one to deal in a decisive blow. And he also took out the Shredder again when he had been resurrected via magic worms, and fought him directly in a decisive battle before he outright decapitated him.

But unlike Mirage Shredder, Geese does have Ki manipulation abilities. So Leonardo is going to have to rely on his skill and experience in this tournament if he's going to fight Geese directly, and may have to use tactics.

Under normal circumstances I’d lean towards Geese winning out against Leo, but after following this story arc for so long and seeing the experience and skills Leo has learned from all of it, I think I’m now gonna argue that Leonardo just barely wins here.

It's not going to be an easy fight for Leonardo here. That's for certain. Especially considering that Geese us a power house in both the AOF/Fatal Fury and KOF universes.

I really wanted Leonardo to face an opponent who could present him with the possibility of defeat.

Predictabo!!

Great match, RakaiThwei. I first looked to the arc thus far and saw that Leonardo lost to the only fighter to canonically defeat Gesse, Terry Bogard. I also saw he tied against Geese's son, Rock. So, story wise, he does not have any inherit advantage. Skill wise, I think it will be very close. I'm picking Geese because I think his defensive abilities may throw Leo off. The man could parry Rage Arts in Tekken which was wild.

Great set-up as usual, Rakai. The Turtles are really getting tested against this set of KoF fighters. Raphael even had to resort to stabbing Duke to gain the edge.

As for the match, ... I dunno about this one. I watched the Fatal Fury anime films back in the '90's, so I think I have a sense of what Geese can do. Alongside his power, Geese seems to specialize in parrying and countering other fighters' best attacks to a point. Leonardo's gonna really have to dig deep in his ninjutsu bag of tricks on this one, and maybe even draw power from Haohmaru's katana (dunno if the weapons themselves from Samurai Shodown have power on their own?).

Well, that's one for Geese right there... Ouch!

But as far as the Tekken version of Geese is concerned, I am not particularly counting that one as he's not really canon to either Tekken or AOF/Fatal Fury and KOF. Otherwise, I would have mentioned that in which versions of Geese I am using.

Yeah, I had to have Raphael push hard against Duke.  After all, Duke was one of the more powerful SNK bosses at the time when Maximum Impact was released in the early 2000's.

Also, I am using more of the game versions of Geese but not so much the anime version of the character as the Fatal Fury anime isn't considered to be part of game canon as far as SNK's continuities for AOF/Fatal Fury and KOF is concerned. But Leonardo definitely is going to have to pull out all of the stops here. He's going to treat this like how he fought Shredder twice in the past.

As for Haohmaru's sword, there doesn't appear to be any magical properties to it and this looking up the weapon on the SNK wiki.

Holy crap, this was a very well received match and a very well deserved and hard earned win for Leonardo!

Looking at the votes, this was an extremely close match and I am so glad that it turned out the way that it did! Leonardo's definitely not coming out of this unscathed and he's definitely going to need some serious downtime.

We're nearing the end of the tournament now that the outcome has come this way!
