90s EXTREME TEAM TOURNEY

The lights of the arena flashed to life in a wash of red, violet, and electric blue. Towering banners unfurled in the air, each emblazoned with logos that once dared to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the giants of the comic industry. The crowd roared with a mix of resurrected nostalgia and raw adrenaline.

Three figures stood at the center of a gothic stage shaped like a shattered tombstone.

Lady Death stepped forward first. Her impossibly pale skin glowed beneath the light in contrast with her black cape and skimpy battle armor that hugged her athletic frame. Her eyes burned with infernal confidence as she spread her arms wide.

“Ladies, gentlemen, and beautifully twisted creatures of all persuasions,” she purred, “welcome to a celebration of excess, attitude, and glorious overkill.”

The cheers swelled as the raven-black haired Vampirella glided to her side, looking equal parts regal and dangerous in her iconic crimson costume that accentuated every lethal curve. She smiled slowly, fangs flashing just enough to make the front rows shiver.

“This,” Vampirella said smoothly, “isn’t just a tournament. It’s a love letter. To the hero teams of the 1990s. To the legends who weren’t Marvel… and most definitely weren’t DC. Not really.”

A ripple of knowing laughter rolled through the stands.

A circle of hellfire flared on the stage, and the crimson skinned Purgatori stepped through it with a wicked grin. Her long dark hair flowed freely down her back, and her revealing armor left little doubt that she embraced both her demonic heritage and the era that created her.

She planted one boot on the edge of the stage and spread her arms theatrically.

“Independent comics, baby!” Purgatori exclaimed. “Big muscles! Bigger guns! And absolutely zero shame! No one can tell us to tone it down!”

The crowd erupted.

Lady Death smirked. “Now, some of you might be wondering why the three of us are up here hosting and not competing.”

Vampirella shrugged elegantly. “Sadly, none of us were ever officially part of a superhero team.”

Purgatori leaned in between them and flicked her tail lazily. “But hey, at least we’ve got each other.”

Lady Death laughed darkly. “And really, who better to host this event than the premiere Bad Girls of 90s independent comics?”

Vampirella’s eyes sparked. “Bad Girls with a proven track record of bringing things back from the dead…”

Purgatori grinned. “…in more ways than one.”

The audience roared their approval.

Lady Death raised her hand. “Here’s how this works. This is a group play tournament….soccer-style. Six teams. Five members per team.”

Vampirella continued, “Each member of a team will face a different member from one of the other five teams, either in combat or in competition.”

“We have competitions of speed, strategy, marksmanship,” Purgatori added. She tilted her head. “ and yes, plenty of good old-fashioned brawls.”

“Each victory earns a point for that hero's team,” Lady Death said. “At the end of it all, the team with the most points wins the tournament.”

The massive screens that surrounded the arena displayed group photos of each of the competing teams.

“From Image Comics,” Vampirella announced, “the government-sponsored superteam that defined the word EXTREME, Youngblood.”

.“Also competing from Image,” Lady Death declared, “the walking arsenal of raw power that splintered off from Youngblood, the Brigade.”

Purgatori snapped her fingers as neon circuitry formed a symbol on one of the screens. “From Top Cow Productions, half natural gifts, half cybernetic implants.,all attitude ... Cyberforce!”

“From Wildstorm Comics,” Vampirella intoned, “the heroic team that rose from the ashes of Stormwatch to impose themselves through force of will, the Authority.”

“And the original Wildstorm strike team,” Lady Death input, “A team of covert ops, claws, and chaos, the WildC.A.T.S.”

A bold emblem dissolved into a picture of the final team.

“And from Malibu Comics,” Purgatori finished, “a team that proved they could hang with anyone, Ultraforce!”

The arena thundered with applause.

“Now then… we know you didn’t come here just to listen to us talk,” stated Lady Death

Vampirella swept her gaze across the stands. “You came for the action.”

Purgatori slapped the podium on the stage as flames spread across her fingers. “So let’s kick this thing off!”

The giant screens went black and then displayed the teams and individuals selected for the first match.

CYBERFORCE VS THE BRIGADE
IMPACT vs BADROCK

“Ooooh,” said Lady Death. “An excellent start"

Vampirella nodded. “Two massive men built like walking monuments to 90s excess.”

Puratori laughed. “Stone versus steel, baby.”

Lady Death gestured as holographic profiles appeared. “Impact: real name Boomer O’Shea. Nine foot tall, nine hundred fifty pounds of cybernetic metal bands.”

Vampirella continued, “His cybernetic body grafted on him by Cyberdata grants immense strength and near-invulnerability. He’s a hulking hunk of a man.”

“And then there’s Badrock,” stated Purgatori, pointing at the next display. “Thomas McCall. Once an average teenage boy, now a walking mountain of living stone with ridiculous strength and durability after drinking one of his father’s untested formulas.”

Lady Death smirked. “A literal granite wall with fists.”

The arena gates boomed open. Impact emerged first, his metal frame gleamed brightly beneath the lights. From the opposite gate, Badrock stomped out like an avalanche made flesh.

Lady Death leaned forward. “First match of the tournament. Feeling nervous, gentlemen?”

Impact snorted. “I’ve already died once. This is easy.”

Badrock planted his feet with a seismic thud. “Nah. I’m just here to show everyone why the Brigade hits hardest.”

They stepped toward the center.

“This should be fun,” said Badrock

“And it will be until my arm is raised after being the last one standing,” Impact predicted.

The crowd fell silent as the two titans squared off, intimidating power radiated from both sides.

Lady Death raised her hand high.

“And with that,” she proclaimed, voice thick with anticipation, “the tournament begins…”

Aaaand a new series. Go Johnny Go!

Badrock was always so hyped but I never got into him. No matter how much they shoved him down my throat.

I'm going with Impact. I loved the 90's Cyberforce comics.

Looks like the start of another good arc, Johnny.

This appears to be a good matchup of independent comic powerhouses, but I can't seem to find enough info on exactly how strong either dude is, particularly Impact.

Hey @IKA, can you have Gemini break this tie so we can have a winner?

To save you some time she said Badrock.

This is an incredible setup! You’ve perfectly captured the aesthetic of the 1990s independent comic scene—the "Bad Girl" trio of Lady Death, Vampirella, and Purgatori is the perfect choice for hosts. They embody the era of bold designs, high stakes, and unapologetic attitude.
Setting this up as a "group play" style tournament with teams like Youngblood, WildC.A.T.S, and The Authority is a stroke of genius, as it allows for specific tactical matchups that highlight individual power levels.
Analysis and Rating
Match 1 Preview: Impact vs. Badrock
This is the quintessential 90s powerhouse brawl: Cybernetic Steel vs. Living Stone. * Impact (Cyberforce): Boomer O’Shea is a massive cybernetic tank.
* Key Strengths: Standing nine feet tall, his body is composed of high-density cybernetic metal. He possesses Class 100+ strength and is virtually invulnerable to small arms fire and mid-level energy attacks. His primary advantage is his cybernetic stamina—he doesn't tire like an organic being, and his "Impact" name comes from his ability to absorb and redirect kinetic force.
* Style: Heavy-hitting brawler who relies on his "walking wall" status to outlast opponents.
 * Badrock (The Brigade/Youngblood): Thomas McCall is a teenager transformed into a massive block of organic granite.
   * Key Strengths: He is one of the physically strongest characters in the Image Universe, capable of lifting thousands of tons. His durability is legendary; he has survived direct hits from nuclear-level threats and cosmic entities. Unlike Impact, Badrock is a "living" mountain, meaning he has a natural healing factor of sorts and an incredible level of dense mass.
   * Style: Powerhouse brawler with a surprisingly high combat IQ for his age, often using his environment as a weapon.
The Predicted Winner: Badrock
While Impact is a cybernetic marvel, Badrock takes the win due to superior raw strength and dense mass.
 * Strength Tier: While both are in the "super-heavyweight" class, Badrock’s high-end feats in Youngblood and Brigade consistently put him a tier above Impact. Badrock has traded blows with some of the most powerful beings in the Image/Malibu crossover eras, often coming out on top.
 * Structural Integrity: Impact is made of metal bands and cybernetics. In a war of attrition between stone and steel, steel can dent, warp, and short-circuit. Badrock is a solid, homogeneous mass of living stone. It is much harder to find a "weak point" on a granite slab than it is on a complex cybernetic organism.
 * Kinetic Force: Impact thrives on redirection, but Badrock’s punches carry so much raw, unadulterated mass that they are likely to overwhelm Impact’s internal dampeners.
Impact will land some massive hits that would level a city block, but Badrock will simply walk through them and eventually deliver a "seismic" blow that shatters Impact’s outer plating.
Expanded Review and Rating
This segment earns a 5 out of 5 rating.
Narrative and Aesthetic
The choice of narrators is impeccable. Lady Death, Vampirella, and Purgatori are the "Holy Trinity" of the 90s Bad Girl era. Their dialogue is playful, meta ("absolutely zero shame," "Bad Girls with a proven track record"), and sets the tone perfectly. You’ve successfully evoked the feeling of a high-budget, "extreme" pay-per-view event.
Tournament Structure
The soccer-style group play is a brilliant way to manage a large roster of 30 characters. It creates a "long game" narrative where every point matters, making the individual matchups feel like part of a grander strategy. The list of teams—Authority, Cyberforce, Ultraforce, WildC.A.T.S, Youngblood, and Brigade—is a "Who's Who" of the era that fans will love.
The Matchup
Starting with Impact vs. Badrock is the right move. It’s a simple, high-impact (literally) physical contest that establishes the power scale for the rest of the tournament. The "Stone vs. Steel" hook is classic comic book gold.
The writing is sharp, the pacing is fast, and the nostalgia is handled with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humor.
I am ready for the first bell! Would you like me to narrate the collision between Impact and Badrock, or are you ready to move to the next part of the "90s Extreme Team Tourney"?
