"The beauty and mystery of the ocean, fills our lives with wonders, vast beyond our imagination.”  – M. L. Borges, By The Sea

From one moment to another, the sea can change as if it had a mind of its own. The ocean can offer breathtaking sun rises to devastating storms that have waves that can seem as though they touch the skies above. Since the early days of man, many had a goal that was to master the seas but in reality, it was an unattainable goal for mankind. The destructions caused by harsh waves have proven to be the end for many that have dared to cross the oceans. While the very world beneath the surface of the water has become a nightmare for those that have called this world their home. From creatures that lived along the ocean floor to magic with the very waters, the sea was very much a world of its own. With the growth of civilization, so did the means of travel. Ships were created to fare against the seven seas.

These vessels journeyed across the oceans; new worlds were discovered. With these new discoveries, there were legends and treasures that were moved throughout the world. These treasures and mysteries brought something new to the ocean. Piracy spread throughout the seas as ships multiplied. With the growing number of ships, there were more legends being discovered and more mysteries that were created. Adventures could be had far and wide. Treasures could be discovered one moment and lost in another in the vast reaches of the ocean. The mysteries were endless and the life within the sea was vast beyond the imagination of man. There was magic and beauty on all depths of the ocean. From cursed ships to mystical realms, the ocean is beyond comprehension.

As the search for treasure and the lust for adventure grew in the hearts of man, battles erupted over the oceans. Vessels were lost and stories were passed from one person to the next. There was one story in particular that fascinated adventure seeker and treasure hunter alike. A story of a vast treasure that a pirate captain had collected over a lifetime. This pirate, Captain Flint was said to have a treasure that could cover an entire island and his legend spread throughout the world. Many that had set sail on the ocean during the time of Captain Flint had come to fear his reign of terror. The feared pirate captain had eventually hidden his treasure from the world upon an island lost to any known map. This island became a myth to many that had set sail upon the open seas and was given the name Treasure Island. In his desire to keep his treasure from the world, the pirate captain had most of his men killed with the exception of one by the name of Billy Bones. Captain Flint died shortly after, and the legendary Treasure Island became another myth that was lost at sea.

With the reign of Captain Flint faded away; other pirates had risen to infamy. From the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow to the frightening legend of Captain Barbossa and the cursed crew of the Back Pearl, many legends were told of the seven seas. Overtime, these infamous pirates had battle for one another to claim the right as captain over the uncontrollable sea. With the fall of Davy Jones and the defeat of the East India Trading Company, the sea was once again a haven for explorers and adventure seekers. The legend of Treasure Island would soon find life once again as Billy Bones set sail into the vast beauty of the ocean...

Tortuga...

Music played over the rowdy crowd while drinks were had among all those inside. Within this bar of rowdy pirates and scum was Billy Bones. He gripped a bottle of rum as he staggered along the crowd. His rants were ignored by many within the crowd but his words caught the ears of a few conniving pirates. Billy sat down at the bar with his bottle of rum by his side. He cheered as he watched the rowdy crowd dancing within and laughed as he reflected on his earlier days at sea. Billy continued to ramble on about Captain Flint and the fabled Treasure Island. Many in the Tavern were either too drunk to notice what he was saying or simply thought it was the words of an old fool. As it was said, there were some that had open ears to what the old pirate was saying.

Pintel and Ragetti heard the words of the old drunk. A large dirty smiled formed from ear to ear on Pintel as Ragetti looked slightly confused. Pintel gazed into Ragetti's one eye and told him to shut his mouth so that Pintel could hear what was being said. Ragetti started to giggle as he heard about Treasure Island and could not help but image an island full of lost treasure. He wondered aloud as his imagination ran wild. Ragetti imagined the favor that they would earn in the sight of their feared captain, Hector Barbossa. Pintel once again told him to be silent as he leaned in closer to the drunken pirate. The scent of rum was strong on Billy Bones as Pintel and Ragetti moved in closer. As Billy continued to spout in his drunken rant, he leaned back in his stool. The pirate slurred his words as he gazed around the room of pirates. Before he could say the location of the map that led to the location of Treasure Island, Billy went silent. His face went pale and a cold chill went down his spine.

"Where did you say the map was again?" Pintel said as he grinned. His rotting teeth appeared under his cracked lips.

The drunken pirate started gasping for air as his blood ran cold. "The one-legged sailor..." He mumbled under his intoxicated breath.

"I beg your pardon?" Ragetti said with a dumbfounded look. Ragetti leaned in close to the drunken pirate. He pointed his ear toward him, hoping to hear what he had to say.

Cold lines of sweat ran down Billy's head as he felt his stomach turn. His breath started growing heavily as he felt himself starting to panic. He muttered, "A friend to no livin' crea...." Before he could finish his thought, Billy vomited all over Ragetti.

Ragetti squealed as he jumped up from his seat. Pintel's eyes shot open as he could not get his eyes off what had happened to Ragetti. The stench of vomit and rum dripped off Ragetti. With a turn in his stomach as a result of the overwhelming smell, Pintel then vomited on Ragetti. Ragetti squealed once again in complete disgust.

"Are you serious?!" Ragetti screamed as he staggered back and bumped into a group of drunk sailors.

Ragetti quickly spun around to face the group of drunken sailors. The sailors stumbled and in a fit of drunken rage pushed Ragetti back into the bar. With this outburst, a fight broke loose amongst many of the sailors and pirates within the bar. Ragetti's one eyes widened as he could not believe what was happening. In the chaos that was occurring, he was then grabbed by Pintel who pulled him by his shoulders.

"You idiot!" Pintel screamed in Ragetti's ear.

"What'd I do?!" Ragetti asked in disbelief.

"Ya let the drunken fool get away!" Pintel yelled as he pointed in the direction that Billy once sat.

Ragetti glanced at Pintel and then at the direction of the stool once again. "We best go lookin' for him!" Ragetti squeaked as leaned forward.

Pintel and Ragetti made their way through the crowds of fighting pirates. Little did they know that there was a dangerous pirate within the bar. A one-legged pirate that was fear by Captain Flint himself. The two dimwitted pirates stumbled out into the streets of Tortuga. The dim light of the moon shined upon the streets. Ragetti looked left and Pintel looked right. There was no sign of the pirate that they had met in the bar in sight. Ragetti spun around while Pintel quickly turned, and both stumbled into each other.

"Come on ya fool!" Pintel yelled as he started running toward the docks. "He's probably gettin' away there!"

Ragetti followed behind Pintel as they rushed to the docks. In the pale moonlight, they could see a dim view of the pirate stumbling onto a small ship. The ship started to embark on its voyage. Pintel and Ragetti slowly glanced at each other and then quickly looked at the direction of the ship.

"Maybe we should tell Barbossa." Ragetti muttered as he glanced at Pintel.

"That's probably the best idea you've had in a while!" Pintel said with a smile.

The two pirates stumbled through the ports of Tortuga as they headed back to the Black Pearl.

Within the Black Pearl...

Sitting in the Captain's quarter, Hector Barbossa glared upon the incomplete map that led to the Fountain of Youth. He gazed of the missing center for hours. Hate boiled within him as he glanced over at a Wanted poster for the infamous Jack Sparrow.

"Jack..." Barbossa mumbled as he glared upon the painted photo of Jack Sparrow. "Jack Sparrow! I should have killed you when I had the chance!"

Barbossa stabbed the poster of Jack Sparrow with his daggers. He grumbled and growled as he started to lean back in his chair. With a sigh, the feared Captain of the Black Pearl grabbed his dagger that was sticking out of the table. He reached over for an apple and took a massive bit. The juices of the apple dripped down his unkempt beard. From the shadows; the small monkey that Barbossa had adopted and named Jack, leapt onto Barbossa's shoulder. Hector used his dagger to slice a piece of apple. He handed the slice to his small companion. Jack snatched the apple and started chewing away at the slice that was given to him.

A smile formed over Barbossa's face as he looked over his monkey. The Pirate Captain took another bite from his apple as he started over some other maps that he had in his possession. While looking over the map of the world, Barbossa planned on what his next venture would be. For so many years, he sought to free himself of that dreaded curse. After escaping death, Hector reflected on his temporary alliance with Jack Sparrow in the battle against Davy Jones and the East India Trading Company. All these thoughts led to this very moment of Barbossa gazing over the maps of the world. As he tried to plan on what he was going to do next, he heard a banging outside his door.

"Who dares disturb me?!" Barbossa hissed as he gave a piercing glared at his door.

The banging on the Captain's door continued. Barbossa's blood slowly started to boil. He hated asking a question twice. With a piercing glared at the door; he once again asked, "Who dares disturb your Captain!"

"Just us, sir!" The voice squeaked from the other side of the door. "Ragetti and Pintel!"

Barbossa rolled his eyes and let out a grunt. With a deep breath; the Pirate Captain yelled, "Why is that ye disturb me?"

"We have news on..." Pintel spoke up before leaning close to the door. In a hush voice; he muttered, "Treasure Island."

The wrinkled eyes of Barbossa opened wide. He swung open the door and looked upon the two dimwitted pirates that have sailed under his command for years.

"What news do you bring?!" Barbossa hissed.

"A sailor by the name of...." Ragetti replied as he stopped for a moment. "We did not actually get his name."

Pintel mumbled some words as he went back and forth with Ragetti. Barbossa rolled his eyes and grabbed both pirates by the shoulders.

"What do you know?!" Barbossa growled as his yellowing teeth reflected off the eyes of the two pirates.

"An ol' chap was talkin' about sailin' under Captain Flint!" Pintel spoke up as he tried regaining his composure. "Said he even has a map to Treasure Island!"

"Where is this man now?" Barbossa asked while releasing his grip from the two.

"He left on his ship not long ago." Ragetti said with his one eye on Barbossa.

Barbossa sighed and shook his head. "Which direction did he go?" He asked in frustration.

"South east." Ragetti quickly responded.

"No, you idiot!" Pintel interjected.  "He was headin' north east!"

Ragetti swerved around and placed his arms in the air. He nodded and then turned back to face Barbossa. "North east." Ragetti muttered.

"Gather the crew!" Barbossa ordered. "We got us a ship to catch!"

The Black Pearl was set to depart in search of this ship. With the lowered sails, the legendary ship sped across the water. Barbossa sauntered around the deck while his crew were hard at work. The feared Pirate Captain roared out orders while the crew tried to fulfill ever command. They were unaware that there was another ship on the sea that was searching for the same treasure.

With dawn came a breathtaking view of rays of sun light over the clear blue ocean. It was a sight seen countless times by the crew of the Black Pearl. Barbossa could see the ship that they were tracking with a monocular. He speculated that they would catch the ship by day break. It was but a matter of time. In his mind, he may not have been able to obtain the Fountain of Youth but he could find the legendary Treasure Island. He knew that this treasure would allow him to obtain a fleet of ships with an army of pirates at his command. He would be the most powerful Pirate on the Seven Seas.

As it was said though, the ocean has a mind of its own. In one moment, it was clear blue skies. In changing tides, a storm swept through with crushing winds. Waves nearly touched the skies as Barbossa ran to the helm. They had lost track of the ship that they were tracking. In this moment, Captain Barbossa let go of his desire to find Treasure Island. He was going to sail through the fury of this storm. Captain Barbossa barked out ordered while steering the Black Pearl through the worst storm that he had ever seen. With the powerful winds and the mountain sized waves, the Pirate Captain struggled through the storm.

From one moment to the next, the storm had finally died down. The Sea was calm once again. The ship that they were tracking was nowhere to be seen. The Pirate Captain could see the joy in the faces of his crew for surviving such a storm. Barbossa shook his nodded his head as his monkey companion jumped onto his shoulder.

"WHAT ARE YA DOIN' JUST STANDIN' AROUND?!" Barbossa roared. "GET BACK TO WORK! ALL OF YA! WE SET SAIL FOR NORTH EAST! WE WILL SEARCH EVERY ISLAND 'TIL WE FIND THAT SHIP!"

Captain Barbossa knew that there were islands off the coast of England. He would send crew members to the islands to search. Barbossa would find that map by any means necessary.

Admiral Benbow Inn

Staggering around the inn, Billy Bones was fearful of the seafaring man with one leg. Going by the name of the Captain, he spent several months at the Inn. He came to know the son of the Innkeeper. Billy had a view of the majestic ocean and waited...

Most know the tale and what unfolds from there. Billy Bones was found by the crew of seafaring one-legged pirate, and a fight broke loose. Unbeknownst to Bones or the crew of seafaring one-legged pirate, there were a couple pirates that had sailed with Captain Hector Barbossa in the crowd. A couple pirates that had heard the story of Treasure Island from Billy Bones himself. Before they could reach Billy in the fight, chaos spread through the Inn. Billy eventually lost his life. He did not die at the hands of the seafaring one-legged pirate, nor did he die at the hands of Silver's crew. Billy Bones was overtaken by a stroke or two. Before he passed, he gave all that he had to the son of the Innkeeper. Admiral Benbow Inn was destroyed in the chaos and all seemed lost.

There was a glimmer of hope for finding the fabled Island. The son of the Innkeeper had the map and looked to set sail in finding the treasure so that he may rebuild his family's Inn. The son, Jim Hawkins joins the crew of Captain Smollett on the Hispanoila. While suspicious of the ship's Cook and Quartermaster for his missing a leg, Jim grew cllose with Long John Silver. As the Hispanoila set sail for the Caribbean, Captain Smollett was unaware of what was about to unfold. Little did he know that mutiny would soon transpire which was being led by Silver, and little did he know that his ship was being tracked by the infamous Black Pearl.

As the events of unfolded, the young Jim Hawkins grew closer to the ship's quartermaster, John Silver. The closer they grew; young Jim saw John like a father and John Silver even saw Jim like a son. Many of Silver's crew questioned the seasoned pirate's loyalty as they watched his interactions with the young Hawkins. Despite his growing friendship with the young lad, Silver was going to see his plan through. With the mutiny breaking out, Jim felt deep betrayal when he discovered that it was John Silver leading the raid. Jim was able to escape the clutches of Silver's mutiny. Captain Smollet and a few of his remaining crew were also able to escape as well. Long John Silver had taken control of the Hispanoila and set sail for the legendary Treasure Island. While heading toward the legendary island, some of Silver's crew thought it best to question the infamous Long John Silver.

"Me and the others were wonderin'..." One of Silver's crew spit out as he looked at the one-legged pirate in the eyes. "What'd ya plan on doin' with the boy?"

Silver thought for a moment at Jim Hawkins. He quickly grumbled and growled as he glared upon the matinee that asked him that question. "Ya dear question me?!" Silver growled as he glared upon him. "If I felt I didn't need ya, I'd cut your throat and have you thrown to the sharks!"

"We seen ya with the boy!" The crew member argued. "We're just scared that ya might have gotten a tad soft."

"SOFT!" Silver screamed as he took out a flintlock pistol and aimed it at the crewmember. The other mutineers quickly drew their blades as they watched Silver aiming his pistol at the crewmember. "Ye listen here! The all of ya! I ain't gotten soft! I'll gut that boy if he stands between us and the treasure! I'll gut any of ya that question my loyalty!"

The crew member scoffed as he put up his hands. "We was only curious, Captain." The crew member said as he a smirk formed across his face.

Silver put his pistol away and commanded his crew to get back to work. Silver sauntered to the railing of the ship and gazed out at the sea. Several thoughts raced through his mind but every thought eventually led to one thing, the treasure.

Treasure Island...

Jim Hawkins had made it to the island. He could see the Hispanoila in the distance and knew it was but a matter of time before he would have to face his former friend and mentor. Suddenly, he saw from the shore another ship approaching with black sails. The dark ship started circling around the Hispanoila. Long John Silver stood out upon the deck. His piercing glared upon the Black Pearl was followed by a mumble of words that were hidden under his breath. "Hector Barbossa..."

Standing behind the helm, the Captain of the Black Pearl roared out to his crew, "READY THE CANNONS! GET YOUR WEAPONS READY SWORDS READY!"

"Damn..." John Silver growled as he watched the Black Pearl make itself known. "PREPARE THE CANNONS, MEN! WE GOT OURSELVES A FIGHT!" John Silver then sauntered to the railing. He yelled out at the Pearl, "TURN BACK NOW, BARBOSSA OR TO THE LOCKER YOU WILL HEAD!"

"YOU WILL NEVER GET THE GOLD! WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER, LONG JOHN SILVER!" Barbossa shouted in response.

The two ships circled each other as both prepared for battle.

**************

Hector Barbossa has the Black Pearl and his crew. (They are not cursed). He also has his sword and pistol

Long John Silver has his crew and the Hispanoila ship. He also has a sword and pistol.

I teach Treasure Island. I will remind our readers, Blackbeard was scared of Captain Flint and Captain Flint was scared of Barbeque (and for the Peter Pan lovers, Barbeque was afeared of Captain Hook). So I am throwing in with Long John.

Nice setup, love how you tied POTC and Treasure Island together.

I think it will come down to the better ship, and the Black Pearl being an actual frigate I think she has the best chance of winning.

Though Silver has been shown to be willing to treat with others, he might try and cut a deal with Barbosa and then backstab him.

Aye that is true. Also Smee would later go on to tell people he was the only pirate Hook was afraid of.

Damn this is awesome! Both are great characters, and there are so many similarities. I've got a (quite hard to find it seems) book about Silver called Long John Silver by Bjorn Larsson which is absolutely amazing and made me love the character even more. He's smart, ruthless, and always plotting the next success.

I think the most logical outcome here is that The Black Pearl will win, but in the end Silver will outsmart/outfight Barbossa and become the new captain of the Pearl!

Silver for the win.
