Death was not a release; it was merely a temporary inconvenience for a hatred as absolute as Maul’s. When Obi-Wan Kenobi’s blade finally brought him down on the twin suns of Tatooine in 2 BBY, Maul did not embrace the Force. Instead, his spirit—steeped in decades of Dathomirian Nightsister magick and an unrelenting, consuming rage—lingered in the void between life and death. He refused to fade, holding onto his pain like a weapon

For years, he was a ghost, until a splinter cult of Crimson Dawn—loyalists who maintained his legacy from the shadows—found an answer. Utilizing forbidden, ancient Sith artifacts scavenged from the nightmare world of Exegol, they performed a dark resurrection. They tethered Maul’s fractured spirit back to a reconstructed physical form, a process of arcane science and agony similar to how Sidious had once cheated the grave.

But the body that returned was not the sharpened killer of the Clone Wars. He is older, fractured, and his cybernetics are archaic, resembling the salvaged, spider-like monstrosity from his time in the Lotho Minor junkyards. His mind is shattered, completely insane, fueled by a delusional, singular obsession: Skywalker blood must be erased.

Maul sat in the center of a jagged, black star-metal circle, the Exegol artifacts—a shard of Sith shrine stone and a twisted, singing kyber crystal—still humming against his chest.

His breathing was harsh, mechanical, and wholly involuntary, yet his heart hammered against his ribs with a manic intensity. He had been nothing, then a scream, and now… this.

Across the room, standing in the shadows of a crimson banner, was a woman with cold, calculating eyes. Not Qi’ra, but a successor who had inherited the Crimson Dawn mantle, a high-ranking loyalist named Eleera.”The spirit of the Shadow Collective has returned,” Eleera said, her voice echoing in the metallic room. “But you are not the leader of this galaxy anymore, Maul. The Empire fell, and rose again, only to be dismantled by something… else.”

Maul stood, his new cybernetic legs locking into place with a terrifying snap. His yellow eyes burned, fixated on the hologram she projected into the air.”

It is a creature born of your own bloodline, in a way,” Eleera continued, the hologram showing a figure clad in unstable black armor, his mask cracked. “They call him Kylo Ren. He is not a Sith, not truly. He is the master of the Knights of Ren, a broken, volatile force that took the fragments of your legacy and forged them into a new, unstable power.”

Maul snarled, his gaze ripping through the image of the crossguard lightsaber, which sparked with a ragged energy reminiscent of the chaotic magic that brought him back.”He is the grandson of Vader,” Eleera revealed, watching Maul’s reaction closely. “He sought to kill his past—his father, his master, his legacy—to become supreme. He is raw, untamed, and entirely unpolished.”

Maul let out a low, guttural laugh that turned into a cough, black ichor dripping from his lip. “Vader’s blood? Sidious’s pet?” ”Snoke’s, actually,” Eleera corrected. “But Ren killed him, too. He leads the First Order, a regime that rose from the ashes of the Empire, but he rules through emotional ruin rather than calculated fear. He is weak in his mind, conflicted, but his power is immense.”

Maul took a step forward, his fingers twitching toward a lightsaber that was not yet on his hip. He felt the cold, lingering dread of Exegol still attached to his spirit, a perfect match for the “nightmare” that this Kylo Ren seemed to inhabit.

”You have been resurrected, Maul, because the galaxy is falling into a chaos that even the Crimson Dawn cannot control,” Eleera said, stepping forward. “Ren is obsessed with the past, just as you were. He seeks the same ancient power we used to bring you back. He is a scavenger of the dark side, tearing down everything we have built to find his own strength.”

Maul stared at the hologram, sensing the turbulent, chaotic energy through the Force—a mirror of his own hatred. “He will find only death,” Maul whispered, the voice of a man who had die

Maul hears of the galaxy changing, but he does not see strength in the new order. Through Eleera, he has learned of Kylo Ren—a “pretender” of Skywalker descent, a child throwing tantrums and tearing apart the galaxy, diverting focus from the true, disciplined path of the dark side. Maul views Ren as weak, a petulant heir unworthy of the power he wields.

Driven by madness and a desire to purge this inadequacy, Maul has tracked the pretender to a forgotten, shadow-drenched Sith waystation in the Unknown Regions. There will be no negotiation. Maul intends to kill Kylo Ren, crush the Skywalker legacy once and for all, and seize control of the First Order’s resources to forge a “true” empire from the ashes!

The air on the hidden waystation of Sicarus tasted like ozone and ash. Kylo Ren stood in the center of the derelict chamber, his crossguard saber igniting with a violent crackle. The air around him shimmered.

"You are not the first pretender to think the dark side belongs to you, boy," a raspy, echoing voice hissed from the shadows.

A figure emerged. He was wrong—a patchwork of scarred flesh and archaic, scraping cybernetics, barely holding together. But the eyes were a familiar, burning yellow, fueled by decades of stolen time and unmatched hatred.

"Maul," Kylo said, his voice deep, yet with a hint of confusion. "You died on Tatooine."

"I am never dead, Skywalker," Maul sneered, spinning his double-bladed lightsaber, the red energy clashing against the dim room. "I am the pain you ignore. I am the failure you represent."

Kylo Ren’s grip tightened on his crossguard hilt, the unstable red plasma crackling and humming in response to his sudden spike in anger. He took a slow, deliberate step toward the zabrak, unthreatened by the "shadow" of the past.

"You are a ghost, Maul," Kylo rasped, his voice modulator deepening his menace. "A relic clinging to a throne that turned to dust decades ago. You speak of failure, yet you died in a desert, alone and forgotten by your master. I have surpassed Vader. I have finished what he started!”

Maul laughed, a harsh, grating sound that echoed in the chamber. He didn't move, holding his lightsaber idle at his side, observing Kylo with cold, yellow eyes.

"Surpassed him?" Maul taunted, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. "You are just a frightened child wearing a mask to hide from the light. You scream into the dark, expecting it to answer, but it only echoes your own weakness. I was forged by pain; you are merely breaking under its weight."

Maul began to circle slowly, the motion natural, predatory, his eyes never leaving Kylo's mask.

"I have heard the stories of the new Order," Maul continued, his tone dripping with disdain. "A First Order built by a boy-king who cannot even control his own emotions. Your 'master' Snoke was just another puppet I would have broken, and you? You are a Skywalker by blood, but a child by heart."

Kylo Ren's crimson blade stabilized as he matched Maul's movement, his posture shifting into a defensive, yet aggressive stance. The air crackled with tension, the dark side pressing in around them, feeding off the mutual hatred.

"You know nothing of my power," Kylo threatened, bringing his saber up. "I will not let you corrupt what I have built. I am the future of the dark side."

"No," Maul hissed, finally bringing his double-bladed lightsaber up, readying to ignite it. "You are merely a footnote. A mistake that needs to be corrected."

The lights on Kylo's hilt flared bright. Maul grinned.

A vicious, violent lightsaber duel between two Sith that were the first to reveal themselves to the Jedi after many years after the Sith were defeated ensues! But the question is: Who Will Win?! You decide!

Happy “May The 4th”, everyone!

Great match and love the storytelling here. You really know your star wars and it shows. I gotta give it to Maul, as he has much more experience and skill.

May the 4th be with you

I pick Kylo Ren I really loved his performance in the last 3 Star Wars movies. and my comic con buddy cosplays Kylo Ren whenever we do get to go to Comicon together I cosplay as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Kylo Ren is the grandson of Vader. It is inaccurate to claim he is the equivalent of Darth Caedus (Jacen Solo) but still he's kind of an alternate version of the same character.
