OOC History

Tamara Shinguji is a re-imagination of a Hall of Fame character I had on the FPL, Tamara Ellis. Her predecessor is of half-Japanese birth, with her father being a Westerner and hence her original name. She retains her mixed heritage, but the version of Tamara for the new FPL has a Japanese father instead, and thereby justifying her Japanese last name.

 

Personality

Quiet by nature, Tamara is a girl of few words and has a tendency to come across as either shy or asocial - not talking unless first spoken to, and preferring solitary activities such as reading, folding origami or playing with animals rather than social events such as parties or concerts. But that would only be Tamara on the surface, if one were to break through her stony exterior it would be revealed that Tamara would be neither of the two. Tamara isn't quiet because she lacked opinions; but rather, unless she sees a good reason to voice her views she is one to hold her tongue and observe the happenings around her. One of the basic tenets of wisdom - listen more, talk less. As her mother would put it, "God gave us a mouth and two ears. That means we should listen twice as much as we speak." Of course, when it comes to her views Tamara is usually hesitant to impose her beliefs on anyone, instead preferring to let nature run its course, and further enforcing her outward image of meekness some may form of her. When motivated to act, however, Tamara is a shockingly driven and committed person, and unless proven wrong in some way, no amount of badgering can sway her from her beliefs and acting on them. One can put it as being slow to act, but unstoppable once she does

 

And far from being antisocial, getting to know Tamara well would open one up to the fact that she is in fact one of the most kind-hearted individuals around with a deep respect for living things and a generally open-minded and accepting outlook on people and things around her; indeed one who knows her well must take note on how easily this girl is driven to either laughter or tears; much to Tamara's own chagrin, who wants to project the personal image of one who is unflappable, mostly due to herself taking the whole warrior mindset a little too seriously. But who could blame her? For the most part, she just learns to accept life as it is - do what needs to be done, respect and love life, laugh at what amuses you, cry at what saddens you, and slay demons whenever they show up to throw your life (and those of others) out of whack. After all, you live only once, so why waste life worrying?

The Quick & Dirty Description

Schoolgirl by day, sword-wielding demon-slayer with supernatural martial arts skills by night. That sums Tamara Shinguji in a nutshell. Born from a supernatural bloodline, Tamara is the latest heir to the innate spiritual powers that runs through her family. The family title of Seijushi (è–ç¸å², literally 'Sacred Beast Guardian') was traditionally passed down from father to son, but Tamara was a rare exception, the first case in over 300 years to break the tradition due to her father refusing to take up the mantle of Seijushi. Taking up the sacred Beast Fang katana, Tamara is trained in the family martial arts that allows her to channel the power of the Four Symbols, namely Seiryuu (é’é¾, Azure Dragon), Suzaku (朱雀, Vermillion Phoenix), Byakko (白虎, White Tiger) and Genbu (玄武, Black Tortoise). As a protector of humanity against evil forces from the demonic realm, how can a 15-year old cope with such a heavy responsibility on top of school life and teenage crushes?

Sacred Beast Fang: A katana that radiates a faint magical aura - even for those whose senses are not attuned to spiritual powers they can experience a feeling of warmth and benevolence when in the presence of the weapon for those who are righteous at heart; for the wicked and demons they will get a feeling of unease and impending judgment. Like the swords forged by Masamune, legend holds that if stuck in a flowing river leaves moving along the stream will be gently pushed aside to avoid being cut by the blade. Aside from being a magical weapon whose blade never appears to chip or dull, the weapon possesses no other special ability other than being a master-crafted katana with its legendary razor-sharp edge. Only one who bears the mantle of Seijushi can unlock the weapon's true power.

 

Wooden Sword: A basic wooden sword used for kendo and kenjutsu practice. It is forbidden by ancient tradition for a Seijushi to ever take a human life using the Sacred Beast Fang; Tamara carries a wooden sword around for kenjutsu practice and as well as to protect herself in the unlikely situation she has to fight non-demonic opponents.
