The moon hung high above Manhattan. It cast a pale light over the skyscrapers and illuminated the stone figures perched atop them. The figures exploded from their stone shells as the sun completely disappeared. Broadway, a heavyset gargoyle with a good-natured smile, stretched his wings and cracked his neck.

“Another night, another patrol.”

Beside him stood the gargoyle, Angela who was graceful and fierce with lavender skin.

“Let’s try not to let anyone get away with robbing another bodega this time,” she teased.

Broadway chuckled. “Hey, I said I was hungry, not that I approved of the guy doing it.”

They leapt into the air and glided between buildings like shadowy guardians. As they neared Central Park, Angela slowed down.

“Let’s split up tonight,” she suggested. “You circle the east side. I’ll take the west.”

Broadway frowned. “You sure? You know Goliath doesn’t like it when we split up.”

“We can cover more ground this way.” Then Angela arched a brow. “You afraid I’ll run into trouble?”

Broadway quickly deflected with an innocent shrug. “Just don’t want to miss the action if you do.”

Angela smirked and flew off before he could say more.  Broadway knew how much Angela was starting to resent the overprotective nature of her father, Goliath, the leader of the clan. She wanted to be treated the same as all the others, and Broadway respected that. Even if meant disobeying Goliath's wishes.

“We’ll rendezvous at the reservoir in an hour!” Angela called out.

Elsewhere, far beneath the city, a sickly green light pulsated from a cavern exposed by a collapsing subway tunnel. The rippling portal opened with a shriek of unearthly energy.

Nitara, the vampiress from the realm of Vaeternus, stepped through. Her clawed feet touched this realm’s soil for the first time in centuries.

Her crimson eyes scanned the area around her.

“Earthrealm,” she hissed. “The sorcerer’s summoning worked. So much life here... and blood.”

She licked her lips and vanished into the shadows as she sought out her first victim.

Angela soared over the trees of Central Park in search of any signs of disturbance. The peacefulness of the night began to feel a little unnerving to her, almost too quiet.

She landed atop the Bethesda Terrace and crouched low. A breeze ruffled through her hair, and her tail twitched in response to something she hadn’t heard but felt. It was an unnatural chill in the air.

A scream pierced the silence. Angela’s wings snapped open, and she launched toward the sound.

Meanwhile, deep in an alley behind the Museum of Natural History, Nitara held a man by the throat, her long claws dug into his jacket.

“I need only a taste,” she murmured as she bared her fangs. “Struggle, and I’ll make it last.”

The man, a late-night jogger, whimpered as she leaned in.

Before her fangs could pierce his neck, a growl rang out through the alley.

“Get away from him!”

Nitara turned and was struck in the chest by a flying kick that sent her backward.

Angela landed between Nitara and the jogger, her wings raised protectively, and her eyes blazed white.

“What were you trying to do to him?”

“I was simply going to feed, and his blood is my meal,” answered Nitara. “You smell…ancient. Not human. What are you?”

Angela stood firm. “A gargoyle, are you not one as well?”

Nitara laughed. “A living statue? Hardly. I am a vampiress from Vaeternus, and I have come to see if this realm’s blood can sustain my people.”

“I have never come across a vampire before,” Angela remarked. “I have bad news for you, you don’t get to feed on people in this city,”

Nitara hovered inches off the ground and flexed her talons. “Gargoyles are not the chosen champions of this realm. Why risk your life to protect cattle?”

Angela’s tail lashed. “Because someone has to.”

“A foolish mistake that will prove to be your last,” Nitara threatened.

The two winged warriors lunged at one another.

Awesome job, Johnny!

Wow I have never thought of this match up.

I'm thinking Angela but I think I'm really thinking Demona. Angela makes a lot of mistakes.

Side note. we need the Gargoyles in fighting games. They would be very different and have some unique movesets.

Agreed, this is an awesome matchup. Tough one to call. I'm leaning towards Angela but need to remind myself what Nitara can do.

I give this to Angela. I give the match a 5.0.
