Skirmisher
I know what you'll say. That power level system in still applicble, they just stopped using it, and I'll ask for proof and you'll give me proof and I'll refute it, and it goes around and around in a circular arguement. We need something solid that will quantify as actual proof. A>B>C logic is no good, cause that means Deathstroke is FTL. problem is, skirmisher, you assume that the faster you are, your sight increases with your speed. The fastest man on Earth does not see things any slower than the slowest man. However the Fastest man on the Planet can't use his Ki to strengthen his natural abilities. A Z-Fighters Speed, his Strength, his Agility all come from his Ki, They have even developed a Ki sense to allow them to see perceive events faster than a Regular Human. All of this they've shown can be Amplified through training. So while a regular Human can't increase how fast he sees the Z-Fighters Can.

My point is that just because this guy is FTS to this guy who is FTS to this guy, it does not have anything to do with speed or FTL travel. Skirmisher
I never said they couldn't. I know that they can. My point is that just because this guy is FTS to this guy who is FTS to this guy, it does not have anything to do with speed or FTL travel. Point Conceded. However there is still the point of Goku in Dragon Ball was clocked at 1/2 the speed of light when he dodged Lightning as part of his training. That gives a rough Base Speed Feat from which to improve upon. The Question is though How much faster does a person have to be before they can Speed Blitz another. I'm talking Bare Minimum speed necessary for this "Ability"... Also another point is this: Found HereIt should be noted that, when factoring in the edge one has over an opponent, the difference in power levels as a flat number is not important, but rather, the difference in power levels as a percentage. For example, when Goku (as a child) fought King Piccolo, he was thrown around like a rag doll, and the power levels of Piccolo and Goku then were 260 and 180, respecitvely; this made Piccolo 44% stronger than Goku. On the other hand, when Super Saiyan Goku fought Frieza at 100% power, their power levels were 150 million and 120 million, respectively. Goku was only 25% stronger than Frieza, and so the fight was (at least in the beginning) somewhat even, despite the fact that Goku had a power level of 30 million greater than Frieza's If we were to gague their power levels at first recorded instance and last recorded instance and then factor in Goku's Base Speed then here is what we get. Freeza: Power Level of 120,000,000Goku Power Level of 180 to 260 (At time of Speed Feat) 120,000,000/220 = Freeza is 54545454% Faster, Stronger and more Durable than Goku at that time. Meaning that Freeza is 54545454% faster than 149,896,229m/s This seems like an Extremely Huge number as Freeza would be many times Light Speed, though it does make some sense as Goku has a Feat for Escaping a Point Blank Detonation Blast and then appearing on the other side of Namek in only a Fraction of a Second. Guest Diskyr
I would like to buy a ticket to Japan one day, stomp over Toriyama's apartment door, and ask him, " What is the max DBZ characters can weigh " or " What is the powerlevel of SSJ 1000000 Gogeta " If only Toriyama applied some good science to DBZ, maybe then DBZ fans ( not fanboys ) like myself would have a better chance at debating with marvelites and DC guys
Skirmisher
I wonder if a graph could be used to plot power level data. After all the first point would be 5 for base human. Strength for that base human would be roughly average, so about 150lbs to 200lbs. The Base speed would be 6 to 7 meters per second. Destructive energy blast would be a problem though as certain techniques are necessary, and every technique varies. Not to mention that base humans don't know any sort of Ki blast techniques... Not sure where the next strength point would go... Maybe Goku cutting and carrying that giant tree? Well, it looked like a redwood, so that would mean that it would have a density of about 500 kg/m3 it was perhaps between 50 and 75 meters, and was easily 3-4 meters in diameter. Since V = pi r2 h then (3.14 x 1.52 x 50) 500 = ~176,500 kgs (Low End) and (3.14 x 22 x 75) 500 = ~471,000 kgs. Say and average of 323,750 kg or 323.75 tons. Goku did that at a power level of 334. Goku while fighting Freeza had a power level of 3,000,000 and was able to lift around a million tons of rock. Speed wise we could consider that the Z-Fighters were faster than human sight at a power level of 140, when they started to use the After Image technique. This would mean that they would have to move at least a meter every 24th of a second. Meaning that they would have to be moving at about 24m/s, which is about 4 times faster at a power level of 140 than a normal human at a level of 5. As well, Goku at a power level of ~260 was fast enough to dodge Lightning, meaning that he should be 60,000 m/s. So we now have three points to plot on a graph for both strength and speed. Does anyone remember the math to do this, it's been ages for me since I've done any exponential graph equations... wait, wasn't it something like: y = ax2 + bx + c
Guest Dark Ranger X
Yeah. Good point. I mean, George Lucas has explicitly said the Enterprise-D could beat a Star Destroyer, and all of the fans would argue quite convincingly otherwise.. The fact that the Enterprise-D has AT LEAST Voyager level weaponry, and Voyager was able to wipe out a Borg Sphere... ...yeah, I think Lucas is right. As for the DBZ thing, I got nothing. All I know from my DBZ fan days, is that Gohan had the *potential* to be the most powerful character (given the fact he was ALMOST as strong as a SSJ3 without transforming) but he slackened off training to become a family man. That's all I've got.

Guest Warcry80
I guess you have to take a few things into play when it comes to strength and speed in DBZ.Goku carrying a giant redwoofd on his back in early DBZ days with no strain.Goku lifting and tossing a large building sized king Piccollo who was beyond 100 Tons in weightGoku punching a giant underground drill tank across a lavabed with one shot. Tanks weigh around 60 to 70 tons yet this thing was larger. Goku catching a large chunk of Namake thrown by Freeza which was near mountainsized (The art was just a bit bad)Goku pushing apart the large near mountain like structure vs Kid Buu.( The art was bad there as well just look at the tallest trees they were drawn tiny compared to the structure)Goku training with 40 tons of weight in 10 times earths gravity = 400 tons easily on the body.Non Cannon GT Goku at SS2 punching 17 across the planet. Thats far beyond class 100Non Canon GT Goku lifting half a city back into place ( That has to be millions of Tons or more)GT Goku sending a due to bad drawings a skyscraper at times sized baby whos finger nail was larger than he was.Babei in his Ozarruu form ripped half a mountain apart and threw it. Goku vs Freeza for speedGoku vs Cell for speed / power since their punches were causing earthquakes and missed punches were destroying large Rock formations. After saying all of that I think the only way we will know is if Akira Toyriama himself whats Goku's Max speed, Power, and Strength level compared to Marvel/DC scale system. Which he possibbly wouldn't know because he created the DBZ cast and Sayins such as Goku with a snowball that even he has no way of stopping. (The ability to constantly become stronger in life and death)!!
Guest chaos-with-honor
I believe that the easiest way to look at the power levels would be to use them as a multiplier for a base level strength. Then the "over 9000" and related comments begin to make more sense. This also accounts for how Chi Chi still has a head after concieving Goten ( ex, Hancock). Note that the characters must concentrate their essences to increase their strength/speed, etc. The trick then is to find a baseline strength to multiply. If we assume that the average human max press is 150 lbs. (and that this would be an intergalactic standard) then having a power level of 9000 means having an amplified max press of 135000 lbs. or 675 tons. With Frieza's power level being 150,000 at the time of Namek's destruction, that puts his amplified max press at 22,500,000 lbs. or 11,250 tons. As for speed, the same scale could apply. One must simply find a base speed.
IKA
Goku training with 40 tons of weight in 10 times earths gravity = 400 tons easily on the body. Correction it was 40 tons on every weight.. 40 X 10 = 400 X 4 = 1,600 Just saying...

Guest Shadow Flesh
*opens door* *sees people attempting to clarify/regular DBZ feats* *skull spontaneously explodes* *lower body closes door* I'm really respecting how everyone on this thread is trying to sensibly coordinate a somewhat official and understandable way to classify the power levels and feats of DBZ. But the actual story of DBZ itself isn't successful in showing or telling how powers fluctuate from season to season and from character to character. Saiyan Saga Vegeta's Gallic Gun = could destroy the earth = one of Cell's charged up kamehameha waves???? Thats all from me. just had to say after I tryied for so many years on different sites and threads. Good Luck

Guest Ruinus
Apperantly Respect threads aren't meant for debate, however, I will say this: I have a copy of the Toriyama Quote. Except that the article has the following statement, in red. Project Fanboy has yet to uncover whether the article is legit or simply a hoax a DBZ fanboy may have put on the internet to defend their case in the ongoing "Are DBZers FTL?" debate.BTW: Look up Super Otaku Magazine on Google. Woah, no official website eh? Very odd, considering the "Issue #297" statement. You'd think a magazine with around 300 issues would have a website. Or at least SOME sort of website dedicated to it. What about the interviewer, Nirazaki Tihashiberi? Google his name too. The only reference to him is from the same article. The article, therefore, is fake. You guys will have to prove DBZ people are FTL some other way. Good luck in that.

Though since we are on the topic of Speed, I still believe that they do go damned incredibly fast. And that there is a type of DBZ Hyper Time where speeds are observed Relative to the Fighters increased perceptions. Although I can't prove without a doubt that they are any speed other than Really Fast, I do believe that their speeds are fairly close to Light, definitely above 50% c in the least. Guest Ruinus
BTW: A power level thread are easy. Farmer.DBZ Power Levels - by AdamDBZ Power Levels - by beatdown That's a standard human. With a gun. Power level 5. Let's pretend that the power level 5 is for the farmer himself, and not the farmer with a shotgun. Average human running speed is 4.4704 m/s.*Average human lifting weight is 68 kg.** *I read anywhere from 5-15 mph. I used 10.** Average can apperantely lift own body weight, average body weight is 150 lb. So, farmer's power level of 5 means he can lift 68 kg, and run 4.47m/s. Hence, every 1 point is equal to lifting 13.6 kg and run .89 m/s. There you go, now you can put these figures into whatever power number rating you guys want. Goku at 9,000? 9,000*13.6kg = 122,469 kg.9,000*.89m/s = 8046.72 m/s. There's your power level thread. Of course, this all goes on the assumption that the power levels are actually reliable and not giant bullshit. Or that power levels is both strenght and speed, isntead of simply being strenght and not speed.
Skirmisher
Hence, every 1 point is equal to lifting 13.6 kg and run .89 m/s.Flawed Logic The Power Levels appear to hold the characteristic of an Exponential Growth rather than a Linear Growth... Meaning that 1 pl =/= 13.6kg and 0.89m/s, but rather something slower, even marginally slower... Where as larger values will be much higher the further up the scale.
