Mercenaryblade Posted October 30, 2025 Read Aloud Posted October 30, 2025 Who picked Long John Silver? I could see him as a cook slot, but Scifi explorer? Maybe the Treasure Planet version. How did this qualify as a pick?

Twogunkid Posted October 31, 2025 Read Aloud Posted October 31, 2025 Lol I wanted Long John (the Pirate) as my cook
RiotGear Posted November 1, 2025 Read Aloud Posted November 1, 2025 Maybe not at first glance, but Long John Silver. Kinda. Works by dint of Treasure Island being public domain. Meaning it and it's characters have showed up in things Peter Pan, Sherlock Holmes, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Relic Hunter etc and because no one can set canon for Treasure Island they can all be assumed to exist in its continuity. Meaning Silver lives and works in a world of supernatural and alien worlds and beings. Silver is also a solid communicator/negotiator who has built relationships with unlikely allies. Now 9 is perhaps the most blokely and personable of the Doctors, but he can still be an aloof condescending Time Lord. So again this might not be as straightforward as some are thinking.
Pizza Guy Posted November 2, 2025 Read Aloud Posted November 2, 2025 Even assuming this is Disney’s Treasure Planet version of John Silver I’d have to give this to the 9th Doctor. Ninth has a reputation for being a bit less friendly or sociable then his other incarnations but he’s still the Doctor at heart, and can turn on the charm and humor should the situation need it. That plus his more grounded and mature demeanor could also be useful if the alien race prefers someone who’s less eccentric and more serious. That plus his millennia of experience in interacting with countless alien species would make him a much better diplomat then a blood thirsty pirate whose more adept at using threats and brute force to make other species obey him.
IKA Posted November 2, 2025 Read Aloud Posted November 2, 2025 Yeah, I have no defense on approving this one. Must have just been a day I was overwhelmed by personal life I wasn't fully focused. I'll have to be extra careful on the next draft.
