  1. Heat Miser is going to do a better job protecting The Leprechaun's gold and/or seeking revenge, than The Leprechaun is at controlling global heat/weather. Heat Miser being an ex-villain who has sought revenge before. Also makes him better suited to take The Leprechaun's place, than the other way around.
  2. Except he doesn't know how and is scared of 1/3 of this challenge. Jordan not only doesn't swim, but is scared of it and has emotional trauma tied up in the idea of it. Even if he is faster on the ground than Balrog, which is a big if, he is still going to be unable/unwilling to complete 1 of the 3 stages of this competition. That is not a winning formula here, maybe if he was facing another person with a phobia of swimming, like day Bruce Lee, but Balrog has no know issue with water.
  3. I assumed the idea was throwing top tier athletes into sports/scenarios that aren't their own game. If we assume training. These scenarios lose that edge, but also we are stuck, discussing not what these characters can do, but what they may be able to do with the right training. It's also a weird angle because it hasn't come up before. Nobody suggested, we give Jordan time to train to fight Black Widow, nor did anybody, yourself included, seemingly give Bruce Lee time to train for this very same problem.
  4. I don't know that we ever see Balrog specifically swim, but most humans are capable of some locomotion in the water and Balrog, unlikely Jordan, doesn't have a noted fear, phobia, or inability to do so. I'm not sure the scenario provides for time to train. It asks who would win as we know them, not who could be the best after training. It's seems like time to train has to many what if in it and asks not who the character is, but who they might be under the right circumstances. You don't become a dominant heavyweight champ without a fair amount of endurance and stamina.
  5. Except two different definitions have been provided. One broader, one more narrow. One that allows for funding in moneyless economic models and one that doesn't. You are basically saying that funding something would be impossible in a barter economy, even if you invested time and resources. The Borg and Starfleet are capable of time travel, they've developed multiple ways to do so over time. Seven no doubt has the plans for Synths and other androids/robot, force fields, sensors, rocket boots etc are all things we've seen in Star Trek.
  6. You, I went for a broad definition, you are going for a very narrow one. Presenting this sort of proposal is as much about the presentation as about what is being proposed. One of the biggest things is gonna be who can grab the attention of the audience more and sorry Seven is gonna attract more attention from a bunch of rich tech bros, for both appearance and personality. Remember Seven is an attractive intelligent woman, who at this point actually pursues proper human interaction, though is still a bit quirky, just the kinda person to hit big with old school nerds and companies wanting to do business with women in STEM fields. Doom is an angry arrogant violent asshole, wearing armor, not somebody most folks would wanna do business with. And again, anybody looking at these twos backing organizations/origins is gonna be trepidatious at best about backing Doom. Who again runs a warmongering isolationist state. Any research funded runs the risk of being used against the investors. Doing business with the Federation is a lot safer option, than doing business with Latvaria. Also as a bit of push back, what tech does Vicky Von Doom have that is better than what Seven of Nine has access to?
  7. And Starfleet have had to negotiate for materials before Here is what funding is,.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funding I have already discussed other parts of this match. You've simply latched on to your own semantic interpretation of part of what I said. For the record what we've been discussing covers not only whether the contestants would literally engage with the challenge, but also gives us an idea of how well they could if they chose to. As the person who has more experience with and is more comfortable with asking for help, will do it better when required to do so. So even if we assume Doom, begrudgingly commits, he is not going to be able to do so as well as Seven.
  8. Seven operates outside the normal system of Federation funding both on her own and as part of the Voyager crew. Their are also times that the Federation has negotiated terms for specific materials. The prompt says funding, not what form that funding comes in. Also being more function over form oriented than Doom and having grown to see the value in cooperation. Asking for help, even if it's not entirely needed. Is something Seven is more likely to do them Victor. Winning the match and going home, holds more value to Seven than it does to Doom. He is gonna be way more caught up in his own feelings about having to ask for help etc.
  9. Maybe, but he'd just as likely not even see the competition as worth his time and again having to ask for help would bruise his pride, probably even more so then winning would boost it.
  10. Semantics of my word choice aside. Doom doesn't ask, nor would he be comfortable or good at asking for help. At most he'd show up and make demands. Seven has actually negotiated before, fairly routinely asks for help/advice, and has learned to work in groups. On top of being, while sometimes awkward and arrogant. Still a a pragmatist. She seems efficiency, Doom is out to stroke his own ego.
  11. In the literal sense perhaps, but I'm not sure we have to assume he does any more than show up. We have examples of similar things coming up in other matches. The fact that Conan had never ridden a bike was held against him in a triathlon match, it was assumed Bruce Lee wouldn't swim in another. Because these are things that the contestant either showed no ability to do or showed an inability/aversion to doing. Similarly Doom doesn't grovel or pander. So I'm not sure we should treat it any different from the other examples.
  12. On second thought, would Doom even be able to bring himself, to ask for help. I'm not sure his ego and pride would allow him to even try this.
  13. Nerds are gonna pay attention to Seven. Voyagers viewership skyrocketing after her introduction proves that. Doom is also the absolute dictator of an aggressive isolationist country, so funding his research, might be akin to funding terrorism or a country like North Korea, which is gonna be a turn off to investors. Who probably don't want their money to be used to make weapons, that end up being used on them. Seven on the other hand is either a free agent or a representative of a multi-national peaceful government, that pursues peaceful coexistence and working toward mutual goals. So even if Doom could put on a more attractive show, which he can't, funding Seven's research is the safer, better option for most investors.
  14. This seems like it should favor the Fanboys, but I'm not so sure. The Red Shirts have access to Federation fabrication systems. So there gear and costumes are gonna be better. They are gonna be better trained, which is useful even in a simulated battle. In fact that's the major problem with the costuming part solved for them, this is basically a training mission, a live action battle simulation between a trained and cohesive military force and untrained group of civilians, that may or may not get along.
  15. It doesn't have to be one or the other. There have been periods/comic runs, where Cap has the Super Soldier Serum removed, and was able to achieve the same physical results through working out.
  16. Dr. Doom, is arrogant and pompous, I'm not sure he'd know how to ask for help. His appearance isn't particularly inviting either. Seven on the other hand actually has a long history of wheeling and dealing to aquire tech and supplies from here time on Voyager. Also, when she became part of the main cast Voyager ( as in the show itself ) saw a massive jump in viewship and profitablity. Seven can attract attention and negotiate/ask for help when needed. Doom is a Holier than though, psycho in a metal mask.
  17. This is Bruce Lee all over again Jordan doesn't swim https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/news-four-time-nba-champ-says-michael-jordan-never-learned-swim-due-traumatic-incident-that-s-thing-do https://www.wenatcheeworld.com/arena/basketball_network/i-cannot-swim-michael-jordan-was-ready-to-play-golf-with-michael-phelps-but-was/article_9705b004-5fd7-5086-9cb8-bc7ca95ac4d7.html
  18. Not really, some versions of the Wolf are referred to as a werewolf, not to mention maybe tracing it's roots to wolf spirits/deities. Even ignoring that an amalgamated public domain Big Bad Wolf. Would be capable of swallowing people whole and carrying multiple people inside it with little issue, being fine after being cut open and sowed back up, blowing wooden structures down, etc. In other words the Big Bad Wolf, is superhumanly strong and tough, as well as being some level of reality warper, or at least having a stomach that's bigger on the inside/is a pocket dimension. If Gaston isn't focused he's liable to get swallowed whole.
  19. Yeah jokes aside Gaston is a physical powerhouse. Besides the strength feat you mentioned. He also snapped a belt with his neck, can easily chew threw leather, spit with a fair amount of force, can fight a room full of guys, and some how fire a blunderbuss accurately with a rate of fire, comparable to a semi auto.
  20. Gaston gets distracted looking at himself in the mirrors and ends up wolf chow.
  21. You're right, Mikey should've stomped her. 🙂
  22. Bossk hunts Wookies for sport, trained Boba Fett, and can fight Jedi. I think he can take out a lemur.
  23. The pic being used in the set up is from a down hill race in Germany. Downhill Balrog's weight is going to be an advantage. He is also going to react quicker to the starting "bell" given that we see him dodge energy and sonic attacks. Balrog is also known for his fast blitzing attacks, so I'm not sure Jordan is faster on his feet. In fact given that Balrog is regular able to cross distance and land blows on opponents that dodge lightning etc. I'd say over short distances he is faster than MJ. So Balrog is gonna have the initial edge based on reaction and sprinting speed and gravity and weight should help him maintain said edge. Balrog is also not of brutality and cheating to win.
  24. Boromir is still human, sure a very skilled and tough human. Who was killing orcs-kin in waves. Where as Worf a top tier warrior from a species of superhuman warriors was struggling one on one with Jem'Hadar, in the example you've given. What does the ring amp. Also their is no evidence of a ring amp in the film. Also you glossed over that Merry and Pip, were also killing Uruk-Hai.
  25. Interesting, the one I can find has light load at 33 for StR 10 and 86 for STR 17, but different edition have given different values.
