  1. Street Fighter 6 will most likely be on the PS5, as will most other new iterations of the fighting games I buy, play for a day, then pretend I actually play regularly, so I'll be getting one.

  2. Here's a project of mine that's been long-gestating and finally came to light this week.

    https://theconspiracyclub.com/

This is where I'll be posting my fiction and game writing stuff. I have a few things completed, a few things nearly completed, and a few more things in the works. I posted the site's first short story tonight. It features a familiar face, albeit a bit younger than usual in this particular story.

    Check it out.

I'll be adding links to future stories to this main post.

  3. This makes the most sense.

Redux isn't finished, but it's functional at the moment for the most part. A few peeps have made characters, testing the waters and all that. It becoming the "new" FPL, with the boards directing peeps to it if they wanna do that thing, is probably the best situation. Maybe all it'd need on your end is a link on the FPL frontpage, something along those lines?

And then we can keep the couple of subforums on here.

Simply put, we didn't always know what we were doing back then.  It would be entirely justified to say "Yeah, it happened before, but we're going to do a better job with rules this time."

This is a pretty good way to tackle a LOT of things about the site in general.

Like, I had no problem using fanart for FPL pics back in the day, but nowadays I'd never just take someone's art-- especially something made by a fan-- and say "this pic represents my character, this is what they look like." Unless, you know, I had permission to do so. I shouldn't have done it in the past, but I'm more aware now.

Right?! Now I have to wonder if I should keep going.

Looks like it's just the CBUB that's back as far as STUFF goes? I remember the FPL being a bit more resource and time intensive, so that might not be in the cards. But it's rad to have the joint back regardless.

  6. If Snyder's idea for Superman consists of him disregarding people in harm's way and snapping the necks of villains, his Batman will probably sit on the top floor of the Wayne Enterprises skyscraper and shoot jaywalkers with a sniper rifle.

  7. Keaton is still the most interesting movie Bruce Wayne/Batman. He's just as much of a freak as the villains he faces, especially in Returns.

Kimler and Clooney didn't get a chance to do anything worthwhile because their respective movies were so godawful.

Bale was OK, but his Batman voice was *vulgarity*ing stupid. None of the Nolan movies were interesting due to his portrayal of the character, though. Begins is watchable only because of Scarecrow and Ras, Dark Knight is all about Joker, and Rises is good due to the operatic ridiculousness of everything.

Considering how bad Man of Steel (and every other Zach Snyder movie) was, I have a feeling Affleck's gonna be tossed into the same camp as Kimler and Clooney. I just can't see Snyder and everyone else responsible for Man of Steel making a good Batman/Superman movie.

  8. A bunch of stuff happens in the movie. Then Wolverine gets shot in the head and he forgets all of it.

We spent two hours watching a kinda crappy movie, only for the movie to tell us none of it mattered.

That alone makes the movie completely worthless. It's a meaningless, insignificant movie that TELLS US it's meaningless and insignificant.

Thankfully the newest Wolverine movie chose to ignore Origins' existence. I can handle X3 still being relevant. It's also a pretty bad movie, but the new movie expanded on its events about as well as you could expect.

  9. I don't mind if people have ideas they want to bring over into the new place. I just want everyone to be clear that, yeah, we're not just taking the decade-plus of pseudo-history that's existed in the FPL and saying "All that stuff's already established." Once we get going, if someone were to say "Hey, I like that Young Sentinels idea RP, let's write something using some of those characters we liked," that'd be cool. Stuff like that just isn't automatically assumed to exist.

In the end we'll probably end up with a mix of the old and the new (more new, I hope), and by mixing the two it'll give whatever old ideas we had a new perspective.

  10. Yeah. The site we're setting up is less about the characters and more about writing stories. There probably won't be any sort of "this guy fights this guy, so VOTE" things, at least on an official level. If it does take place it'd be informal polls on the message board or something like that.

  11. Getting rid of a focal point such as Khazan will broaden the world. It will encourage people to use locations other than one central "connected to everything" city. Khazan's more of a crutch than anything.

That doesn't mean alternate worlds/dimensions/times can't exist. All it means is that there isn't once central point where all of these worlds collide.

And there WILL be certain types of characters that just plain won't work. Sack Full of Spiders? No. The thing we're building is geared more towards the actual story writing aspect of things. You can probably write something about some dude running around with a sack filled with spiders, but the actual Sack wouldn't be an entry in the character database.

Basically, the act of character creation isn't going to be the main aspect of the new place. It's using those characters and actually writing stories.

It's gonna be different, and it's possible that some people might not jive with it. But yeah, we aren't just moving to a new site and resuming as-is. We're taking this opportunity to refine things more towards a shared-universe fiction thing rather than "a place where you make a dude then watch him fight." Things might be a bit more confining, but at the same time we're trying to do something with a more concrete end goal. I think most of y'all will dig it once you shake off your FPL expectations. It won't be BETTER, just different.

  12. I'll say this:

Sentinels, Angels of Mercy, Syndicate, and Fallen won't be automatically transferred. If anything, it'd be best if we simply start from scratch if we need teams/organizations. I know I won't be transferring KALI over to the new place, at least not in its current form.

  13. If the only complains people have about The Wolverine are nitpicky fanboyish things, that's a pretty good sign that it's a genuinely good movie.

And it is. Saw it the other night. Didn't care for the big finale. Up until that point, it wasn't falling into the usual comic book movie traps. It was more of a character drama thing that just happened to have a pretty awesome fight on the top of a bullet train. But the whole robot thing and the reveals in the final fight were kinda lame. It feels like something tacked on by some studio exec who thinks all comic book movies have to end with BIG ROBOT EXPLOSIONS. But it's still a pretty good movie despite that.

Also saw Only God Forgives. Best movie I've seen all year.

  14. Shared Universe. Clean Slate. If people wanna carry over ideas/characters from the FPL, that's cool. Let's just not go into things with preconceived notions about X Y and Z already existing.

Character Wiki from which writers pull characters for stories. People create characters in a more functional format (Not a FPL character write-up). They're posted for all to see, so if they see Soandso in a story, they can look them up/click a link to the Wiki and get a general idea of what the character's about. Characters in the Wiki are free to use by anyone working on stories, but peeps are encouraged to talk with the creator if they wanna DO things with/to them. And if you just wanna make a character without worrying about stories, you can do that too.

Serialized stories released on a schedule. Instead of focusing all of the writing on the character write-ups, shift the focus to storytelling. Someone wants to write a story. They release a chapter on some sort of regular basis. Maybe it's a serialized story. Maybe they're just short stories with the same cast of characters. Play it like each story is an issue of a comic or an episode of a series or something. Maybe even play it where you have actual "series" or something.

Have a small group of editors who look over stories before they go "public" to make sure stuff doesn't contradict other stuff. Like, there'll still be boards for people to post rough drafts, bounce around ideas, and so on, but there'll be, like, an official WordPress site where the "final" stories get posted for public consumption.

That a rough sketch of the idea I've been brainstorming the past few days.

  15. Kinda.

Whatever the FPL ends up doing, there'd be plenty of room for a Fight section of the board, and there'd naturally be a pop culture/general discussion area. It wouldn't be as elaborate as the Ferret, but it'd be open.

At the same time, some people in the CBUB are eager to have their own site under their control, and that's cool. In all honesty, that's probably a good thing that they set up shop on their own. They'll be in control, and there's no need to listen to us old types whine about them.

But yeah, I DO think people are too eager to rush into something new before standing back and thinking things through a bit, but I AM in favor of the CBUB kids having their own place for them to do as they see fit.
