While Spongebob does have a lucky X-Factor which cannot be discounted, Speedy Gonzales' ability to physically outmaneuver the insects would seem to be the greater advantage.

I think Spingebob has a couple of advantages:

- he’s impervious to most pain, so the stinging isn’t going to be as much of an issue.

 

-speedy is fast but small. Surely he’s going to struggle to corral flying insects, Spongebob could conceivably physically handle a lot more of them, and have a bigger reach to actually go after the insects.
