Street Fighter 6 will most likely be on the PS5, as will most other new iterations of the fighting games I buy, play for a day, then pretend I actually play regularly, so I'll be getting one.
  2. This is a pretty good way to tackle a LOT of things about the site in general. Like, I had no problem using fanart for FPL pics back in the day, but nowadays I'd never just take someone's art-- especially something made by a fan-- and say "this pic represents my character, this is what they look like." Unless, you know, I had permission to do so. I shouldn't have done it in the past, but I'm more aware now.

Wrote a blog post about this summer's movies. I'm sure y'all will hate my rankings: http://mecha-guignol.com/2013/08/28/summer-movie-roundup-2013-flavored/

If Snyder's idea for Superman consists of him disregarding people in harm's way and snapping the necks of villains, his Batman will probably sit on the top floor of the Wayne Enterprises skyscraper and shoot jaywalkers with a sniper rifle.

Keaton is still the most interesting movie Bruce Wayne/Batman. He's just as much of a freak as the villains he faces, especially in Returns. Kimler and Clooney didn't get a chance to do anything worthwhile because their respective movies were so godawful. Bale was OK, but his Batman voice was *vulgarity*ing stupid. None of the Nolan movies were interesting due to his portrayal of the character, though. Begins is watchable only because of Scarecrow and Ras, Dark Knight is all about Joker, and Rises is good due to the operatic ridiculousness of everything. Considering how bad Man of Steel (and every other Zach Snyder movie) was, I have a feeling Affleck's gonna be tossed into the same camp as Kimler and Clooney. I just can't see Snyder and everyone else responsible for Man of Steel making a good Batman/Superman movie.

A bunch of stuff happens in the movie. Then Wolverine gets shot in the head and he forgets all of it. We spent two hours watching a kinda crappy movie, only for the movie to tell us none of it mattered. That alone makes the movie completely worthless. It's a meaningless, insignificant movie that TELLS US it's meaningless and insignificant. Thankfully the newest Wolverine movie chose to ignore Origins' existence. I can handle X3 still being relevant. It's also a pretty bad movie, but the new movie expanded on its events about as well as you could expect.
  7. I heard the CBUB didn't do well enough in the overseas markets, so there won't be a sequel. Can't make a sequel nowadays without hitting it big in China.

If the only complains people have about The Wolverine are nitpicky fanboyish things, that's a pretty good sign that it's a genuinely good movie. And it is. Saw it the other night. Didn't care for the big finale. Up until that point, it wasn't falling into the usual comic book movie traps. It was more of a character drama thing that just happened to have a pretty awesome fight on the top of a bullet train. But the whole robot thing and the reveals in the final fight were kinda lame. It feels like something tacked on by some studio exec who thinks all comic book movies have to end with BIG ROBOT EXPLOSIONS. But it's still a pretty good movie despite that. Also saw Only God Forgives. Best movie I've seen all year.
  9. Kinda. Whatever the FPL ends up doing, there'd be plenty of room for a Fight section of the board, and there'd naturally be a pop culture/general discussion area. It wouldn't be as elaborate as the Ferret, but it'd be open. At the same time, some people in the CBUB are eager to have their own site under their control, and that's cool. In all honesty, that's probably a good thing that they set up shop on their own. They'll be in control, and there's no need to listen to us old types whine about them. But yeah, I DO think people are too eager to rush into something new before standing back and thinking things through a bit, but I AM in favor of the CBUB kids having their own place for them to do as they see fit.
  10. Yeah, I think that's the best way to do it. There's some crossover between the two sections, but not that much. Also, while we still haven't decided what's up with the FPL side of things, the CBUBers seem to be moving pretty quickly with setting up a new board. No need to bog y'all down while we move at our usual glacial pace.
  11. The thing Pey's doing would probably work just fine as a CBUB replacement. No need to transplant the FPL there. We're working on stuff that'll replace that.

Red 2 was eh. The action scenes were a little better this time around, but the humor wasn't quite as good. The editing/scene transitions and soundtrack had a direct-to-DVD quality to them that made everything feel really cheap. It's an alright movie. One of the better ones from this summer, but that isn't saying much. This hasn't been a good summer movie-wise.

    Comic Books

The issue was a bit rushed overall, but the way the latest issue of X-Factor resolves the whole Longshot/Shatterstar thing was kinda perfect.

Did a blog review thing on Pacific Rim. The short of it: I liked it. http://mecha-guignol.com/2013/07/13/pacific-rim/
  15. I don't troll. I just express opinions that stray from the fanboy hivemind collective.
  16. Teen Titans Go > Teen Titans, Young Justice, Green Lantern, and all of the DC direct to DVD movies It's also better than Man of Steel, the Green Lantern movie, Batman Begins, The DC Nu52, and the original Watchmen comic book. But it isn't as good as the Batman: Brave and the Bold cartoon. That was awesome.
  17. Yeah, I hear Phineas and Ferb are gonna be the dudes who defeat Thanos in the upcoming Infinity miniseries. Also, they announced that it'll be them instead of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Avengers 2. Marvel is totally ruined forever and ever.
  18. This is why I'll never buy or build a gaming PC. Fighting games rarely get PC releases, and when they do they're usually inferior products.
  19. All I want is a machine that lets me play the handful of video games that still interest me, and I want said machine at a reasonable price. I'll get a PS4 eventually, once there are enough games I want and once the price has dropped after a couple of years. Until then, the PS3 will suffice. The only way I'd jump on it any earlier is if a new iteration of Street Fighter comes out soon and is only available on a new system.

This is the End was alright. Too much generic stoner humor, not enough Apocalypse.

I didn't hate Man of Steel. I loved the Krypton bit at the beginning of the movie. I hate origin stories, but they did a decent job of retelling Superman's origin. I also liked the Smallville fight scene. It did a pretty good job depicting the way Superman and other Kryptonians would fight. None of the human characters were given anything to do other than Costner. Amy Adams as Lois Lane was totally wasted in this movie. What I DID hate was the ending. The whole terraforming thing was pretty stupid, and it all gets resolved with yet another tedious city destruction scene and a bunch of explosions. Yawn. As for Superman killing Zod, I can buy that THIS Superman would be willing to kill as an act of desperation. Most depictions of Superman really hammer in the fact that killing is a line that he'll NEVER cross, but the way he's depicted here made me feel he's flawed enough to cross that line. What I didn't buy was that the situation he was in was one where that line needed to be crossed. Nothing in the context of that scene made be believe there was nothing he could do but snap Zod's neck. Neither Superman nor Zod seemed so beaten down and worn out that they couldn't keep on flying around and stuff. That situation played out more like lazy writing to end the movie on a HARD and VIOLENT way rather than Superman doing something for the greater good. So between the awful ending and a ton of characters given nothing to do, I didn't really care for the movie as a whole.

Obnoxious fans scream and bitch and moan, and it's only their opinion on Superman Returns that ever gets heard. I kinda dig it.

Everything else is your opinion. I totally disagree, but that's cool. But what does this mean? Seriously, that makes no sense.
  24. I'm happy Young Justice and Green Lantern got canceled in favor of Teen Titans Go. #fanboyheresy

Spoilerific Anti-Into-Darkness Rant Into Darkness wasn't a Star Trek movie. It wasn't a Star Wars movie. It was desperately trying to be The Dark Knight and completely failed. It takes the basic concept behind old school Khan and dresses it up in the same terrorism guise The Joker was given in The Dark Knight. It even follows the same general plot points: Heroes go after villain, capture him, but he WANTED to be captured to really execute his "bring down the system" plan. Then there's the misguided callbacks to Wrath of Khan, with the Kirk and Spock roles swapped. Oh yeah, and Spock running down the streets of San Francisco, which is the absolute worst visual cue you can expect from a JJ Abrams movie. And then a starship crashes into the same city, but during the aftermath there's no signs that thousands of people JUST DIED. The rest of the final conflict takes place in a city clear of panicking people and emergency vehicles. Instead San Francisco looks like a budget knockoff of the Coruscant scenes from the Wars prequels. Barf Barf Barf. Outside of the admittedly awesome opening sequence, which actually felt like something from a STAR TREK MOVIE, this was awful sci-fi, awful action, and awful film-making. It's trying to be a bunch of previously successful things and falling flat. Barf again.
