I'm pretty sure Hobbits are landlocked, aren't they? They wouldn't have much use for a fishy sea God

Hobbits have always being depicted as good alignment beings. I find it hard to see them follow a clearly cruel and evil deity.  Poseidon is also kind of a selfish prick but a better choice in this case.

Poseidon does also represent bounty of the sea, I think.  Could be a thing for a people who like to eat.

Selfish doesn't even begin to describe the man who sank Atlantis simply because people began to act as corrupt and selfish as he was. Imagine that huh?

Anyway, Echinda might be more up Sauron's alley, than the Shire's, so in that you're right Vincento, as Poseidon would be the marginally lesser of two evils here.

I'd say the same. Poseidon has shown a kind side plenty of times in different works of fiction. He's not evil unlike Echinda, which means to me that he'd win here.
