I actually think EDI is uniquely great at this challenge. This is central to the themes of Mass Effect. The Reapers were basically a more extreme version of the Thanos Paradox, coming in to stop civilization from getting too advanced and destructive, and EDI is both thematically and narratively one of the most important characters showing how Synthesis and hard work can bring the universe together into a more peaceful whole

ARIA methods are unfortunately too heavy handed and lacking in the “human” touch to be effective. Any solution she could come up with will be doomed to fail because she’s unable or unwilling to consider human emotions or morality as part of the equation and her ruthless, cold personality will only further turn the organics against her. She could of course try to force the other life forms to accept her demands but that would cause them to violently resist her, causing even more pain and death then before, making the Thanos paradox even worse.

EDI on the other hand has shown a bit more knowledge and understanding of organics and their viewpoints, allowing her to factor them into her problem solving capabilities and organize them in a way that will make them more appealing to the organic mindset and have them follow her directives of their own free will.

Basically EDI has almost a similar amount of problem solving capabilities as ARIA but with the emotional understanding to convince the universe to accept her ideas. Case in point, in Killer Instinct ARIA is an antagonist who the main characters are actively fighting against wheres in Mass Effect EDI is a staunch ally whose ideas and viewpoints are often responded to positively by the diverse cast of characters.
