  1. I posted my Best of 2012 Anime list a few days ago. Go check it out. Everything on this list is something that started airing during the past year. http://mecha-guignol.com/2012/12/30/2012-a-year-where-anime-didnt-suck/
  2. This was announced sometime last summer, so... OLD! I'm kinda hyped for this. Less because it's Sailor Moon (although I dig it more than most long-running series), and more because it's a sign there's a trend of companies going back and remaking older stuff. In addition to Sailor Moon, we're currently getting a proper JoJo's Bizarre Adventure adaptation. I'm hoping we get a modern take on something like Ranma 1/2 or Dirty Pair or something like that.

    1. I'd rather have the physical copy for various reasons. I can't lend out a (legal) digital copy to a friend. Actually having the comic in my hands is an aesthetic preference. There's also the whole "digital shouldn't cost as much as physical" thing, but that's not as big of a deal for me as the previous two. 2. I'd rather see my $20-$30 a month go to the local comic store I like. If I didn't have a comic store whose employees were cool and all that, I might be more inclined to buy online. If I could get the latest issue of one of the comics I read for about half retail on something like Comixology, things MIGHT be different, but I'd probably still stick with buying them at the comic store. Or maybe there could be some sort of subscription service. Pay so much a month and get digital access to the entire company's releases for that month or something. It'd have to be on par with an MMO or something-- maybe $20 a month tops-- in order to seem reasonable. Doubt that price point'll ever happen.

This week's episode wasn't all that good either. I did enjoy the mass murder at the end of the episode, though.

The new James Bond has a lot of neat ideas, then it starts to wallow in abandonment issues and ends everything with an action scene that has nothing to do with Bond and everything to do with Michael Bay's interpretation of Home Alone.

Watched the season premiere. It sucked.

The past few weeks in movies: Argo: Awesome Cloud Atlas: Interesting mess, but not all that good Silent Hill: Revelations: Mediocre The Man with the Iron Fists: Pretty solid, blogged it here: http://mecha-guignol.com/2012/11/03/the-main-with-the-iron-fists/ Wreck-It Ralph: Mostly sucked, also blogged it: http://mecha-guignol.com/2012/11/05/vanellope-von-akuma/
  9. http://mecha-guignol.com/2012/10/30/disney-bought-star-wars-good/ This is a good thing.
  10. http://mecha-guignol.com/anime-i-hate/ Some people who read my blog have been asking me to do a "what anime I hate" list. I finally got around to it. I'm sure there's something on this list most of you like.
  11. This is the same thing they've been doing with other old fighting games. They re-released Street Fighter 3 Third Strike with online play for the 360 and PS3. They did a rebalanced Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo a few years ago, also with online play. They're letting us play these old games many of us still like online. This is a good thing. And the teaser you linked to says nothing about it being a promo for this Darkstalkers 3 release. Shoryuken's saying it's a teaser for a legitimate new Darkstalkers game. http://shoryuken.com...omic-con-panel/

Taken 2 was pretty mediocre. I liked that the daughter got a chance to be the hero. I liked the idea of the relatives of the guys Neeson killed in the first one wanted revenge and were well aware of their relatives' actions. "This guy was scum, but he was still my son" basically. As far as "sequel for a movie that shouldn't have a sequel" goes, the ideas behind it were perfectly fine. But the action scenes were lousy. That's no different from the first movie, since they were pretty meh then too, but they lacked the oomph of the first one. Too many generic gun fights and not enough Liam torturing some bastard to get information. Everything was centered around Istanbul, so the scope wasn't quite as broad as the first movie. That made everything feel way too small, but not in a claustrophobic or intimate way. Just kinda cheap. And the villains didn't have the same sense of escalation as the first movie. The first one started with the ground level kidnappers, and Neeson had to work his way up the distribution channels until he found the guys who bought his daughter. In this one he's just taking on a small group of revenge-seekers. It's a big step down in scale, just like the setting is another step down. It's perfectly watchable, but it almost seems like they went out of their way to make it a lesser thing in every possible way.

Only thing I've found on their website is this: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/09/30-days-away-from-season-3-announcement.html It says the new season will be announced in "less than 30 days." Since the article went up on September 20th, all that means is that we'll know when the new season starts by October 20th. So we still aren't sure when the new season actually starts.

Where did you hear that date? I've been trying to see where it was announced and have yet to find it.

I might take that seriously if you actually said why. Otherwise, "overrated" is the most meaningless buzz word someone can toss at something.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is getting a one week IMAX run right now. Go see it. Doesn't matter if you've already seen the movie on TV or DVD or whatever, it just isn't the same as seeing it on a movie screen. I plan on seeing it later this week.
  19. It's Danny Choo spouting that, so it's instantly unreliable info at best.

Today is the Street Fighter franchise's 25th anniversary, so I did a blog post talking about when I first came across Street Fighter 2. http://mecha-guignol.com/2012/08/30/street-fighter-is-25/
  23. No more ultra-serious Batman movies. The Nolan movies work for the most part. They did their thing. They wanted to be brooding, angsty Batman and they were good. Enough of that. We don't need more of that. We don't need the faux-edgy Arkham Asylum/City Batman in a movie. We don't need more Frank Miller wannabes. Batman can be so much more than that. He can be fun. We don't have to make the full swing over to campy 60s Batman, but the next iteration needs to drift away from the notion that the only acceptable Batman is DARK. Word is that the Justice League movie will be the initial step in rebooting Batman. Introduce him there and then make movies based on that interpretation. Hopefully they'll be forced to lead him down a less grim path if he's teamed up with other characters who aren't so infused with that tone, and that'll carry over into whatever Batman movies come out after the fact. Also: NO *vulgarity*ING ORIGIN STORIES PLEASE.
  24. Bleach ain't bad for the first... 20 episodes or so. Those episodes have a core cast of characters who play off of each other well. Then they move to the Soul Society and it tosses those cool characters (other than Ichigo, the least interesting of the group) aside for a bunch of lame characters with no personalities who wear the same outfit and can only be differentiated by their hair styles and swords. With that switch it turns into everything that sucks about Shounen Jump series.
  25. There's also a JoJo's anime starting in October. Proper TV series and everything that'll likely last awhile.
