Boratz Posted August 4 Read Aloud Posted August 4 Chapter 80: The Fight for Altamid Prt. 1 - First Strike The destruction of the facility was overwhelming, but with the combined efforts of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Fennec Shand, and Wolverine; they were able to recover schematics and intel of the facility's layout. Most importantly, they were able to recover details surrounding the teleportation device that utilized wormholes. Even with his best efforts, Wolverine was unable to put an end to the ancient Gen'Dai bounty hunter. After a battle that ended in a stalemate, Durge escaped in the portal machine before the facility was destroyed. Juggernaut was incapacitated by the Guardians and Gazelle was killed by Fennec Shand. Despite his escape, the portal device was able to keep a record of where the Gen'Dai warrior had been sent to. Tony Stark, Reed Richards, and Bruce Wayne worked diligently to reverse engineer the device with the schematics that were taken so that they could create their own teleportation device. Despite the original design by Professor Robert Callaghan being advanced and difficult to understand, the trio eventually was able to move forward with the successful creation of the device. The challenging part came from the advancements of the machine that was done by Buddy Pine. After many failed tests and many deliberations, they finally achieved what they were hoping for. Instant universal wide transportation would give them the key to helping defeat the Council in this dreadful war. Despite their success and achieved in unlocking this scientific breakthrough, they still had the issue of corruption surrounding the world governments. After discussing amongst themselves, they invited Charles Xavier to use his telepathic abilities with the assistance of Cerebro to coordinate discussions amongst allies from across the globe. With Nick Fury's access to the communication devices provided to him by the New Republic, the deliberations were not only limited to Earth but also reached the friends that they made in the galaxy far, far away as well as allies in the United Federation of Planets. After much discussion, they learned that there were multiple planets scattered throughout the universe that were being targeted. There were several space routes that were under control of different enemy forces. Planets such as Pandora had already been lost to the Golden Army and were in the process of being stripped of its resources. The United Federations of Planets were in the process of trying to thwart some of the attacks that were happening in the different space routes, but resources were stretched thin. As the conversation continued, the United Federation of Planets did bring to attention a planet that was in the process of being invaded based on readings that they had recovered from one of their scouting crews. The United Federation of Planets found it unusual as it did not contain the resources of the other planets being raided or taken. Altamid was an M-Class planet in the Altamid system. This planet was found inside the Necro-cloud Nebula and was located somewhere in the Alpha and Beta Quadrant. It was once thought to have been inhabited by an advanced, space-faring civilization, but their records had been lost overtime. Altamid was characterized by massive subterranean development with little-to-no lifeforms detectable from orbit. Despite showing little to no signs of life, it held a great deal of plant life and thick forests. On all accounts, there was nothing special about this planet. It did not hold a tactical advantage. Although, the planet held one significant detail. It was the same planet that Durge had used the portal to escape to. While many thought about simply ignoring the planet, there was a small number that thought that they needed to investigate it further. Some were driven by emotion in wanting to find the Gen'Dai bounty hunter and bring him to justice while others thought that they could capture him for questioning. With the uncertainty of the dangers that the planet itself possessed or the number of enemy forces that were stationed on the planet, they had trouble trying to determine who would be sent into this unknown world. "We can go, Professor." A familiar voice called out from behind the X-Men's founder. Charles closed his eyes and let out an uneasy sigh. He had seen his astonishing team pull off amazing feats of heroism in the past. He had no doubt in his team, but the distance was far too great. "Professor, we can do this." Scott reassured him as he walked next to his mentor. "I fear that this journey will take you far from home." Xavier said with uncertainty. "We've been far from home before. We all have. You have trained us for this, Professor. You've prepared us for the dangers of this world. Now it is time for us, not only to fight for our world but for our universe." It was decided. The X-Men were to venture through the portal and into this unknown world. While most of the team stayed behind in the Mansion, Scott selected a group that would travel with him on this mission. Jean Grey, Beast, Colossus, and Nightcrawler were going to travel with him to this strange new planet. Meanwhile, Storm was going to stay behind with the others to look after their home in the event any trouble came knocking. The Blackbird roared to life while lifting high up into the air. Scott was turning the different switches and knobs while getting the craft under control. Jean took a steady breath as she saw the outline of the teleportation device up ahead. Nightcrawler said a silent prayer while Beast and Colossus were preparing themselves for what was about to happen. Even with all the tests conducted by Tony Stark, Reed Richards, and Bruce Waye, there was still a level of uncertainty as they were about to travel through this wormhole. Without a second thought, Scott flew the Blackbird forward and through the outline of the wormhole. Lights flicked inside the jet while alarms started chirping. The entire aircraft shook violently as darkness surrounding them. Suddenly, blinding light shined from all directions and then in an instant, they appeared on the other side of the wormhole. Like Earth, the skies above were blue with clouds of white scattered throughout. The ground below was covered in dense green forests and sharp rock spires. Visually, there were many similarities to Earth, but it was the differences that the X-Men knew that they had to watch out for. They could not allow themselves to fall victim to underestimating a planet that was not their own. As the Blackbird flew across this planet's skyline, a strong turbulence came over the jet. With fast reflexes and strong aviation experience, Scott was able to regain control of the jet. There was a clearing up ahead that seemed to be a perfect spot to land. Once the Blackbird safely landed, the field leader of the X-Men turned to face the rest of the team. Nightcrawler had a child-like curiosity about him as his eyes were pressed against the window. The acrobatic teleporter was looking at the world around to see what all marvels there were on this planet. Beast was looking over a computer to see if he could pick up on any energy readings while Colossus was getting to his feet and walking around the cabin. Jean's hand rose up to her head before closing her eyes. She let out a sigh before turned her eyes back to Scott. "I don't think he's here." "What did find?" Scott asked as he gazed upon his love. "The bounty hunter that was in Logan's briefing is not here." Jean said softly with an uneasy look on her face. "Then did we waste a trip here?" Colossus asked as he stepped closer toward Scott and Jean. "We are not alone on this planet." Jean said with certainty. "There is something... Something wrong here." "What? What is it, Jean? Scott asked with concern. "I don't know..." Jean replied. Scott nodded before rising to his feet. "I hate doing this, but there is a lot of ground to cover. We need to split up to cover more ground. If there is something here, we need to find out what it is. We will rendezvous back here in a couple hours to "What is it that we are searching for exactly?" Beast asked inquisitively. "Signs of life... Anything out of the ordinary..." Scott replied. "Out of the ordinary... On an alien planet.... Makes sense." Colossus said jokingly. After the X-Men split up into different directions, Scott was heading south alongside a river. The soothing flow of the river was almost comforting for the field leader of the X-Men. As he walked alongside the river, there was a part of him that longed for the day that he and Jean could leave all of this behind. Maybe one day, they could live in a cabin alongside a river with no thoughts of war or worries of looming threats. As he continued to walk, he knew most of that was simply a fantasy. Even if they could achieve a victory in this universal war that they found themselves in, there was always another threat. Whether it was a threat to mutant-kind or the world ending threat that demanded their attention. Cyclops stopped for a moment to gaze at the gentle flow of the river. He took a deep breath in through his nose while looking over the river. With a gentle sigh, he smiled and nodded. This was his calling. Whether it was leading the X-Men against enemy threats or protecting the innocence, he knew that is what he was here to do. An all too familiar sound echoed over the gentle noise of the flowing river. Scott's ears perked up while he raised his head to look away from the river. He could hear the whimpering cries of a young child. His brow furrowed underneath his visors as he looked toward the direction of the sound. Without a second thought, the field leader of the X-Men ran toward the sound of the whimpering cries. He charged into the thick and dense forest while heading in the direction of the whimpering child. Rushing over thorns and thickets, the X-Men leader saw an opening in the trees up ahead. After running out of the trees, he discovered the sound was coming from within a mountain. There was a narrow opening in the heart of the mountain, which was the source of the child's cry. Part of him was hesitant to venture into this strange cave as he did not know what dangerous lied ahead. Remembering his thoughts down by the river, he knew that this was his calling. There was a young life that was possibly in danger, and that is something he could not ignore. The X-Man made his way into the deep, dark cave. As he ventured deep into the cave, he soon found the source of the whimpering cries. There was an alien child that was crying and whimpering uncontrollably. Scott tried to calm down the young child, but the young alien spoke in a language that he could not understand. With simple hand gestures, he tried to reassure the child that he was not a threat. He tried to reassure her that he was there to help. Suddenly, the child panicked and darted off into the darkness. Before Scott could follow the child, the ground started to shake with what sounded like footsteps. Turning his head, Cyclops could see the outline of a massive and towering figure approaching him. With what little light shined inside the cave, he could see a single eye in the center of the creature's head. The gigantic creature carried a massive battle hammer that looked as if it could crush boulders with ease. The creature started to laugh as it's eye fell upon the X-Man. "Talk 'bout bein' in the wrong place at the wrong time!" The massive creature grumbled as he spun that battle hammer in his hands. "You don't want this!" Cyclops warned as his hands raised up to his visors. ************ This takes place after the events of Fennec Shand's battle with Gazelle, Wolverine's battle with Durge, and the Guardians of the Galaxy's battle with Juggernaut. While the facility that they were fighting in was destroyed, they were able to recover schematics and plans for the portal wormhole device. Reed Richards, Tony Stark, and Bruce Wayne were able to reverse engineer the schematics, and create their own portal device. In wanting to continue their fight against the Council, the heroes sent the X-Men to an unknown planet that had a lot of activity on it from enemy forces. After arriving on the planet, Cyclops decided that the team needed to split up so that they can get a better idea of what the planet offered During Cyclops' trek, he discovered a young alien child being pursued by a massive cyclops in a dark cave. The massive cyclops corners Cyclops in the cave after Scott tries to help the young alien child. Scott realizes that he has to fight his way out. Quote
