JohnnyChany Posted Wednesday at 05:58 AM Read Aloud Posted Wednesday at 05:58 AM THE STREETS ARE FOREVER INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT HONORING THE BEST TO BEAT 'EM UP Challenge #11 VS. The warm glow of lantern light and the hum of excited chatter filled the Pao Pao Cafe as the camera settled once again on the hosts’ table. Terry Bogard leaned back in his chair “Man… I gotta say, what a way to kick things off for that last challenge!” He tapped the table with excitement. “Blaze and Lucia heading straight into Mr. Big’s territory? That’s what I’m talking about! Not only are we getting incredible fights, but these teams are also actually cleaning up Southtown while they’re at it. This is great for our city.” Blue Mary nodded. “Exactly. Blaze Fielding and Lucia Morgan taking down Mr. Big? That’s a win-win for everyone.” She sent a knowing look at Terry. “When this is all over… we should celebrate. Drinks on me.” Terry laughed. “Now that’s the best idea I’ve heard all night!” “I’m still amazed we pulled this off,” Mai marveled. ”All these teams, all these fighters, this really is the best of the best.” “Yeah, about that.” A new voice cut in. The camera shifted as four figures stepped into frame. The group stood confidently, each one radiated street-level toughness. Hawk Manson stepped forward first, He was tall, muscular, with a military-style haircut. He wore a denim vest, jeans, and black gloves. He crossed his arms with quiet authority. Beside him, Mace Daniels cracked her knuckles. She was lean and athletic, with short dark hair and a no-nonsense expression. She wore a cropped jacket, fingerless gloves, and tight leather pants, her stance was aggressive and ready. Alana McKendricks stood next to her, her long blonde hair pulled into a ponytail and wearing a form-fitting outfit that blended practicality with style. Finally, Ben “Smasher” Jackson loomed behind them, massive and imposing. His broad frame was wrapped in a white tank top stretched over thick muscle and he wore spikes on his gloves. Mace pointed directly at Mai. “You say you brought the best… but you missed us.” Hawk nodded. “Those Lee Brothers got nothing on us. Our work on the streets? Just as good as anything out of Metro City or Wood Oak.” “So how do those two cities both get two teams, and we don’t even get invited?” Alana asked pointedly. “Simple. They were scared of us, all of ‘em.” assumed Smasher. Terry raised both hands. "Hey now, hold on.” Before things could escalate, King stepped into frame behind them. “My apologies,” she said calmly. “They insisted on coming to talk to you all and I didn’t want to cause a scene.” Mai scoffed and crossed her legs. “First of all, this is a five-person team tournament.” She gestured at them. “You’ve only got four.” "Oh, that’s convenient,” Smasher shot back. “You think we designed the size of the teams just to exclude you?” Mai questioned in disbelief. “Someone sure thinks a lot of themselves.” Mace stepped forward. “I can show you exactly why we should’ve been included if you doubt us.” Tension spiked instantly. Terry quickly moved between them. “Alright, alright, let’s not turn the studio into a fight zone! I know about you guys and how tough you all are,” stated Terry. “I honestly thought I had heard Hawk had struck out on his own.” Hawk shook his head. “Nah, we are definitely a unit.” “Be that as may the tournament is already in its later stages now so that ship has sailed,” Terry explained. “But maybe we can work something else out.” Across the room, Blue Mary noticed another unexpected visitor walking their way. “Hold on a minute.” She stepped away and approached the newcomer. It was Estel of Team Hunter dressed in her police gear and looking focused and intense. “Estel? What are you doing here?” Mary asked, "Shouldn't you be in Wood Oak with the rest of Team Hunter?” Estel stood firm. “I’m being proactive.” “How is that?” “All the other teams have already paired off; my team faces Team Poison this round.” Estel declared. Mary nodded. “That’s correct.” “I’ve already worked it out,” Estel continued. “Given the remaining possible matchups between this round and our last round against Team Blaze… I will be facing Poison.” Mary smirked slightly. “Not bad deduction on your part, officer.” “I don’t want to wait,” Estel stated. Mary tilted her head. “You want to go now?” “Yes,” Estel answered. “My team hasn’t scored a point yet. That ends with me. I don’t want any of my teammates dwelling on our setbacks so far.” “And that is the only reason?” Mary wondered. “I may have made some mistakes in the past like the whole being manipulated by the Y Twins to go after Axel and Blaze debacle.,” Estel admitted. “But I’m a damn fine cop and I’m ready to show that to the world again and reestablish my reputation.” Blue Mary smiled. “Taking down Poison, someone with a rea; criminal record despite the way she may try to spin it, could go a long way to fixing that perception. I want to get to it,” stated Estel. “That aspect was certainly considered when we were pairing up the matches,” Mary revealed. “Then let me go after her now, I know where she is at.” Mary glanced back at Terry who was still trying to keep Mai and Mace from throwing hands. “Let her go!” Terry shouted. “That’s a great tournament moment waiting to happen and this place is in too much chaos right now for a proper intro.!” Mary smirked at Estel. “You heard him.” Estel gave a short nod. “Thank you.” And without another word, she turned and left. At the Southtown Slamotorium, the roar of the crowd shook the arena. Inside the ring, Max Thunder and Hugo clashed like unleashed kaiju. Nearby, Raiden slammed his fist on the commentary table. The longtime wrestling and fighting tournament veteran had agreed to do commentary with the bird mask wearing wrestling hero, Tizoc, for this epic exhibition. “WHAT POWER! WHAT IMPACT!” Raiden exclaimed. Tizoc agreed enthusiastically. “These are warriors worthy of legend!” Hugo lifted Max and planted him back down with a spinning powerslam. The ring shook as Hugo leapt into the air and landed with his full body weight on Max. “THIS COULD BE IT!” Raiden roared. The ref dropped to the mat. “ONE! TWO…” There was a last second kick out, the crowd erupted. Poison jumped onto the apron. “Are you kidding me?! That was THREE!” She pointed aggressively and dramatically at the ref. “No more slow counts. Count faster next time!” She hopped down, only to be met by Max’s Team Blaze teammate, Floyd. “What are you doing?” Poison smiled, “Putting on a show, obviously. Giving the paying public what they want to see.” Floyd was confused. Poison waved a hand dismissively. “Relax. I’m not actually worried about the outcome. Hugo’s got this.” “We’ll see about that,” Floyd countered. Max and Hugo staggered up. They locked eyes and charged one another. After a simultaneous strike, both men collapsed. The crowd gasped. The ref began counting. “ONE… TWO… THREE…” Raiden leaned forward in his chair at the commentary desk. “CAN THEY GET UP?!” “FOUR… FIVE… SIX…” Tizoc clenched his fists. “This is going to be close!” “SEVEN… EIGHT… NINE…” Poison leaned on the ropes. “Get up Hugo!” she demanded. “TEN!” The bell rang. “DOUBLE KNOCKOUT! DRAW!” Raiden exclaimed. “I don’t believe it.” The crowd booed. Poison stormed into the ring. “That was a fast count this time and you know it!” Suddenly, Estel appeared in the arena and made her way down the aisle. “You here for me?” Floyd wondered. “Are you my challenger from Team Hunter.” Estel didn’t even look at him. “No.” She pointed straight ahead. “I’m here for her.” A microphone was shoved into her hand. She raised it. “Poison!” she called out. “The wrestling world may have forgiven your crimes, but I haven’t.” Poison froze. “…Excuse me?” Estel stepped closer to the ring “I’m challenging you to our battle, now.” Poison scoffed loudly. “Sweetheart, my team, we do the challenging around here,” she insisted. “You don’t get to try and run from this,” said Estel. “Oh, I’m not running.” Poison assured. She looked down and pointed at the unconscious bodies of Hugo and Max. “But first, I need to settle this!” Raiden called out from the announce desk. “No need to worry. We will restart the match. with the stipulation that there must be a winner and a decisive finish.” “And while we prepare this continued confrontation and revive our fallen gladiators, perhaps your fight with the lady cop can continue to entertain the masses,” Tizoc suggested. Poison shrugged. “Fine.” A mic was handed to Poison. “You think you’re gonna restore your aura by beating me?” She laughed. “You are sadly mistaken, officer. You will just be another steppingstone to my ascension.” “Then stop talking.” Estel dropped the mic. “Let’s go.” Poison grinned. “Gladly.” Poison exited the ring and the two collided instantly. Punches and kicks flew. The fight carried on from ringside up the entrance way to the backstage area. A cameraman rushed after them. “Stay with them!” a crew member shouted. “We want to make sure every angle of this fight is broadcast.”
