undertakersymbiote Posted May 2 Read Aloud Posted May 2 The cosmos was a kaleidoscope of fading purple and sharp, blinding white as Ristar—the young, valiant shooting star—streaked across the galaxy. He had just finished liberating the Valdi System, his elastic arms still tingling from the final impact against the formidable forces of Kaiser Greedy. Seeking a moment of respite, Ristar utilized a high-speed meteor trajectory to navigate toward a peaceful blue orb, planning to catch his breath on its surface. However, the trajectory went slightly awry. Atmospheric re-entry was a roar of fire, followed by a violent splash that sent water spraying hundreds of feet into the air. Ristar plummeted, not into dirt, but into a deep, vibrant blue ocean—a stark contrast to the mechanical, desolate environments he was accustomed to. Pufftop Kingdom’s Ocean was calm, filled with smiling fish and soft, melodic music—until now. Ristar shook himself off, black sneakers sinking into the white sand of the ocean floor, his large, star-shaped head swiveling in curiosity. He hadn't meant to cause a commotion. He simply wanted to sit on a coral reef and perhaps build a small snowman out of sand. "Whoa," Ristar murmured, his voice youthful and gentle, as he admired the colorful, breathing ecosystem. But in the distant, shimmering surface of the sky, a small, star-shaped shadow saw things differently. Starfy, the prince of the Pufftop Kingdom, was having a perfectly lazy day. He had already taken two naps, eaten his breakfast, and was currently contemplating a third nap before his afternoon "patrol" (chasing Moe the clam away from his treasure stash). When the massive splash occurred, Starfy didn't see a visitor; he saw a potential threat to his peaceful ocean, a repeat of the monsters that often kidnapped his mother. Adopting his most heroic—and admittedly, slightly terrified—expression, Starfy dove from the clouds above. His small, star-shaped body glowed with a faint, determined light. He had heard tales of alien beings capable of breaking planets, and he wasn't going to let his home be next. Starfy accelerated, his eyes narrowed, his mind flashing back to his training with Old Man Lobber. Down below, Ristar turned, sensing a rapid fluctuation in the water pressure. Through the hazy, sunlit water, he saw the yellow, star-shaped form descending quickly. Ristar didn't look threatening, but the intensity emanating from the newcomer was undeniable. Starfy: (High-pitched, aggressive squeals) "Teee-tah! [Wait! Who are you?] You're not one of the Snips, are you? Or a runaway minion? You look… stretchy. Like a rubber band!" Ristar: (Stretches his arms curiously, trying to look friendly) "Hi, everybody! Play with me? Wait—not like that. I’m Ristar. I think I made a wrong turn trying to find the special stage spinner. Where am I?" Starfy: (Puffs himself up, hovering between Ristar and the exit) "You’re in Pufftop Kingdom! And you just broke my roof! I don’t know what a 'special stage' is, but you look like you’re trying to steal my shiny treasure! Moe told me to be on the lookout for weirdos!" Ristar: (Looks concerned, hands raised in a calming gesture) "I don’t want your treasure. I was helping the forest denizens of Planet Flora, and I got pulled through a vortex. It looked like a Star Handle, but it brought me here instead. Please, I just need to find my way back." Starfy: (Crosses his little arms, not buying it) "That’s what they all say! The fish said that! The giant clams said that! Then they tried to turn my pearls into pudding! You have weird, long arms, and you came from the sky. You’re definitely a threat!" Ristar: (Sighs, getting a bit exasperated) "Look, kid. I don’t know why everything here is so hostile. I'm a hero from the Valdi System. I fight evil! If I was a threat, I’d have smashed this place, not crashed into it by accident. I'm just… lost." Starfy: (Narrowing his eyes, remembering his training) "A hero? You look like a sun with sneakers. Real heroes don't have limbs that bend like crazy! If you're really a hero, prove it! [Mighty Star Spin!]" (Starfy launches into a rapid spin, diving toward Ristar.) Ristar instinctively reached up, his elastic arms prepping for a grab—not to hurt, but to defend—just as Starfy initiated his Mighty Star Spin. Starfy, moving faster than he ever had, spun like a whirlwind, turning his body into a focused projectile of blue energy and raw, defensive instinct, aiming directly at the strange star-being standing in his kingdom. A battle breaks out between two anthropomorphic stars from platforming video games! But which star outshines the other? You decide! Quote
