This seems like something Xanatos would try to do with Goliath. Barbossa doesn't strike me as the type to try to trick people, and while he could just kidnap Belle and wait until the rose loses its petals, I think Xanatos would play it smarter and be more successful because of it

While I agree that Xanatos is the smarter man and can fake his way out of a situation, I feel like Barbossa can intimidate Belle out of breaking the curse. Again sure Xanatos is a smart guy and can make a plan to keep her from trying to break the cure, Barbossa is more physically intimidating, especially around the time when he himself had been cursed into turning into an undead skeleton when the moonlight hits him and is more than willing to get his hands dirty, even if it means maiming Belle.
