I quick read on both of these characters does not tell me that either one is any skilled alchemist.

That said, this is a bad scenario the character "The Source".  AKA , literally, "The Source of All Evil".

There's no way this cat brews any potion that does not have catastrophic side effects. It's literally his bit - catastrophic side effects.
