  1. SUMMARY AVAILABLE AT BOTTOM OF SETUP. PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE ALL MYTHOLOGICAL VERSIONS; NOT MARVEL, DC OR SUPERNATURAL ---------------------------- The End of Flipside – Part 2 of 2 (The End Part 1; Thanos & Darkseid VS Z Fighters: http://www.electricf...showtopic=25474) ---------------------------- FLIPSIDE Flipside is a world beneath ours where dreams go to die. Imagine a world created solely for the repository of our imaginations, where the unwritten stories live alongside those never completed and every fickle being that has ever been conjured from the deep recesses of our mind walks the yellow brick roads that pave the way to the great cities of our make-believe. Flipside is a place where you can get anything, or if you are not careful, where anything can get you. You can find ogres, dragons, superheroes, demons, knights and dead pop stars drinking alongside each other in any of the many bars, pubs and nightclubs that offer every vice imaginable. You can only access Flipside if you wish for it hard enough, or are desperate enough, or have a death wish. Gods walk through the streets, passing undead cheerleaders or old cowboy gunslingers and no one bats an eyelid. Tourism is a big trade, mainly because Flipside gets a cut of the insurance money, which is ridiculously high. In a world where Satan, Dr Doom, Hannibal Lecter and Jason Vorhees can establish their own businesses, no one can ever really be safe. So… welcome to Flipside; a place where dreams can come true, or, more likely, where nightmares will kill you. For god’s sake; be careful. ----------------------------- Ugh. I awoke with pain everywhere. I breathed in quickly, which only caused more pain to at least two cracked ribs in my side. I hadn’t yet opened my eyes, but when I finally did I didn’t have a clue what I was looking at. Blurbs slowly transformed into shapes as my eyesight adjusted to the light. A chair, a table, what seemed like white walls and a window into a bland field outside; I must be in a hospital. And that’s when memories start returning. Painful memories that only complimented the agony my body was experiencing. An explosion had taken Flipside police station, powerful and devastating and I doubted that there would be many survivors. For those of you who haven't already met me, my name is Arthur. Yes like the King and yes, the same person. I am protected by Merlin the Magician's most powerful ancient spells and carry at my side Excalibur, the gun reshaped from my old sword. It shoots bullets that kill instantly and the name Arthur Pendragon has become synonymous with death in Flipside. Oh, I am also an alcoholic, and worse, a cop. A very beat up cop in this instance. Suddenly I heard the familiar sound of grating stone on stone. There weren’t many types of sounds that were more familiar than that of a walking statue (apart from the odd gargoyle) and relief flooded my aching bones as I realised that there had been at least one other survivor. The door opened and Plato, the living statue walked through the door. Once reputed to be the most intelligent man of ancient Greece this philosopher and mathematician was killed by his own student. Aristotle. Jealous of his teacher’s superior intellect and renown, the student made a deal with a sorcerer to banish Plato’s soul from the world of the living. Luckily, sensing there may be an opportunity to twist the words of the spell, the soul of the genius Plato entered a recently erected statue of himself and proceeded to crush the sorcerer and discredit Aristotle. His logical mind and prodigious deductive reasoning were being put to good use in the Flipside Police department and I counted him as a personal friend (plus a relatively cheap house guest). “Pendragon…. You Survived!” said the statue in a voice like sandpaper on glass. “Plato, thank god. Did anyone else make it?” I was almost shaking with grief, anger and pain all rolled into one unstoppable ball of inner turmoil. “Very Few. Those That Were On Duty Out Of The Main Station And A Few That Happened To Be At The Edges Of The Explosion. The Whole Block Suffered Many Losses.” “What do you mean the whole block? Who else was hit?” I was suddenly sitting up in the bed despite the pain. “It Wasn’t Just The Station You Know?” said the statue. “Where else?” “The Whole Eastern Block, It Seems That Thanos And Darkseid Made An Escape From Flipside Into Another Dimension. The Resulting Explosion Destroyed Nearly Fifty Buildings.” Plato spoke each word slowly and sturdily. “I didn’t even think it was possible to escape Flipside like that! I wonder where they went.” “The Question Of More Importance It Why They Left. Reason Rather Than Location.” “You have a point” After that we spoke for a while of fallen comrades. We didn’t mention the case again and neither did we mention where the police force of Flipside would go from here. ----------------------------- Three days later I was fit enough to finally leave the hospital and that meant that I was due some answers. No one was too mighty to answer my questions and I didn’t care how many feathers I ruffled (the chain of command seemed to have fallen to me and the surviving cops appeared to be happy with this change; anger does that for you). Politicians, heroes, villains, priests, musicians… I questioned everyone for some whisper or some inclination as to what had happened or what was going to happen. Something monumental enough to scare off Thanos and Darkseid was coming, and I was damned if I was going to be unprepared. Lead after lead led nowhere until finally I got in touch with the Question. This man of mystery and official conspiracy nut seemed to have something and usually proved to be worthwhile listening to. But as usual, his message was cryptic. “He’s growing up and moving on. The world is unravelling.” Not a great help, but the way he had found the hidden message was interesting. It appeared to be embedded in technology code everywhere. The Question showed me strings of computer code and screens of television static and, amazingly, he was right. There, in bold letters, I could see it. “He’s growing up and moving on. The world is unravelling.” It was a lead but I had no idea how to follow it up. ----------------------------- I went to see Professor X. The X-Mansion had previously been on red alert and complete lockdown but this time I wasn’t backing down. After racing through obstacle courses and letting Merlin’s magic absorb as much fire power as it could safely bear, I finally made it into the mansion. Professor X was there to greet me with a small army of X-men. “Arthur, I’m glad you finally came. I apologise for the defences but we are on top alert and could afford no lapse to security” said Professor X as he let me down a hall. “Prof, what’s going on here? You look like you’re preparing for a war!” “I don’t know what we are preparing for, but I have a feeling it will be worse than anything we have ever experienced to date.” “I dunno Prof, you weren’t there for the episode of the Hannibal the Cannibal clones… that was pretty bad.” “Listen to me Arthur. Something is coming and I don’t know how we can stop it!” The fear in his voice stopped me in my tracks. “But WHAT is coming?!” “The end of everything!” his eyes were bright as he said the words and I could sense the panic almost palatably. ----------------------------- When I left the Mansion I was none the wiser about what to do. Professor X’s lead had seemed uncannily like the Question’s. Rather than something solid or concrete, it was a whisper or a rumour. Just as the Question had found words buried in technology, Prof had heard it whispered through Cerebro, apparently tapping in to the subconscious of every mutant in Flipside. Deep in their thoughts he had read a message, repeated constantly over and over again; The End. He brings the End. The End. He brings the End. Over and over ----------------------------- There were a million other clues that I could have started following up but I didn’t need to. The End and whoever this mysterious “He” was had come to Flipside and brought with him death and anarchy. No one saw him, or even heard or sensed him (and we have many senses in Flipside) but he was there just the same. People fell in the street, blood erupting from their eyes and flesh falling from their bones. Some simply disappeared into nothingness. Some melted and others burned. It was an apocalypse of unimaginable proportions and no one seemed immune to it. I found Plato outside my house, his fist raised to the heavens. He was just a statue again. From a high point in town I could usually see the X-Mansion… I saw only a crater in the ground. And then suddenly, from that high point in town I looked to the edge of Flipside and just couldn’t believe what I saw. Nothing. Oh, I’m not saying there wasn’t anything there… there was. It was pure and unaltered nothingness. A negative energy that seemed to suck away at everything it touched and simply makes it disappear. Blackness darker than any night; no stars or light of any sort and an absence of any life or even death. It was as if nothing had ever existed. Lightning crashed around me and I whirled around to see the heavens open. From the skies the Gods descended and they were in a panic. In the absence of a tangible enemy they turned on each other. The Greek, Norse and Egyptian pantheons blamed the new religions and the God Wars exploded above us all. Angel fought God in sky and on earth the Kings of Gods, Zeus, Odin and Ra faced Jesus and his two most powerful angels, the fallen Lucifer and the archangel Michael. I turned away from the battle as realisation slowly dawned. I quickly ran back to my house and jumped into my car. I think I finally understood what was happening and who this mysterious bringer of the apocalypse was…. ----------------------------- I drove and drove as the God wars continued behind me. I drove straight towards the nothingness, not daring to think what I was doing; simply acting. I stopped at the edge and saw it slowly moving forward, destroying everything in its path. Simply removing it from existence. “Please stop!” I shouted as loudly as possible. “PLEAAASEEE STTTOPP!!!” I knew who this “He” was… had long suspected that we lived in a realm of pure imagination. And if “He” was moving on or growing up, then Flipside would simply cease to exist. It was a terrifying thought… to simply be part of someone’s mind, a figment of his imagination and that we could all be dismissed that simply. “You can’t do it!” I cried. “There are lives here, real people… we rely on you! Don’t abandon us!” I didn’t know if anyone could hear my cries or whether I had simply snapped under the strain. Maybe I was still back in the hospital bed and this was all just a terrible coma induced hallucination. But I couldn’t stop. If Flipside was just part of some madman’s terrible mind, then we needed to do everything to ensure he did not forget. I drew Excalibur, my most trusted ally and fired again and again and again into the sky. Shouting for forgiveness, for mercy, for a chance simple chance to live past the nothingness of oblivion. Finally, when I could no longer feel my finger pulling the trigger and my voice was merely a croak; I dropped to my knees. I, Arthur Pendragon, the warrior who had saved England and forged a Kingdom, dropped to my knees and for the first time in my life begged. “Please don’t do this creator… Please save Flipside…” I begged and begged as the nothingness kept coming. Plea…. ----------------------------- THE END ----------------------------- SUMMARY Whilst the Pantheons fight Angels in the sky, the main battle takes place on Earth. The Kings of Gods: Zeus, Odin and Ra (all from mythology) VS Jesus and his two most powerful angels, the fallen Lucifer and the archangel Michael.
  2. SUMMARY AVAILABLE AT BOTTOM OF SETUP The End of Flipside – Part 1 of 2 (Part 2 available at http://www.electricferret.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25476) ---------------------------- FLIPSIDE Flipside is a world beneath ours where dreams go to die. Imagine a world created solely for the repository of our imaginations, where the unwritten stories live alongside those never completed and every fickle being that has ever been conjured from the deep recesses of our mind walks the yellow brick roads that pave the way to the great cities of our make-believe. ----------------------------- Something was different. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but something had definitely changed. It was as if a subtle wind had blown into town and everyone was waiting to see which way it would blow next. The world still turned, but we were all waiting to see which way. Although I am pretty much always confined to the big stuff these days, I still need to occasionally do the beat. Every cop does and there are no exceptions. Not being up to date with what is hitting the streets these days is pretty much like signing your own death warrant; so the lowest recruit to the chief himself all have to spend at least one day a month just wandering around the circus that is Flipside. And I have to say; today made me nervous. It wasn’t something I could put my finger on. The street sellers still shouted out their wares, although a bit more muted than normal. New age religious and political factions still sprouted up wherever they could find mindless drone followers, but they seems more cautious and reserved than normal. Perhaps I was getting old and everything was just a bit duller. Nah! Flipside had seen off murderous gods, time travelling chaos monsters and, recently, a horde of otherworldly demons; events which I had been right in the thick of. No, there was definitely something wrong. So I did as I usually did when I suspected something was up: asked questions. My first unlucky bystander happened to be a Green Lantern and I approached him with caution (you never knew when there would be more of their intergalactic peace keeping pals around). He was not a familiar face. “Something strange going on?” I asked, deciding the direct approach would be best. He eyed me strangely. “Who are you?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “Arthur Pendragon, Flipside Law. Not often I see a new Green Lantern around.” “I’m on duty, go away.” I stopped my hand from automatically going to Excalibur. Age was not doing my patience any good. “I’m just asking a question buddy, is there a problem?” And then I saw that he was surprisingly young for a Lantern. They must be bringing new recruits in for some Flipside experience. Best kind really. “I’m not supposed to talk to you.” It was my turn to raise an eyebrow. “You mean me specifically don’t you.” He nodded nervously. “Why me?” I asked, my hand slowly creeping towards the gun at my side of its own accord. Age and experience had given me an almost second sense for danger. Unfortunately he saw the move and immediately raised his ring. “Please don’t.” I let my hand fall away from Excalibur. “You don’t really want a fight with me kid. Just tell me what’s going on.” “No Mr Pendragon, I can’t tell you. No one can know and you must leave me alone now.” Without another word, a green glow enveloped his frame and he took to the skies. I watched him fly away, my mind racing with unanswered questions. --------------------------------------------------------- The next stop on my quest for answers was probably the best option. I had worked with the X-men on a few occasions (including once saving all of their lives) and had come to know and respect their leader, Charles Xavier, better known as Professor X. But I didn’t get a chance to speak to him. X-Mansion was on a complete lock down and defensive turrets threatened in mechanical voices to shoot if I took another step. Knowing the fire power these things held, I cautiously retreated. --------------------------------------------------------- Eventually after a frustrating day I made my way back to the station. No one knew or was talking about what was happening. Maybe it was just my imagination I thought as I walked through the large gate framed by the giant phoenix statue. The usual criminals and cops played their game around the station and paperwork piled up everywhere. I nodded to the appropriate people, smiled at some and got the cold shoulder from others and headed towards my office where I could finally sit down and think. I never made it. BOOOM!!!! The heat hit me first, then the noise and finally the waves of pure devastation. I was flung through a wall and even as I sailed through the air I saw friends being incinerated by flames. I felt ribs crack and my arm snap as I landed in a crumpled heap, unmercifully kept alive by Merlin’s spells and saw the station burning, bodies scorching and heard screams echoing all around. The unthinkable had happened; someone had bombed Flipside’s police station. Slowly my head lowered and as the smoke and ashes settled around me, I mercifully passed out. --------------------------------------------------------- A ship landed in the midst of the darkness and slowly powered down. Four figures approached from out of the gloom, taking shape as they approached the vessel. Desaad, Granny Goodness and Kalibak held back slightly as Darkseid strode forward, confidence and power radiating with every step. A door slid open and a single figure came out to meet the four. Thanos squared up in front of Darkseid and each sized the other up. They had met on previous occasions but none as monumental as this. And then the unthinkable happened. Slowly but assertively, Thanos struck out his hand. And Darkseid grasped it! The unholy alliance had begun. “Are you ready New God?” “Indeed I am Titan” And then Darkseid smiled and held out a hand. On it laid an array of sparkling lights, twisting and turning and constantly shifting. Beautiful and blinding yet holding untold power; the Anti-life Equation! “And do you have your part of the bargain?” said Darkseid, the light reflecting in this eyes. “Oh yes” replied the Titan, and he raised his fist. It was covered by a golden glove studded with glittering gems. The Infinity Gauntley! “Then let us begin” Darkseid and Thanos thrust their hands together and power flared up all around them. Desaad, Granny and Kalibak were obliterated in an instant as were the buildings surrounding them. The Titan and the New God held strong as the very fabric of Flipside tore apart around them. Only the most powerful of enchantments and powers could hope to escape the veil that held this fantastical world together and these two artefacts from beyond time held enough power to do just that. Suddenly a tear appeared in front of them. “Finally we can escape” said Thanos, stepping forward. “Yes, this world is doomed and we will be the only survivors” replied Darkseid following the Titan. Together they stepped through the tear into another world. --------------------------------------------------------- Thanos threw the Infinity Gauntlet aside in disgust. The gems no longer sparkled. “It is used up” he sighed. “Such power, simply to break free of Flipside. “Indeed, the Anti-life equation has dissipated; a heavy price to pay for survival. But it seems we have hosts to greet us…” Before the pair stood ten figures dressed in outlandish clothing and seemingly ready for fight. “Who are you?” said a tall man with blond hair. Lightning flickered around him and his eyes glowed a bright white. “We are the new masters of this realm, and you will do well to bow before your Gods!” said Darkseid, his eyes glowing a terrible red. There would be no further discussion between the protective forces of good and the invading pure evil and soon blood would soak the ground…. THE BATTLE HAD BEGUN! --------------------------------------------------------- SIMPLE SUMMARY Thanos and Darkseid VS Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, TIen Shinhan, Yamcha, Trunks (Young), Goten (Young), Android 18. Note that the Gogeta fusion is available if required. Neither team has any knowledge of the other and the battle takes place in an open field surrounded by mountains with no population in the vicinity. FIGHT!
  3. Simple really Rakai, I didn't realise we had number 2 in there. To be honest, I thought this one was useful as a generic Pred and regrettably my knowledge of Predators is somewhat limited. I enjoy the films but not a fan to the same degree as you are. Thanks for pointing that out though.
  4. Skip to SUMMARY at bottom of setup to get straight to the fight! ----------------------------------------------------- Tales of the Torn TARDIS – Part 3 It’s a blue police box, the kind that hasn’t been seen in England since the 1980’s, and it flies through time and space driven by the impeccable will of a madman and genius. The TARDIS and the Doctor, two lost souls venturing into unknown territories, forever seeking but never concluding their everlasting journey. Who could have foreseen their ultimate destinies after their countless adventures? A destiny that could spell the end of everything…. It was the black of space, cold, unending and dotted with the burning stars which the Doctor liked to think of as a horizon. He liked comparisons like that; something that would remind him of Earth, the planet he would call home. So many faces from the past flashed in his mind, some dead, some long forgotten, some loved and all left behind. He was good at that; leaving things behind. He brushed his hand along the smooth edge of a flashing screen and felt the familiar hum and rumble of the TARDIS. Familiar and soothing, like a mother cradling her child. He smiled at the thought. Suddenly a whirling light flashed on a table and a loud siren started sounding. The Doctor flew over to the control deck, furiously flicking switches and turning dials and the result was a large screen which floated before him. His mouth fell open as he saw the appearance before him. A man? Surely not, it was a nightmarish fusion of technology and flesh of imaginable proportions. It was larger than planets, larger than suns and amazingly bipedal in appearance, purple and blue and with a gaze that spoke of eternal wisdom. From far in the deepest recesses of his memory came a name familiar in the ancient histories of Gallifrey; Galactus, devourer of worlds! A myth surely! A legend made to scare children! And yet, here he was, the ancient terror, as clear as could be. And just as the Doctor watched the wielder of the power cosmic, so too did the God of Oblivion turn his gaze upon the mighty TARDIS and his eyes went wide with something like astonishment. He raised his hand… Cosmic power reached out towards pure time energy and the two clashed in a raging tornado of elemental chaos. Galactus fed like he had never fed before, his power swelling and growing inside him; cosmic and temporal forces raged in his heart and expanded until he could no longer contain them. Galactus imploded in on himself, a being older than the universe torn asunder by pure time and the TARDIS, itself feeding on the backlash of power cosmic distorted and tore apart trying to contain the reaction… The TARDIS blew apart in a showering of energy; the six pieces that formed the outer shell flew in six different directions through time and space and in their wake time and space became distorted and rippled. Beings aged backwards and children gave birth to their parents. Time streams split and ancient beings walked with future entities. Old nightmares were reborn and new wars began throughout the universe as creatures that should never have met were brought together in a savage wrenching of reality. Ancient Leviathans from burnt out stars collided with Imperial Cruisers and the darkness of space was awash with death. Of the Doctor there was no sign. It was the DESTRUCTION OF TIME and nothing would ever be the same again…. ----------------------------------------------------- Following: 1. Princess Leia Organa VS Padme Amidala – Padme Amidala 2. Vlad the Impaler and Blackbeard VS Robin – Tie The sun dips behind the Great Wall, basking the hills with the deep red of a cloudless dusk. A lone figure carrying a bucket trudges up a beaten track, his burden is heavy and he stoops under its weight. As the figure comes into focus, you see that it is an old man. The wrinkles that line his face are a sharp contrast to the youth you see in his eyes. It is as if childhood curiosity has stayed with this man throughout his hard life and not managed to break his spirit. You see him smile to himself as a thought passes through, gone the instant it arrived but the smile lingers for a while for it is a thought of his son. Alone and lonely, the old man trudges on. Suddenly out of the sky comes a bright light. Faster than lightning but yet gently, it sears its way through the heavens towards the old man, and just like a lightning bolt it brings with it the rage and turmoil of THUNDER! “BROOOOORRRR!” The sound and impact merged into one and the old man was lifted into the air with the power rushing through him. The TARDIS fed into the soul of the old man as time, space and flesh merged into one. Light flared in the old man’s eyes as the knowledge of eons fluttered around his mind. And yet the smile remained. So close to death, the old man thought of his son and the last moments they had spent together. They had rented films from the only video shop they could afford and, on an old TV badly in need of repair; they had watched some old movies together. His son had chosen well and the films had been sci-fi and horror mixed. Old news for most of the world, but the height of wonder for this forgotten part of China. Father and son had jumped, laughed and cringed as Hollywood monsters killed and maimed and heroes and heroines faced insurmountable odds to survive. The old man’s smile widened as he reached out with his mind and new found powers and found a world beyond ours, a world of imagination and dreams on the Flipside of reality, and brought forward these creatures of nightmare through time and space. Almost as an afterthought, he conjures some weapons for these creatures from an old game that his son had been playing on an old computer. Under his control and yet free-willed, he turned them loose on our dimension; he would give his son a true treat! ----------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY After a clash between Galactus and the TARDIS, an old man is given the powers of time and space and brings Terminator, Robocop, Alien and Predator into our reality from another world. For his and his son’s amusement, he has them fight each other to the death. Incarnations are: - Terminator from T3 - Robocop from RoboCop 2 VS - Alien; the grid alien from AVP - Predator from Predator 2 (no wrist bomb) All the weapons from the Doom (2) game are scattered around the place.
  5. Dammit. You read my mind!! Yes, Nightcrawler VS John Druitt was my next Flipside match. Back to the drawing board and I'm leaning towards Nightcrawler for more combat experience (although Druitt comes close through aggression and murderous intent). Haven't read anything with Vanisher in it for ages so can't remember his full powers but from Wiki it sounds like he could take the battle. Stay outta my head Methos...

Not even Bruce knew of this habit, this tradition that prepared him for the fight through preparing to meet his fate. Live or die, Robin was ready. He landed in a tucked roll and came to his feet immediately in the shadows, tensed for whatever was to come. What he wasn’t prepared for was a pile of dead bodies. The warehouse staff; part of a network of drug smugglers that Robin had expected to bust, were lying on top of each other, bloody holes in their bodies. Their faces were grimaces of shock and agony, curled in the last efforts of screaming their lives away. “Good evening to you stranger” said a voice from the shadows. “Who’s there” said Robin, dropping immediately into a crouch. “An interesting question, as we are not actually sure where here is.” The figures emerged from the shadows. There were at least ten of them and Robin saw that they all held bloody weapons and were dressed in ancient clothes. “The circus in town?” he said . The young man’s hand dropped to his side, preparing a smoke bomb. “Oh very droll. Very amusing.” Said the man dressed as a pirate of old, a huge filthy beard ringing his face. “No” said the other speaker, the taller and leaner of the two. “There is nothing droll about this situation. One moment I am enjoying dinner, the next I am this blue box and the next in this strange world. Kill him” This last was spoken to the silent men around him, warriors without a doubt and carrying an array of nasty looking weapons. The bearded man laughed and turned to the remaining men, “one hundred pounds for the man who brings me this insolent boy’s head” and the remaining pirates rushed forward with the warriors. He then turned to the taller man. “A wager Prince?” The Prince raised an elegant eyebrow. “As to who kills the boy?” “Indeed. I am not one to let the men have all the fun.” “By Wallachia, you have yourself a wager” said the Impaler, picking up a crossbow in one hand and an evil, curved sword in the other. Blackbeard’s laugh filled the room over the sounds of Robin’s fighting and, hoisting a massive blunderbuss and a cutlass, he joined the fight! ------------------------------------------------------ Robin VS Vlad the Impaler + 4 Wallachian soldiers & Blackbeard + 4 pirates Can Robin survive the night against this attack from history? You decide.
  7. Very good setup and interesting match-up. Whilst I think the Daleks would have the surprise element in terms of an all out attack, I do not think it would take long for the Corps to retaliate with a lot more power. However.... whilst they may win this initial war and force the Daleks/Master into retreat, I think that they will be back and with a plan that will crush Sinestro and his planet. So, It's Good and Sinestro wins the battle (then loses the war).
  8. Just throwing out ideas as they come here; It seems to me that we already have two classification types available in CBUB: The Genre (Comics, Anime, Toons, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Games and Pop Culture) The CBUB Contenders list composed of the win-loss ratio. Maybe instead of needing to go through the database and classify characters or assign “power points”, we could instead use these. So for example: Your team must be composed of 10 characters including 1 character from each Genre + 2 characters from any category. You only have a limited number of “character points” to use which is assigned by the win-loss ratio. So for a first timer you could have only 50 Character points. This means that you could have 10 characters of Nick Fury’s level (he currently is worth 5.0), but if you wanted World War Hulk (6.0 points) then you would need to make a sacrifice on other characters (pick ones with lower win-loss ratios). An advantage of this is that, if you choose a character with no fight history then he only counts for 1 point and you have more points to spend on others or even save them in reserve or something. Gives the unused characters more visibility as well. Then (again, forgive my lack of coding knowledge if this sounds over complicated) users automatically have their characters (or their teams) pitted against each other. You gain points based on how well your characters/team perform against the opponent with the number of votes difference being the decider: Greater than 10 votes: 5 points Greater than 5 votes: 3 points Greater than 1 vote: 1 point Tie: 0 points I’ll tell you what would be absolutely great would be to create a new Genre which was Weapons (Green Lantern Ring, Excalibur, BFG etc) which the users could then purchase with points and add to their team/characters.
  9. Ah ha, that's a good question. I deliberately didn't put in versions because I wanted to see what people would say. For the purpose of debate I would like to leave that open and see which versions people thinks would triumph over which.
  10. It's an old one but still a pretty good example of pure win:
  11. Probably my favourite: The Return of the Gods; Book 1 Prologue There is a legend, aeons old, that tells of the Single Tear. As the legend goes, upon the death of Christ upon his crucifix, God, our Lord and Saviour, shed one lonely tear. One sole sign of weakness as he saw his only son sacrificed for the good of mankind. That lonely epitome of sadness fell from his all-seeing eye and fell to Earth, hitting with the impact of a meteor yet so silently that no man ever saw it. It is said that God has searched for the tear but despite all his wisdom, has been unable to locate it. It is also said that whoever possesses this tear would have a single wish that even the Lord Almighty could not deny. ---------------------- Chapter 1 I cry every night as I think of them. My heart beats in my chest and my blood flows through my veins, but it feels like since that night, there is no life in this weary body. It hurts when I think about it, a pain that rips through my body worse than any physical wound could ever do. In a single night I lost everything. Everything that ever meant anything to me. That one night that ruined me forever. My name is Tristan Baron, and on that night under a cold winter's moon, I killed my wife and daughter. The words still echo in my head over and over and over again, gaining momentum and reaching a crescendo that thunders through every fibre of my being like a hurricane. The words were "Its fine honey, I've only had a couple." Only had a couple.... Its fine..... a couple. I had drank four drinks that night, not enough to feel drunk or even tipsy, but enough to loose control of the wheel and crash straight into an old elm tree at a particularly dangerous junction. CRUUUUNNNCCCCHH!!! That is what I remember. Not the screaming, not the pain of a broken arm, not even the blood that splattered over the windscreen; no, it was the CRUNCH of the front of my car as it sunk into the tree. It warped and rippled as if made of liquid, flattening and scrunching up into a broken husk and amazingly the first thought in my head was 'damn, this isn't going to be covered by the insurance'. As if in slow motion I had seen my wife's head lurch forward as if on puppet strings and slam into the windscreen, cracking like an egg. I had heard a scream from the back seat, cut prematurely short. And it was then that I had lost my mind. ----------------------- Chapter 2. I wouldn't call myself crazy, but I definitely wasn't like everyone else. I started seeing things, horrible things out of the corner of my eye that withered away the moment I tried to get a good look. Shadows would dance over the floor in front of me and it was only when I looked up that I realised there was nothing to cast them. I had managed to escape prison through a loophole in the system that stated that the dangerous junction was at fault rather than my boozy driving, but the guilt never left me. To be honest I would have rather gone to prison. At least then I could have avoided the funeral full of weary and admonishing stares. Then I lost my job. I had turned to drink during the months following the accident, and it had started to show in my dishevelled appearance and bleary eyes. I was a high ranking accountant for a large corporation and I think it was one of the members of my team that brought it to my CEO's attention. As per the usual with these large companies they didn't give me a good reason for firing me, instead talking about a "reshuffling of employees starting at management level", basically not wanting to risk the possibility of a law suit. The first thing that crossed my mind was that without a job, how was I going to keep buying alcohol? ---------------------------- Chapter 3 It was night time and I had just consumed the better part of a bottle of whisky when I felt the urge to go for a walk. Urges of any kind had been in short supply since the accident, but some compulsion drove me to escape my wallowing and breath in the fresh air. Grabbing the house keys I made my way to the local park. Luckily I lived in a nice area just outside town, so the park didn't have the usual connotations attached to it, and I happily observed that it was deserted. Deserted except for a shining light right at the centre of a shaded area. I silently approached the area, noting that the grass seemed to abruptly end in a circle of about a meter's diameter around the glowing object. It didn't shine brightly, more of luminous glow that pulsed gently with some sort of inner life. I had never seen anything like it. I slowly bent down to observe it and saw that it appeared to be a rock. Maybe a meteor fragment? Some radioactive element? Throwing caution out the window, for what did I have to live for anyway, I picked up the object. And that's when everything changed. ---------------------------- Chapter 4 I felt the power flow through me like an unstoppable tidal wave, drowning and numbing all feelings in a second. And I knew what the stone was. It was God's tear, the one sign of weakness that the All-mighty had ever shown, that one single fragment of His soul that held power over him. I knew that I could have anything I wanted. Anything I could possibly desire. Because I held the weakness of God, and he could not turn away from that. What had led me to that place at that time I would never know, nor why no one had ever found it before, but maybe it had been my fate all along. My destiny. So I made my wish. There was never any doubt as to what it would be. I knew my family was dead, killed by my own hand, and nothing would ever change that. A piece of me had died that night, and I wanted to know why. "From this day forth.." my voice was clear and determined as I held the Tear aloft and watched it glow brighter and brighter. "I want every man to be able to confront his God and hold him accountable!" ---------------------------- Chapter 5 Boy was that a mistake. All over the world the skies lit up as if on fire. Be it night or day, nothing would ever be the same again. For the Gods had returned. I felt rather than saw a great presence looming over me, looking down at me with a sadness beyond anything that I had ever felt. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!" said a voice that thundered and roared. And elsewhere it was the same. Around the Mediterranean the mighty Greek gods returned upon chariots of fire and reduced buildings to rubble under their giant feet. In Central Europe great forests sprung up from the ground and the ancient Celtic Gods hunted man as if he were game. Great blizzards of freezing snow struck across Northern Europe, as Odin and the Norse gods resumed their glorious battles, not caring if men and women died screaming in their wake. In Africa, the dynasties of the Pharaohs were reinstated as the Egyptian deities brought the dead back to life and ruled all with their power. In India the people fell to their knees as they saw their true master in the sky and Brahma smiled down benevolently on his children. Japan and China returned to their old ways, as old lineages paid tribute to their savage gods of thunder and lightning. South America became a horrific place of sacrifice and terrible rituals as the bloodthirsty Aztec gods reclaimed their territory. And in the United States, Satan and his demons fought angels in the sky as God watched on in horror as his Kingdom was torn apart by powers rivalling his own.... At first man tried to fight back, brining their devastating weapons to war, but when tanks were crushed under might fists, or their best fighter jets casually blown out of the sky by huge lightning bolts, they quickly submitted. Man could not confront his Gods and expect to live. ---------------------------- Chapter 6 After man submitted to the gods, the world quietened down. Earth was quickly divided amongst the Gods, each ruling his own territory and staying within his boundaries. But nothing stays the same. Soon the Gods, so much like their human counterparts in that respect, began to quarrel. Alliances were made and broken, factions created and within fifty years of my wish, the world went to war. God fought god in the sky and their human armies fought on the ground. Millions died within the first few days, and the world was turned red with blood. I walk alone amongst the chaos, Tristan Baron now a name of legend. The same power that brought the Gods to Earth made me completely invulnerable to their power or indeed death itself. I have not aged a day since, and nothing can harm me. I travel the world, trying my best to right what is wrong, but I am only one man and I can not be everywhere at once. In a world of blood and madness, I am justice. Currently I am in Miami, on the trail of a demon traitor who is said to have slaughtered an entire church. There is currently a war going on around me, but I do not meddle in those affair. I concentrate on humanity and leave the fighting to the soldiers and the gods. ---------------------------- SUMMARY As it stands I am in the Lord's territory which he shares with his angels and Satan, the Prince of Darkness who before the gods came to Earth, was as a god in his own right. The Lord, Jesus, Satan and his angels are defending their territory against an alliance composed of the Norse, Greek and Aztec gods who are invading from the South and East. Their troops are ready on the ground, fighting with their latest weaponry and equipment. But the real battle takes place in the sky, where God, Jesus, Satan (Mephisto) and a thousand angels prepare to do battle against the entire Greek, Norse and Aztec pantheon.
  12. Winner: Firestorm Suddenly behind the winner, having telepathically fooled everyone into thinking he had already been taken out of the fight, appears..... THE REAL WINNER BY GENERAL CONSENSUS: THE END
  13. - Agreed, villains would be out of the picture first and quickly if the heroes work together - The only problem with Sups is that, no matter how powerful he is (and indeed, pre reset he is powerful beyond belief) I cannot see his prep as equalling those that rely on it as their main power (e.g. Batman). Again, Martian Manhunter with intangibility and telepathy could hold his own against Wally, Superman and Wonderwoman at the same time (after reset). - Having reminded myself of some of Firestorm's high end feats, I'm still counting him as the most likely winner (close tie to MM).
  14. In that case I’m giving it to one of these three: - Firestorm – the ‘one to watch’ really but I see him as potentially the most powerful if he really cuts loose. I mean the dude has trapped Superman in a kryptonite bubble when he was younger and less powerful and has been shown to be able to nuke people. - Martian Manhunter for his power set and versatility - Deathstroke for his excellent use of prep and fighting skills that are superior to Bats It can really go any number of ways and depends entirely on who pairs against whom first. A few comments: - Superman is out pretty much immediately; someone (probably Batman) is bringing Kryptonite to this fight - Black Canary, Booster, Nightwing, Cyborg and Midnighter don’t have the skill or power set to stay long in the competition - Hal J and Sinestro are probably going to go for each other right at the start of this, the same for Zoom and Wally West, which makes all of them easy targets for other competitors - The reason I placed Martian Manhunter as one of my winners is because I see him as holding his own and more against Captain Marvel, Bizarro, Lobo and Wonder Woman - The truly unpredictable fighter here is Joker. I mean what is his “detailed file” going to say: ****Human Criminal; Absolutely Nuts**** His prep is probably going to involve building a giant clown robot/bomb filled with acidic kryptonite spaghetti. Would be interesting to see though.
  15. Just throwing an idea out there. I use a website called http://www.readitswapit.co.uk which basically allows people to exchange books with other users (all free of charge). You rate the exchange out of 5 stars and it offers you the chance to write a comment as well. The interesting idea here is that if you want to rate below 5 stars out of 5, you have to enter a comment explaining your rating. I think this would definitely work for CBUB, allowing good writers the opportunity to gain "points" quickly whilst eliminating the "It's bad" without justification. This could be done with visibility of the person casting the vote or not. Of course, I can imagine this would be a difficult task in terms of coding etc but the concept might be worthwhile considering.

    Movies

Saw Red Cliff the other day and it instantly went into my top 10 films of all time. Simply one of the most beautiful movies I've seen and the quality of the fight scenes is amazing. Think it is one of the most if not the most expensive Chinese films ever made. http://youtu.be/z3qIXQCHf94 P.S. I saw the international 2 and a half hour version but have since bought the full 4 hour original... will update you on how it is.
  17. I quite like the idea of loss being a theme. When the main character loses someone or something close to them it can lead to a lot of other ideas in the theme pool such as madness, revenge, action etc but the hurt caused by and reaction to the loss is at the centre of the story. The classic example of course would be Batman losing Alfred to an enemy (or even through the inaction of a friend).
