JohnnyChany Posted October 31, 2025 Read Aloud Posted October 31, 2025 Funny that the two Soul Calibur 3 shopkeepers end up against one another. This challenge is more Valeria's strength. In Hualin's soul is business, but her main skill and what got her work at the shop is smithing. Valeria's strength is appraisal, and her desire is to be the best appraiser in the world. A skill that would be invaluable in searching for rare and legendary items crucial for saving the world and having the knowledge on how to haggle with merchants and other buyers. Valeria knows the real value of items and how to obtain them.
RakaiThwei Posted October 31, 2025 Read Aloud Posted October 31, 2025 So basically a retail challenge... As someone who has worked in retail, specifically in the realm of cashiering, I can say that Hualin takes this-- BARELY. Now the challenge doesn't necessarily say WHAT is being sold but if there are weapons being sold, then this something which she can definitely edge out in. According to her backstory, she wants to be a weaponsmith and this gives her an edge in weapons craftmanship-- meaning she can HONESTLY look at a weapon, evaluate it's level of craftsmanship and tell, even recommend which weapons would be good for a customer's needs. The goal in sales is to SELL as MANY items as possible catered to a customer's needs. I've myself had to do this many times, as a customer had a project needed many items to get the results which the customer wants, and the end result is a bigger sale. Also, something which Hualin has which can make up for Valerias, ahem, assets-- and this is VERY true in the realm of retail, is that she has an upbeat and cheerful personality-- this is a BIG DRAW for customers and is definitely what keeps them coming back. It's also something which management definitely loves to hear from their customers. I would think that Hualin knows the sales tactics of her co-workers, including Valeria, and should be able to work around that to make honest, well informed, and well negotiated sales based around the customers needs.

One problem with this argument is you arguing how well she call sell to a customer, but this challenge is about buying, convincing merchants to sell to you and outdoing other buyers. I think Valeria's focus on appraisal is really going to help her here she could even use her knowledge to convince other buyers that the items she really wants aren't that valuable. And obviously her appearance will not only help her but even lead to the merchants and other buyers underestimating her knowledge.
