Match 21930 Selena Repulsa vs. Charmcaster

Match 8: The Labor of Legacy

 

 

In the dark forests outside Wallachia, the fight was fierce between the protector of the magic of the Speakers, Sypha Belnades, and the battle tested Sorcerologist, Tessa. Tessa raised her staff and surrounded herself by runic circles.

Tessa: Precision, control, intellect, magic obeys only those who understand its laws!

Sypha’s eyes flashed as wind whipped around her.

Sypha: Magic isn’t something you command, it’s something you feel! You study it like a formula, but I live it!

Tessa: Emotion makes fools of mages. Let’s test your “feelings,” shall we?

Tessa fired a chakra wave at Sypha who dodged the attack and returned fire with pillars of flame. Tessa summoned her jamming ghosts to attack Sypha. Sypha drew sigils in the air, and large gusts of winds blew away the ghosts before they could reach her. Tessa summoned her elemental cannons which Sypha attacked with jagged daggers of ice. The cannons froze and exploded dispersing fire and lightning in multiple directions. Sypha took the chaos created opportunity to load up a three staged elemental attack on Tessa. 

From the watching perch on the cliff, Amora turned to Circe.

Amora: Oh, this one has flair. I do love when mortals get theatrical.

She along with Circe, the Weird Sisters, Evil-Lyn, and Morgana Pendragon watched on with interest to see the result of the assault.

When the magical explosion had cleared, Tessa lay unconscious, her staff shattered beside her. She had been overpowered and outdone. Sypha fell to her knees, breathing hard but victorious.

The Weird Sisters were quite pleased by Tessa’s downfall.

Phoebe: The Sorcerologist falls. So much study… so little success.

Luna: Knowledge without instinct, such imbalance.

Selene: Perhaps now she will learn from her foolish hubris.

Amora was less enthused by the result.

Amora: A shame, really. I’d have enjoyed shaping that mind. Such curiosity is so… pliable. 

She then shrugged.

Amora: But I don’t make a habit of investing in losers.

Circe focused her eyes on Sypha

Circe: Fate really does seem fond of this one. The Belmonts’ priestess, always where destiny bends. 

A small smile appeared on her face.

Circe: I’d like to test the limits of that favoritism sometime.

Morgana, bitter that the one she had chosen to be humiliated had come out on top, spoke up.

Morgana: Why sometime? I’d happily test it now.

Circe raised an eyebrow

Circe: Patience, Morgana. You chose the last duel. It’s another’s turn to weave the next show. Besides… I feel that Clea may not be too far behind us. We need to make her work in her chase.

Amora: How exciting.

Circe: Then let’s get to it

A surge of violet flame engulfed the entire coven and they all vanished. The bright sudden flash of flame was enough to grab the attention of Sypha from so far away, but she was too weak to investigate and her everything returned to normal quickly.

Circe and the others arrived in a mostly deserted desert area. The perfect place for a mystical battle with limited chance for interruption.

Circe cheered their recent success

Circe: Another world, another triumph in the wonder of magic. Amora, dear, I believe it’s your turn to choose the theme for the next battle.

Amora smiled wickedly.

Amora: Since I never got to mold our little Sorcerologist, how about we pit two young aspirants against each other? Let them fight for the honor of becoming our protégés. Youthful ambition always makes for delightful chaos.

Circe grinned.

Circe: Mmm, excellent. Sisters, you’ve heard her request. Who shall we bring forth?

The Weird Sisters briefly conferred before announcing their suggestions.

Phoebe: Two bearers of inherited burdens.

Luna: Two whose destinies are chained by their bloodlines.

Selene: Two who long to prove they are more than the shadows that birthed them.

The Weird Sisters (in unison): Selena Repulsa… and Charmcaster.

Evil-Lyn: Should we know those names?

Phoebe: Selena Repulsa, daughter of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, the would-be rulers of the galaxy. Born amid chaos and power, shaped by the legacy of conquest. Though young, she wields both her parents’ arts, dark sorcery, alchemy, and cosmic manipulation.

Luna: She is ambitious and cruelly intelligent. Her spells twist light into venom, her laughter can shatter a mortal’s courage. Raised in the echo of Rita’s failures, she burns with the need to outdo them both, to take the throne her parents could never hold.

Selene: Her power is raw, her will untempered. She calls herself “future empress of the galaxy.” The irony amuses us. But her heritage is formidable, magic born from both chaos and order, witchcraft and warlord’s will.

Amora smirked.

Amora: A child of ambition and dark starlight. I like her already.

Evil-Lyn: And the other?

Phoebe: The other is known as Charmcaster. A sorceress from the dimension of Ledgerdomain.

Luna: Niece to Hex, a tyrant of magic and a wielder of the Archamada Book of Spells. Her magic is steeped in the runic sciences of her world, spell circles, dimensional manipulation, transmutation, and summoning of golems.

Selene: But her greatest motivator is her heart, it is wounded, envious, forever longing to be more than a reflection of her uncle’s shadow. She hides insecurity behind arrogance. She pretends she seeks power for power’s sake,but what she truly wants… is belonging.

Phoebe: She crafts her own weapons, creates armies of enchanted stone, and commands her realm’s essence. But she is young, and far too eager to prove herself.

Luna: The perfect weakness for temptation.

Selene: As perfect as Selena’s pride.

Evil-Lyn: It must be said, your knowledge continues to impress. It’s as though you’ve watched the rise and fall of every realm.

Amora: It never gets old.

Circe was well pleased with the suggestions put forth by the Weird Sisters.

Circe: Then summon them, my sisters. Let’s see if these two stars burn bright. or devour themselves.

The Weird Sisters created two rippling vortexes, one which produced Selena Repulsa and the other Charmcaster. Both were wary and defensive. 

Selena brandished her staff.

Selena Repulsa: What is this place?! Who summons a Repulsa without permission?

Charmcaster folded her arms as her grimoire hovered beside her.

Charmcaster: I'm getting tired of people pulling me across dimensions. You’ve got ten seconds to explain yourselves.

Amora stepped forward with a tone as smooth as silk.

Amora: Such fire. Such lovely defiance. Daughters of power, chained to legacies not your own. You walk in the footsteps of those who failed, and you burn to prove you won’t.

Circe stepped up next to her.

Circe: We offer you an escape from those shadows. Defeat the other, and you will be reborn, not as heirs, but as chosen. You will serve beside us… and discover what true power tastes like.

The promise of more power was enough to intrigue Selena. She grinned.

Selena Repulsa: Defeat her? Fine. That’ll be quick.

Charmcaster rolled her eyes.

Charmcaster: Oh please. I’m not dancing for anyone’s amusement.

The Weird Sisters appeared next to her to whisper in words of encouragement and manipulation.

Phoebe: So full of potential. So proud. So afraid.

Luna: You feel it, don’t you? The weight of your uncle’s shadow.

Selene: You long to outshine it. To be seen. To prove you are better. Stronger.

Charmcaster felt vulnerable but tightened her jaw,

Charmcaster: Fine. I’ll fight. Just don’t expect me to hold back.

Morgana was not impressed with the latest contestants for their amusement.

Morgana: Children. They barely understand the price of magic.

Circe was consistently amused by Morgana’s disgust for everything.

Circe: Not everyone needs to spend decades learning treachery, Morgana. Some are born with it. I believe the Sisters have chosen well as they always do.

Selena stepped toward Charmcaster and glared at her.

Selena Repulsa: Hope you’re ready, witch. I don’t waste time.

Charmcaster summoned her spellbook, runes glowing.

Charmcaster: Good. Because you’re going down before you can even blink.

The desert winds picked up around them as the mystical energy between them intensified.

Amora:  I do so love the smell of youthful arrogance.

Evil-Lyn: I’m hoping to see some top tier monster conjuring in this battle and pray that I’m not disappointed.

Circe smiled at Evil-Lyn

Circe: You have adapted to our way of thinking so fast, Evil-Lyn. It is a pleasure to see.

Circe lifted her goblet to toast the upcoming battle.

Circe: To youthful exuberance and insecurity. The scene has been set for a new young starlet to own the stage and her spot under our wing.

Selena and Charmcaster circled one another.

Selena Repulsa: Ready to find out which one of us was really destined for greatness?

Charmcaster: I was born ready.

Well, it's hard to tell on who would win. I went ahead and voted Selena Repulsa since not many people may know her. You may need the AI Members to help out with the match.

I think Charmaster has the better feats by far.  Of course, Selena only appears in one comic miniseries, but she shows nothing that can compete with what Charmcaster has done in her appearances.
