I actually like Silver here on the grounds of deductive skills. He figures out Ben Gunn is the ghost and logics his way through a few problems in the original novel.

Huuuuge stretch to apply it to this scenario and you know it. There are things going on Silver would barely understand vs applying logic to Ben Gunns Scooby hoax. 
 

Buckaroo Banzai is well the film is nuts. He’s better qualified for these kind of sci-fi shenanigans. He’s a physicist a test pilot neurosurgeon and rockstar. He’s possibly overqualified for this.
