Raphael watched as his eldest brother took the next match and he knew that everything rested on him and Leonardo. The red masked Turtle stared on as he took in a moment to observe both Leonardo and Terry Bogard’s level of skill as well as the level of technique which they displayed. Already, he could feel his own strength returning to him after his own battle against Joe Higashi, whom Raphael managed to get the upper hand on. But right now, everything depended on Leonardo. Raphael looked over to his brothers, Michelangelo who had fought to his best ability but came up short against the red clad Kunoichi, Mai Shiranui— and Donatello, who was still recovering from his own battle against Andy Bogard, despite neither combatant not getting an upper hand over the other. The mutant Red Ear Slider frowned as he looked upon his battered brothers, and a sense of nervousness creeped into his mind.

“You gotta do this, Leo… Tell me all our training wasn’t for nothing. Show me it wasn’t for nothing.” He whispered to himself.

Leonardo gripped his twin steel ninjaken firmly within his hands as he then would swing his arms, slashing his blades in horizontal reversal swings as he took aim for the Southtown fighter’s chest region. Terry leaned back away from the incoming slashes, and he widened his eyes as Leonardo then shifted with a step forward and he swung his blade gripped in his right hand diagonally down to the right. Quickly reacting, Terry swerved to Leonardo’s left, evading the blade rather quickly. Reacting to this, Leonardo turned in a spin as he took aim for Terry’s neck region and he swung his arms across, bringing the twin steel ninjaken swords for a neck slash—though, he would stop before the blades would make contact, however— Terry ducked down from the incoming strikes.

Leonardo was none the less pleased that he didn’t have to stop—his opponent was quick on his feet after all. But would he see what he had in store for him? Leonardo quickly then had spun the handles of his swords in his grasp before gripping them, now bringing his arms down for a double overhead slash with the twin ninjaken. Terry dropped onto his rear as he worked to scoot back, but Leonardo jerked his arms back and instead leaned forward only to move his right leg up, impacting his knee firmly into Terry’s face— right in the middle.

“GUH!”

The Lone Wolf was sent reeling from the red masked Turtle, and Leonardo was already in hot pursuit.

He rushed on ahead now, moving in towards his opponent and pounced ahead. As Leonardo soared close for Terry, the mutant Red Ear Slider immediately parted his arms, slashing his twin swords as he once more took aim for his opponent’s chest region. Instinctively, Terry rolled back and allowed Leonardo to pass over him. Planting his hands onto the ground, and pushing himself up while throwing his weigh to the side—Terry took to the air like a spinning top, and kicked his right leg upwards for Leonardo’s plastron.

“RISING TACKLE!”

Terry managed to strike Leonardo in the chest, causing the red masked Turtle to grunt in discomfort while sending him in the air. Upon his descent, Terry had somersaulted in mid-air and landed feet first. Quickly taking advantage of this opening which he created, he leaned forward and aimed to ram his left shoulder firmly into his opponent. The Turtle’s carapace was struck, and Leo flipped in mid-air only to slam firmly down onto his plastron. Terry rushed in for the reptile, and quickly went onto the offense as he jabbed his left out twice, and then leaned in for a straight from his right. Leonardo weaved underneath the incoming strikes, and then leaned to his left as he twirled the ninjaken within his right hand and then thrust the handle upwards for Terry’s chin. The Southtown Lone Wolf felt his head snapping back, his teeth grinding against each other as a wash of pain and discomfort entered his senses.

Leonardo swung the ninjaken within his left hand, and he brought the blade across to Terry’s neck. Terry Bogard couldn’t help but widen his eyes as he saw that his opponent was going for a killing stroke, and then… Leonardo stopped as soon as the blade made contact, stopping the blade from cleaving the man’s head off. But then the Turtle had snapped his right leg forward and out, firmly striking it into Terry’s lower abdomen region. Quickly, Leonardo spun to the left and he turned his blades with the flat side facing outward, and swung his arms across to sweep his blades for Terry’s knees— and impact was made and Terry fell back, hitting the ground on his shoulders. Without any hesitation, Leonardo pushed himself up and took to the air, now throwing his weight forward and kicked both legs down as he aimed to use his opponent as a landing pad.  Leonardo’s drop would be true, as he watched as his opponent had gasped for air, and widened his eyes to further accentuate the discomfort and pain. The Turtle pushed himself off from the Lone Wolf, and allowed Terry to regain himself.

Fighting to ignore the pain in his chest, Terry now focused on the energy within himself and as he drew from within— he channeled that power to flow through his entire body and directed it to move into his right arm and hand. Raising it, he then positioned himself to a crouched position and thrust his hand to the ground. Impacting his fist, and releasing that energy—cracks in the ground formed as a burst of yellow energy moved in towards Leonardo.

“POWER WAVE!”

“Didn’t work the first time, what makes you think it’ll work a second?” Leo whispered to himself, as he raised his right arm and slipped one of his ninjaken back in the leather sheathe slung over his back.

He stepped forward and rushed right in for Terry once more. As he neared Terry, Leonardo tensed up his leg muscles and then he pushed himself to take to the air once more, jumping ten feet high up and eight feet across. As he soared ahead, Leonardo then moved his right hand to his utility belt, taking a hold of a smoke pellet and tossed it right in towards the Southtown fighter. As it had impacted the ground, a waft of smoke now expanded, obscuring Terry’s vision.

“Think Leo’s got this, Raph?” Michelangelo looked to his older sibling.

“I don’t know… I think so. I hope so.” Raphael answered.

Terry moved his hands, trying to brush away at the smoke which was surrounding him. However, something would impact him firmly against his knees, and if he hadn’t known any better—it felt like a foot striking him from in front. Quickly reacting, Terry leaned forward with a thrust from his left, striking at nothing. Then something would impact him from the side of his head on the right— and it felt like a blunt object. A wash of pain entered into Terry’s head, his senses now jarred for a moment. And again at the back of his head.

Lurching forward, Terry winced his eyes as he once more focused on the energy within himself and again channeled it through his body and into his left arm and hand this time. He punched his left fist to the ground, and an even bigger explosion of energy burst from the ground as the concrete cracked.

“GROUND WAVE!”

The dust blew away from the sheer power of the technique, allowing Terry to see his surroundings once more. However, there was no sign of Leonardo. Terry looked to his left and then his right, but then immediately turned to now see a set of three shurikens moving right in towards him. He leaned to the left, evading the incoming bladed weapons and then turned to watch as they instead struck at a statue behind him. Leonardo rushed right in for Terry, and the red masked Turtle would swing his right arm across and firmly strike Terry hard across the chin with his fist as his left gripped his ninjaken firmly. Terry staggered from the blows, and he quickly rolled with the punch as he then swung his right arm back across as he took aim for Leonardo’s face. The terrapin was struck firmly, and Terry piled on the pressure as he leaned forward and thrust his right fist out—firmly striking his opponent right in the middle of his face.

“Come on, Leo! You got this!” Donatello shouted.

Shaking his head from side to side to fight off the pain, Leonardo widened his eyes to now see his opponent leaping and turning, raising his right leg up and dropping it down in what could only be described as a leaping axe kick for his head.

“CRACK SHOOT!”

Leonardo turned around took the strike firmly in his carapace, allowing his natural body armor to endure the blow for him. Terry grunted as he had wince his eyes, feeling the toughness of the shell and how the impact put a strain on his leg. The Turtle pushed himself back against the force, causing Terry to stumble upon landing. He turned, and Leonardo swung his left leg diagonally up over to the right as he took aim for the Lone Wolf’s head, and his foot made impact— firmly striking across Terry’s face, causing him to stumble to the side. Moving his left arm up and slipping his ninjaken in the other sheath slung over his back, Leonardo then took aim for Terry’s shirt and took hold of it as he reached out with his arms. Immediately turning in a spin, and leaning forward— he threw the Southtown fighter firmly onto his back while performing a hip toss.

Andy and Mai watched on intently as Joe was beginning to slowly come around.

“My freakin’ head… Anyone get the number of the truck that hit me? What? This is still happening?” Joe asked as he stared ahead with weary eyes.

Terry hit the ground, but then rolled forward as he now positioned himself up to his feet.

He shifted with a step and snapped his right leg out in a side kick, impacting his foot firmly into Leonardo’s plastron and the Turtle pushed forward against the force of the kick. Terry had never felt anything like this before, it was as if that plastron, which he assumed was a costume… was definitely meant to take blows like that. He watched as the Turtle moved his hands up, now grabbing hold of the twin red cloth handles of his twin ninjaken only to draw and swing them downward for a vertical slash. Terry jumped back, barely evading the blades. Leonardo followed, slashing his swords over from right, left and in reversal swings.

Again, Terry moved back away from the swinging slashes. He focused on the energy which was within himself once more, and directed it to his arms and hands once more. Quickly, punching down at the ground with his fists, he released multiple bursts of energy in towards the red masked ninja.

“POWER WAVE!”

Leonardo scrambled, moving from side to side in a serpentine fashion to evade the multiple shockwaves of energy. He needed to keep this up, make sure that his opponent’s reserves of energy were depleted. Leonardo would run, leap and hurdle over the incoming shockwaves, and rush right in towards Terry as fast as possible. As he neared his opponent, Leonardo pushed himself with his feet, and launched himself right at the Lone Wolf—now snapping his right leg out and firmly striking it into Terry’s face in a leaping side kick, causing the Southtown hero to drop onto his back. Placing his hands firmly down onto the ground, Terry rose to his feet only to meet an incoming fist gripping a sword handle, being smack firmly across the side of his face. Leonardo capitalized on that, as he then swung his left leg down and swept his foot across Terry’s ankle, dropping the man down onto his side.

Terry pounced and wrapped his arms around Leonardo’s legs, tackling the Turtle onto the ground. Quickly, Terry scrambled to move onto Leonardo, but the red masked Turtle had moved his right arm up and slammed the handle of his sword firmly into the side of Terry— knocking the wind out from him. Taking this opportunity, the mutant Red Ear Slider threw his weight to the left, tossing Terry off from himself.

Both rose up to their feet and rushed right in towards one another.

As they drew near, Terry thrust his left arm forward and out, intending on slamming his fist down onto Leonardo’s face but the Turtle had leaned forward and rolled underneath the punch. Instinct and training took over as Leo turned in a spin and pushed himself upward, now snapping his right leg across in a leaping crescent kick and smacked it firmly across Terry’s face. Leonardo moved his arms out, placing his hands onto Terry’s shoulders, and pulled him in and thrust his left leg upwards— slamming his knee firmly to Terry’s face as he reeled him in.

Terry drew upon the reserves of energy from within and now focused it to his right arm and hand. He threw his arms up and parted them, breaking Leonardo’s grip. The red masked ninja then widened his eyes as Terry threw his fist outward, impacting it firmly against the Turtle’s plastron. A burst of yellow colored energy erupted, engulfing Leonardo and Terry— and the ground beneath Washington Park, or rather the area Terry and Leonardo were on… collapsed.

“BUSTER WOLF!”

“LEO!!” Raphael shouted.

Terry watched as the ground cracked and caved in, and Leonardo fell back into the darkness below. He hadn’t realized until this moment that he might have overdone it. The mutant Turtle had hit the solid ground below and as Terry looked down, he saw that the power of the Buster Wolf exposed the sewer tunnel underground. Leonardo released his blades as he laid there, and struggled to get back up onto his feet… but then went limp, and he simply was unable to continue on with the fight.

“YES!” Joe shouted as he pumped a fist.

Andy gave off a soft smile as he had nodded to his older brother. Mai clapped her hands as she then rushed over to the Lone Wolf, and jumped to embrace him within a hug to enjoy this momentary celebration. It seemed as if Team Fatal Fury was about to claim this very match between the two teams.

Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello were at a loss for words—things weren’t looking good right now, and they stared to one another in a moment of overwhelming concern for their brother, Leonardo. It seemed as if he had the fight in the bag but something… something didn’t seem to go the way they had expected. Michelangelo stood from the fountain which he had been left to recover in, and Donatello placed his hands onto the ground and rose to his feet. Both the younger siblings now shuffled their way over to the collapsed ground and looked to see where Leonardo had fallen, and a look of worry entered their faces.

Raphael however, was the last to make his way to the collapsed ground and looked upon Leonardo. He watched as his brother writhed in pain and was working to stay conscious. He replayed images of the years of training, the battles which they had endured against the Foot clan, the Triceratons, mutants, and even literal legends… And he looked to Leonardo’s battered form, recalling when he had been once ambushed by the Foot and nearly beaten to death. And that was something... Raphael couldn't and wouldn’t abide by.

Adrenaline burst within him, feeding him renewed strength. He could feel his heart beat rising, anger swelling up inside of him right now but Raphael had years to learn to control that anger. He had learned to control it to where it served him, not so much him being a slave to it.

Raphael then moved his arms down to his utility belt and then took hold of the twin handles of his sai, and he rushed forward to both Terry and Mai while they were celebrating what could be their pre-emptive victory. When he had gotten closer right in towards him, Raphael quickly then had pushed himself up and thrust both his legs out—firmly striking Mai in the shoulders with a drop kick and knocking her into Terry and causing the two to fall into the collapsed street and into the sewer tunnel underground.

Michelangelo, Donatello, Andy and Joe rushed to the collapsed street and looked to the underground tunnel. The drone recording the team battle flew and hovered down to the tunnels below.

“RAPH!!” Donatello yelled out.

Terry and Mai hit the ground of the underground sewer tunnel, splashing in ankle deep level waters now and were shaken up by the sudden attack by Raphael.

Raphael had quickly moved over to Leonardo while both the remaining two members of team Fatal Fury were gathering their bearings. Quickly, he had moved his hands down and slipped them underneath Leonardo’s shoulders and pulled him back into the darkness to an area where he would be safe. Raphael knew that he was the last one on his team, and if he were to help his brothers progress onward with this tournament… He would have somehow pull through… As of now, as far as Raphael knew, he is the last chance they had. He set his attention forward, watching as the two were working to get familiar with their new surroundings but quickly slunk into the shadows.

“OH, THIS IS DISGUSTING!” Mai shrieked.

“I think this might be a storm drain, not a sanitation drain… I hope.” Terry responded.

Suddenly, from the darkness— a figure moved like a shadowy furious wraith. Raphael quickly moved right in towards Terry and Mai, and went onto the offensive as he then snapped his left leg horizontally over to the left, impacting Terry firmly in the mid-section to knock him out of the way. Terry staggered as he widened his eyes as he took a moment to realize what was happening.

Raphael suddenly rushed right in towards Mai, and leaned forward— tackling and ramming his shoulder into her, knocking the Kunoichi into the next tunnel ahead and rushed ahead after her. He leapt up, now thrusting his knee upward but Mai crossed her arms out and took the blow directly with her forearms but the strength of the Turtle was enough to send her reeling back, causing her to lose her footing and she slipped only to try and recover into a roll, but then soon found herself falling off a ledge to a lower area of the sewer.

Mai splashed into what felt like eight feet of water, experiencing a moment of weightlessness before she swam to the nearest concrete ground and quickly rushed to stand.

The aggressive Turtle followed, and he jumped down only to land feet first down onto the moist concrete ground as water from collected rain fell behind him. He hunched down upon landing as he gripped his sai.

Mai readied herself as she unfolded a fan and positioned herself into the Shiranui-ryu fighting stance.

“Don’t think I forgot what you did to Mikey…” The red masked Turtle growled, firmly gripping his sai in hand.

So here is the next part of my Mirage TMNT storyline and what potentially might even be the last one depending on the outcome. With the drafts being over, hopefully this can get some readers to be more engaged. This match up is definitely going to be different because here is something which I feel a lot of readers and potentially voters are not taking into account of and that's the environment. Skills and powers definitely count but environment also plays a factor in battles, and I feel that is something which is never really discussed or taken into consideration of, so we're going to consider environment for this one because the battle ground has changed as mentioned in the storyline. So hopefully with the drafts being done, and now with some changes for this match up being done-- things can be engaged with in a little bit more than usual.

Also, I would like to state that the Fatal Fury OVAs are not to be considered here as they are NON-CANON in either Fatal Fury or KOF continuities, and SNK has not commented on their placement in either series.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

The environment definitely favors Raphael this round, not sure if Mai’s flames will help her considering their surrounded by murky sewage water. I’ll probably vote Raphy.

Well, it's not like they're fighting in shit-water. They're in a storm drain which tends to collect rainwater, thankfully.

I would say the water levels are deep enough to swim in, maybe eight to fifteen feet deep. Plus there are ladders and stairs which offer higher ground and there's coverage as well.

Ok, everyone. When voting, keep in mind that Raphael is more naked than Mai. 😋

A great recap of the Leonardo/Terry fight. Things definitely appear to be escalating beyond a typical tournament match.

On a semi related note, I was very curious which team you were going to have them face if they easily dispatched Team Fatal Fury. There aren't many teams in my mind that are better than them, unless you were going to go straight to Kyo's team. Obviously things have heated up in an interesting way in this team battle and I don't think many other teams would have fared as well for a variety of reasons.

Back to the battle at hand, as previously stated I too believe the storm drain location gives Raphael a definitive environmental advantage. Can't picture Mai having too many fights down there. The question is if his adrenaline rush/anger will lead him into being reckless at all. That could work to Mai's advantage.

Overall, I think there are too many factors going into this fight that favor Raphael for Mai to overcome.  He has seen her moves and I'm sure given the suddeness of the current events, she is working a little bit off the back foot.

It's probably good for Mai that they did drop into the storm drain. She wears very loose fitting clothes and Raph's sais are very sharp. Not a great combination if you are trying to avoid tearing lol.

Mai will put up a good fight, but I think the victory will belong to Raph.

Well, the Turtles are definitely being pushed here as far as the fight between the and Team Fatal Fury is concerned, and with Raphael being the last Turtle-- well, everything rest on him and I was genuinely surprised to know that Leonardo outright lost. General consensus according to the last match was that Leonardo had the skill and battle experience to carry him over Terry-- that didn't reflect so much in the votes really. So, I definitely had to write up how this match came to be, and what kind of effect it definitely had on Raphael.

I wanted to build up the Turtles to fight the New Japan Team or Kyo's team as you put them, but I also firmly wanted them to establish themselves that they can keep up in the tournament when they fought against the likes of Team Kyokugen and Psycho Soldier, both of whom the Turtles defeated. So seeing them go up against Team Fatal Fury seemed like a big step, maybe too big of a step and now it escalated to this.

As for Raphael's anger and adrenaline rush, as far as I know in the Mirage comics-- Raphael is still very much the hot-headed Turtle, but he was a lot worse than he is now back in earlier issues of TMNT, but as the comics went on-- Raphael sort of got more and more control of his anger but he's still the shoot first ask questions later kind of guy. He's gotten better at controlling it, especially when in Vol. 4 of the comics, he's in his thirties.

And hey, it's good for Mai that they ended up in a storm drain... She could've dropped into nasty poo-water! Ha ha ha!

Thanks for the comments!

Another great set-up, Rakai! I think the Leo/Terry recap was closer than the final votes reflected, which is good because that vote should've at the very least have been closer in my mind. As Johnny mentioned, it definitely feels like things are escalating with this match.

As for the match, I think Raph could beat Mai in a neutral environment, given his own skill and since Mikey gave Mai a good fight prior. The sewers should just give him that much more of an edge. I'm getting a feeling that Raph may have to restrain himself from taking things too far in the end, though.

But however the votes goes, I think a lot of us may agree that seeing Mai dripping wet is a good thing. 😛

You know maybe I should have had the fight in a sanitation drain instead of a storm drain! Poo-water would keep the perverts at bay!

Good stuff Rakai, as always I'm pretty impressed with what you are able to come up with in your writing.

In particular, aside of the battle aspects/reflections from the previous match up, I like how you found a way for Raph to fight fairer against these opponents, the way you portrayed Raphael's change in fighting style, and the emotional connections he feels in being left as the "Leader" of the team for the moment.

Now, it looks like everything is on him, and while he may be thought of as a hot head by most, Raphael is certainly passionate about his fight as well, and I have a feeling that if done in the right way, with the sewer tunnel being an extra bonus to him here, he might be able to overpower Mai here with his attacks and his induced rage.

Great job, Rakai!

Sure hope this is not the end of the arc! Sorry haven't been able to comment on the last several ones, but I have tried reading through them as well as rating/voting

If this is the final one, I'd definitely want to see what you do next

My vote is with Raph... not only is he incredibly skilled and strong,i feel like he will be carrying a lot of rage from seeing his brothers lose. Kind of all on the line type of battle for him

If this is going to be the end of the TMNT storyline, depending on the outcome-- then I would likely be moving onto the IDW Turtles but I feel like they would need their own respect thread on the CBUB however there are a bunch of respect threads for them yet... none of them are capturing what the IDW version of the brothers are able to do together or individually quite completely. Who knows what will happen if I decide to change my mind regarding on dropping the Mirage Turtles?

Yeah, when Raphael is angered-- he is something of a force to be reckoned with, assuming he has learned to control his anger and in Vol.4 of the Mirage comics, Raphael has learned to get some semblance of control over it, though he's still hot tempered but nowhere near where he used to be in the earliest issues of Eastman and Laird's TMNT. So, I think he would be able to reign himself in even with the added adrenaline rush he's going through.

And you know the fight or flight response, everything gets cranked and sharpened, even pain tolerance is shot through the roof.

You know what's crazy, I got bored and was like "I wonder if CBUB still my old matches) and CBUB was a whole a** website again.  Lol.  So it feel great to be back!

As for this fight, I think Raph will take the dub due to durability and strength.  (I know this match was voted on already but I had to write something darn it).

Mmm... Still not ringing a bell.

Anyway, this is my newest storyline which I am doing and it's been going on since... I think October of 2020, and I've only recently decided to continue it because of real life situations getting in the way of my creative writing. I'm no longer doing my Predator storylines unless I feel incented enough to do so, controversies of Yautja feats not withstanding and all, but with Turtles, I feel like I have more comfort in writing them and have a respect thread to show how powerful they really are.

Might wanna check that out here:

I'm no longer doing my Predator storylines unless I feel incented enough to do so, controversies of Yautja feats not withstanding and all, but with Turtles, I feel like I have more comfort in writing them and have a respect thread to show how powerful they really are.

Might wanna check that out here:

I remember your Predator fights.  I remember a few against The Crazy 88, Sho'nuff, etc.  It's fine you don't have to remember me but I am in old head on this site.

For your Turtle ark I'll give it a look, I enjoyed the Raph v Mai so I'll check out the rest.
