  1. How doeseth thou define thy worth? Is it through displays of strength? Accumulation of wealth? Land? The breadth of one's knowledge? I was told recently that the answer lies within the affection of others. Doeseth that not reduce the complexity of life to a mere contest of popularity? All of this endless thought was put upon me by a denouncement of my worth by another. I, Prince Hamlet of Denmark, iconic literary character of great renown, have been called many names before but never worthless and forgettable. I am aware of the current pitiful state of written prose, its prominence scaled back and in some places made obsolete. Book stores battle for their very existence. The art form that birthed me hath been driven into the ground to make room for bastardized vessels of entertainment. Frivolities such as television and film, which methinks were devised for the illiterate and the impatient or due to a lack of competent actors for a proper play. Though in full disclosure I must admit, anytime I gaze upon my visage on the big screen it elicits joy in my heart. My true enemy is the wretched intrusion of video games. An overabundant mix of noise and flash that possess no positive value. They enslave the youth and strip away precious moments of their life. Surely, the Bard turns over in his grave with each release. Many a night have I pondered over the esteemed position of video games in society. I have yet to reach a satisfactory conclusion. These may seem the ramblings of a bitter man, in truth it is just the reality I now navigate. Which leadeth me back to my present challenge, being called worthless because I am no longer deemed relevant except for in theatre companies and literature exams. Could such a horrific thought be true? Should I giveth credence to such slander? Determined am I not to be paralyzed by indecision again so I have devised a plan to rid myself of this ridicule that haunts me. I shall taketh the fight directly to mine enemy. However, the battle I shall partake in will not involve blades nor poison for I no longer fight for domain of a country but for the hearts and minds of a generation. The validation I crave lies in the world that seeks my extinction, the world of video games. If I can gain affection there, in a plane of existence so foreign to my own, surely all proclamations of my demise in the national conscious shall prove false. My target's name is Ophelia from the game, Brutal Legend. She symbolizes all those now who shun me. I will seduce her and earn her love just to show that I can. Firstly, I will admit to indulgence in simple thrills. Sharing the name of my former beloved was irresistible to me. She has a look many describe as "goth", wherefore with the dual wielded swords she carries and large protruding spikes she doth adorn on her belt, she remindeth me of a classical gladiator. Her world is a living, breathing testament to all I despise about her platform. It is filled with grotesque creatures and macabre violence. Worse yet everywhere a man wonders his ears are infected with the most horrid sounds imaginable, heavy metal. It makes me question my motivations for traveling here and even my sanity. With all of that, there is a vulnerability to Ophelia that utterly charms me. She recently helped free humanity on her world from some horrific sounding demons named the Tainted Coil. The new found peace unnerves her a little. Methinks it is my tortured demeanor that sparks interest in Ophelia and causes her to acquiesce to my date proposal. As we walk together, despite the dreadful appearance of my surroundings, I feel safe with her. She giveth me an inquisitive look and speaks. "Are you doing an internal monologue?" "No," I reply. The battle for her heart now begins.
  2. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XVIII Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. With a few other rescue missions just beginning in effort to help the gargoyles who had been defeated by Batman's enemies, one had recently finished and was a success. Macbeth dropped the unconscious and bound body of Man-Bat in front of the Gotham Police Department. He returned to his glider and his badly injured friend, Brooklyn. "I would suggest a hospital," said Macbeth. "But with your monstrous appearance I don't think we would receive much help. Especially with all the recent insanity that has been going on in this city." "All I need is a day full of stone sleep and I will be fine. You know that," said Brooklyn. "Back to Wayne Manor it is then," Macbeth decided. They boarded the glider and Brooklyn leaned on Macbeth for support. A few miles into their journey, the left wing of the glider suddenly exploded. "Arrgggh! Hold on!" shouted Macbeth. Macbeth and Brooklyn jumped off the glider before it crashed into a large container in a shipping yard. At the scene of the original explosion, a burly man put down a grenade launcher and smiled. "I got him!" he exclaimed. "You moron!" screamed his boss, the puppet, Scarface. "I told you we were hunting gargoyles not gliders!" "But Scarface, I saw one of them on the glider, I swear," insisted the burly man. "I saw it too. It was with the old man," confirmed another thug with binoculars. "Well then what are you guys waiting for? Let's go get 'em!" Scarface ordered. "Gargoyles have been spotted all over this town tonight. One even took out Harvey Dent's entire operation. If I can capture one, the other crime bosses will be forced to admit my superiority. Dead or alive, I want that gargoyle!" In the shipping yard, Macbeth gently leaned Brooklyn against one of the smaller containers. "What hit us?" asked Brooklyn. "I don't know. This city is full of surprises," answered Macbeth. "Are you hurt?" Brooklyn inquired. "Some scratches and bruises. Nothing too serious. Although the trip back to the Manor just became a lot more complicated." Arnold Wesker, Scarface, and eight henchmen entered the shipping yard. It was the largest of its kind in Gotham with numerous containers scattered throughout. They went to the crash site, but found nothing there except the remains of the glider. "Everyone split up!" ordered Scarface. After checking a few of the containers Scarface called out, "Old man! I know you're here somewhere. Let me have the gargoyle and I will let you live." Macbeth looked down at Brooklyn. "I guess that answers the question as to our attackers." "What are you worried about. They can't kill you." "No. But getting shot still hurts.. a lot. You're in no condition to defend yourself and I won't be much help if I'm riddled with bullets," said Macbeth. A weak smile appeared on Brooklyn's face. "You're a good man, Macbeth." "Let's save the sentimental talk for after we get out of here... if we get out of here." Macbeth readied his lightning gun as he tried to formulate a plan.
  3. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XVII Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. Even with an epic mystical battle between Zatanna and the Weird Sisters going on around them in the Bat Cave, the trio of Xanatos, Lexington, and Alfred huddled together to continue their efforts in directing their allies to victory over the many villains now running amok in Gotham City. "Ok now that you have misdirected Broadway to another battle, we still need to find someone to help out Angela," said Lexington. "Coldstone, perhaps," suggested Alfred. "That was my thought as well," said Xanatos. "With his arsenal, Ivy's plants should pose little threat. I also doubt that her pheromones would have much effect on a cyborg gargoyle." The three agreed on Coldstone. Xanatos changed the channel on his headset and spoke. "Coldstone, I have your next mission." "I'm listening," Coldstone replied. "We have lost contact with Angela. We fear that she may have been defeated by her target, Poison Ivy. We need you to go get Angela back and take down Ivy. She is a tricky one. She can control plants to act on her behalf and she is known to use various toxins as well. When Alfred last had contact with Angela, she had tracked Ivy down to a greenhouse in the southern part of Gotham." "Understood," responded Coldstone. After receiving the coordinates from Xanatos, Coldstone traveled to the greenhouse. He entered cautiously. After a few steps in, vines wrapped around his ankles. He shot at them instantly with his forearm laser cannon. The vines shriveled and slithered away. Coldstone suddenly heard the voice of a lady. "Why must you all insist on hurting my babies?" The villain, Poision Ivy, appeared before him. Coldstone aimed his laser cannon directly at her. "Where is Angela?" "Angela? Is that the name of the winged beast who stormed in here earlier. It took quite a lot of toxin to subdue her." answered Ivy. "I'll ask one more time," Coldstone said tersely. "Where is she?" Ivy lowered her eyes and vines grew around her. "I can take anything you can dish out, plant woman!" said Coldstone. Ivy's expression relaxed again. "That may be, but I don't intend on fighting you." Poison Ivy was joined by a short man in a top hat on her right and Angela on her left. The sight caught Coldstone off guard. "You see every time we have been set free from Arkham, Batman pursues us like his wayward children and sends us back. The cycle has gotten old and stale. So this time I decided to make a plan if I was set free again, to build an army. Of course I needed an accomplice. My old friend, Jervis Techt." Ivy rubbed her finger under the Mad Hatter's chin. His dazed expression gave the impression that he was under the effects of her pheromones. "With his technology at our disposal, recruitment would be easy. I certainly wasn't expecting to be targeted by gargoyles, but she should make a fine soldier." Coldstone noticed the mechanical headband on Angela. "Take it off of her!" he demanded. "Or you'll do what?" replied Jervis. "You can blow up the head band with your nifty forearm cannon, but that would require shooting a laser at your friend's head. And if you damage it with your claws, there is a needle that would spurt lethal toxin directly into her brain." "How about I just blast you instead," said Coldstone. Coldstone aimed his laser cannon at the Mad Hatter. Angela suddenly attacked Coldstone and knocked him to the ground. Coldstone gazed up at her. "Angela, please, I can help you. You don't know what you are doing." "I'm protecting my master," she replied. "You are the daughter of my rookery brother, I don't want to hurt you," Coldstone pleaded. Angela scratched at Coldstone. "That makes it easier for me, because I really want to hurt you." As they watched the mayhem unfold, Ivy whisperd to Jervis, "I think we should depart before any more gargoyles arrive. Tell Angela we will contact her after she's done with this winged swiss army knife. If he is not too heavily damaged, he will make a fine recruit as well."
  4. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XVI Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. With some urging from Xanatos and Lexington, Alfred peeked over Batman's computer to catch a glimpse of the battle between Zatanna and the Weird Sisters in the Bat Cave. "Is Zatanna winning?" asked Xanatos. "It's hard to tell. It just looks like a bunch of carnage to be honest," replied Alfred. Alfred ducked again as an errant burst of magical energy was shot in his direction. "I hate hiding," said Xanatos, "We should find some iron and help Zatanna out. She is, after all, standing up for us." "Give her some time," Alfred assured. "We would probably be more of a hindrance than an asset to Miss Zatanna. Besides, there are many lives that are depending on us right now to lead them through. No need to risk our lives before the time comes." "You"˜re right of course, Alfred," said Xanatos. "Hold on, you guys, I'm picking something up," said Lexington. He tapped on the headset a few times. "It's Broadway. He wants to know how Angela is doing?" Xanatos glanced over at Alfred. "I don't believe we have heard from her since she tracked down Poison Ivy to that greenhouse." Alfred slowly shook his head. "No. And with all the time that has passed since then, I fear that she may have succumbed to the savvy offensive repertoire of Poison Ivy." "A logical conclusion," Xanatos agreed. "Lex, what are they saying?" Broadway asked. "Angela is in trouble isn't she?" "Hold on a minute," Lexington answered. "Tell them to tell me where she is. I'll find her!" said Broadway. Lexington looked at Xanatos. "He wants to go after her." "No, I don't think that would be a wise move," Xanatos countered. "If Ivy does have Angela in a compromising position I don't think Broadway would be the best candidate to rescue her. There is no telling what condition Angela is in and given their strong intimate connection, the emotional response it would bring about in Broadway could severely cripple his chances in defeating Ivy. Or worse, he might do something he would regret later." Lexington nodded. "Don't worry big guy, we'll save her," he said to Broadway. "They don't want me to know where she is?" Broadway asked angrily. "He just wants to do what is best. But, we will save her," Lexington insisted. "Let me talk to him!" Broadway demanded. Lexington handed the headset over to Xanatos. Xanatos took a deep breath before he spoke. "Hello Broadway." "Listen here, Xanatos, I don't know what your angle is here and I don't care. Put yourself in my position. Would you listen if someone told you not to pursue Fox when you knew she was in danger?" "No," answered Xanatos. "Then tell me where she is. I'm going to go after her, with or without your help. So please just tell me," Broadway pleaded. "Very well," Xanatos paused for a moment. "We sent her after a villain named Killer Moth, Cheraxes, who is essentially a giant moth. He can fly, has sharp claws, and makes cocoons with his mucus. We had tracked him down to the Gotham City Museum where he was terrorizing citizens. That is where we sent Angela." "I'm on my way there now," said Broadway. "You lied to him," Lexington scolded. "He doesn't know that. When we gave Angela her mission, Broadway had already left to battle Blockbuster. I stand by my earlier statement. Sending Broadway after Poison Ivy would be a bad idea. And don't misunderstand, the threat of Killer Moth is very real. We needed to deal with him eventually. I trust that when he encounters the villain, Broadway's instinct to protect will take over. He can deal with whatever residual anger he has toward me later."
  5. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XV Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. As the magical battle between Zatanna and the Weird Sisters raged on, Xanatos, Alfred, and Lexington took cover behind Batman's computer. The three huddled closely together. "If these ladies destroy the Bat Cave, Master Bruce will not be pleased," said Alfred. "I'll tell you what, Alfred. If we get through tonight's events, you can tell Bruce to put it on my tab," Xanatos responded. "None of that matters," said Lexington. "If the Weird Sisters were right, then we need to help Hudson before it's too late." "Of course, Lexington." Xanatos turned toward Batman's butler. "Alfred, do we have any updates on any of the other missions?" "Yes, Coldstone has reported that he was successful in taking down the assassin, Deadshot, and Talon reported the capture of Two-Face," replied Alfred. "Maybe we should send Coldstone to rescue Hudson and defeat Clayface," Lexington suggested. "He should have the firepower to take him down." Xanatos thought it over briefly. "That is true, but the key to taking down Clayface is water. It might not be a good idea for Coldstone's cybernetic make-up to be involved in that strategy. Talon, however, was mutated, along with many other strands of DNA, with the DNA of an electric eel, so he would have no such weakness." "Agreed." "May I?" asked Lexington. "Certainly." Alfred handed the headset over to the small gargoyle. A magical blast sent a table flying over their heads and smashed into the wall. Alfred frowned. "Come in, Talon, come in, Talon," Lexington said into the headset. "What's up, Lex?" replied Talon. "Congratulations on beating Two-Face." "Thanks. Xanatos was right, getting to him was tougher than I thought it would be, but I got the job done," said Talon. "Is everything alright over there, it sounds like you are in the middle of a war zone?" "It's a long story, we need your help with something else." "Sure. Is it another target?" "It's Hudson. We think he lost his battle and he might need a rescue," explained Lexington. "Oh no. He was going after that guy made of clay, right?" "Yeah, Clayface. Last word we got from Hudson was he was about to confront Clayface by the Gotham City Library on 5th Avenue." "Don't forget to tell him about Clayface's weakness against water," Xanatos interjected. Lexington nodded and relayed the message to Talon. "Don't worry, Lex," answered Talon. "I'll find Hudson, and bring him back safely. I'll take that monster down too, I promise." "Be careful."
  6. Shayera flew over the quiet island town of Lindenblum trying to clear her head. It wasn't working. The voices in Shayera's head would not go away. Echoes of comments made by other members of the Justice League gnawed at her all her all the time. There were the during a chess game at Dr. Fate's residence during her time away from the League. Even after she rejoined the superhero collective, everyone thought there was something off about her. She thought about the time she, along with Vixen, Black Canary, and Huntress, at Roulette's Club. Months after the incident, Shayera overheard Huntress telling other Leaguers that she couldn't believe how scared and timid Shayera appeared at the possibility of fighting Diana, how that couldn't be the Hawkgirl she had heard so much about. There were many other instances that constantly passed through her mind, but they all had the same theme. The belief that Shayera had gone soft. The thought that the ripples caused from the Thanagarian invasion of Earth, and , had broken her fighting spirit and destroyed her confidence. Maybe they were right. The invasion had definitely changed her. She could not even bring herself to wear her old Hawgirl outfit. What was the point? It was Thanagarian armor, the same armor worn by the army that had banished her from her home world. It was a look now despised all over the Earth because of what it symbolized. Shayera also knew her demeanor had changed. She no longer carried herself with the brash bravado she once did. She no longer went searching for a fight wherever she could find it. But, did all this mean she had somehow become a less effective warrior? Shayera could not be sure. Shayera's thoughts were interrupted as the sky suddenly went dark. "What the?" said Shayera. . As it hovered over the land, a large energy ball formed in its mouth. The energy ball erupted from the dragon's mouth and hurled itself into Lindenblum, scorching half the city instantaneously. "No... no way..." Shayera tapped the communicator in her ear. "J'onn? J'onn, come in, did you get that?" "Yes," replied the Martian Manhunter from the Watchtower. "Mystical activity has suddenly spiked at your location." "No kidding. This gigantic flying lizard just wiped out half the city with one shot. I have no idea where it came from. It just appeared. You should see the size of it, J'onn. I don't undestand how I couldn't see this monster coming." "Sensors indicate that the creature you are seeing now was not there moments ago," said J'onn. "So it just appeared out of then air? How is that possible?" asked Shayera. "It looks to be a creature composed completely of magical energy," J'onn answered. "So this thing was summoned into existence by some wizard or something?" said Shayera. "That would seem to be the most logical explanation," replied J'onn. "Although I am not detecting any magic users with that kind of power in your area." "Wherever it came from it needs to be stopped," Shayera declared. "There aren't any League reinforcements available at this time," J'onn said sadly. "Save as many people as you can until I can get you some assistance." "Did you not hear me before, J'onn. This monster wiped out half the city with one blast. We don't have that much time." "I certainly hope you are not considering engaging the monster by yourself," said J'onn. "You said it was made from magic, right? I think my magic disrupting mace is the best weapon we will have to fight this beast." "That may very well be true, but one miscalculation or ill timed hesitation in fighting this monster will get you eviscerated," warned J'onn. "I'm aware of the risks, J'onn." The Martian Manhunter's tone softened as the next few sentences exited his lips. "Shayera, I know what you have been going through. I know about your internal struggles. You don't need to do this to prove your worth. You are a valued member of this team." "I'm not trying to prove anything," Shayera insisted. "I'm trying to save people. It's what we do." "Shayera..." Shayera watched the dragon as it began to circle over the city again, oblivious to the screams below. "It looks like it might strike again I have to move. Get me some backup if you can, but I'm not waiting. Shayera out!"
  7. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XIV Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. As a magical duel began in the Bat Cave between Zatanna and the Weird Sisters over the fate of Xanatos and the Manhattan Clan, another fight was just about to end in the streets of Gotham City. Demona picked up Onyx by her throat and slammed her into the brick wall of the alley. Onyx no longer had any strength to fight back. She could barely even see her attacker any more. Her left eye was battered, bruised, and cut. Demona lifted her other claw to deliver the final, fatal blow. "You fought well, human," she said. "You should take some pride in that, during these last few moments of your life." Before she could strike down Onyx, a leather whip wrapped around Demona's wrist. She glared at it. "What is the meaning of this?" Demona's eyes followed the whip up to it's owner, a woman in skin tight leather standing on a fire escape. "Is there room for me in this dance?" Catwoman purred. "How many of you are going to come out of the shadows?" Demona growled. Her eyes glowed white with anger. "Don't you realize you are just annoying me and ensuring your own deaths!" Demona released Onyx, who crumbled to the ground. The gargoyle then pulled on the whip to yank her new adversary off the fire escape and slammed her on to the ground. Catwoman lamented Demona's countermove. "As many times as that has happened now, I should probably stop doing it." Catwoman collected herself and returned to her feet, whip in hand. "I was on my way to help a certain pointy eared friend of mine, but you can't expect me to just waltz by and let you kill Onyx," she said. "Certainly, Batman wouldn't be very happy with me." "No....Catwoman....don't...." mumbled Onyx. "Don't worry Onyx. I can do this," Catwoman reassured. "Save your strength." Demona scoffed. "It's funny. I remember someone else confronting me with such confidence." She looked down at Onyx. "You can see how that turned out." Catwoman displayed her suit's razor sharp retractable claws and readied her whip to strike. "I'm not afraid. Let's get on with it, demon."
  8. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XIII Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. After Macbeth's departure from the Bat Cave, Alfred, Xanatos, and Lexington did their best to bring Zatanna up to speed on what was going on in Gotham City and where things were at the moment. When it was done, Zatanna took a moment to soak in all the information. "Wow. You guys have been busy," she finally said. "I must say that although I have been aware of gargoyles for some time I have never had the privilege of meeting any, let alone working with them. Such a noble race of beings, it is truly an honor." Lexington smiled from ear to ear. "Thanks." Xanatos turned his attention back to the computer and the business at hand. "Have you tried contacting Hudson? I am concerned that perhaps things went south against Clayface." "I will try again, sir," replied Alfred. A bright flash of light briefly illuminated the Bat Cave. "We will save you the time old man, the gargoyle has lost." "And if things continue as they are he will lose more than just the battle." The four allies turned around to catch a full view of the voices that had just spoke. Three beautiful women now stood before them. They were identical except for the color of their hair, one had white, the other blonde, and the third black. "The Weird Sisters," gasped Lexington. "Luna, Phoebe, and Seline! Tonight is just full of surprises," said Zatanna. "You know their names?" asked Lexington. Zatanna appeared briefly insulted by the question. "Yeah, the Children of Oberon are kind of a big deal in mystic circles." "To what do we owe the pleasure of your company, ladies?" Xanatos inquired. "We are here to retrieve you and the gargoyles and take you back home," answered Luna. "What?" "You are on a fool's errand here in this wretched despot," Seline scolded. "You are to stop immediately and return him," explained Phoebe. Xanatos was incredulous "We can't go home, we just started." "Lord Oberon entrusted you and the gargoyle clan with the protection of his offspring, your son, Alexander," said Phoebe. "Yet you jeopardize that protection now by participating in a battle that does not directly effect you," Seline added. "Already two gargoyles have fallen, and Oberon will not tolerate the loss of more," Luna concluded. "If Oberon wants to keep us safe then shouldn't you be helping us?" asked Lexington. "We are forbidden by Oberon's Law to interfere in the dealings of mortals," said Luna. Xanatos sighed. "Once again Oberon's Law is subject to his own interpretation. Trying to force us to go home is the definition of interfering." "We are simply keeping you in line with your true destiny." "A destiny that involves you watching over Alexander so that he may grow to reach his full potential." "A destiny that you foolishly risk by being here." "With all due respect," said Zatanna. "What they are doing here is important. We need them here. They are helping to save innocent people's lives, and maybe even Batman's as well." "Meaningless lives," countered Seline. "Whether they die tonight or twenty years from now is inconsequential to the bigger picture," added Luna. "The same can not be said for Alexander," concluded Phoebe. "No life is meaningless. Especially not the life of Bruce Wayne!" shouted Zatanna. "Be quiet now, Magician!" Seline commanded. "This conversation does not concern you," said Luna. "The hell it doesn't!" Zatanna replied as she pulled out her wand. "Do you really intend on challenging us, mortal?" Phoebe asked dismissively. "I can't just let you take them. There is too much at stake."
  9. Thanks DSkillz, for all your comments during this arc. In my mind, this was the Pack after the initial upgrade, but before Dingo's reformation (meaning no Matrix). But after I read your comment I remembered that Dingo reformed before the truce between Xanatos and the Gargoyles. So yeah basically the timeline is a little skewed to make better matches .
  10. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XII Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. Xanatos ended his conversation with Owen and hung up his cell phone. He turned around to see only Lexington standing there. "Where is Goliath?" asked Xanatos. "He left," Lexington answered. "Left? Where?" "He went after Elisa. When he overheard what happened to your Coyote android, he started to worry for Elisa's safety," Lexington explained. "He's really not used to following orders, only giving them. Hudson has even told me stories about way back when Goliath was his second in command and how he would..." Xanatos cut him off. "Did he at least take a communicator?" "No." Alfred re-entered the Bat Cave with another man right behind him. "Excuse me, sir. This man, Macbeth, says he knows you and has come to help." Xanatos's demeanor briefly brightened. "Yes, excellent, this must be who Owen was referring to." Macbeth shook hands with both Xanatos and Lexington. "I take it the rest of the Clan is already on the battlefield," he said. "Battlefield?" Alfred repeated. "Don't mind him, Alfred," said Xanatos. "He has been around for a very long time." "Yes I have, and lately my life has seen a severe lacking in adventure. When Owen told me what you had gotten involved with down here I couldn't resist. How is the team doing so far?" asked Macbeth. Alfred returned to the Bat Computer and gave a status update. "Killer Croc destroyed the Coyote android, but the gargoyle named Broadway has checked in to report that he has successfully subdued Blockbuster. Many of the others have either recently just engaged with their targets or are still in pursuit so it is too early to tell. I am concerned about the gargoyle, Brooklyn. He reported that he had located Man-Bat awhile ago, but I have not received anything from him since then." Suddenly a cloud of smoke filled the Bat Cave and when it dissipated, the magician, Zatanna appeared. Macbeth pointed his lightning gun at her. "Friend or foe?" he asked aloud to anyone willing to answer. "Miss Zatanna! What a pleasant surprise," gushed Alfred. Macbeth lowered his gun. "I guess that answers it. "It's always nice to see you, Alfred," said Zatanna. "I came as soon as I could. I just had to finish up some official League business. Where is Bruce?" "Tracking down the Joker, currently. You know how that goes." Xanatos extended a hand. "I don't believe we've met." "Oh, excuse my horrible manners, sir," said Alfred. "Madam, this is Master Xanatos. He and his unique friends have been here helping us out." Zatanna smiled. "How wonderful." Macbeth shook her hand as well. "The name is Macbeth, my lady." "Are you another one of Bruce's allies?" asked Xanatos. "I am. As Alfred said, my name is Zatanna. I am one of the top magicians from the Justice League and Bruce and I have been close for a long time." Lexington walked over to Alfred. "What were you saying about Brooklyn?" "Ah yes, good fortune has given use two more compatriots, but we must get back to business," said Xanatos. "I fear that he has lost to Man-Bat," said Alfred. "Should I go after him?" suggested Zatanna. "No," answered Xanatos. "It looks like it's going to be a long night, I believe we will need someone of your power to stay here." He glanced over at Lexington. "To possibly make the night longer if necessary." "If someone knows where he is, I would be more then happy to fetch our gargoyle friend," said Macbeth. "Splendid. Alfred can you give Macbeth Brooklyn's last known location." After receiving the information from Alfred, Macbeth set off. On a rooftop in the middle of the city, Brooklyn crawled slowly away from his opponent. He was losing a lot of blood. "Help," he mumbled into his communicator. It took him a minute to realize the communicator wasn't working. It had been severely damaged in the fight. Man-Bat hovered over him, ready to go in for the kill. Suddenly, an electric blast smashed into Man-Bat. Brooklyn looked up to see Macbeth on his glider. "Mind if I take it from here?" said Macbeth. "Ma..ma...Macbeth," replied Brooklyn. "I've never been happier to see you in my life."
  11. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part XI Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. Goliath's eyes never left Elisa as she exited the Bat Cave to track down the serial killer, Victor Zsasz. Xanatos folded his hands in front of his lips and thought for a moment. "Ok, where was I before Detective Maza's impassioned interruption? Ah yes, Goliath and Lexington.." Xanatos's cell phone rang. "Hold that thought." He looked at his phone to see that it was his faithful assistant, Owen, calling. "Yes, Owen," he answered. "Troubling news, sir. The android Coyote has gone off line. I fear that he failed in his mission to capture the villain, Killer Croc," said Owen. "That is troubling, I was for sure that Coyote was strong enough to take him down." As Owen and Xanatos talked over the demise of Coyote, Batman's computer alerted Alfred that someone was at the front door. "Excuse me, sirs." Alfred dismissed himself to go open the door. "Perhaps these villains are much more powerful than I had originally anticipated," Xanatos said to Owen. Goliath leaned over to Lexington. "Did you hear that? Xanatos's precious android was destroyed in battle. It appears Xanatos has underestimated our adversaries. Our clan might be in more danger than we thought. And what about Elisa?" Fear and concern overcame Goliath. "What about Elisa? We are in a strange place and we were naive to think Xanatos could navigate us through. I'm going to after Elisa to protect her!" "Goliath! No! Wait..." pleaded Lexington. Goliath left the Bat Cave. Xanatos remained oblivious as he tried to restrategize over the phone with Owen. "It's not all bad news, sir," Owen reassured. "I also called to inform you that another ally is on the way. He came here looking for Goliath, and when I told him what you all were doing he was eager to join in on the adventure. He should be arriving there any minute." Alfred opened the door at the front of Wayne Manor. Standing there was a man with a thick white beard and long black trench coat. "May I help you?" asked Alfred. "I hope I'm not too late for the party," the man replied. Goliath prepared to glide down from the rooftop of Wayne Manor and find Elisa. A voice stopped him. "Just what exactly do you think you are doing?" Goliath turned around to look at a man who looked similar to Batman, but was distinctly different. "At first I thought a group of monsters were attacking Bruce's house. But then I watched you, one by one, leaving here and going out into the city. It occurred to me that you must be here to help Bruce recapture all the criminals that were set free from Arkham," said Jean Paul Valley. "Yes we are. I am in a rush myself. But, if you are here to help, the others who haven't already left to fight are inside with Alfred," Goliath replied. "I did come to help...originally...but then a thought came to me. Last time something like this happened it resulted in me becoming Batman. I really liked being Batman. I was a damn good Batman. I made some mistakes, but I learned from them. I'm ready to be Batman again. As you can see, most of my original suit still fits. Unfortunately, for me to become Batman again I need for things to run their course. Which means no one is allowed to help Bruce any longer." It was starting to become clear in Goliath's mind why this man had stopped him. "I don't want to fight you," he said. "At the moment I just want to find my friend." "Don't lie to me, monster!" Valley shouted. "Like I said I can not allow you freaks to interfere any longer." Anger began to build inside Goliath Jean Paul Valley smirked. "Let's see what you got, big guy."
  12. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part X Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. In a warehouse many miles outside of Gotham City, three of the Birds of Prey (Black Canary, Huntress, Katana) were putting the finishing touches on their most recent mission. “Is that the last of them?” asked Katana. As the final hooded thug fell to the ground, a smile appeared on the face of Huntress. “That’s the last of them.” “Good. Oracle says we need to get to Gotham as soon as possible,” said Black Canary. “It has recently turned into a mad house.” Out of the corner of her eye, Canary noticed the incredulous expression on the face of Huntress. “Well, more of a mad house than normal.” “If Batman is looking for help then it must serious,” Huntress said. “That was my thought as well,” replied Canary. “We must make haste.” Before the three heroines could leave the warehouse a loud cackling stopped them in their tracks. The cybernetic brother and sister, Jackal and Hyena, stood in their away. “You dames ain’t going anywhere,” Hyena announced. “Someone paid us a lot of money to make sure you don’t make it to Gotham,” added Jackal. Black Canary sighed. “We don’t have time for this.” She belted out a loud Canary Cry in the direction of Jackal and Hyena. Suddenly, Dingo, in his battle suit, descended from the ceiling and smashed into Black Canary’s back with a double axe handle attack. She fell to the ground. “That’ll be enough of that noise,” said Dingo. “Who are you guys?” asked Katana. Just as the words left her mouth, Katana was grabbed from behind and put in a massive bear hug by the large werewolf, Wolf. “We are your worst nightmare, lady,” he growled. “We are the Pack. We have you outnumbered. And there is no way you can beat us,” Jackal said confidently. Jackal and Hyena laughed continuously as they extended their limbs and showed off their mechanical claws for all to see. Huntress aimed her crossbow at the maniacal duo. “It’s going to take a lot more than you circus freaks to intimidate us.”
  13. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part IX Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. Three people and two gargoyles remained in the Bat Cave after Talon left to capture Two-Face. “Okay, Goliath and Lexington, I have left the two of you last for a very important reason. I..” Xanatos began. “Hey! What about me?” Elisa interjected. “Detective, I never had the intention of putting you out there,” replied Xanatos. “What?” “I needed your help in coercing Talon’s assistance and I know your presence is always good for Goliath and his clan, but I didn’t plan for you to track down any of the Arkham escapees,” Xanatos explained. “Why not? You think I can’t handle it?” asked Elisa. “After all of our history, do you truly believe I would be intimidated by any of these criminals?” “On the contrary, I have nothing but respect and admiration for your skills as an officer and all that you have overcome.” Xanatos glanced over at Goliath. “It is not my concern that gives me hesitation.” Elisa walked over to Goliath. “Do you not think I should be helping in this mission?” “I just don’t know what I would do if something should happen to you,” Goliath replied. “While that is very sweet, you know I am no good at just sitting around. If you think I am just going to wait around here while you guys risk your lives to protect these people then you don’t know me at all. I am a police detective, protecting people is my job and my life. It is a purpose we both share.” Goliath acquiesced. “You’re right, of course. You have just as much a right and obligation to be out there as we do. Forgive my over protectiveness.” Elisa placed her hand on Goliath’s cheek. “I know it comes from a good place.” “Master Xanatos, may I make a suggestion?” Alfred inquired. “By all means,” Xanatos answered. Alfred tapped a few keys on Batman’s computer and a new profile emerged on the screen. “Victor Zsasz is a sadistic serial killer who is among those who escaped Arkham Asylum. He is insane. He adds a tally mark on himself for each one of his victims. He may seem tame compared to some of the more colorful residents of Arkham, but he is no less a threat to the populace of Gotham,” said Alfred. Xanatos looked over the profile. “Excellent suggestion, Alfred. I’m guessing that given the nature of this hectic and desperate situation, the Gotham City Police won’t throw a lot of jurisdictional red tape your way Detective. Should you chose to pursue him.” Elisa was silent as she read over the grisly details of some of Zsasz’s murders. Her eyes narrowed. “Thank you for entrusting this one to me, Alfred,” she finally said. “Nothing will give me greater joy than putting this demented scumbag back behind bars.”
  14. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part VIII Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. With Angela gone to take on Poison Ivy, Talon looked around at the few friends that remained in the Bat Cave. The group had shrunk to himself, his sister Elisa, Goliath, and Lexington. “Xanatos if you are going to pick a replacement to go after Coldstone’s initial target, you better do it soon before we run out of able bodies.” “Right you are, Derek,” replied Xanatos. “I have been mulling over this decision in my mind since Coldstone left to pursue Deadshot. And the best choice is you.” “What about my original target?” asked Talon. “You didn’t have one,” answered Xanatos. “I wanted you as my ace up my sleeve. That’s why it was so important to have Detective Maza convince you to make the trip.” “Really?” “Yes. But it appears I’m going to have to use you now instead.” Xanatos turned his attention to Alfred who still sat at Batman’s computer. “Alfred, pull up the file on Harvey.” Alfred obliged and a picture of Two-Face took over the screen. “You are looking at former district attorney turned super villain, Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face,” Xantatos explained. “He suffered a psychotic break and has been a criminal ever since.” Talon scoffed. “He doesn’t look like too much trouble.” “On the contrary, he is one of the biggest crime bosses in Gotham, and his unstable nature makes it hard to predict his actions. By the looks of it, Batman has compiled a list of his usual locations. He has probably already assembled a crew by now, so it won’t be easy to actually reach him.” “I’m sure the thugs who work for him are no different then the thugs and low lifes I deal with on a daily basis in the Labyrinth back home. I’m not concerned,” Talon said with confidence. Xanatos lifted an eyebrow. “Perhaps you should be. I know it’s not your usual style, but utilizing some stealth to assess the situation would be an excellent strategy. I’m sure Harvey is expecting Batman to come after him, so he could have traps set up in his hideout.” Electricity sparkled around Talon‘s clinched fist. “Hmm, but is he expecting someone who can actually fly and is electrically charged to come after him?” “A fair point. I just want you to be ready. Expect the unexpected. Two-Face is just as adept at firing a grenade launcher as he is his double barrel pistol.” Xanatos paused for a moment. “If you remember anything, remember this, Two-Face is obsessed with duality. He can’t make any serious decision without flipping his coin. That knowledge might prove crucial in helping you defeat him.” “Fascinating,” blurted out Lexington. “Got it. Give me my earpiece and I’ll be on my way,” said Talon. Before Xanatos could hand the communicator over to Talon, Elisa snatched it away from him. She gently placed it in her brother’s palm and closed his hand around it. “Don’t be cocky, Derek. Promise me you’ll be careful out there.” Talon rolled his eyes. “Promise me,” repeated Elisa. Talon’s expression softened as he looked into Elisa’s eyes. “Ok. I promise I’ll be careful.”
  15. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part VII Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. As Onyx and Demona battled in the streets of Gotham City, Xanatos, Alfred, and the Manhattan Clan continued to divide up the responsibilities for recapturing the escaped inmates of Arkham Asylum in the Bat Cave. Their plans hit an unexpected snag when Deadshot was spotted by Nightwing during his pursuit of Mr. Freeze. A valued ally, Coldstone, volunteered to go after the assassin. Nevertheless they pressed on. “Time is not on our side, so we must keep going,” said Xanatos. He glanced in Angela’s direction. “You asked about which villain you would be tracking. Alfred, pull up the file on Poison Ivy.” “Yes, sir.” Angela appeared unimpressed as Poison Ivy’s profile emerged on Batman’s computer. “Do you not think me strong enough to take on one of the males?” “That is not it at all,” insisted Xanatos. “Poison Ivy is a very dangerous adversary and I doubt many males would stand a chance against her to be honest. In fact, she is somewhat of a seductress and poisonous kisses are a calling card of hers. I’m not sure what effect the pheromones she produces would have on a gargoyle, but we thought it best not to take the chance and send our lone female warrior to capture her.” “I see.” Xanatos continued, “Be cautious. While she may not pose much of a physical threat to you, she possesses a variety of lethal toxins and can control her environment if plants are in the vicinity.” “Not unlike the Archmage during our time on Avalon,” said Goliath. “None of this meant to discourage you of course. Only prepare you. You are your father’s daughter, and the persistence and strength that you both share is going to be the key to you defeating Ivy.” “You have not discouraged me at all,” said Angela. “I look forward to this challenge and I am confident that I can beat her.” Lexington looked over Poison Ivy’s profile. “Looks like it won’t be too hard to find her. If this is right all you need to do is go chop down some trees in the park and she will be all over you,” he joked. Xanatos handed Angela a communicator earpiece. “Here you go. You’re all set.” Angela placed it in her ear and read over the profile one more time. Goliath placed his claw on her shoulder. “I know you will make me and the the rest of our Clan proud,” he said softly.
  16. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part VI Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. While members of the Manhattan Clan were lining up in the Bat Cave to take on some of Batman’s fiercest villains, other gargoyles had arrived in Gotham City with their own agenda. Thailog and Demona stood atop a rooftop and surveyed the landscape. “Something big is going down I can feel it,” said Thailog. “It peaked my interest when my spies told me that Xanatos was making an emergency trip to Gotham City. But, the fact that Goliath and his clan soon followed made it too irresistible to pass up.” “What could they possibly be doing here?” wondered Demona. “Who knows. But there is a lot of untapped power in this city. Whatever situation has brought them all here, I know I can exploit it for my own personal gain,” said Thailog. Demona glared at him for a moment. “I mean our personal gain of course.” “But we are in a foreign place. I don’t even know where to begin looking for them,” lamented Demona. “Why put in that uneccessary effort, when we can bring them to us.” “How...” Demona’s voice trailed off as she followed Thailog’s eyes to a young woman walking through a nearby alley. “I see. If this is anything like New York, one of those fools will come swooping in as soon as we put some pathetic human’s life in danger.” “Exactly,” said Thailog. “One way or another we will get their attention.” Demona walked a little distance from Thailog. Excitement filled her body as she staked out her potential prey. “Or the attention of one of the countless costumed nutjobs that inhabit this city,” Thailog added under his breath. “What did you say?” asked Demona. “Happy hunting, my Angel of the Night,” said Thailog. “After you’ve connected with the Clan find out all you can about their dealings here. Contact me, and we will formulate our plan from there.” Demona quickly ran over and embraced Thailog. “See you soon.” “Of course,” replied Thailog. “Now go before we miss out on a golden opportunity." Demona glided down into the alley as Thailog slipped into the shadows and disappeared. Demona landed right in front of the young woman. The woman dropped her purse and shrieked in terror. “Oh my god! Please don’t hurt me!” “Scream! Scream for your life, human,” Demona hissed. “The louder the better.” A block away, the former assassin, Onyx, was running across rooftops. Her communication with Nightwing had broken down before she could get the location of Deadshot. All she knew was that he was somewhere along 55th. Or at least he was. She had decided to scope out the entire street in hopes of finding him. A woman’s scream broke her concentration. She followed the direction of the screams which led her to a dark alley. Onyx peered over the ledge and saw a winged creature towering over a frightened citizen. Demona stepped closer to the woman, growling for dramatic effect. Suddenly a kick to the back sent Demona crashing into a nearby dumpster. Demona quickly returned to her feet, but saw no one. Another kick to the back sent Demona into the wall. “I’ve seen some creepy things in this city. But you might take the cake,” said Onyx. Demona returned to her feet again. Anger rumbled through her voice. “Mind your business, human! I’m not here for you.” “Protecting the innocent is my business,” Onyx retorted. She turned her attention to the woman on the ground. “It’s okay you’ll be safe now.” “This is my last warning, human, leave now,” a furious white glow illuminated Demona’s eyes. “or I will kill you where you stand!” “You could try,” said Onyx confidently.
  17. Thanks, DSkillz. This particular fight isn't actually part of the crossover arc, but it was the arc's inspiration.
  18. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part V Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. When Hudson made his leave of the Bat Cave to find Clayface, Xanatos looked over all who remained including Goliath, Lexington, Angela, Bronx, Coldstone, Talon, and Elisa Maza. “Four down, several more to go.” Talon eyed Xanatos with suspicion. “Are you sure it is best to be splitting up everyone like this? Wouldn’t it be better to stick together.” “It is not an ideal situation I grant you,” replied Xanatos. “But the current situation doesn’t leave us with many ideal options.” “The amount of danger that the citizens of Gotham City face with these villains at large can not be overstated,” added Alfred. “I did not mean to suggest...” Talon stuttered. “Let us keep moving then,” Angela said confidently. “Who am I going after?” “Alfred, pull up the file on..” Before Xanatos could finish, Nightwing’s face appeared on Batman’s computer screen. It was apparent that he was in motion. “Alfred, have you managed to find any help? Perhaps someone from the League?” he asked. “No one from the League. But I have found help, Master Grayson.” “Good enough. I trust your judgment. We need someone down to 55th and Main. I just spotted Deadshot in the area. I would go after him myself, but I’m currently pursuing Mr. Freeze. I don’t want the trail to go cold. No pun intended. No doubt Deadshot is trying to take advantage of the situation to make some cash. Perhaps he is even responsible for it as a way to distract his target. Either way, he needs to be dealt with as quickly as possible,” Nightwing explained. “Understood, sir. We are on it.” “Thanks, Alfred. Nightwing out.” Nightwing’s face disappeared from the screen. Alfred rubbed his head with his hands. “It just gets worse and worse.” “Deadshot? I don’t remember you showing me his file,” said Xanatos. “He wasn’t one of the criminals locked up in Arkham,” replied Alfred. “I’m not sure what his purpose is here, but it can’t be good.” After a few strokes of the keyboard, Deadshot’s profile appeared on the big screen. Xanatos read it carefully. “Let’s see here... one of the top assassins in the world... variety of weapons... expert marksman... pinpoint accuracy. We are definitely going to need to shuffle some things.” “I’ll take him on,” Coldstone announced. Xanatos looked back at the cybernetic gargoyle. Coldstone continued, “From the looks of it you will need someone with a lot of fire power, and that would be me.” “Hmmm, I agree. I believe you are our best option to take down this killer. We will have to adjust our strategy against your original target, but such is the reality of a fluid situation,” said Xanatos. Coldstone took the earpiece communicator from Xanatos. “Just get me to 55th and Main and I will take down the assassin.”
  19. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part IV Summary: With all the inmates freed from Arkham Asylum, Batman had more than he could he handle. Even with the help of his usual allies like Robin and Nightwing, the dark knight was overwhelmed. Alfred sought out a new ally, David Xanatos, who has come forth ready to offer a helping hand along with the Manhattan Gargoyle Clan. Soon after Brooklyn’s departure to take on Man-Bat, Detective Elisa Maza’s inquisitive nature led her to inspect the screen of villains on Batman’s computer. “It’s hard to believe all these sick and twisted individuals could reside in the same city,” she said. Alfred shook his head. “It is a truly stunning thing to be sure.” One particular villain stood out to Elisa and she pointed him out to Alfred. “Who is Clayface? What is his story?” Before Alfred could answer, Xanatos cut in. “Of all the villains that we are trying to help recapture, I believe he offers up perhaps the biggest challenge. He is made up entirely of clay and has the ability to shapeshift. He can create weapons with his hands and can even change his entire appearance. This ability becomes more problematic because he is able to split his body into multiple parts.” “What matter of sorcery is that?” gasped Hudson. “And how are we supposed to track him down if he can alter his appearance so easily?” asked Lexington. Alfred lifted a small device into the air, “With this, sir. Master Bruce has been using it for awhile now whenever he knows Clayface is at large. It can be used to detect his unique body signature.” After a small glance of approval from Xanatos, Alfred handed the device to Hudson. Confusion spread across Hudson‘s face. “Why are you handing it to me, lad? I’m sure this assignment is meant for Goliath or perhaps Coldstone.” “Nope, it’s all yours,” said Xanatos with a smile. “Surly I am too old for such an important target," insisted Hudson. “That line may work on others, but not on me. I have seen your indomitable fighting spirit too many times first hand. You remember the Cauldron of Life? I made the mistake of thinking you were too old once. I never will again. The wily resourcefulness you displayed that night is much needed now if we hope to subdue Clayface,” said Xanatos. Angela joined in on the encouragement. “You certainly didn’t get that scar on your left eye by sitting on the sidelines.” Hudson looked around at his friends who were all nodding in agreement. He pulled out his short sword. “Alright, where do I go to find this monster of clay!” “He was last seen by the police in Gotham City Central Park entering a manhole,” informed Alfred. “To the sewers it is then,” announced Hudson. Goliath swelled up with pride. “That’s the Hudson I know!” Xanatos offered Hudson an earpiece communicator. “Don’t forget this. We’ll update you should any more sightings surface. Good luck.”
  20. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part III In the Bat Cave, Xanatos, Alfred, the Manhattan Clan, Elisa, Coldstone, and Talon were in the midst of planning out their assault on the escapees of Arkham Asylum to assist Batman. Brooklyn watched Angela’s face as Broadway left to fight Blockbuster. Her concerned expression sent a twinge of jealousy through Brooklyn’s body. He walked over to the computer and ran his eyes across the remaining villains. “Which one of these goons is mine?” he asked. “In a hurry for battle, lad?” asked Hudson. Hudson glanced in Angela’s direction. “I hope it is for the right reasons.” “It’s not what you think. If we are here to fight these bad guys and protect the people of Gotham City, then there is no reason to sit around here and wait,” insisted Brooklyn. “Very well, Brooklyn,” said Xanatos. “Alfred, pull up the file on Man-Bat.” “Yes, sir.” Alfred typed at the keyboard and a large picture of Man-Bat encompassed the screen. “The criminal you are looking at is named Man-Bat. As his name implies, he is man sized bat. He was originally a scientist named Dr. Robert Langstrom. Dr. Langstrom ingested a formula that turned him into the creature you see before you,” explained Xanatos. “Sounds like a kindred spirit for Dr. Servarius,” Talon remarked bitterly. Xanatos shook his head. “It’s not exactly the same, Derek. Dr. Langstrom never intended for mutation. But once it takes hold he is consumed with rage and he becomes a danger to all those around him.” Alfred turned toward Brooklyn. “He is one of very few villains in Gotham who can actually fly so you won’t have an advantage there.” Brooklyn’s confidence waned for a moment. “Why choose me to take him down?” Because,” said Xanatos, “as Alfred stated Man-Bat can fly and in his current mind set who knows what he will do. To defeat him, we need someone who is both extremely agile and able to think on his feet in battle. To adjust strategies if the situation calls for it. Qualities you have demonstrated on several occasions.” Goliath placed his claw on Brooklyn’s shoulder. “I agree. Why else would I have made you my second in command.” Xanatos lifted an eyebrow. “If you don’t think you can do it Brooklyn...” “No, I can do it. I know I can. I am a proud warrior and a leader in this clan,” Brooklyn boasted. “Excellent,” said Xanatos as he reached in his pocket for an earpiece for Brooklyn. “Remember Alfred and I are here to help you track him down.” Lexington looked up at his friend. “Go get him, Brooklyn.” Brooklyn nodded with confidence.
  21. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part II In the Bat Cave, David Xanatos smiled as he hung up his phone. “Owen has just informed me that Coyote has been given Killer Croc’s profile and he is on the hunt.” “Wonderful news, sir,” said Alfred. “I wouldn’t suppose you would have any more Coyotes available would you?” “Afraid not. Why? How many more villains are still loose?” asked Xanatos. “As I said before there are many, even when you take out those that Master Bruce has already recaptured or is in the process of capturing,” said Alfred. Alfred hit a button on the computer and several faces appeared on the screen under the bright red heading, At Large. “Oh my,” remarked Xanatos. “Don’t worry Alfred, I still have cards to play. Let me get Owen back on the phone.” Xanatos called his faithful assistant. “Owen, I need you to arrange a flight to Gotham for the Manhattan Clan. Tell Goliath I need his help and many innocent lives could be at stake. I know Coldstone is in town so make sure he tags along as well.” Xanatos went silent for a moment as he studied the screen of faces. “And ask Detective Maza to try to convince her brother, Talon, to make the trip. I know that I’m still not one of his favorite people, but it looks like we will need all the help we can get.” “Are you sure all these reinforcements that you are calling in can be trusted?” asked a nervous Alfred. “They are the most noble beings I know,” replied Xanatos. A couple of hours later, Alfred welcomed the Manhattan Clan, Coldstone, Talon, and Elisa Maza into Wayne Manor. “Welcome, welcome. Thank you for coming. All that I ask is that you don’t track mud into the house.” Goliath’s eyes quickly found Xanatos. “Why have you summoned us here, Xanatos?” “There isn’t much time. I’ll explain it as we make our way back to Bruce’s computer.” Xanatos briefed the new visitors on the situation at they walked through the secret passages into the Bat Cave. “Who here has heard of Batman?” asked Xanatos. “Heard of him? He is only one of the greatest heroes in the world,” Broadway gushed. Lexington‘s eyes sparkled. “Is he here? Are we going to meet him?” “Better than that, Lexington, we are going to help him.” “What kind of help does he need from us?” wondered Brooklyn. By now they all stood in front of the computer. Xanatos gazed up at it as he explained, “Everyone of these criminals you see before you is currently terrorizing the citizens of Gotham City. They need protection. Batman can not do it alone.” “Are we to patrol the streets, then?” asked Hudson. “No. Our plan of attack is a little more focused than that, Hudson. We want to spread out our forces to help capture all of these villains as soon as possible. It is a little chaotic out there right now, so they should not be too hard to find,” said Xanatos. Coldstone looked over the faces on the screen. “Each one of us will have a different target?” Xanatos smiled. “Precisely. Alfred and I went over this rogue gallery while we waited for your arrival. We spent alot of time figuring out who would be best suited to go after each villain. I am confident that we are in good shape.” “So who is first?” asked Angela. Xanatos pressed some buttons on Batman’s computer. “Our first villain goes by the name, Blockbuster. He has the mind of a child, but also has super strength and is very dangerous.” Xanatos turned his attention toward Broadway. “As our resident heavy hitter, we are charging you with the responsibility of taking him down.” “It will be an honor to help Batman,” stated Broadway. “Glad to hear you say that. Understand what you are getting yourself into though. From the footage I have seen I don’t know if you are strong enough to simply trade blows with Blockbuster. You will probably need your ability to glide in the fight. I’m also counting on your innocent nature possibly appealing to him thus maybe negating a brutal battle,” explained Xanatos. “Got it,” replied Broadway. Xanatos reached in his pocket and took out an earpiece. He handed it to Broadway. “I know this is an unfamiliar area for you so take this. It will put you in constant communication with Alfred and I back here.” Before Broadway could take his leave, he was hugged tightly by Angela. “Be careful out there.”
  22. BATMAN/GARGOYLES CROSSOVER Part 1 David Xanatos picked up the phone in his office. “Hello?” “Master Xanatos, I am so glad that I could get a hold of you,” said a voice. “Is that you Alfred?” Xanatos replied with a chuckle. “Does Bruce have you acting as his secretary now as well?” “No, nothing of the sort. In fact, Master Bruce does not even know I am calling. I need your help. It could be a matter of life or death.” The smile faded from the face of Xanatos. “I’m listening.” “I’m afraid of saying too much over the phone. I know this is out of the blue, but how soon can you be in Gotham?” asked Alfred. “I’ll be there within the hour,” Xanatos answered. “Thank you sir.” Less than an hour later, Xanatos was greeted at the front door of Wayne Manor by Alfred. “So what is going on? Is Bruce here?” Alfred shook his head. “I’m afraid not, sir. He has been out in the streets all night, just as he was last night and the night before that and every night since the walls of Arkham Asylum came crumbling down.” “Crumbling down?” “Someone has set free all the inmates and Master Bruce has been working non-stop to recapture them all,” explained Alfred. “Certainly sounds like a nightmare,” said Xanatos. “This isn’t the first time this has happened, and that is what scares me. One time, that dastardly Bane set free all of Arkham’s inmates so that he could wear down Master Bruce. Bane waited for his moment and struck when Master Bruce was at his weakest and broke his back. Master Bruce was crippled for a long period of time and I thought he was done being Batman forever.” “You think Bane is responsible again?” Alfred sighed. “I don’t know. But nothing good can come from this. Also, it’s not like Master Bruce is getting any younger. Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing are already helping him, but there are just so many villains running amok in Gotham right now.” Xanatos put his hand on Alfred’s shoulder. “How can I help?” “I overheard a conversation you had with Master Bruce after your reformation..” “It’s amazing how becoming a father can reshape your priorities,” said Xanatos. “Indeed. I overheard you offering your help if Master Bruce ever needed it. I’m not sure what you can do against these super villains, but your help is needed now.” “I would be more than happy to assist. Is there a particular villain you need me to track down?” “Follow me,” said Alfred. The two men walked through the Manor and into the Bat Cave. Alfred pressed a few buttons on Batman’s computer and a file of Killer Croc appeared on the big screen. “The news I’ve heard lately is about Killer Croc. He truly is an evil monster and anyone walking the streets is in danger while he is on the loose.” “Understood. I think I just might have the thing to bring him down,” said Xanatos as pulled out his cell phone. “Really?” “Yes. My personal battle android, Coyote.” “Coyote? Interesting. And you are certain this android is strong enough to take on Killer Croc? He is not the smartest villain but his strength is immense and he is extremely vicious,” said Alfred. “In its original incarnation, perhaps not. But, that was the great thing about battling gargoyles for so long, upgrades were a must. I have no doubt that the current Coyote can get the job done.” Xanatos turned his attention to his phone. “Owen, Alfred is going to send you a detailed file on a creature named Killer Croc. Upload it to Coyote and prepare him for battle... excellent, thank you Owen.” Alfred smiled. “I’ll get on that right away, sir.”
  23. MacBeth tapped on the table and scratched his white beard as he sat across from Bruce Wayne. His expression was melancholy as Alfred approached him with a pot of tea. “Would you care for anymore tea, sir?” asked Alfred. “No, thank you Alfred, I’m fine,” Macbeth replied. “What’s on your mind, Macbeth?” Bruce finally asked. “I’m lonely. Lonely and depressed. Really at this point, I don’t know what else to do with my life. I have made a massive fortune, I have seen the world. What else is there to do? Honestly, I am just tired of living,” explained MacBeth. “I’m sorry to hear that my friend. If there is anything I can do just let me know,” said Bruce. “It is the least I can do since you have both discovered and agreed to keep my secret.” Macbeth chuckled. “What can I say? I have always been very good at thorough background checks on potential business partners and I can respect your need for privacy. But, I really don’t know what you can do. Unless, of course, you know a way to break my magical bond with Demona that has kept me alive all these years. But, I suspect that is not possible, even for a man as resourceful as you.” “Perhaps you just need to find new meaning in your life,” suggested Bruce. “Like what?” “Have you ever considered becoming a hero. There is a lot honor and fulfillment found in that line of work,” said Bruce. Macbeth raised an eyebrow. “Is that why you do it, Bruce? For the honor and fulfillment?” “I wish I could say it was that simple,” Bruce answered. “But, I could definitely use the help. It seems like every time I make a new ally, twenty more villains emerge. I’m usually hesitant to extend an offer like this because I worry about people getting themselves killed. Obviously that wouldn’t be a problem in your case.” “Very true.” Macbeth thought it over. “I don’t know, Bruce. I’ve never thought of myself as the hero type.” “I’d imagine it wouldn’t be much different from your desire to protect your people in Scotland all those centuries ago.” “A lot has changed since then,” said Macbeth. Alfred spoke up. “Perhaps. And though the world has certainly done a number on you, I can still see that man in you, sir.” Bruce smiled. “I agree.” “You are both too kind. You present me with an intriguing offer, Bruce. I will have to think it over.” “Of course.” Later that night after leaving Wayne Manor, Macbeth took his glider for a spin around Gotham. He mulled over Bruce’s words as cut through the night sky. He stopped a couple of muggings, but mostly because they were breaking his concentration instead of a need to be heroic. “Goliath and his clan would certainly have their work cut out for them patrolling these streets every night,” Macbeth said to himself. Suddenly, fire lit up the night sky. Macbeth’s eyes followed the flames to their source, a man in a black battle suit and wings. The man aimed his flamethrowers at every building in sight. “Bruce wasn’t kidding, there really is alot of crime in this city,” Macbeth remarked. Macbeth took aim at the arsonist with his lightning gun and fired. It was a direct hit. After he recovered, Firefly glared at his attacker. “Mind your business old man!” Firefly shouted. “I’m busy over here.” Firefly shot some grenades in Macbeth’s direction, who used his glider to avoid the blast. “Ooh some excitement. I think I will enjoy this,” said Macbeth.
