What If Showa Gigan Turned Good?

Venom 2009

Welcome everyone to a Godzilla What If. Here I will be discussing what could have happened if Gigan became good in the Showa Series. Now the way I will be doing this, the scenario won’t have many details, but this way it will make things go much faster. I hope you all will enjoy this story. So then, let's begin.

We start near the end of Godzilla vs Gigan (1972). Just as Gigan and King Ghidorah were running away, Godzilla wasn’t going to let the space monsters escape, and fires an Atomic Ray that knocks the cyborg out of the sky. When Gigan crashes to the ground, he is too weak to fly anymore. Gigan roars to King Ghidorah to help him, but the three-headed dragon just ignores him, and continues to fly off into outer space. Gigan is taken back by King Ghidorah’s betrayal. Fear takes over Gigan as he realizes he is going to die on this planet. But soon that fear was taken over by loneliness as Gigan feels that he has been abandoned.

Godzilla was going to finish off Gigan, until he noticed the cyborg was just setting, and was not making any moves to fight back. The Monster King could tell by the look on Gigan’s face that the space monster had given up, and was waiting for his death. Godzilla didn’t know why, but he couldn’t help but feel pity for Gigan. The dinosaur understood what was going on with Gigan as King Ghidorah did leave him behind. Godzilla thought about going ahead and kill Gigan, since the alien could still be a theat to him and the Earth. However, Godzilla could always fight Gigan again if he does cause trouble.

Godzilla tells Anguirus that their work here is done. Anguirus was surprised by Godzilla’s decision to not finish off Gigan. Deep down Anguirus was still angry at Gigan for the beatings the cyborg had given him during the battle. However, the spiked-shelled beast wasn’t going to question Godzilla. Gigan was surprised as well as Godzilla and Anguirus were leaving him behind. He watched the two dinosaurs leave the ruins of World Children's Land as they were heading towards the ocean.

Gigan may have lived for another day, but was still too hurt and weak to fly off into outer space. So, he decided to stay on the Earth and rest up. Afterward, he left World Children's Land, as he was heading towards the mountains.

A week later, Gigan was all healed up. Gigan remained in the mountains, waiting for his alien overlords to get him off this planet. He was hoping there would be ships, or even King Ghidorah would come for him. But no one showed up. The cyborg didn’t even get any messages from his masters. Did the Space Hunter Nebula M Aliens think he was dead, or did they no longer care about him. Gigan could try to fly back to the Space Hunter Nebula M system; but did he even want to go back to them - the beings that seemed to have abandoned him? No, he would never go back to them. With nowhere else to go, Gigan was going to stay on Earth.

We now go into Godzilla vs Megalon (1973). Things would play out the same up to the point where Jet Jaguar goes to Monster Island to get Godzilla to fight Megalon. The Seatopians send out a distress call to the Space Hunter Nebula M Aliens to send backup for Megalon. But since Gigan had never returned to them, the aliens would send King Ghidorah back to Earth.

Going back to Gigan, while on Earth, he’s been staying in Japan. Gigan has been keeping himself away from cities and villages, so he wouldn’t cause conflict with the humans that would draw Godzilla towards him. The alien didn’t want anything to do with Godzilla, while living on this planet.

One night, while Gigan was resting in an area, the sound of a fight caught his attention. Gigan walked towards the source of the fight, and far away he saw a giant robot fighting a giant insect. The cyborg could see Jet Jaguar was winning, as he had a strong grip on Megalon. That is, until King Ghidorah appeared, and knocked Jet Jaguar down, setting Megalon free. Gigan was both shocked and angry as he set his one eye on King Ghidorah. After Megalon got some hits on Jet Jaguar, the Seatopian Deity and golden dragon exchanged cheerful roars.

Jet Jaguar took to the sky to get away from the two monsters, only to get shot down by Megalon. Just as Jet Jaguar got back on his feet, Megalon knocked him over to King Ghidorah, who uses his three heads to knock the robot back to the giant beetle. Jet Jaguar was being knocked back and forward between Megalon and King Ghidorah.

Gigan’s anger grew as he watched the now one-sided fight. He wasn’t angry at seeing the robot get a beating, but at the sight of King Ghidorah. Deep down, Gigan had hoped that his alien masters would come to rescue him off this planet. Instead, they send King Ghidorah to this planet to help a giant bug beat up a robot. He would make his ex-masters pay for this betrayal by taking out their other monster.

Jet Jaguar was down on the ground with Megalon standing over him, and King Ghidorah was far away from them. Before Megalon could attack Jet Jaguar some more, a roar cry caused him to stop. King Ghidorah looked with all three heads to see Gigan was flying towards him. Gigan slammed King Ghidorah so hard it knocked him to the ground. King Ghidorah was in a state of shock as not only Gigan was still alive, but he attacked him. Gigan started using his claws to hammer down on King Ghidorah, which caused the gold kaiju to cry out as his chest was getting cut up.

Megalon got over his shock of seeing Gigan, and was going to help King Ghidorah, until he got sucker punched by Jet Jaguar which knocked him down. Thanks to Gigan showing up, it gave Jet Jaguar enough time to recover. Once Megalon got back up, he and Jet Jaguar continued their one vs one fight.

King Ghidorah fired his Gravity Beams and blasted Gigan off him. The golden dragon didn’t care if Gigan was once his friend; all that mattered now was making the cyborg pay for attacking him. Once the two space monsters got back up on their feet, they started attacking one another.

The two fights were paused by a loud roar, as Godzilla enters the battlefield. Once Godzilla and Gigan make eye contact, it is obvious that there is tension between them. Godzilla thinks Gigan is with the other monsters threatening the Earth. While Gigan still has hatred towards Godzilla.

King Ghidorah used this opportunity to attack Gigan with Gravity Beams. Godzilla was surprised, until he too was attacked by the Gravity Beams. The Monster King came charging towards King Ghidorah, only for the dragon to use all three heads to knock Godzilla back. Gigan comes up to King Ghidorah from behind, and uses his claws to cut away at the dragon’s back.

While Jet Jaguar was distracted, Megalon knocks him down. The giant bug then rushes to King Ghidorah’s aid. The Seatopian God knocks Gigan away from King Ghidorah and onto the ground. Megalon uses his drill-hands to beat down on Gigan, before the alien uses his feet to knock the beetle back. Once Gigan rose back up, he and Megalon began exchanging hits. King Ghidorah was going to join in with Megalon, until his left head gets punched by Godzilla. The three-headed dragon fires Gravity Beams that push Godzilla back. But then Jet Jaguar kicks at King Ghidorah’s side, making the gold kaiju turn off the Gravity Beams. Godzilla and Jet Jaguar then tag-team against King Ghidorah.

The two fights last for a while, until King Ghidorah wraps his necks around Godzilla, and began to take off into the sky with the dinosaur in tow. Jet Jaguar shot into the air after them. King Ghidorah flew high into the sky and above clouds. When King Ghidorah felt like he had flown high enough, he released Godzilla. Jet Jaguar tried to reach for Godzilla to stop his fall, only for the robot to be shot down by Gravity Beams. Godzilla crashed to the ground; followed by Jet Jaguar hitting the dirt as well.

Gigan and Megalon had taken their fight up into the sky. Megalon tried to take out Gigan with his Napalm Bombs and electrical bolts, but the cyborg was able to outmaneuver him. Gigan flies across over Megalon with his buzzsaw, cutting off the beetle’s wings. Megalon, no longer being able to fly, crashes to the ground. Gigan’s victory was cut short as he was struck down by Gravity Beams.

After Gigan crashes to the ground, King Ghidorah lands behind him, and uses his right and left necks to wrap around the cyborg’s arms to hold him back up. King Ghidorah roars to Megalon to attack Gigan. Megalon obeys as he puts his drill-hands together to make one big spinning drill, and comes charging towards the trapped Gigan. The bird-like alien tries to free himself, but King Ghidorah has a strong grip on him. Godzilla gets up in time to see what Megalon and King Ghidorah were up to. While Godzilla didn’t like Gigan, he wasn’t going to let Ghidorah and Megalon have their way. Godzilla fires an Atomic Ray at King Ghidorah’s back that causes the golden dragon pain and let go of Gigan. With Megalon a few inches away, Gigan took off into the air, and the big drill stabbed into King Ghidorah's chest. King Ghidorah roared in pain as the drill went on cutting into his body. Megalon was so shocked, that he didn’t think of stopping the drill. King Ghidorah fired Gravity Beams that blasted Megalon away from him. But the damage was already done, as there was a big hole in King Ghidorah's chest.

King Ghidorah got into another fight with Godzilla and Jet Jaguar, while Gigan and Megalon went back to fighting each other. Godzilla fires an Atomic Ray at the hole in King Ghidorah's chest that causes an explosion to go off within the golden dragon. King Ghidorah was down on the ground, as most of his body was destroyed.

Gigan swings his right hook that takes out both of Megalon’s big-ball eyes. The alien puts Megalon in a bear-hug, and uses his buzzsaw to cut into the bug. Megalon was in so much pain as his whole stomach was cut open. When Gigan was done, he pushes Megalon down to the ground. The hurt and weakened Megalon uses the last of his strength to go underground to head back to Seatopia.

Gigan looks for King Ghidorah, only to find the golden dragon nearly dead. While Gigan wanted to be the one to kill King Ghidorah, he was more pleased that his ex-partner is slowly dying. Gigan then notices Godzilla looking at him. The two giant monsters were debating if they should fight each other. But Jet Jaguar gets in between Godzilla and Gigan, and convince them not to fight. Gigan decided he had enough anyway, and takes off into the air to find somewhere else to rest. After Godzilla and Jet Jaguar shake hands, the dinosaur heads back to his home on Monster Island. Jet Jaguar returns back to his normal size, and returns home with his human friends.

While Megalon may have returned home, he was in poor shape. The Seatopians were saddened and horrified to see Megalon in this state, and were angry at the one that crippled their god. Emperor Antonio vowed revenge on Gigan and the rest of the surface world.

Back to King Ghidorah, he was fighting to stay alive, but it was a losing battle against death. However, fate wasn’t done with the space dragon as eight Garoga Flying Saucers had appeared. The Saucers used their tractor beam to transport King Ghidorah off the planet.

We now go into the Zone Fighter TV Series. Episodes one to four would play out the same. It’s episode five when things start to change again. The Garogas had just finished turning the three-headed monster into a cyborg, now named, Mecha-King Ghidorah. MKG would have machine parts just like his counterpart from the Heisei Series.

Now when Zone Fighter gets into a fight with MKG, the Meteor Man is having trouble. Because of being a cyborg, Ghidorah is much stronger than his canon self. The Zone Family would call in Godzilla to save Zone Fighter. But even with Godzilla joining the battle, he and Zone Fighter would still be no match for MKG.

Lucky for Godzilla and Zone Fighter, they get more help as Gigan shows up and attacks MKG. But the thing is, Gigan doesn’t care about the Monster King or the Meteor Man. When Gigan found out that Ghidorah was still alive, all he wanted to do was put an end to the three-headed monster. Gigan is able to get good hits on MKG, but it was only a matter of time for the bird monster to be out matched by the metal dragon as well.

This is where Godzilla and Gigan put aside their differences, and they, along with Zone Fighter, work together to fight MKG. Pretty soon the tables are turned for MKG as he is getting overwhelmed by the teamwork of the three giants. Seeing MKG is in danger, the Baron Garoga orders the dragon to return back to the Garoga Space Station. MKG hears the orders, and takes off into space. Gigan and Zone Fighter weren’t going to let MKG get away, and take off after him.

When Gigan and Zone Fighter were in space, they were shocked to find MKG attacking the Garoga Space Station. The cyborg dragon’s system had gotten damaged in the fight on Earth, making him think the Garogas were his enemies.

The Garogas tried to fight back with the station’s weapons and sent out crafts. But the aliens were no match for MKG’s might. Eventually the Garoga Space Station is destroyed, however, MKG gets caught in the explosion.

With the Garogas and MKG gone, Gigan and Zone Fighter head back to Earth. Unknown to the two giants, MKG is still alive. But MKG has suffered damage as his armor has dents and cracks, while his organic body parts are badly burned. With the station gone, MKG was offline, and was just floating in space.

When Hikaru transforms back from his Zone Fighter form, he told his family of what had happened to the Garogas. The Zone Family were all very happy to know that the Garogas’ invasion of Earth is finally over. While there were more Garogas out in space, with the loss of the station, the alien rulers would lose interest in conquering the Earth.

Godzilla would no longer see Gigan as a threat to the Earth, and the alien would no longer see the dinosaur as an enemy. But Godzilla and Gigan wouldn’t be friends, however, the two of them would be on each other’s good side.

We now move onto Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974). Gigan is flying by, until he sees something up ahead. The cyborg stops in the air as he is shocked to see Godzilla fighting Anguirus. Gigan didn’t understand why Godzilla and Anguirus would be fighting each other, as from what he remembers, the two dinosaurs were friends. Gigan did notice Godzilla’s roar is off, and there was some kind of metal within the King’s arm. That’s when Gigan realizes that wasn’t Godzilla, but something else.

What we know would be Mechagodzilla in his Fake Godzilla disguise.

Fake Godzilla was about to break Anguirus’ jaws, until Gigan comes flying in, knocking the imposter away from the spiked dinosaur. Gigan landed next to Anguirus, and offered to help him fight Fake Godzilla. But Anguirus still has a grudge with Gigan, since they were enemies in their first encounter. However, both Anguirus and Gigan do end up fighting Fake Godzilla. While Gigan and Anguirus aren’t working well together, they are overpowering the false king.

Fake Godzilla gets beaten up so bad that his AI gets corrupted. Gigan and Anguirus were going to attack Fake Godzilla some more, until the undercover robot roars to them to stop. Fake Godzilla asks them why they are attacking him, since he is their friend. This causes Anguirus and Gigan to be confused. You see, while Fake Godzilla has info on the real King of the Monsters, his data now makes him believe he really is Godzilla.

Back at the base in the Gyokusen Cave of Okinawa, the Black Hole Aliens were trying to get Fake Godzilla back under their control. But then all the screens in the control room changed, now showing a giant cockroach.

“You don’t seem to understand. Earth isn’t yours to conquer.” The cockroach said.

Suddenly a giant drill tears through the base. The Black Hole Aliens met their end as their base exploded.

Meanwhile, Gigan and Anguirus were wondering what to do with the confused Fake Godzilla, until explosions were going off in a far distance. The three monsters decided to go and checkout what is going on.

When Anguirus, Gigan, and Fake Godzilla arrive at a refinery, they were shocked to see an army of Gigans attacking the area. These were the Gigan Miles’. While the Miles’ did look like the original Gigan, they also look different. In other words, the Gigan Miles' look like the ones seen in Godzilla vs Gigan Rex (2022).

Gigan was angry as he saw his ex-masters had turned members of his species into cyborgs just like him. Gigan roars to the Miles'; telling them that they don’t have to take orders from the Space Hunter Nebula M Aliens. But unlike Gigan, the Miles’ didn’t have freewill as they each have the mind of a machine. Once the Miles' got the orders from their masters, they started to attack the monster trio.

But lucky for Anguirus, Gigan, and Fake Godzilla, the army of Gigans weren’t very strong. However, the number of Miles' were overwhelming the three monsters. But help came for the trio as emerging from a building, the real Godzilla came forth to battle. Fake Godzilla was shocked to see the true King of the Monsters. The doppelganger looked down at his own body to see parts of his flesh were missing, and in their place was metal armor. That’s when Fake Godzilla realized he wasn’t the real Godzilla. But Fake Godzilla had to get back to work as the Miles' were attacking him and the true Godzilla.

Godzilla and his allies were making quick work of the Miles'. The battle came to a halt as bursting out of the ground is Megalon. But he is now a cyborg known as Cyber Megalon.

Now awhile back, the Seatopians wanted revenge on Gigan and the surface world for what happened to Megalon. So, the Seatopians convinced the Space Hunter Nebula M Aliens to team up once again to take over the Earth. The alien cockroaches were the ones that saved Megalon’s life by turning him into a cyborg.

Megalon now looked like a cross between himself and Gigan. Megalon has one big red eye, a buzzsaw in his abdomen, and three big wings on his back.

This pissed off Gigan; First King Ghidorah, an army of Gigans, and now Megalon! Why were there so many cyborgs?! He should be the only cyborg, damn it!

Godzilla and Gigan teamed up against Cyber Megalon, while Anguirus and Fake Godzilla dealt with the remaining Miles'. Gigan and Godzilla were evenly matched with Cyber Megalon, but Anguirus was getting overwhelmed by a group of Gigans. With Anguirus in danger, Fake Godzilla accepted he wasn’t the real King of the Monsters, and burns away his disguise. Anguirus gets saved as Mechagodzilla uses his weapons to take out all the Miles'.

Mechagodzilla and Anguirus join up with Godzilla and Gigan in fighting Cyber Megalon, causing the beetle kaiju to get overpowered. Cyber Megalon uses the rockets behind his wings to get far away from the four monsters, and then hovers in the air.

Six more Miles' show up to help Cyber Megalon. But on Cyber Megalon’s command, the Miles' each remove their power core, causing them to drop dead. Cyber Megalon uses the power cores to power himself up.

Cyber Megalon fires an electrical bolt from his horn, and a Cluster Light Ray from his eye. The two attacks become one powerful beam as it is heading towards the four monsters. Godzilla fires an Atomic Ray and Mechagodzilla fires his Space Beams at the incoming attack. The Space Beams and Atomic Ray were in a beam-lock with Cyber Megalon's attack. But Cyber Megalon's beam was slowly pushing the Space Beams and Atomic Ray back to their owners. However, Gigan flew behind Cyber Megalon, and uses his buzzsaw to cut off the beetle’s horn. With the loss of the star-like weapon, Cyber Megalon's beam got weaker. Godzilla and Mechagodzilla were able to push their attacks forward, and the beams hit Cyber Megalon in his chest and came out of his back. Once Cyber Megalon crashes to the ground, he explodes.

After the battle, Godzilla and Anguirus become friends with Mechagodzilla and Gigan. Mechagodzilla joins the Japan Self-Defense Forces, and becomes a defender of Japan and the Earth. The Seatopians are saddened by Cyber Megalon's death, and give up on their revenge against the surface world. Back on their home world, the Black Hole Aliens are enraged as they couldn’t conquer the Earth. Since Mechagodzilla wasn’t destroyed, the Black Hole Aliens couldn’t use his remains to make Mechagodzilla II. The Black Hole Aliens blame the Space Hunter Nebula M Aliens for ruining their plans. This causes the two alien species to go to war with each other.

A good thing for King Caesar is that he doesn’t need to wake up to get into a fight.

Now we move onto to what would have been Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975). The Black Hole Aliens wouldn’t be involved here. However, Japan would still be in danger of Titanosaurus. When Titanosaurus attacks a city, the JSDF sends Mechagodzilla to combat the aquatic dinosaur. The fight between Mechagodzilla and Titanosaurus is about equally matched, until Godzilla and Gigan shows up. By working together, Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, and Gigan overpower and eventually kill Titanosaurus. So yeah, that threat is taken care of easily.

Now we go into 1999 with the events of Destroy All Monsters (1968). Gigan and many of Earth's monsters would be placed on Monster Land to be studied by humans. Although the monsters are held against their will, through a combination of gas and magnetic walls, they’re able to gorge on food, leaving them relatively docile. Unfortunately, Gigan, along with the rest of the Monster Land's inhabitants, were taken over and controlled by the Kilaakian.

The rest of the movie would play out the same, up to where Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and Manda are attacking Tokyo. Instead of using rockets and missiles against the four monsters, the JSDF would send Mechagodzilla to fight them. While Mechagodzilla hated the idea of fighting Godzilla, he couldn’t let Tokyo get destroyed.

The fight was going in Mechagodzilla’s favor as he had killed Mothra and Manda, while brutally injuring Godzilla and Rodan. However, the Kilaakian send in Gigan to back up their two monsters. Mechagodzilla is now on the losing side as he gets overpowered by Gigan, Godzilla, and Rodan. With no choice, Mechagodzilla is forced to retreat, leaving the three monsters to cause more destruction to Tokyo.

After that, the movie would be the same again, until we get to the point where the humans managed to regain control of the monsters. Godzilla, Gigan, Mechagodzilla, Minilla, Rodan, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Kumonga, Baragon, and Varan would be at Mount Fuji to attack the alien base. However, the Kilaakian would send in, not one, but two Ghidorahs to fight the monsters. Godzilla and Gigan would be shocked to see both King Ghidorah and Mecha-King Ghidorah.

Sometime before the Kilaakian came to invade Earth, they came across Mecha-King Ghidorah, who was just floating in space as he was still offline. The Kilaakian made repairs to Mecha-King Ghidorah, as they wanted the cyborg dragon as their own weapon.

Now you may be wondering; aren’t King Ghidorah and Mecha-King Ghidorah the same guy here? Well, according to some sources, there are two King Ghidorahs in the Showa Universe. One that appeared in the 60's and 1999, and another one that appeared in the 70's. Mecha-King Ghidorah is the one from the 70's that had worked for the Space Hunter Nebula M Aliens.

This pissed off both Godzilla and Gigan; not only was there one Ghidorah still alive, but it turns out there are two of them. Gigan, Mechagodzilla, Godzilla, and the rest of Earth’s monsters jumped into action against King Ghidorah and Mecha-King Ghidorah. Yeah, this time Baragon and Varan have to take part in the fight.

After a long and tough battle, Gigan, Mechagodzilla, and the Earth monsters beat and kill the two Ghidorahs. Following the Kilaakian’s permanent defeat, Gigan and the monsters of Earth return to Monster Land, while Mechagodzilla heads back to the JSDF base.

One day on Monster Land, Gigan is setting at the shoreline, watching the sun going down. Gigan was thinking back to his adventures with Godzilla, and thought about what would have happened if he never turned to the side of good. The cyborg heard the sound of two roars, and turns around to see Godzilla and Anguirus. Godzilla offers Gigan to have some sparing matches with him and Anguirus. Which Gigan gladly accepts.

The space monster was very happy to have a home on this small blue world.

If you have made it this far, thank you very much for reading this scenario. So yeah, Gigan turning good made big changes to the Showa Universe. If you could, please give the story a reply. If you think things would have gone differently with Gigan as a good guy, let me know in the comments. Also, let me know if you want to see more Godzilla What Ifs like this.

Anyway, that’s all. I hope you all enjoyed my fanfic. Goodbye.

So, this is something I had made on Deviantart. Since the CBUB now has a place for full stories, I decided to post my Godzilla What If here.
