Michelangelo swung his nunchaku in his right hand across from right to left, unleashing a quick double swing attack with the tethered weapons before he twirled the weapon in his grasp, exchanging the handle between fingers before he swung his weapon of choice upward at his opponent. Mr. Big crossed his Escrima sticks in front of himself, blocking the first attack and when the upward swing had come for him— the taller man who lived up to his namesake then swung his left arm down and swatted down at Michelangelo’s nunchaku before he thrust his right leg outward, taking aim for the Turtle’s chest with a mighty front kick. Michelangelo felt a mighty impact slamming directly into his body, but his plastron was strong enough to withstand and take the full brunt of the kick. Seeing the smaller opponent fighting to keep his footing, Mr. Big quickly swung his arms, moving his sticks as he took aim at Michelangelo’s chest and face as he charged forward. The wily Turtle widened his eyes as he quickly stepped back, all while he leaned back from Mr. Big’s attacks, even swinging and batting his nunchaku at Mr. Big’s weapons, deflecting them to the best of his ability. But the tall bald man then turned with his left side facing his opponent, now moving his shoulder out and ramming it into Michelangelo before rolling his hands out, delivering two quick punches on the mutant Red Ear Slider’s face.

A brief wash of pain moved through Michelangelo’s face as he lost his footing, stumbling back before he dropped and landed onto his rear. Michelangelo shook his head from side to side, fighting off the brief disorientation as he also fought against the brief pain that Mr. Big had inflicted upon him. He hadn’t expected his opponent to land a few hits on him already like that. And he was strong too. That was easy to tell based on the lingering pain that he was feeling from the kick and the two punches.

Mr. Big now came rushing at Michelangelo, with both his sticks gripped firmly and held high only to be brought down as he intended to slam them down and strike at Michelangelo’s hand. The Turtle gasped and widened his eyes before he threw his weight to the right, rolling and quickly evading the sticks as they struck at nothing but the solid ground. The tall bald man with the sunglasses turned his head in the direction where the mutant Red Ear Slider had moved, only to continue the offense as he thrust his left and right arm out four times— intending on bringing pain to the young ninja. But Michelangelo, almost instinctively, swung his nunchaku downward and deflecting the incoming attacks. The Turtle tensed his leg muscles, only to push himself up and to his right only to now perform a quick cartwheel flip to get some distance between himself and his aggressive opponent, now moving both his heels across and aimed to strike them onto Mr. Big’s face.

The tall bald man felt two quick strong impacts moving across his jaw. He grit his teeth as he now shot a glare at the wily reptile, becoming quite unhappy that Michelangelo had the audacity to so much as even manage to hit him and on top of that— Mr. Big even felt mild pain from what Michelangelo had done. Focusing on the energy within himself, the former kingpin of South Town then swung his right arm down across and then up to the right, unleashing a wave of orange colored energy towards Michelangelo as he unleashed his Ground Blaster wave.

“RRGGGHHA!” Mr. Big roared as the energy moved across the rooftop.

Michelangelo widened his eyes as he also hadn’t expected his opponent to utilize energy-based attacks. A harsh reminder for Michelangelo to always keep that in mind, as the energy wave now collided and washed over him. He suddenly felt himself being lifted off from the ground, a brief weightless now came to him only to then leave as gravity pulled him down. He hit the ground, flat on his carapace. Mr. Big again gathered the energy within himself, now swinging the stick in his left hand across and up, unleashing another Ground Blaster wave at Michelangelo. The red masked Turtle quickly rose to his feet, and he pounced from the path of the incoming energy wave, now setting his sights on the tall bald man. Big came at the Turtle, swinging the Escrima stick in his left hand across to the right and then back across to the left as he aimed at Michelangelo’s head. The Turtle hunched down twice, quickly dodging the path of the swift attacks. Big quickly then spun the other stick in his right hand, now swinging it upward as he took aim for Michelangelo’s chin, but the Turtle saw it just in time and he pushed himself up only to throw his weight back, only to back flip away from his opponent.

“Oh, you think you can get away from me, son?” Mr. Big taunted.

The former kingpin of South Town then charged in after Michelangelo, now swinging his left arm across to the right as he moved it for Michelangelo’s head, but the Turtle hunched down and allowed for the stick to pass right by him. Big then spun the Escrima stick and then swung it down for the top of Michelangelo’s head but like before, Michelangelo leaned and hopped to his opponent’s right. Mr. Big then arced his right leg across to the left, performing an inward crescent kick which caught the Turtle across the face and Mr. Big continued with the motion as he turned and snapped his left leg out in a back thrust kick, striking the Turtle directly in his mid-section. The wily red masked Terrapin grunted as he stumbled back from the blow.

“Gotcha now, boy!” Mr. Big loudly spoke as he grinned.

The tall bald man now focused on the energy inside of himself once more, and he directed it to flow directly through his arms. With skill, Mr. Big then swung his Escrima sticks across and diagonally— all while moving after his opponent as he attempted to overwhelm Michelangelo with his Crazy Drum attack. Pain suddenly moved onto Michelangelo’s shoulders, and he also could feel the impacts striking onto his plastron as well as even the bridge of his shell. The red masked wily Terrapin was never more thankful to be born with a natural adaptation like his shell and if it weren’t for that, then the punishment Mr. Big was inflicting on him surely would’ve been dire. Mr. Big chuckled as he swung the Escrima stick in his right hand up, firmly striking Michelangelo’s mid-section with a loud clack, and the Turtle’s plastron took the weapon full brunt but the strength behind the blow was enough to make Michelangelo fly off from his feet and he soared across a good twelve feet only to hit the hard floor of the rooftop.

“Leo, this isn’t good! Mikey’s floundering out there!” Raphael spat.

Leonardo merely stared on ahead as he watched the battle, crossing his arms in front of his plastron protected chest but then tapped at his chin with the knuckle on his finger— observing the level of strength and skill of Michelangelo’s opponent to the best of his ability. The taller man was skilled, that much was indeed certain, and he even possessed a modicum of power which only added to his arsenal. Surely, he would be an overwhelming opponent for just about anyone who had the misfortune of coming across him.

Michelangelo pushed himself to his feet, now gripping his nunchaku firmly in hand. As he did so, Mr. Big was already continuing the assault as he zeroed right in on the mutant Terrapin and he swung his arms across to the left, bringing both clubs as he aimed to strike at the head of his opponent. Michelangelo quickly ducked underneath the path of the incoming sticks, managing to evade in the nick of time but Big already then would bring his clubs down and across for Michelangelo’s legs. The Turtle pushed himself up to a leap, again evading the sticks, but then Mr. Big parted his arms, swinging the clubs in a reverse scissors manner only to strike at Michelangelo’s plastron with a loud clacking noise created upon contact. The tall bald man then swung his sticks inward horizontally, again striking at Michelangelo’s mid-section before he leaned inward and batted his right elbow across the Turtle’s face before he shifted with his weight and snapped his left leg out in a front kick, again striking his foot into Michelangelo’s chest and sending him falling onto his backside.

“Michelangelo’s bitten more than he could chew! I don’t like this!” Donatello spoke out.

Mr. Big stepped forward, now running as fast as he could towards the Turtle who was only beginning to get back up. As soon as Michelangelo had risen to his feet, already the former kingpin of South Town attacked as he swung the club in his left hand diagonally upward, firmly striking Michelangelo on his chest before he leapt to the air while swinging the club in his right hand for Michelangelo’s chin as he executed his California Romance technique. The Turtle felt a stinging pain moving up his chin, and he was sent flying up only to crash down onto the rooftop ground. As he hit the ground, Michelangelo groaned as he placed his hands down and slowly turned himself onto his chest. He spat a mixture of saliva and blood and worked to fight through the pain that his mouth seemed to be going through.

“After I get done with your ass, I’m gonna make an example out of you and your friends over there!” Mr. Big loudly spoke out.

Michelangelo blinked at what the man had said and then he pushed himself to his feet once more and shot a glare at the tall bald man. Mr. Big couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head in disapproval of the defiance which his younger, smaller opponent seemed to show for him. He would even go as far as to say that the mutant Red Ear Slider had some level of contempt for him.

“Oh, so you think you’re a bad ass now, huh?” Mr. Big chuckled.

The former kingpin of South Town then swung the club in his left hand across to the left and then over to the right as he aimed to strike at Michelangelo’s head, but the Turtle quickly leaned back from the incoming strikes. Mr. Big quickly followed up on the assault as he swung his right arm down, attempting to slam the club onto Michelangelo’s head but the Turtle quickly hopped to his opponent’s right and countered by moving his nunchaku across, batting away at Mr. Big’s arm and his mid-section on both front and back. The Turtle then pounced forward, and he swung his right leg upward, now impacting his foot directly into the bald man’s chin, forcing him to stumble back.

Big took the time to register as to what had happened, and when he did— he furiously growled and bared his teeth, now roaring angrily as he charged in at Michelangelo. He swung the club in his right hand back across in a reverse swing, now aiming to strike at Michelangelo’s mid-section but the Turtle pounced forward and up— snapping his right leg out in a jumping side kick and his foot smashed into Mr. Big’s face, colliding with his left cheek bone.

“UNGH!” Mr. Big grunted as he stumbled.

Seeing an opportunity, Michelangelo then moved in on his opponent as he spun and twirled his tethered weapons. He swung the nunchaku in his right hand upward, slamming the blunt end of his weapon directly into the former kingpin’s chin and caused his head to jerk back. The red masked wily Turtle then swung and spun the handles of his nunchaku in his left hand, now batting away at Mr. Big’s mid-section before he pumped his right arm out in a quick straight punch for the taller fighter’s solar plexus. Big lurched forward as Michelangelo’s fist sunk into his body, forcing the air to leave his lungs and he could feel the strength behind the punch, almost forcing himself to release whatever previous meal he had. Big felt a warm, tangy liquid moving up the back of his throat but quickly forced it back down. Michelangelo pushed himself to a leap, now throwing his weight to the left only to then swing his right leg across in a jumping roundhouse kick, solidly striking Mr. Big across the face with his foot.

Mr. Big lost his footing and he found himself stumbling to his right and now worked to fight through the dizziness as he shook his head and blinked firmly. His face was stinging with pain, as a bruise began to form on his cheek along with some swelling. Big then spun his clubs in his grasp only to then begin running towards the Turtle, now pouncing forward and he flew right at Michelangelo as he moved his clubs out with the intent to collide them into the Turtle as he unleashed his Cross Diving attack.

But Michelangelo instead pushed himself up with his feet, now taking to the air and he threw his weight forward and down, performing a somersault over his opponent. Upon landing feet first onto the ground, Michelangelo turned to face his opponent as he too was recovering from missing with his own attack. By the time Mr. Big turned around, the red masked ninja already would be on him as he swung his arms across, lashing out with his nunchaku. Mr. Big felt several impacts striking into his body, and he gasped out with each impact made. Michelangelo then swung the nunchaku within his left hand upward, impacting Mr. Big’s chin and then brought it back down— impacting the man’s bald head and forced him to lurch from the impact.

“AAAAUGH! SONUVAB--!” Mr. Big would be cut off as a wash of pain now moved up and onto him.

Michelangelo thrust his right knee up and firmly impacted the former kingpin of South Town in his solar plexus once more, while thrusting his right arm down and firmly struck his elbow onto the taller man’s back. The Turtle raised his arm, lowered his leg and he continued with his assault as he now took aim at Mr. Big’s head, now jabbing his left fist directly into the bald man’s face before he turned with his weight and thrust his right fist directly into Big’s right eye— smashing the taller man’s shades upon striking him.

As his opponent was reeling back and losing his footing, Michelangelo snapped his right leg out in a side kick as he aimed it out for Mr. Big’s mid-section and again collided his foot into the man’s solar plexus before he would recoil his leg back and then swung it high diagonally to the left as he performed a quick roundhouse kick for Mr. Big’s head, striking his foot into the left side of the former kingpin’s head. Pain moved through Mr. Big’s face, and his head now throbbed with agony that he had never expected to so much as experience as of today. He widened his eyes and shot a furious glare at Michelangelo as he retaliated by thrusting the club gripped in his left hand out, and then swinging the club in his right hand over from left to right as he aimed for Michelangelo’s head.

But the Turtle hopped over to his right and managed to evade the incoming thrust attack. When the second attack had come, Michelangelo then stepped inward and side-stepped to Mr. Big’s left only to then thrust his left knee up and he took aim for the taller man’s groin region. Mr. Big widened his eyes as a sharp pain moved up through his body, and the center of that pain came from his pelvic region. The former kingpin of South Town now unleashed a howl of agony as he now bent down and clutched at his groin.

Michelangelo spun his nunchaku, moving the weapons upwards and then down only to tuck them underneath his arms. Quickly he turned in a spin and immediately swung his left leg across as he performed a spinning back wheel kick, slamming his heel across Mr. Big’s head and forced the man to now stumble about. The red masked wily Turtle then followed up by then snapping his right leg up diagonally in another roundhouse kick, striking Mr. Big along his head once more. He shifted with a couple steps and now swung the nunchaku in his right hand across to the left, striking it alongside Big’s mid-section, now hitting him in the ribs before he followed up with a reverse swing and struck the other side of Big’s ribs. Michelangelo then swung the nunchaku upward at Mr. Big’s chin with enough force to send the man’s head careening back.

Pain shot through Big’s teeth, and a burst of blood mixed with saliva flew from his mouth. Suddenly, more pain moved down through his head as Michelangelo brough the nunchaku down and the former kingpin of South Town now dropped onto his right knee as he planted both his hands to the ground to stop himself from falling any further. In defiance of the possibility of defeat, Mr. Big shot to his feet and now he swung his Escrima sticks wildly from left to right as he intended on hitting Michelangelo’s mid-section.

But Michelangelo hopped to his right, and he swung down at Mr. Big’s wrist with the nunchaku gripped in his left hand with tremendous speed and force. As Michelangelo’s nunchaku struck its intended target, a loud wet breaking noise had echoed through the rooftop before Mr. Big shot out a scream of agonizing, debilitating pain.  Mr. Big was forced to release his weapons, dropping the Escrima sticks onto the rooftop ground.

“Oh shit, he did it!” Raphael grinned as he watched, surprised at the entire turnaround of the fight.

Michelangelo now stepped around to meet his opponent, giving him a fiery glare. Mr. Big simply moved his battered and bruised face up, blood seeping from his lips and a streak of blood running down from his left nostril. His cheek bones were bruised and swollen, and the top of his head had a couple bumps formed from the fight. A wash of shock and fear now slowly crept onto Mr. Big’s face, as he shuddered from both the agony and the fear which Michelangelo had put in him. He couldn’t help but ponder where this fight had gone wrong for him.

The red masked Turtle turned with his weight as he swung his right arm, now unleashing a mighty hook punch and he slammed in his knuckles hard across Mr. Big’s face. The former kingpin of South Town suddenly had his vision flash before it went black, and he didn’t even so much as feel gravity pulling him down as he dropped onto the solid ground of the rooftop. Michelangelo then turned around and he stepped his way back over to where his brothers stood, waiting for him to regroup with them.

“That guy was an asshole.” Michelangelo spoke out.

“Glad to see you come through with flying colors, Mike.” Leonardo nodded.

Donatello now stepped his way over to his younger brother, placing his hands onto his shoulder as he guided him back to get a quick examination of him to see if there were any injuries which would need some medical attention. The wily Turtle was none the less relieved to know that the fighting was done, or rather his battle at least. Aside from a few hits which Mr. Big had landed onto him, Michelangelo for the most part was very much fine.

The last opponent from the opposing team now made his way over to the Turtles. He clasped his right hand into his left palm, now cracking it as he also rolled his shoulders to undo whatever stiffness had been there. The man then turned his head from side to side, popping the joints in his neck as he spoke out.

“So… two out of four of you managed to secure a win. But this is where the end of the road is for you.” Duke coldly spoke out.

The four brothers now looked over to one another, and then pondered to who would be the next to fight. Michelangelo was too fresh from his battle and would need the time to recover. Donatello had already fought in the first match. This only left Leonardo and Raphael to fight. Leonardo moved his right hand up— reaching for the handle of his ninjaken sword as he stepped forth, but then he stopped as an arm had moved in front of him. It was Raphael. Leonardo blinked his eyes in brief confusion, but he knew his brother and completely understood why he would make such a gesture like that.

“After this guy, there’s still one more… We don’t know who the last opponent is, so we might need you to be benched until then. Got it?” Raphael sternly spoke.

“Loud and clear, Raph.” Leonardo responded.

Raphael now stepped over to where Duke had been waiting, and he moved his head as the height difference between himself and the tall dark-skinned Russian was quite apparent. But in Raphael’s career, he had fought opponents who were taller and perhaps even stronger than him as far as physicality was concerned. Raphael took the time to study Duke’s features, noting the many scars on his face and the harsh, almost unchanging demeanor of the man. It did nothing to intimidate the Turtle, as he had come across Duke’s type quite a few times.

“You just signed your own death warrant, fool.” Duke spoke out.

The red masked Turtle remained silent as he narrowed his eyes, and he clenched his hands firmly into fists as he stood defiantly before the Mephistopheles gang leader.

“You might wanna come up with some original material, ass wipe.” Raphael grunted.

“You’ve got a sense of humor… I like that. But that’s not gonna save you here.” Duke responded.

Raphael and Duke now both made their way to the middle of the helipad on the rooftop. As they had arrived at the center, the two took a few steps back away from one another but dared not take their eyes off one another. Duke moved his hands to the cuffs of his sleeves, unbuttoning them before he rolled them back. Raphael clasped his hands and cracked his knuckles, before he moved his hands down and took hold of the handles of his sai, now pulling the pronged weapons out and spun them around in his grasp before firmly gripping the handles, now snapping himself into his own fighting stance. Duke, meanwhile, also had set himself into his fighting stance and raised his hands up, ready to engage his opponent in what could potentially be a violent battle.

Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello looked to their hot-headed brother, hoping that he would pull through and secure another victory for them. Raphael had done the great feat of carrying them where they had failed in the battle against Team Fatal Fury, and he alone had turned the tide against what they had believed was certain defeat. It was this feat of strength, skill and defiance against overwhelming odds that had given the brothers faith in Raphael. It was because of him that they were able to come so far in this tournament.

“Kick his ass, Raph!” Michelangelo yelled out.

“You got this, dude!” Donatello hollered out.

Leonardo crossed his arms and nodded to his brother. Raphael, now having the support of his brothers, felt a sense of confidence and reassurance from them. He took in a deep breath of air through his nostrils as he allowed himself to relax as he readied himself for what could be a difficult battle.

“Sir, we’ll be approaching the destination with an ETA of ten minutes!” The pilot of the helicopter spoke out.

“Good. I was unfortunate to miss the first rounds of the match, but I’ll be on time for either the third or the last bout. In the meantime, I suppose I could let the others have their fun.” The man in the back spoke.

He had moved his hands down and took hold of the tablet which he often conducted business on, only to activate the device and he tapped on the screen to view the tournament matches through the KOF app. As soon as the screen flashed with a set of several windows depicting several live matches, he tapped on the window which show cased Duke, and… someone who appeared to be dressed in cosplay like a Turtle. Or so he had been led to believe that was the case anyway.

“They’ll let anyone in these damn tournaments these days. Ten minutes you said?”

“Yes sir!” The pilot answered.

“Perfect, this gives me a chance to see the next match in progress!” Geese smirked.

Geese Howard recalled when the tournament was exclusive to those who were deemed worthy and strong enough. At least that was how he had run it prior to his defeat at the hands of Terry Bogard. But since then, the tournament had changed many hands and allowed many different fighters as time went on. But now everyone had a gimmick. From J-Pop Idols with Kung-Fu and Psychic abilities to Martial Arts families who were trying to keep a dojo alive… It had only been a matter of time before a group of cosplayers were to join.

But it didn’t matter to him.

He had every intention to win the tournament, and Geese Howard always got what he wanted… And if he wasn’t given what he wanted, he would take it.

Better late than never, I suppose. The next match up involving my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles storyline is finally here and this one was perhaps a bit of a difficult one to write up as far as the recap goes but none the less, I was able to get it done just in time and here it is. I wanted to get this done by last week but I was unable to come up with the creative juices to churn something out, plus I also was dealing with a stomach flu but that's done and over with thankfully...

Writing out the recap between Michelangelo and Mr. Big definitely was a difficult one because I wanted to get across that initially, Michelangelo was going to have a bit of a rough patch with someone like Mr. Big but would definitely come out on top. I suppose the hardest thing was that it was a match between nunchaku and Escrima sticks. And while I could've referenced the fight between Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto in Lee's unfinished version of Game of Death, I was much too late in thinking about that and it didn't even so much as cross my mind until now. None the less, I hope I did well in depicting the match.

Now we have a match between who might arguably be the strongest Turtle, Raphael-- and the leader of the Mephistopheles gang from KOF: Maximum Impact, Duke. Originally, I was going to have added Wolfgang Krauser and have him be the third member of the group but I ultimately went with someone like Duke as he was someone who I felt was very under utilized by SNK and fit in more with the criminal archtype theme that Billy Cain and Mr. Big had going with them, where as Krauser tended to come off as someone who was essentially a superpowered wrestler that just happened to come from European nobility. There was also something of an interesting dynamic which I felt that putting Raphael against Duke had, so it definitely felt more organic than going with Krauser. Also, there is something of a stinger at the end which does lead to where and who the last match between the Turtles and the Boss team is going to be.

Hopefully, this match is an enjoyable one.

Remember-- ENVIRONMENT IS ALSO A FACTOR IN THIS BATTLE! Something I feel like people need to seriously consider.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

--

Raphael (Mirage) is Low Tier Superhuman in terms of physicals. Think Above Peak Human due to his mutation and training.

Raphael (Mirage) possesses his Twin Sai, Shurikens, Exploding Shurikens, Smoke Bombs, and Kunai.

Duke is in Peak Conditioning due to his training.

Duke has his moveset from the KOF: Maximum Impact series.

Had to look up this Duke fella since I’m a bit behind on KOF lore but from what I’ve gathered I think Raph takes him. It’ll be close but the ninja turtle pulls it out.

Duke is from KOF: Maximum Impact, a pretty cool spin-off series and non-canonical entry in the King of Fighters games. There were two games, and one updated version which came out later but other than that... Duke was a boss character in the first Maximum Impact game, who got later regulated to a normal player character in the sequel. Maximum Impact was... a weird entry and perhaps one of SNK's last games prior to becoming SNK Playmore in the early 2000s.

The plot of the Maximum Impact had something to do with a KOF tournament which was hosted by... an underground gang faction which also had ties with aliens.

Anyway, thanks for commenting!

I often wonder if and when SNK would bring back some of the Maximum Impact characters in the proper KOF games, like as a DLC team like they did Garou. Anyway, another great recap. Duke is a great pull from the MI series, as one of the stronger characters, but I think he will come up short against Raph.

You know... SNK really needs to either revive the Maximum Impact series or even bring the Maximum Impact characters to proper KOF canon. Especially the Meira Brothers. That's  storyline that's been left completely open.

Another great set-up, Rakai. Pretty interesting recap in that Michelangelo had an almost Battle Nexus-esque comeback to take Mr. Big down.

As for the match, after looking up Duke, he could be considered superhuman as well. Add that to his energy attacks, skill, and likelihood that he won't take Raphael lightly after seeing Donnie and Mikey in action, and Raph may be in for a pretty tough fight. Having beaten other top-tier SNK fighters, though, Raph should be able to pull through.

Leonardo's probably gonna have his hands full going up against Geese Howard, though.

It's good to see that the normal matches are picking up traction again now that the drafts are nearing their completion.

Yeah, I was inspired by that scene in the Battle Nexus but I also wanted to show that when push comes to shove, Mikey plows through and has a bit of a temper where he's a quiet storm.

And yeah... Next fight should be a doozy.
