I give this to Quetzalcoatl. According to this website, he "never offered human victims, only snakes, birds, and butterflies," meaning at least one group's interpretation of him didn't require sacrifice, and he would be much more palatable to the Hobbits that way. He's the "god of the sun and wind, air, and learning," which 3 of 4 are things Hobbits really like, if memory serves. Hermes, as the psychopomp and messenger of the Gods, really doesn't offer much for the Hobbits

Hobbits, apart from the few exceptions, dislike travelling. Hermes is essentially a god of travellers and messengers, can't see that appealing to Hobbits. Unfortunate draw.
