Punch Out Wii

Off the bat, I have never played the NES Punch Out, nor any of the others. As By the time I'm 18, it's likely that I will not be able to play them, unless if they're put in Wii Shop. Therefore, this game will be judged more on its own merits rather than those of its precedessors. A beloved series, fans have been clamoting for a sixth gen remake. It has arrived, but does it stand up to its elders?

Originality-8

Highly charming charecters with entertaing xeneter, atics. Containg foes from all over the land from the French and pitifully horrible boxer Glass Joe to the steryotypical tough black Mike Tyson like Mr. Sandman, not to mention the mainstay boxers like King Hippo and Bald Bull. These charecters gimmicks would be fit to be in the 80s WWF and it fits here. However, as they only added one new charecter, Disco Kid, points are detucted for lack of newcomers. It's as if they are afraid to arouse the fans by adding charecters not fit to be in the Punch Out series.

Graphics- 7

The graphics are not on the par of Halo 3 or even Super Smash Brothers Brawl but they don't need to be. The style is reminsecent of a cartoon series. That only increases the charm. Fight Night fans should not get this game expcting graphics on the level of the other profilic boxing series, nor for other factors, as I will soon tell.

Gameplay 9

This is not a boxing game where you can be completly be on the offense. Fight Night or other boxing game fans should not get this game if that is what they want most. This game involves dodging and strking, exploting thier weakness. If they block or you are hit, you will tire and if it hits 0, you will be purple, slower, and more recpticle to damage. The only way to bring it up is to dodge, bringing un that this game is about hit and run strategey and exploiting weakness. Do not worry too much if your lifebar is drained for as in all boxing games, you can get up. Hit the Boxers at key times{when they flash} to earn a star. This can be used for a Star Uppercut. If you are hit, you lose the star. You can use it as long as you have one star, but the more you have the greater the damage. This can change the tide of battle, so use it wisely. There are three ways to play. Nunchuck and Wii Remote, Wii Remote, or Balance Board. As i do not have the latter, I will instead explain the first two.

The Nunchuck and Wii Remote play almost excatly the same way as Wii Boxing{Wii Sports}, with little button pressing. You do a jab motion with either hand for a left or right jab respectivel. Same with hooks. Move from side to side to dodge. For a Star Uppercut, uppercut motion. This may tire you physicaly and detectabilty problems may surface.

The Wii Remote by itself is a more tradational style. Flipping the Wii Remote by its side uses the buttons and Directional pads to play. 1 and 2 results in right and left jabs to the stomach respectively. Press up on the directonal pad to hit the head with the same buttons above. Star Uppercuts use A or - buttons.

If you are a more stationary gamer or are more used to the old controls, use the Wii Remote style. If you are a more physical gamer go for the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Either way results in a great rush, almost bordering on adreaniline, and soon you will be dodging and hitting without thinking.

Story-7

A basic story. You are thrust into the role of Little Mac with no background for the charecter himself, aside from age and birthplace. This works, however, as it results in you making up a life story for the charecter, establishing a better bond. Picture cinematics give you a little background for your charecter.Trained by the choclate obssessed and former heavyweight Doc Louis, you go through the Minor,Major, and World circuts. When you defeat the fast and powerful champion Mr. Sandman. You go through Title Defense mode, fighting the opponets again, now more difficult and learned thier ways, resulting in you needing to find more weaknesses. After winning and still champion, Mac's last Stand begins. The charecters even tougher than before, if you lose 3 times you retire. It's highly difficult to go throught this mode, but if you do, a suprise from a Nintendo charecter from another series awaits. With Training montages for every circuit, it is a great parody of underdog boxer stories and needs no futher story explaniation.

Overall 9

A exhilariting game where you do not simply punch, you dodge and captitalize. The charecters are charming, the gameplay great, and you find yourself cheering for Little Mac to go all the way.

Have you played the game? What do you think about it? Has this review helped you? Comment and let me know.

SPOILERSSSS!

The game based on X-Men Origins:Wolverine is better than most movie based video games. However, it still has plenty of flaws.

Originality-5

Being based off a movie game, this is no suprise. There are no new charecters introduced of note besides Carol Frost, who was very generic. Ultimatly no inovation.

Graphics-7

Standard fare. The blood seems cool and awesome early due to you never expecting Wolverine to be in a M game after being arguably milked. However, the wow factor wears thin later, and the blood stays the same. Decapatation brings no more blood than a simple slash through a chest. From what i seen, robots have the same blood as humans, making you think that the developers fail biology forever.

Gameplay-7

Ultimately, it all comes down to one word. Pounce. This move defeats almost all enemies quickly and efficently. This may be exhilarating at first, but it soon becomes repititive. Trying to instead use melee attacks instead becomes just as boring, as the gmeplay wears thin. However, it wears thin late into the game. You can feel how violent Logan can be. How he can defeat anything. You feel adrenaline and feral rage as you cut through many groups of foes. Quick kills bring much blood and often gain satasfaction. Melee attacks decimate foes, sometimes severing limbs and rendering them whimpering and screaming in agony. As sadistic as it sounds, I found it most enjoying. Sometimes pouncing foes result in them yelling in fear as they are quickly killed. Injury them enough and ground them or prepare for quick kill, they beg you not to kill them. If you don't, they'll just attack again, plus killing them despite thier pleas bring primal satisfaction. Your healing factor saves you from death for almost the whole game and this decreases the challenge.

Boss fights are all the same. Simple button mashing will defeat small bosses, and pounces will defeat giant ones. The only good one was the Senitel fight. Quite epic.

While it does wear thin near the end, it's still fun for a while.

Story-5

This is biased, as my fanboyism and love for deadpool is well known, but they screwed him up even more. Not one wisecrack. Not ONE. He just seems like a sadistic bastard. While that may be true, he's a sadistic bastard with a sense of humor. Nord{Agent X} has more humor than him. Don't forget him becoming Weapon XI.

With that out of the way, the rest of the story is forgettable. Wolverine's love intrest is killed. Stryker gives him the skeleton to defeat him. Stryker wants to kill him. Logan escapes. Goes on a revenge spree. The Africa subplot is good, but not great.

Mentions of Emma being the love intrest's sister is removed, thank godness. However, assuming this game takes place in the 3 X films contuinity, it brings up a noticable plot hole. If Logan rescues Mystique's husnand, Wraith, why does she want to kill him later. Wraith is still killed following Logan, but futher explaination would've been great. The Senitel attack at the end makes you wonder how Xavier had not heard of it and try recruiting Logan. Liev Creed needed more lines. Gambit's voice actor was HORRIBLE. Why they didn't hire the guy who voiced Gambit in Wolverine and The X-Men I do not know.

Overall-6

The games greatest asset is the wow factor and sheer violence of the game. After it wears out, it is a perfectly average game. Should you get it? Yes. As this will probably be the only time you see the truely violent Logan in the comics.

Did you like this game? did you hate it? Has this review helped you? Comment.
