Culwych1 Posted September 1, 2025 Read Aloud Posted September 1, 2025 Flipside Presents: Shifu vs. Splinter Flipside is a world beneath ours where dreams go to die. Imagine a world created solely for the repository of our imaginations, where the unwritten stories live alongside those never completed and every fickle being that has ever been conjured from the deep recesses of our mind walks the yellow brick roads that pave the way to great cities. Flipside is a place where you can get anything, or if you are not careful, where anything can get you. You can find ogres, dragons, superheroes, demons, knights and dead pop stars drinking alongside each other in any of the many bars, pubs and nightclubs that offer every vice imaginable. You can only access Flipside if you wish for it hard enough, or are desperate enough, or have a death wish. Gods walk through the streets, passing undead cheerleaders or old cowboy gunslingers and no one bats an eyelid. Tourism is a big trade, mainly because Flipside gets a cut of the insurance money, which is ridiculously high. In a world where Satan, Dr Doom, Hannibal Lecter and Jason Vorhees can establish their own businesses, no one is ever really safe. So... welcome to Flipside; a place where dreams can come true, or, more likely, where nightmares will kill you. For god’s sake; be careful. ------------------------ There’d been whispers for weeks. A tournament in Flipside, ancient and brutal, older than any written language, gathering warriors from every world and every story ever (or never) told. Nobody knew who started the rumour, but in Flipside, rumours had weight. They travelled fast, like knives thrown in the dark. By the time it reached the Lantern Quarter, the tale had grown teeth: the tournament was real, and only the strongest would walk away. The dojo sat at the edge of that quarter, a weathered relic from some forgotten dynasty. Its paper screens and carved beams had seen centuries of blood and brilliance. It wasn’t a place you stumbled into by accident. It was where champions came to measure each other, away from gawking crowds, away from the chaos. And tonight, you could have heard a pin drop as two figures entered and acknowledge each other. Master Shifu stood in absolute stillness, paws clasped behind his back, his tail twitching once in irritation, or anticipation. His robes were immaculate, every line of his posture a silent sermon in discipline. His reputation was ironclad: he was the architect of heroes, the storm in the mountain mist. Across from him, Master Splinter leaned lightly on his staff, whiskers curling as he surveyed the room with calm, world-weary eyes. His eyes narrowed and his presence was like gravity, inescapable and undeniable. In the underworld, Splinter’s name wasn’t just known; it was whispered with respect. Like Shifu, his pupils had grown into legends. They were here because the whispers of the tournament demanded it. Not an invitation, not even a challenge. It was an inevitability. A mutual understanding that when the stakes were this high, masters needed to come together. “Curious place for a legend to hide,” Splinter murmured, his deep voice carrying a strange warmth. “I do not hide,” Shifu replied, his tone clipped, polite, but sharp as a blade. “I wait.” Splinter chuckled softly. “A predator’s patience, perhaps? I have seen this before.” “A teacher’s,” Shifu corrected, his eyes narrowing slightly. They bowed to one another, a movement both ritual and warning. The lanterns swayed as if sensing the storm gathering in their midst. “This fight need not happen,” Splinter said, lowering his staff into a stance refined by decades in the shadows. Shifu mirrored him with a movement so smooth it might have been mist sliding over stone. “Perhaps. But it will tell us what we need to know.” The room was still silent, heavy with tension. The tournament, with so little detail but so much weight, hung over them like the scent of incense, thick and undeniable. The masters didn’t just represent themselves; they represented something larger. Two entire schools of thought, two philosophies honed over lifetimes. Outside, bamboo stalks rattled like bones in the wind. Inside, the lantern flames guttered. Splinter tapped his staff against the floor, a low crack that reverberated through the room. Shifu’s paws shifted, his tail coiling. The spring was wound. The air itself seemed to recoil. And then, they leapt. Two shadows exploded into motion, ancient wisdom colliding with razor precision. The dojo shuddered as two legends finally met, not yet as enemies nor yet as allies, but as warriors whose fight would echo through Flipside’s streets. The first strike hadn’t landed yet, but the Tournament of Flipside had already begun.

leroypowell3 Posted September 3, 2025 Read Aloud Posted September 3, 2025 It would take a lot to get these two to fight seriously. They would constantly tie, and just a matter of luck and coincidence to determine the outcome of 1 battle. If he needed too, I think Shifu would pull out is magic powers with would overwhelm Splinter because he can't do all that stuff. So I guess that means I have to vote for Shifu. 2
JohnnyChany Posted September 6, 2025 Read Aloud Posted September 6, 2025 I'm taking Splinter, and I feel good about that choice. Shifu's short stature and limited reach don't hinder him against less trained opponents but I think it hurts him here.
