Can insects smell or at least cartoon insects? Because if they can, I am going with Pepe. I foresee Captain Caveman just destroying everything in sight, yet the insects still running amok.

I assume these are bees, cause that's what the insect in the picture is? In which case bees can smell exceptionally well, only if it's a specific flower or toxin in the air. I don't think they would care about anything that smells bad.

Don't forget this is Pepe LePew we're talking about.  I remember a bit from a cartoon where he snuck into a movie theater, and the characters on the SCREEN ran off in terror from his smell.  So if his stench is so bad that toon force rules apply, all he has to do is walk in the room, and every bug will flee (so to speak).  All you'll get with Caveman is a smashed up house as he chases bugs around.

In almost every cartoon a skunks smell is the single greatest chemical weapon imaginable. So with that in mind I’ll cast my vote for Pepe.
