Ripley is a traumatized individual who wakes up night after night suffering from nightmares. That's cannon - opening of Aliens lays it out.

The Overlook hotel is gonna be on Ellen Ripley like Tallahassee on a twinkie.

Not necessarily. Did you see "Doctor Sleep"? The Overlook works just as quickly as it wants to - which could be the moment you walk in the door.

I could see this going either way. On one hand, I'd argue that the Torrence family were there for a while before everything started going down hill and the hotel went insane. On the other, Ripley is someone that is haunted. While she is a survivor, she has tangled with more tangible beings that can bleed. The Hotel is something else entirely, and as pointed out above, could definitely go after those nightmares that she is plagued with

If you haven't had the opportunity to see Doctor Sleep, give it a look.  It's about the grown up Danny Torrence.  The Director's Cut is the version of the film most worth watching.

Anyways, Doctor Sleep shows that there is nothing requiring things at the Overlook to take awhile. It can happen quite quickly, with immediate and violent consequences.
