Boratz Posted September 7 Read Aloud Posted September 7 Chapter 72: House of Horrors, Part 2 The Ghostbusters had faced spirits, gods, and demons before, but nothing quite like this. The mansion, the LaLaurie Mansion, loomed in the heart of New Orleans. Its sprawling frame rotting beneath a moonless sky. Windows glared like eyes. After they split away from Abe Sapien, Van Helsing, and Friar Carl; they began their search for the ancient sorceress known as Akivasha. They knew they would have to navigate their way through this mansion that was rooted in a history of unspeakable evil in order to find their target. Inside, the air was heavy, almost liquid, pressing against their lungs. Every step down the grand hallway echoed too long, as though the house was mimicking them. Faded wallpaper shifted with shadows that seemed to peel away and crawl along the floor. **** As the team moved deeper, Egon’s PKE meter began to shriek wildly. He stepped into a side chamber lined with mirrors, only to see his reflection vanish. In its place, images of Gozer appeared; flashing between the human guise and the monstrous god. Each reflection spoke in perfect unison, “Choose again, Egon Spengler. Choose your destruction.” The scientist’s rational mind battled the surge of fear, but his pulse raced. For a split second, he thought he saw himself robed in white, standing at Gozer’s side as a servant. He gripped his proton thrower tighter, forcing himself to look away before the illusion could root itself in his mind. He was so overcome by fear that he could not form a rational thought. The scientist allowed his instincts to take over as he aimed the wand at the terrifying mirrors that surrounded him. Unleashing powerful waves of energy upon the mirrors, the glass shattered into thousands of pieces as Egon stood alone in that chamber. He slowly regained his composure for rational thoughts as he remembered that their objective was finding that ancient sorceress and putting an end to her. Despite his focus being brought back to finding the rest of his teammates and searching Akivasha, a seed of fear was planted deep in his heart. It was a fear that Gozer would eventually return. **** Peter hummed while wandering down another hall, where a music box played softly. He entered a room filled with flickering candlelight and found Dana Barrett seated in a chair, smiling warmly at him. His eyes widened as he felt a strange sensation in the pit of his stomach. He began to question reality as he looked over the image of the woman that he had fallen in love with. For a moment, he forgot about all that was happening around him. Relief washed over him, until her eyes rolled back white. Her body contorted, Zuul’s guttural snarl spilling from her throat. “There is no Dana… only Zuul.” Peter’s hands trembled. He tried to raise his wand, but his arms felt as if they were bound by invisible chains. He was powerless, forced to watch as Zuul twisted Dana’s image into something monstrous. For the first time, Venkman had no joke, no charm, no escape. He finally regained his compose and fired that stream of energy at the image of Zuul. The image soon vanished and Peter stood there in silence. He had no words to say. He felt alone. **** In another wing, Ray sauntered along until he stumbled upon an odd painting. The heart of the Ghostbusters let out a chuckle or two while looking over the painting. Ray’s laughter at a harmless painting froze on his lips. The walls began to bubble with white, sticky goo that seeped across the floor. He stumbled back, watching as the wallpaper tore open, revealing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, towering impossibly within the confines of the house. But this was no goofy, smiling giant. This version was twisted, burned, with blackened eyes and jagged, caramelized teeth dripping sugar and ash. “Ray…” it hissed, its thunderous steps shaking the foundation. “You thought of me… again…” Ray fell to his knees, smothered by guilt and the overwhelming sweetness turned rancid, choking him with its sickly smell. His hands trembled and shook while trying to gain control of his proton pack. He aimed it up at the large nightmare that towered over him. He fired that bright stream of energy until the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was gone. Letting out a sigh, he leaned against a wall. Ray said under his breath, "Gee, this was the absolute worst week to quit smoking." **** Meanwhile, Winston pushed open a door into utter darkness. The moment he stepped in, it slammed shut. Dozens of floating heads emerged, mouths stretched unnaturally wide, whispering his name in overlapping voices. The whispers grew to screams, each word stabbing into his ears: “Unworthy… weak… outsider…” Winston fired up his proton pack, but the beam cut through the apparitions like smoke. The voices grew louder, pounding in his skull until he dropped to one knee, clutching his ears. He had always been the everyman of the group, but here the house attacked that. It was as if the Mansion was reminding him that he was a simple mortal. He was replaceable, breakable, and weak. Despite this power that was pressing down against him, Winston found the strength to push past the hate and out of this chamber of death. He let out a chuckle as he remembered those words that he said to the mayor all those years ago. "I've definitely seen things that would turn a person white." **** This mansion, this house of horrors, seemed to thrive on their fears, feeding them back stronger with each passing second. When the four regrouped in the main hall, their faces pale and drenched in sweat, the house trembled. The chandeliers swung violently, walls split open, and a chorus of spectral laughter filled the air. They knew that the worst was far from over. They had a mission and it was more than simply facing off against the LaLaurie Mansion. They had a mission to find and put an end to Akivasha. Each one of the Ghostbusters were tired and exhausted, but they had to press forward. They had to fight past the horrors of this mansion in order to face off against the powerful sorceress that had wreaked havoc throughout history. The Ghostbusters had to press forward and make their way through the nightmares of this despicable place. Surrounded by the horrors of the mansion; they fired their proton packs in unison, the beams tearing through illusions and shadows, but the mansion itself wailed like a living entity. The floorboards cracked open, revealing a void of green fire. With every ounce of strength, they forced their way through the collapsing corridors, barely escaping through the splintering doors as the house let out continuous guttural screams. “Next time, can’t we just get called for a simple poltergeist in a broom closet?” muttered Peter who was still visibly distressed by what he had encountered. But none of them laughed. "I sure hope the others are okay..." Winston added while looking over the interior of this terrifying mansion. "This place is..." He moaned before going silent. "We have to keep moving. We have to put a stop to Akivasha before she can do anymore harm." Egon said with an emotionless voice. Before they could descend deeper, the house groaned, the walls bleeding with shadows. A sultry, commanding voice hissed through the halls, “Mortals dare disturb me? Then bleed for me.” She appeared in a wash of darkness, Akivasha, the ancient sorceress. Her beauty was intoxicating, almost hypnotic, her dark eyes glowing crimson. Draped in flowing silks that shimmered unnaturally, she looked exactly as she had in her last mortal life, yet far more terrifying. Ray’s jaw dropped. “That’s not just a Class 5 full-torso apparition! That’s a full-scale...” Ray exclaimed before going quiet. "Yeah, we got the picture, Ray." Winston moaned. Akivasha moved with supernatural grace, whispering temptation and death. Her laughter echoed off the bloodstained walls, and with each step, the tortured spirits of the LaLaurie Mansion surged forward; headless phantoms and shackled specters all gathering together and moaning in agony. Winston gritted his teeth, raising his proton pack. “Looks like she is not going to go down easy.” The battle was on. Proton streams lashed out, tearing through walls of shrieking souls. Egon quickly analyzed. “She’s feeding on the restless dead here. We’ll need a four-stream full entrapment. But beware, she’ll try to seduce and dominate your will.” Looking over the team; Akivasha turned her focus on Venkman, her beauty overwhelming. “You don’t need to fight me,” she whispered. “Serve me, and you’ll never die…” For a moment, Venkman hesitated; until Dana Barrett’s tormented image flickered across his mind, reminding him of Zuul. With a shudder, he snapped out of it. “Sorry, lady. I’m more of a dinner-and-a-movie guy.” The Ghostbusters regrouped in the grand ballroom, chandeliers crashing down as Akivasha manifested at full power. The tortured spirits shrieked and hurled themselves at the team, trying to drag them into walls that oozed black blood. "Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things up north!" Venkman shouted as the team confronted the ancient sorceress. Akivasha chuckled before glaring over the Ghostbusters. "You will not get the privilege. I will dance over your corpses as this world burns." ****************** This takes place about the same time as Abe Sapien's battle with Dr. Facilier. The Ghostbusters navigate their way through the haunted mansion and confront Akivasha.

leroypowell3 Posted September 9 Read Aloud Posted September 9 I agree with Mecenaryblade. Akivasha is kind of outside the Ghostbusters rouges gallery spectrum. She kind of fits but unless there's already a plan that went unmentioned, the guys aren't going to win this. 1
