Like Megatron isn't going to deceive the Earthlings into accepting the Decipticons as saviors from the martians before turning on them.

The Decepticons are willing to negotiate with humanity from a position of strength and that gives them an edge here. Plus any Martian vehicle tech is prime for scanning and taking as their own.

Haven't read this, but shouldn't Soundwave be able to pretty much solo this (ok maybe not entirely , but with the full support and resources of all Decepticons behind him...)?

It required Soundwave and Blaster to break through a bubble shield. Otherwise, Decepticons are fucked.

I feel that some combination of Trypticon and Bruticus can take care of it the old fashioned way. Plus Shockwave figuring out their weakness is only logical.

In the cards, they had dozens of giant bugs on their side. So, that might be an obstacle. But in the movie, they still relied on cartoon logic even more than the giant robots. They survived a nuclear bomb. Plus, Shockwave doesn't seem to do well on large scale assaults given he died off screen in the animated movie.

They got their asses handed to them by a Judd Nelson bot and a veteran autobot who crushed one of their hands, safe to assume the Martians can have their giant bugs overwhelm their numbers.

Well there was that time when the G1 Insecticons manipulated weather to enhance themselves (never could figure out what that was all about). Kup and Hot Rod got inside Autobot city because the Insecticons were eating the walls. And then Prime Insecticons were monsters that Megatron himself had to give it his all to beat just one.

I’m going with the Decepticons mostly because I believe they have the firepower to break through the Martians shields. Most of the main G1 Transformers Attack Potency are much higher then nuclear weapons.

If the Martians have a counter attack for nuclear bombs, they're likely to have one for giant robots..

Which they never used again evidently. There's still the variety of bugs like ants and I think spiders were involved too.
