Mercenaryblade Posted May 15 Read Aloud Posted May 15 A razor-thin beam of red light cut across the darkened museum gallery like a tripwire spun from laser-thread. Beneath it, the jeweled Eye of Bastet rested in its glass case, glittering under moonlight spilling through the skylight above. And crouched atop the display pedestal, was the Crimson Paw. Diane’s black and yellow catsuit hugged every precise movement as though it had been painted onto her frame. She tilted a compact mirror shard into the security beam, redirecting it with surgeon-like precision. The detector remained blissfully unaware. “Museum security really has gotten depressing,” she murmured. “At this point I’m practically stealing from children.” Her clawed fingertips brushed the glass case. The gallery exploded with light. “Freeze right there, Crimson Paw!” Diane didn’t flinch. Slowly, almost theatrically, she turned toward the voice. Agent Lucy Wilde stepped from behind a marble pillar in a no nonsense high collared suit dress, twin electro-batons unfolding into her hands with a vicious snap-hiss. Blue sparks danced along the metal rods, reflecting in her narrowed eyes. She looked confident. Or perhaps trying too hard to look confident. “Well,” Diane said smoothly, rising to her full height atop the pedestal, “the Anti-Villain League finally sent someone competent-ish.” Lucy pointed a baton at her. “You’re surrounded.” Diane glanced around the completely empty gallery. “…By your optimism?” Lucy huffed, “Keep joking. You’re still under arrest.” “Mm. That’s cute.” Diane vaulted lightly off the pedestal, landing inches away from Lucy with feline grace. A faint blush flickered across Lucy’s face before she snapped back into focus. “Don’t try that charm routine on me.” “Oh, I don’t try, darling.” Lucy groaned. “You are unbelievably annoying.” “And yet you tracked me across three countries.” Diane circled her slowly, boots clicking softly against polished marble. “That kind of dedication feels personal.” “It’s called doing my job.” Lucy replied. “Is that what they’re calling obsession now?” Lucy swung a baton with full force. Diane leaned back just enough for the electrified strike to skim harmlessly past her snout. “There it is,” Diane purred. “I was wondering when the claws would come out.” Lucy lunged again, this time with precision. Baton strikes snapped through the air in sharp arcs, forcing Diane backward across the gallery floor. Diane moved like flowing silk, twisting, ducking, flipping over a display case with impossible agility. Lucy pursued her relentless. “Surely you can do better?” Diane called while balancing atop a dinosaur fossil exhibit. Lucy hurled a baton. Diane caught it cleanly out of the air. The thief examined the crackling weapon with amused curiosity before tossing it casually behind her. Lucy blinked. “...Okay, that was actually kind of cool.” “I know, right?” Diane called down. “I’m still taking you in!” Lucy bellowed. “You’re welcome to try.” The Crimson Paw replied.
