Both ninja and samurai glared to one another as they clashed their blades, sparks erupting as the steel weapons made contact. Both combatants were tensing up the muscles within their arms, aiming to push the other back yet neither were relenting to the other’s will. Both pushed each other back, and allowed some distance to be created. Both ninja and samurai stared upon one another, sizing each other up— analyzing their posture to take in each other’s strengths and weaknesses in their defense. Again they had rushed to one another and clashed as both the ninja and the samurai slashed their blades across, as the shinobi immediately swung both his twin ninjaken horizontally across to the left, and the Ronin quickly moved his blade across to the right. As their blades cleaved through the air, whipping sounds were heard only to be interrupted by loud clanging as the swords collided once more with sparks erupting. Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo wanted on intently as this could perhaps be one of the most difficult battles which Leonardo had participated in— and this included the previous fights with both Terry Bogard and his protégé, Rock Howard. But they had been hoping that their brother would pull through against such a difficult opponent as Ronin whom he was seemingly engaged in battle with. Nakoruru, Galford and Jubei watched on with intrigue and interest at how Haohmaru perhaps may have finally found another worthy opponent to test his medal.

Leonardo quickly swung his left arm back across to the left, and then moved the ninjaken diagonally down to the right as he took aim for Haohmaru’s mid-section, before he then would move both his arms down and slash his twin steel blades down for the samurai’s shoulders. Haohmaru responded by positioning his blade out in front of himself, using it to deflect the strikes from the red masked Turtle, and then he positioned himself to maintain good and solid footing as he raised his arms and positioned Fugudoku overhead and set the weapon horizontally, blocking the downward strikes. He could feel the strength which was put behind the strikes, and he couldn’t help but grin at the prospect of perhaps seeing what this opponent’s potential could be like. In response to this, Haohmaru shifted with a step forward and thrust his blade as he took aim for Leonardo’s mid-section. The Turtle immediately side-stepped to this left and he swung his right leg across for Haohmaru’s mid-section in a quick roundhouse kick. Impact was firmly made as Leonardo’s foot struck across the samurai’s mid-section, causing Haohmaru to grunt but the samurai refused to buckle from the blow as he instead charged after the red masked Turtle.

Haohmaru quickly slashed his blade upward as he turned in a spin to meet his opponent, and the samurai performed this technique twice before he would lean down and move his arms down to bring his blade down for his opponent’s head. Leonardo was forced to step back as he swung both ninjaken across, blocking the slashes with his own as he moved them over from right to left, and when the overhead strike came. Leonardo crossed his blades and raised them, blocking the samurai’s sword. And the Turtle was forced to stumble back, as he felt the weight of Haohmaru’s weapon and the strength which the Ronin put behind it. This was enough to make Leonardo widen his eyes— this man was strong, perhaps stronger than Oroku Saki.

Haohmaru quickly rushed in for Leonardo, now taking aim for the mutant Red Ear Slider’s head as he then would swing Fugudoku across from left to right, and vice versa. Leonardo gripped the ninjaken within his right hand, now positioning it in a defensive manner to block the slashes from his opponent. He retaliated by aiming for his opponent’s mid-section, and he thrust the ninjaken within his left hand outward but widened his eyes as Haohmaru seemingly quickly and skillfully pulled his weapon back and used his katana to parry and divert the ninja’s blade to his left, and forced Leonardo to drag in towards him.

“I HAVE YOU, KAPPA!” The Ronin shouted.

Leonardo turned to face Haohmaru. The samurai raised his arms and he quickly swung his arms down, moving the blade diagonally down over to the Turtle’s right as he took aim for his mid-section. Leonardo moved his left arm diagonally up to the left, slashing his blade up to strike away at the incoming weapon. Metal clashed, sparks erupted and Leonardo was forced to drop onto his right side from the sheer weight and the power behind the blade. Haohmaru leapt and positioned his blade down as he then thrust it for the Turtle’s chest, but Leonardo rolled to his right and managed to evade the coming downward stab only to watch as the Ronin hit nothing but concrete.

Quickly rising to his feet, Leonardo released a yell from within as he charged in at the samurai. The red masked ninja then spin the ninjaken handles within his grasp, shifting the blades in a figure eight motion and parted his blades, slashing them horizontally in a scissors motion as he intended to strike at Haohmaru’s mid-section. However, Leonardo didn’t stop there as he then leaned forward with his weight and slashed both his twin ninjaken down. Haohmaru shifted back in his movements, thrusting his blade in an attempt to intimidate and deflect Leonardo’s initial strikes, but he side-stepped to his right and rushed in at Leonardo. Thrusting his left knee, Haohmaru impacted the Turtle’s mid-section, and turned to meet his opponent’s back only to then thrust his hands down, slamming the blunt end of Fugudoku against the back of Leonardo’s head before he would then snap his right leg out, planting his foot onto the mutant Red Ear Slider’s shell and kicking him forward. Leonardo stumbled forward again, and he fought to regain his footing only to stop himself in his movements.

“DAMN IT!!” Leonardo shouted.

Haomaru focused on channeling the energy within himself, and directed it to flow through his entire body. As he felt this energy coursing through himself, he then willed it to flow through his arms and hands only to imbue his katana with this very flow of energy and took aim at the red masked ninja. He swung his blade across, and the energy manifested in the form of a glowing orange cyclone. The cyclone moved quickly towards the Ronin’s opponent. Leonardo had widened his eyes, never having seen such a technique like that and already he had seen his share of wild powers and abilities in this tournament.

“SENPUU RETSU ZAN!” Haohmaru shouted.

Leonardo quickly found himself taken in by the cyclone and there was a moment of experiencing weightlessness. He looked to his feet, now seeing himself being levitated off from the ground and the red masked mutant Turtle found himself spinning in the air as he was carried at least ten feet. Suddenly the cyclone seemingly dissipated and gravity pulled him down only for Leonardo to drop flat onto his carapace. He grunted in immediate discomfort and now writhed in momentary pain as he now looked ahead to see the Ronin rushing right in towards him. Leonardo then curled himself to roll backwards onto his feet and he quickly bolted up to his full stature. He immediately rushed in towards the charging swordsman, and Leonardo quickly then slashed the ninjaken in his left hand across to the right as he took aim for Hoahmaru’s neck, but the samurai instead parried the strike with Fugudoku. Leonardo then slashed his ninjaken in his right over to the left, again aiming for the same area and Haohmaru merely responded by moved his blade to intercept the Turtle’s again. However, Leonardo then tensed up his leg muscles and he pushed himself upwards, only to then vault his right knee up—firmly striking it into Haohmaru’s chin, causing the samurai to stagger and lose his balance. Leonardo didn’t even so much as hesitate to follow up by rushing in after Haohmaru and the Turtle quickly then had turned with his weight as he then thrust his right arm outward, firmly slamming in his knuckles directly into the Ronin’s face, hitting Haohmaru square in the nose which only added to the daze which the Japanese swordsman was experiencing. Leonardo then turned and he swung his left elbow across, striking Haohmaru harshly across his head and the samurai grunted in expression of his discomfort.

Leonardo then quickly rushed in towards his opponent, and he turned to a spin only to then quickly bring his left leg in a crescent kick, firmly hitting the side of his foot against Haohmaru’s face and the ninja quickly pushed himself up only to bring his right leg across and again firmly struck the samurai in the head. Still turning in a fluid motion to spin yet again, Leonardo then arced his left leg diagonally up for a roundhouse kick, and again he firmly struck Haohmaru hard across his face again.

The samurai stepped back, pressing against the front of a parked vehicle and his ears were filled with the sounds of the crowd cheering and he could feel a few hands on his person, patting him down and he looked upon the excited faces of the spectators with mild confusion. It seemed as if viewers of battles had a very hands on approach when cheering warriors. None the less, Haohmaru rushed in ahead and he quickly leaned forward only to snap his left leg out in a front kick. Leonardo crossed his arms out in front of himself, taking the blow directly in his forearms. However, Haohmaru then released his right hand from the handle of his katana only to take hold of the rope harness to his wine flash, and then swung the object across.

Leonardo was firmly struck across his head and he felt a wash of discomfort and pain now entering his head. He had no idea that the samurai was willing to use something as unassuming as a wine flask to strike him with. However, the red masked ninja then had widened his eyes as Haohmaru spun his blade, and now swung upwards only to then take to the air with a leap and then swing his blade once more again.

“KOGETSU ZAN!”

The Turtle crossed his ninjaken in front of himself, sparks erupting as the steel blades met once more but the blows were more than enough to test the mutant Red Ear Slider’s defenses. Leonardo tensed up the muscles within his arms, now working to resist the strength of the samurai and he managed to barely hold together. However, the samurai came down and he moved his blade for a powerful downward slash. Leonardo quickly took a dive to his right and he hit the ground onto his side as Haohmaru’s blade struck nothing but concrete.

Quickly, Leonardo then moved his arms up and slipped his ninjaken back into the sheath which they belonged in only to clench his hands firmly into fists. Haohmaru raised a brow as he then once more charged in at the Turtle with his blade positioned down. However, Leonardo moved his hands down to his utility belt and took a hold of three shurikens within each hand, before he would throw them in quick succession at the Ronin— releasing six shurikens. This caused Haohmaru to stop as he then swung Fukudoku over from right to left, deflecting the incoming blades away from him and in some cases, even slicing a couple of shurikens in two. Haohmaru resumed his charge, as Leonardo raised his right arm to grab one of his ninjaken and drew the weapon out.

The Ronin then quickly thrust his blade forward for a stabbing motion as he took aim for the Turtle’s mid-section, but Leonardo moved his ninjaken across to the left, forcing Haohmaru to over extend. Swiftly side-stepping and turning to meet his opponent’s back, Leonardo took aim for the back of the samurai’s head and swung the sword to the left but Haohmaru turned and positioned his weapon in front to block the Turtle’s sword. Haohmaru then moved his sword in a downward crescent slash as he aimed to go for Leonardo’s legs, but the Turtle responded with a counter slash and blocked the samurai’s katana. Quickly, both samurai and ninja then raised their arms and slashed horizontally overhead, trying to get past through each other’s defenses yet neither were able to overpower one another. Quickly thinking, Haohmaru then delivered a swift roundhouse to the red masked Turtle’s knees from his right leg, and Leonardo winced from the blow as he buckled.

Clenching his right fist, Haohmaru then turned with his weight as he then delivered a swift straight punch for Leonardo’s head, striking the red masked ninja quite hard onto the middle of his face. The Turtle stumbled back and Haohmaru shifted with a step forward only to then spin his katana down and thrust it into the concrete before he quickly moved his arms out and took hold of the Turtle’s wrist on his right arm, now turning with his weight and tossing Leonardo onto the concrete. Grabbing Fugudoku, Haohmaru then pounced forward, directing his energy to his sword and then delivered an overheard slash, his blade emanating an orange glow of energy as the sword came for Leonardo. The Turtle gripped his ninjaken, raising the weapon horizontally above and he buckled back as Haohmaru’s heavy blade delivered a mighty powerful blow.

“OUGI RESSHIN ZAN!”

Leonardo took in a deep breath of air as he now stepped forward and ran in towards his opponent. Without any hesitation, the red masked Turtle quickly then had gripped his ninjaken in both hands firmly and he slashed his sword horizontally over from left to right, and the inverse as a means to attack at Haohmaru. The samurai retaliated by moving his own blade, deflecting Leonardo’s slashes quickly. The Turtle then had snapped his right leg in a side kick for the Ronin’s chin, and impact was made. Leonardo then swung his right leg across and smacked his foot firmly onto Haohmaru’s head, causing the samurai to stumble for a bit.

The Turtle then rushed ahead and he pushed himself with his feet, now taking to the air only to then throw his weight forward and down, performing an aerial somersault. However, as he did so—Leonardo gripped his ninjaken in his grasp, slashing the blade downward— effectively becoming a spinning pendulum.

Haohmaru widened his eyes and he positioned Fugudoku overhead and blocked the Turtle’s unorthodox attack. As Leonardo landed behind the Ronin, Haohmaru turned and he quickly then swung his sword down and then back up. The mutant Red Ear Slider positioned his blade defensively overhead and down, working to block at Haohmaru’s strikes. Both were relentless in their slashes, both relentless in keeping their defenses up. Steel clashed, sparks erupted. Leonardo and Haohmaru were pressing one another to their limits— the ninja wanting to break his own self-doubt, and the samurai merely wishing to test his medal against such an unusual opponent.

Haohmaru then felt his energy bursting and directed it to flow through his entire body and channeled it through his arms and his hands, moving the current through the handle of Fugudoku and into the blade itself. The samurai then  leaned forward as he raised his blade, slashing it down diagonally to his left as he aimed to strike at Leonardo’s mid-section as the blade now was enveloped in blue flame-like energy. Leonardo widened his eyes as he was now bearing witness to one of Haohmaru’s most powerful techniques.

The Flame of the Conqueror.

Leonardo firmly gripped his ninjaken and he slashed his own blade upward to meet with Haohmaru’s.

Steel collided with one another and both could feel the strength behind their strikes reverberate through their respective swords as they tensed up the muscles within themselves. However, Leonardo gasped as he watched as Haohmaru’s sword broke through his ninjaken and the red masked ninja was forced to drop back. Breathing heavily from the battle, Haohmaru grinned as he then postured his blade for the final stroke.

“This match has been decided! I am the victor!” Haohmaru spoke.

Leonardo then instinctively moved his right hand down to his utility belt and firmly took hold of the ringed handle of another weapon, now drawing it out as Haohmaru slashed Fugudoku downward. Positioning the kunai horizontally, Leonardo managed to block the weapon much to Haohmaru’s surprise and displeasure.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself just yet!” Leonardo grinned.

With a quick thrust from his left hand, the Turtle jabbed his fingers firmly into Haohmaru’s throat—and the samurai gagged as he felt something firmly pressing into his trachea and he violently coughed out. Quickly, Leonardo spun the kunai within his grasp and trust it forward, batting the ringed handle firmly into the Ronin’s nose. Haohmaru, stunned from the blow, couldn’t help but close his eyes. Seizing the opportunity, Leonardo slipped his kunai to his utility belt and then took hold of Haohmaru’s wrist within his grasp— only to lean forward and slam the Ronin onto the concrete flat on his back.  If he was going to be finishing this… It had to be now.

Leonardo moved his left arm back and took hold of the handle of his remaining sword, drawing the weapon out. As he did so, he spun the weapon within his hand and rushed right in towards the samurai quickly, only to then raise his left leg up and stomped it down onto Haohmaru’s right foot.

The samurai grunted in discomfort as he raised his blade overhead, but Leonardo then twirled his sword and gripepd in reverse, now thrusting the handle directly up into Haohmaru’s chin, causing the samurai to jerk his head back in reaction. The samurai, fighting to regain his senses then leaned forward to snap his right leg out in a front kick for Leonardo’s mid-section, but the Turtle immediately side-stepped over to the left. It was at this moment that the ninja then turned his blade with the flat side facing the samurai and he swung his blade across to the left, striking Hoahmaru along his mid-section, and the samurai buckled with a gasp as Leonardo gave him a firm whack.

Quickly turning in a spin while in fluid motion, Leonardo then turned his weapon for the edge to face forward. He swung his arms across and slashed the ninjaken as he took aim for the back of the Ronin’s neck.

Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael widened their eyes. Nakoruru gasped, Galford just gulped whatever saliva was in his throat and Jubei grunted as he furrowed his brows at the sight of the outcome of this match.

Haohmaru went still and he closed his eyes as he nodded his head. He could feel the edge of the Turtle’s blade pressing against his skin. It had been a decisive battle, one which had pushed at his limit’s as well as his opponent’s and it was all which he could ask for himself and of Leonardo. But he knew when he had been defeated.

“I concede this match! Well fought!” He said with a hearty laugh.

Donatello threw his hands up, Michelangelo pumped his fist with a cheerful yell and Raphael nodded as he folded his arms while forming something of a satisfied smirk on his face. Their brother had fought one of the most grueling battles which he had ever involved himself in the tournament and it was a good confidence builder for Leonardo, especially after still being haunted from the loss to Terry Bogard and the draw with Rock Howard. After fighting his doppleganger, who carried the same strengths and weaknesses, as well as doubts as he had— Leonardo managed to break through and defeat an incredibly strong opponent. The ninja looked over to Haohmaru and gave a thankful nod before he stepped forth and made his way to his brothers. Haohmaru, satisfied with the outcome, now had new motivation to train and become a swordsman. The samurai stepped forward and now made his way to the others.

As Leonardo made his way back to his siblings, the ninja then nodded his head to them. The Turtles looked over to the other team, who were already discussing as to who would be going next. The Turtles would have to deliberate on this as well. Leonardo motioned his hands to his brothers, gesturing for them to gather. All four set each other’s arms around each’s carapace and huddled together.

“Alright, there’s a pretty good chance we’re in for a hard fight. But we’ve got to keep the pressure going here. I managed to secure us a win— not an easy one by any means. So we’ve got to bring our A-game here.” Leonardo spoke.

“If I didn’t know any better, it seems like as if these guys are the real deal here! I mean… who would’ve thought that we’re going up against actual samurai here.” Donatello whispered.

“So, who’s going next?” Raphael asked.

There was silence coming from the four brothers as they looked to one another and Raphael moved his head up to see what was going on with the other team. They were gathered around as well, and seeing how they were discussing on who to go next, well… he could only figure out on what they were saying. He took immediate notice when the blonde haired man with the dog now stepped forward. Raphael hunched back down and stared to his siblings.

“Guess they made their pick!”

“You know Raph, you’ve been getting a lot of the early fights… Sit this one out. I’m gonna go next.” Michelangelo stated.

The two red masked brothers stared to one another and Raphael gave a firm pat on the back of Michelangelo’s shell. Donatello nodded to his younger brother, and gave him thumbs up for good luck. Leonardo looked to his youngest sibling and smiled to him out of good faith.

The red masked wily Turtle now looked ahead over to the man who might be his next opponent and stepped forth from the huddled group. He rolled his shoulders forward and placed his hands together, bending them back only to crack his knuckles and he turned his head from side to side, popping the bones in his neck to undo whatever stiffness which he seemed to be momentarily experiencing. Both Michelangelo and Galford stopped about eight feet from one another and now began to size each other up. However, Michelangelo noticed that the dog seemed to be by the other ninja’s side.

“…Boy or girl?”

“Uuuuuh… Poppy’s a girl”

“She bite?”

“She’s a pretty good judge of character. She won’t bite unless you’re like… evil or something. But she won’t attack unless I tell her to, but you don’t worry about her having to bite. Unless I tell her to.” Galford grinned.

“Peachy… Mm’kay… Shall we get started?” Michelangelo asked as he moved his hands down, drawing his nunchucks. Quickly, the Turtle then twirled his weapons and he set himself to his fighting stance.

Galford moved his right hand up to his right shoulder, now taking hold of the handle of his own weapon but not drawing it out as of yet. Poppy remained on the sidelines.

Both ninja stared to one another before charging ahead—the second match between the Turtles and Team Samurai Spirits now commenced.

Alright, so the next match between the Mirage Turtles and Team Samurai Spirits has finally been posted up. Writing out the recap between Leonardo and Haohmaru was something both easy and challenge in of itself as I wanted to convey a sense of intensity between the two while showcasing their level of skill. Originally, I wanted that fight to be extremely bloody as we're talking about two swordsman who are going at it with everything and I felt that would've been far more intense, but I remembered that this is a tournament setting and KOF is not about the blood shedding-- that's more of a Mortal Kombat thing. So instead, I worked to keep this all about a display of skill and tenacity and I think that did a good enough job of that.

I also had an idea between where the next match would've gone, it was either going to be Donatello against Jubei, or Donatello against Galford, or Michelangelo against Galford or Michelangelo against Jubei. I feel like both Michelangelo and Donatello have fought too many opponents who happened to be women (women can be capable fighters just as men if not more so), so I figure that I change that up a bit here. So I opted to go with Galford and Michelangelo.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

Michelangelo is Low Tier Superhuman in terms of physicals. Think Above Peak Human due to his mutation and training.

Michelangelo possesses his Twin Nunchaku, Shurikens, Smoke Bombs, and Kunai.

Galford D. Weller at Peak Human Conditioning due to his training.

Galford D. Weller possesses his ninjaken.

Galford D. Weller has his moveset from the Samurai Shodown games.

Another great set up Rakai! I really enjoyed the recap!

Oh wow, I feel like Mickie could pull off a win but dang it'll be a close one in my opinion

Glad to know that you enjoyed the recap, it was one which was... a bit challenging to write up without going into full Mortal Kombat territory since as KOF is relatively toned down from that particular franchise, and isn't really known for the gore factor there. Samurai Shodown is a franchsie which has blood in it, but as far as I know, only Samurai Shodown V has things like Fatalities and they're still not as gory as Mortal Kombat.

And that's one for Michelangelo, care to share why he could take this?

This one could go either way. I'm leaning toward Galford.

That's one for Galford... Care to share why he takes this? Keep in mind, a lot of the Turtles experiences are shared together. So whatever Leo, Don and Raphael went through-- Michelangelo went through with them as well.

Another great set-up, Rakai. The recap for Leo and Haohmaru was pretty intense even as this arc's recaps have gone, even without, as you mentioned, the potential bloodshed a swordfight could bring. I guess both fighters' competitive natures as both swordsmen and warriors really came through in this fight, and maybe even the ninja vs. samurai dynamic also helped fuel things.

As for the match? I dunno yet. I mean, Galford has learned potent ninjustu chi techniques, but Mikey's likely been training in ninjustu for longer.

Have to think about this one.

Think quickly about this one on account that this one ends on Friday earlier than usual as I posted this match around 10:20 AM.

I’ll bet on Mikey. His bros and him have much greater experience, training, and Galford’s abilities have never really impressed me.

You know what? I think I'll give this one to Michelangelo due to having more training and maybe experience in ninjustu, but I think it's still gonna be damn tough.

These Samurai Shodown characters are seemingly proving to be tough match-ups on paper for the Turtles so far.

Yeah, I felt like I needed to make up for the mirror matches which admittedly were seen as predictable. So the Samurai Shodown characters in my opinion were a step in the right direction.

And today is the last day to decide who wins. I'm thinking the results will be called at around 12-ish this afternoon.
