Chapter 8: Clash of the Captains

With a sorrowful gaze, the Cyborg pirate looked upon the distressed face of Jim Hawkins. He could see the hurt and pain in his young friend's eyes. Jim's heart sank as he felt betrayed that the man he came to see as a mentor was actually the Cyborg that he was warned about. Standing over the defeated Rourke, Silver lowered his weapons and tried to plead with his young friend. The commotion of battle between the pirates and the mercenaries distracted the young Hawkins. While Silver's crew continued their battle against Commander Rourke's team of ruthless mercenaries, Jim used the opportunity to create a distraction. The young cabin boy was able to grab the map that led to Captain Flint's trove. Hawkins along with Captain Amelia and Dr. Doppler were able to push their way across the battlefield. The little pink blob of space goo, Morph, followed close to Jim as Captain Amelia ordered for them to head down to a lifeboat.

Silver's eye widened and his mouth dropped once he realized that Hawkins had taken the map. His cybernetic arm transformed into a cannon and he aimed it at the direction of the fleeing cabin boy. In that moment, a cold chill ran down Silver's spine as his body froze. He stumbled back and realized that he could not take the shot. Silver then saw one of Rourke's large mercenaries running towards Jim and the escaping crew. Silver quickly aimed his cybernetic arm at the mercenary and unleashed a powerful blast. The pinpoint blast hit the mercenary square in the chest which knocked him in front of Hawkins and Morph. Before Jim escaped down toward the lower levels of the ship, he looked over the smoke rising from the blast wound from the mercenary. He quickly glanced back and saw Silver standing with his arm aiming at their direction. His eyes widened as he saw the image of Silver in the distance before the young cabin boy leaped down into the lower sections of the ship.

Despite being wounded, the fearsome Captain of the R.L.S. Legacy moved with a fierce energy. While jumping into the lifeboat, Morph had taken the map that the dying Billy Bones had handed off to Jim Hawkins that stormy night at the Benbow Inn. Jim jumped back and chased after Morph while yelling at him to give back the map. Amelia and Doppler worked on getting the lifeboat secure and ready for deployment. As Jim chased after the floating pink blob of space goo, he heard a squeaking sound from above. Standing above him, Jim saw the outline of a woman with a gun. The woman aimed her gun at Jim's head and looked at him with a piercing glare. Morph froze in midair and dropped the map. Without a second thought, Jim reached out and caught the sphere before it could hit the ground. Before he could turn his attention back to the woman, Helga Sinclair had jumped down from the above platform. She landed in front of Hawkins but immediately aimed her pistol at him once again.

"Move!" Helga ordered while gesturing for Jim to head toward the location of the lifeboat. "Keep your hands where I can see them!" She hissed while staring down the young man.

Jim quickly looked over at Morph and then looked back at the blonde female mercenary. He knew that she must have barely escaped the chaotic battle between the pirates and her mercenary comrades. Jim sighed and slowly starting backing up. He steadily turned around to make his way to the lifeboat. His eyes surveyed his surroundings but he knew one wrong move could mean a fatal blast to the back of his head. As he approached the lifeboat, Jim could hear Amelia barking out orders to Dr. Doppler. The captain of the R.L.S. Legacy then turned her attention to the approaching Jim Hawkins. Before she could mutter out a word, she could see the disturbed look that he had on his face. Amelia's eyes then shifted to the female mercenary that he had gun aimed at the back of Hawkins' head.

"Hello, Captain!" Helga smirked. "Room for 2 more?"

Before Amelia could respond, Helga unleashed a powerful kick to the back of Jim's upper back. Hawkins fell forward into the lifeboat while Dr. Doppler jumped down to check on his young friend.

"No hard feelings, but you are my ride out of here!" Helga exclaimed before jumping down in the lifeboat.

The sound of approaching pirates echoed through the lower levels of the ship. Amelia sighed while releasing the latch that held lifeboat in place. "Very well, then!" She growled under her breath as she pushed Hawkins over to towards the lifeboat's controls. "Get us out of here, Mr. Hawkins!" Captain Amelia commanded as she sat back gripping her wounded arm tight. The lifeboat broke loose and started moving away from the R.L.S. Legacy.

"WHAT'D YA STANDIN' 'ROUND FOR?! GET THEM!" John Silver screamed as he appeared in the lower level of the ship.

Silver snatched one of his pirate minions and tossed him toward the escaping lifeboat. The poor alien pirate fell short of the lifeboat and was ripped into the endless abyss of space. Silver grunted while watching the lifeboat descending down upon the strange planet that held the resources that both the New Republic and Cobra sought after. One of the greedy pirate's jumped onto the Legacy's cannons and started aiming at the escaping lifeboat.

"THE BOY STILL HAS THE MAP YA FOOL!" Silver cried out as he pushed himself against the cannon. A blast rang out from the terrifying cannon and headed toward the lifeboat.

Silver watched in horror as the blast damaged part of the lifeboat. The small craft swirled around aimlessly as it fell out of view into the planet's atmosphere.  Concern and uneasiness fell over the hardened pirate captain after watching Jim's lifeboat disappear into the clouds below. Silver sighed while rubbing the back of his head. With the corner of his eyes, he saw Mr. Scroop and the rest of his wicked crew members approaching. Silver shook his head and cleared his throat.

"GET TO YOUR STATIONS, BOYS! WE HAVE A MAP TO FIND!" Silver roared while shooting a powerful glare upon his crew.

Upon the Jolly Roger,

A gentle breeze from the surrounding ocean pushed against the wicked cheeks of Captain Hook as he watched a small vessel descending from the skies above. His mouth formed a sinister smile while glaring at the ship breaking through the fluffy clouds that covered the world around. The grueling dark eyes of the ruthless captain widen as he twirled his long dark mustache with his fingers. With a chuckle, the Captain of the Jolly Roger stumbled back while gazing up at the skies above. His eyes slowly dropped as his attention turned to his crew. Hook then turned his attention to his most trusted ally, Mr. Smee. Captain Hook's boatswain jumped back and glanced at his captain. A large grin formed across the chubby cheeks of Mr. Smee while he started adjusting the glass that covered his eyes. Captain Hook took a deep breath while reaching down for his sword's hilt. The pirate captain quickly drew his sword and pointed it high up at the sky. He aimed his sword at the descending lifeboat.

"Turn the sails north!" Captain Hook exclaimed with that same sinister smile. "We have unwelcome guests!"

The Jolly Roger started moving along with the powerful tide. With the ship heading in the direction of the falling lifeboat, the crew of the Jolly Roger did all that they could to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. Captain Hook put his sword back in its sheath while sauntering to the ship's bow. While watching his prized ship moving along the sea, Hook felt a trembling in his spine. He could hear the faint ticking sound that followed him wherever he went. Within the ocean, he could see the outline of the creature that plagued his very nightmares. Hook gulped while staggering back from the ship's bow. He thought about crying out to Mr. Smee but his eyes looked over his crew. The ruthless pirate captain gulped while regaining his composure. With a sigh, he sauntered back to the captain's quarters as the ocean's breeze whistled in his ears. Captain Hook walked around his chair and reached down for his flintlock blaster. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath.

"Cap.. Captain!" Mr. Smee yelled as he ran into the Captain's quarters.

"What is it, Mr. Smee?" Captain Hook growled while slowly opening his eyes.

"We're close, Captain!" Mr. Smee announced with a childish grin.

The Captain of the Jolly Roger emerged from his quarters. Rays from the sun shined down upon the skin of Captain Hook while he reached for his bright red coat. He put on his long red coat and made his to the ship's rail. Hook gazed down upon the lifeboat that had fell from the sky. While looking down upon the small vessel's occupants, a large smile formed under Hook's long mustache. His pearly white teeth shined against the rays of the sun as his dark eyes scoped out the poor lifeforms in the lifeboat.

"Well, what do we have here?" Captain Hook asked sarcastically.

"Looks like a... some trespassers, Captain!" Mr. Smee spit out.

"Mr. Smee, don't be so harsh. They are now our guests." Captain Hook chuckled. "Get on board."

Captain Amelia, Dr. Doppler, Jim Hawkins and Helga Sinclair slowly climbed up to the deck of the Jolly Roger. Helga scoped out the crew and thought about drawing her pistol. Before the thought of reaching for her pistol could cross her mind, she felt Hook's warm breath beating down against the back of her neck.

"I would not even think about it, my dear." Captain Hook hissed while rubbing his hook across her back. "Give up the piece."

Helga rolled her eyes and reached down for her pistol. She slowly lifted out of the holster and held it up while Mr. Smee snatched it out of her hands. Hook twirled his long dark mustache while circling around the former crew of the R.L.S. Legacy.

"So, what brings you to this place?" Hook asked while putting out his arms.

"We do not have to answer to filthy pirates!" Amelia spit out defiantly.

"Hmm... Judging by your uniform, I'd say that you are with the New Republic Navy!" Hook growled. "But not all of you look to be New Republic."

Hook stood in front of Helga Sinclair and looked over her. "You are certainly not with the New Republic."

Helga rolled her eyes while looking around at the rest of crew.

"Did they tell you about us?" Hook asked with a smirk.

"Did they tell me what?" Helga sighed.

"Did Cobra tell you that they had sent another crew here for their precious resources?" Hook asked.

"What?" Helga asked with widened eyes.

"I can see it in your eyes. You're a mercenary." Hook sighed. "Ran into a little trouble, haven't you?"

"Listen, we were attacked by pirates." Helga replied before letting out a deep breath. "Well, another group of pirates. These morons have a map to a treasure."

"Oh, I like you!" Hook grinned. "Selling out others to save your own skin!"

Amelia gave a piercing glare at the blonde mercenary. Helga smiled while glancing at the captain of the R.L.S. Legacy. "It's nothing personal... I am a survivor. It's what I do."

"I see..." Hook hissed.

Hook glanced at the side of the ship. He took a deep breath into his nose while smiling at the rest of his crew.

"What is this map?" Hook asked.

"It leads to Flint's trove." Helga smiled.

"Now that is a treasure of a million lifetimes!" Hook exclaimed.

Captain Hook nodded at Mr. Smee while glancing back at Helga Sinclair. "Unfortunately, we have a bit too many people on this ship of ours." Hook said while looking over his crew.

"That is unfortunate." Helga grinned. "I believe the captain here should be the first to go." She growled while pointing back at Amelia.

"That is not who I was thinking of." Captain Hook responded while glaring at Helga.

Helga's eyes widened while her skin went cold. "Wait, what?!" She exclaimed as the crew started to circle around her.

"Do you hear it?" Captain Hook asked.

"Hear what?" Helga growled.

"The ticking..." Hook replied with a grim smile. "The awful ticking will be the last thing that you will ever hear."

Before she could respond, Captain Hook's crew grabbed a hold of the blonde mercenary. She struggled and squirmed as she tried to break free from their grasp. Hook looked over Jim and the others while his crew threw Helga over the side of the Jolly Roger. Captain Hook smiled after hearing the water splash and then shook his head.

"Now, what about this map?" Captain Hook asked while staring down at Jim Hawkins.

"She was lying!" Jim exclaimed while glaring up into Hook's dark eyes.

Hook rubbed his hook across Jim's throat and then grabbed him by the collar.

"Don't play with me, boy! Where is the map?!" Hook roared while glaring into the eyes of Jim Hawkins.

Suddenly, the R.L.S. Legacy appeared out of the sky. Pirates descended upon the ship while the crew of the Jolly Roger armed themselves to fight back against their attackers. Hook then heard a crashing sound from behind and turned his head to see the outline of a large figure from behind.

With a smirk, Captain Hook said, "Ah, why isn't it Captain John Silver?"

"Captain James Hook!" Silver yelled while his cybernetic arm formed into a large blade.

"What do I owe the pleasure?" Hook asked while circling around the cybernetic Pirate Captain.

"Leave the boy alone!" Silver growled.

Hook chuckled while glancing down at Hawkins. "Oh, why isn't this cute? The big bad John Silver has a soft spot for a pathetic kid!"

Hook drew his sword and then pointed it at Silver.

"I will carve his name into your heart!" Hook growled.

"Ya haven't been the first to try today?!" Silver chuckled.

Who's next? Don Karnage?

Great continuation of your arc! I'm pulling for Silver again.

I definitely thought about using Don Karnage. There are so many great classic characters to pick from
